If you want to hear a magnificent vocal performance from Bowie, try either 'Wild is the Wind' or 'Cat People (putting out fire)'. Both are amazing songs too! :)
One thing Bowie was always very good at was in picking great people to work with. Rick Wakeman had played on Bowie's last two albums and Bowie offered him a place in the Spiders From Mars, but Rick had just accepted a place in a group called Yes (whatever happened to them, I wonder). So Bowie brought in jazz/improv pianist Mike Garson who graced this song and most notably the song "Aladdin Sane" where his avant-garde piano is still astonishing to this day. The whole album Aladdin Sane is great and any song is worth listening to.
Have never head this one and man I was blown away. Everything about it is exceptional. Some of the best, most tasty melodies I've heard everywhere virtually everywhere in the track. I might even go as far to say this could be in the "masterpiece" category. It impressed me that much and almost never do that after hearing a song for the first time.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Bowie's vocals are amazing. Then there's Mike Garson's incredible keyboards! His work on the entire album is mind boggling. Then on top of that you have Mick Ronson come in with that incredible acoustic guitar! When Ronson's guitar blends in with Garson's keyboards it's magic! It's the sonic equivalent of two lovers coming together to make something beautiful! Such a powerful, majestic masterpiece! One of the greatest album closers!
Yep, love how you likened this to a Bond Theme. At the time (13 years old), it put me in mind of glamorous Mediterranean locations that I'd only ever seen in film. But with added, 70s sex appeal!
Another emotional and beautiful song by Bowie is Wild Is The Wind.. He originally heard Nina Simone doing it and loved it so much he recorded it in homage to her.. Great reaction as always Tre!
Tre, THANKYOU for reviewing one of my all time favorite Bowie tunes. I’d add that the melody & chord changes (along with the quality of arrangement and performances) are extraordinary. It’s been with me for much of my life. That one was a keeper! Great review!
This is the Bowie that people aren’t aware of - a song that is LAST on the Aladdin Sane album! No airplay at the time for this song, but how good is this?
wpollock1 Who are people? That is nonsense, Bowie has millions of fans and we know his albums back to front. We’ve heard this amazing song thousands of times. Maybe it is you who has just discovered it. But some of us were raised on this
@@personalcheeses8073 believe it or not, Bowie never has been a very popular singer (excepting his 80s Lets Dance popularity) and the best of his music has never been heard by most people. The true fans KNOW the good songs. I can listen to Bowie 24/7/365 and still get more variety and better music than most radio stations.
@@sexysadie2901 yep, you said it. HUGE star in UK and most of Europe. Americans don't seem to "get" him. He wasn't as popular as he should have been, just saying.
This is the song where...if someone knocks on your door, you will try to ignore them but might have to run them off yelling....."I'M lISTENING TO BOWIE YOU FOOOOOOL!"
Aladdin Sane is my favorite Bowie album. This song is one good reason. The Mike Garson piano on this track is insane. And I learned something new today: In my day "Pipe down" meant "Be quiet", but I guess not anymore.
Thank you. I can't believe I've been a Bowie NUT since the seventies and I just heard this tonight! I subscribed due to your reaction. I must ask again, who picks your reviews? You review the best.
Thanks for doing one of my fave Bowie songs, actually the whole Aladdin Sane album is great (imo of course) Pleaaase do more Porcupine Tree, my all time fave band, you ourght to like it very much, as you love Pink Floyd I recommend “Anesthetize”, “Arriving somewhere but not here”, and “Time Flies”, but the have sooo many fantastic songs to choose from 😊

Bowie always had the best keyboard players, this is the great Mike Garson

Try Aladdin Sane from the same album. Garson has what I consider to be the best piano solo in rock history.
Jon Howard Shame on you
This is one of my top 5 Bowie songs. Aladdin sane, man who sold the world, space oddity, and we are the dead are probably right there.
This has been one of my top Bowie favorites for years. From Aladdin sane. The song Aladdin sane ( a lad insane). Also in my top five.
Wow, keep the Bowie going! This is gorgeous, one (of very, very many) favs

Best Bowie song ever! (together with ‘Life On Mars?’, ‘Quicksand’ and ‘Wild Is The Wind’).
PistolsScaramanga - Dayamn you & I have similar taste - you mentioned 4 of my very favorite Bowie tunes
Yep, love how you likened this to a Bond Theme. At the time (13 years old), it put me in mind of glamorous Mediterranean locations that I'd only ever seen in film. But with added, 70s sex appeal!
Awesome pick. I love seeing people experience the lesser known Bowie tunes. One of my favorite Bowie albums.
Just about any song from Aladdin Sane is worth your time, the title song is a must!
A crescendo of sounds
One of Bowie's sexiest songs, a real beauty.
Great song, great reaction.
One of the prettiest he's ever written... the best closer to any album in the rock era... never performed it live!!!?
Another emotional and beautiful song by Bowie is Wild Is The Wind.. He originally heard Nina Simone doing it and loved it so much he recorded it in homage to her.. Great reaction as always Tre!
I think Tre reacted to that song but it was pulled.
So true......its bond esque, very cinematic.
Amazingly beautiful song. One of Bowies best for sure, that piano 👏
The Bewlay Brothers
That guitar and saxophone unison in the chorus :-)
Gorgeous song!
I'm watching your Bowie reactions again, you still surprise me.

It’s been with me for much of my life. That one was a keeper!
Great review!
Mike Garson (from USA) on great piano and the late great Mick Ronson (from Hull, Yorkshire, England) on guitars.
another standout vocal performance !!! fantastic album start to finish....first album i ever bought with my own money

No airplay ANY TIME for this gem and unfortunately, he never sang this live.

We miss David; yeah, this does have a kind of James Bond feel.

I was hooked by the keyboards. Mr. Bond; I presume? I get it too.
A superb track from a superb album - one of my faves. Have you listened to Moonage Daydream (from the Ziggy Stardust album) yet?
damn I miss this dude, what a big year for music deaths . Bowie and Prince
I must admit that I never heard it as a James Bond theme before! But you're right, it could suit very well as that. Even Wikipedia says so!
early Bowie always great
song off "alladin sane".

i place David Bowie and a few others, Steely Dan, Zappa to name a few as ... they are not songwriters, they are composers.
Speaking of desperado, how about some Eagles?
