    Just wanted to say thank you for this film. I am fairly useless at DIY on bikes but had a go today doing this job as you had explained it so clearly. I got my new GSA a few days ago, ordered the connector from Nippy Normans and set to work. I even managed to route the wiring without having to move the screen. Your channel will be my go to reference point from now on.

Garmin XT ordered (+ the wiring connector), though I’m going to go for the Touratech lockable mount. I’m due to pick the bike up in early September and can’t wait. I did the same thing "sort of". I have a GSA, not sure if that makes much difference but, I didn't remove the windshield or anything else. I started the same way you did, removing the bundle at the bottom and then removing the top part and zip ties. But then, I routed the Garmin "2 pin" connector that connects to the Zumo up from the bottom following the same path as the cradle power cable and removing the cradle power cable as I went. That way I knew I was using the same exact spaces and zip tied at the same points as the original cable plus pushing the small connector up from the bottom was way easier than trying to get the "transformer" down through the holes.
    Like you, I left the new bracket snugged us "reasonably" tight but still movable with a bit of force.
    I prepared my power cable as the first thing so it was all ready to go. Still a lot of cable to zip tie up even when you shorten the BMW cable & the red/black on the Zumo. Rather than use a mechanical connection I used a solderable butt connector which you use heat on to melt the solder to make the connection and it also has heat shrink on each end. I finished up with a length of waterproof heatshrink covering the two butt connectors. The waterproof heatshrink has glue on the inside

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  2 года назад

      Thanks for the reply for others to see regarding connecting the 2 cables together, when you have your video head on sometimes you miss the simple things !! First, fantastic video and very clear - thanks. So I’ve got the connected ride cradle and use the BMW app for navigation and I’m not happy. Currently has several faults which I can’t fix (they have corrected the speed limit info to MPH thank goodness). So I know this install is a job I can do if I’m patient and take my time plus the new XT2 (which I fancy) is 12v not 5v so no transformer box to stuff in the hole. Overall what is your view? I could use the Wunderlich adapter box to install the XT2 to the cradle but as you say the cradle is ugly and so is the Wunderlich box. Also makes taking the XT2 on and off more difficult… Would like to know what you think about the various options/costs and best solution. Thanks

      hi. I really do like the zumo . it’s not perfect but it works well( most of the time!) I simply remove it and pop it in my pocket. can’t be bothered with all that extra stuff to lock it in, unsightly for one. I am just testing a carpuride w702 that was sent to me by them . first impressions are very good…apple car play etc. will pop it on the gs and run it side by side for comparison. who knows I may take the sumo off and run with this Chinese unit.ride safe. 👍👍
