Guarantee you this 25 minute summary will be 100 million times better than that Marvel movie lmao. My jaw dropped when I saw that trailer, and not in a good way. This could be so gripping and haunting. Like The Road or something. The Last of Us, at least. You know, something with an HBO budget and quality. Just because the robots look like cartoon characters doesn't mean you need to make am movie that runs them into that. I'm only a few minutes in and debating whether I should go buy the book or just spoil everything now and watch it again.
"Forget the promise of progress they say, forget the glories of the past. Cling to what little light that remains and be satisfied with its feeble illumination."
Interesting. The 1st Netflix Trailer though, it looks more like a light-hearted, fun adventure, without the more dark stuff. Btw, what was that other story again, with the aliens terraforming earth, a very cosmic horror situation. That would be a nice movie/show as well.
If any dramatisation screamed out for unknown actors, Stålenhag's work is it. The whole vibe is about anonymity and loneliness. Known actors will ruin it. It should be a slow-paced, reflective road trip, like the graphic novel. No heroics. Would Chris Pratt even get out of bed if he wasn't allowed to save the day, heroically?
For anyone that's a bit confused as I was, there's some art that's been used here that's not in the book 😮 there was going to be a sub plot that was cut from the actuality released book (with out these images) where a social worker highers a cop to track and capture Skip, the green car thats not in the book is the socail workers car the just has the red car, the page where the cop and social worker are checking out skip bodies also isn't in the book plus the road block with the cop, did anyone actually read the book or just coment on this video, makes me wonder? 😅
I have the graphic novel, it's amazing, and on first reading, I simply saw it as a salutary warning of the dangers of technology, especially VR, AI, and social media. But after watching your excellent critique, it occured to me that it might also be a religious allegory of sorts, something akin to Pilgrim's Progress... sort of!!! I can't help but think of the protagonist's brother's name Christ'opher, the supposed miraculous conception, the journey of transformation and restoration, a nation (the US) where mass religious delusion, and the manipulation of society through technology; disinformation, censorship, instant gratification etc, have converged to create Stålenhag's biblical hellscape. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it...
Great comment! I wonder if it's possible that dystopia can lead to paradise. I also wonder if the hivemind has any connection to the Buddhist concept of nirvana (with all the interconnectedness). Maybe the hivemind is a horrible detour from nirvana.
While I enjoyed your breakdown and obviously all art is subjective I find it interesting the genius twist to the narrative and shading is never mentioned. Was this purposeful or did you not catch it? While I'm trying to be purposely vague I don't see any comments referencing the masterful hidden revelation either.
Brilliant. @Myth. This is way too good to not be in contact with Simon. ? Netflix killed my fav show which was Tales from the loop. I just see they are actually releasing this. ? Anyways I'm lit up over this. :) Any chance of a date we might see it released ?
Wow! I am now a fan! I was hoping there would be a film adaptation, but I have a feeling i will be disappointed from the simple fact that capturing the scale and majesty of the landscape will take a backseat to narrative.
Requiring the viewers to fill-in the details of a dystopian story is THE preliminary step to being hooked-on a neuro-transmitter network … that is, any device that gives you “a hit” of dopamine, while disregarding all other necessary sustenance. Never, never, never take time to imagine the NEGATIVE RESULTS of ANY dysfunctional, dystopian work of “art.”
@@MythologyAndFantasyOh, I meant voice over. Lektor is Polish word but it sounds to us like a borrowed word from English thus the mistake. I assume it's your voice, sounds professional and soothing. Good job Was it hard to start such YT channel? Did you had to fight doubts?
Ah got it. Actually it is AI:) Im glad it sounds realistic. It does take a lot of manipulation and audio enhancements to get to sound like this but if you listen closely you tell by the difference in tone.
@@MythologyAndFantasyYou have done very, very well with the voice. So much better than just feeding the text through a synth and just sending the result out into the world.

Really great video. Let’s see how Netflix plays out

I would get the book first, the vid has spoilers:)
Netflix turned it into a comedy/action movie. Feels wrong.
Hate to burst anyone’s bubble but the Netflix series does not reflect this cerebral novel. This is still an amazing book that everyone should read.
Movie. Not series.

His art is amazing

Love seeing some Simon Stalenhag content on this website

I think skip is bigger than a lunch box. Why would you say he's barely the size of a lunchbox?
This entire video feels extremely ai written (and narrated) so id probably say thats why lol
Where the narrator is from, lunchboxes are much larger than they are in the U.S....
I've been wanting to make a game based off The Electric State for so long.
there is roblox one i think

Got the book last year, can highly recommend.
Although I liked this kind of fiction more back when it was clear fiction.
Omg Netflix will kill it. Give it to Denis Villnerve.
that would be a dream
Netflix is gonna Cowboy Bebop the thing and screw it up to hell and gone.
