  • For all BMW motorcycles with a GPS preparation it is very easy to install a Garmin Zumo XT or XT2 or TomTom GPS unit without any cabling or new cradles. The adapter from Wunderlich does the job. And you even get more USB outlets.
    Get it here:
    www.wunderlich.de/en/wunderli...
    For a cheaper solution (but more work with cables and connectors) look here for the bracket:

    Congrats on the new GPS Sven 🤩 I'm really happy with my XT2 and the new map they have on it. Great to see you can still use the same cradle with little modifications🙌🏻

    I tried a BMW Navigator IV; got so fed up with the touch display issues I bought a ConnectedRide Cradle and tried using the ConnectedRide app for nav. Got so fed up with both syncing unreliability of the app and lack of features, I bought a Zumo XT2 -- VERY happy with my purchase and now recommend it for everyone.
    I use an aftermarket adapter and the BMW navigator mount. Works well.

    Good review! Thank you ! This adapter is ok, a little too thick (I would happily take a version that is forgoing the additional USB ports and is much slimmer!) and super-pricey. USD 183 plus domestic S&H inside the US comes to over USD 200 for the adapter delivered from Wunderlich USA to a US address. In Germany this adapter is USD 116 plus S&H (no VAT for exports). I tried to order it there (I am a German native) and have it shipped to the US like I do from many other EU manufacturers/retailers for items for my bike (MRA, SE Engineerd, Dominator, Voigt Mototechnik, helmets etc from FC-Moto, etc. etc. etc.). Even with shipping it is usually more economic to buy in the EU because we do not pay the substantial VAT. Just takes longer to get the items. I was able to establish an account on their German web site, but they would not allow an order. I e-mailed them and they refereed to their US web site. I mentioned the huge and really unwarranted price difference and they said sorry. Wunderlich is already on the extreme expensive side for equipment, but they really rake US customer over the coals! I wrote a balanced and fact-based review on this item on their web site. Let's see if they publish it.

      Thanks. Yes I agree about the thickness and the quite stiff prices. Too bad the costs of sending it. But same the other way also. Sometimes it costs more to send than the goods itself, and in Norway VAT is calculated WITH send costs added first. I buy a lot from China. They have a far better policy when it comes to this, than US and EU.

      Interesting! Here in Australia, the price from Wunderlich (the link that Sven provided) would be $214.15 AUD, Wunderlich Australia have asked for $275. Now, the other option would be to rip out the BMW nav prep, and put in a Touratech holder (so it’s at least lockable v the 3DAM mount, which isn’t) and that costs $399 from Australian retailers. So $275 looks pretty good.

    Hi Sven, thank you for uploading this video. I wasn’t aware of the Wunderlich option until I saw this upload and having ordered one it has arrived today. I was wondering if you have ridden in the rain with this setup as I have concerns about water ingress through the USB ports? Unfortunately they are mounted on the side of the unit and the rubber covers do not appear to fit particularly well, so this has me a little worried, as I fear water may find its way in to the electronics that way. Many thanks.

      Hi no I have not ridden in heavy rain with it yet, but it seems quite well covered by the windscreen, so I dont think it will be an issue. Maybe remove it or covering it when washing the bike ( I always do)

      Been using more or less all Tomtom Rider models since 2005 and the latest model 550 is +4years old and still with a tiny screen. I don't think that we would see a new Rider model. Therefore i think i would go with Zumo XT2@@aimenalwan

Can you let me know if it works well with tracks as that was the major issue. It could not finish your trackever

      Garmin Zumo XT and XT2 works well with tracks. Tracks is the reason I don't use Tom Tom. The Tom Tom unit I once used didn't support track gpx files at all.

    Hey Sven, does this mean you have given up on the ConnectedRide Navigator?

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel  7 месяцев назад +1

      I does not cover my needs for a GPS as it don't support tracks as it should. For routes and other functions it is OK. BMW may try to improve it further and perhaps also make it handle tracks better. But what is BMWs goal for this unit, will it be able to handle tracks? I haven't seen any descriptions how they want it to work. They will probably not get the customer feedback they want. 80% of the customers are probably urban riders or riders that keeps to the main roads. For those the unit works. I cannot wait for the unsure so I will try to sell it.

    Wunderlich have forgotten, that “click” system is invented 😂. The gap between zumo unit and the cradle is horrible and the cost of the adaptor is not making sense. 3DAM is the best solution so far.
