Just wanted to say thank you for this film. I am fairly useless at DIY on bikes but had a go today doing this job as you had explained it so clearly. Your channel will be my go to reference point from now on.

I did the same thing "sort of". I have a GSA, not sure if that makes much difference but, I didn't remove the windshield or anything else. I started the same way you did, removing the bundle at the bottom and then removing the top part and zip ties. But then, I routed the Garmin "2 pin" connector that connects to the Zumo up from the bottom following the same path as the cradle power cable and removing the cradle power cable as I went. That way I knew I was using the same exact spaces and zip tied at the same points as the original cable plus pushing the small connector up from the bottom was way easier than trying to get the "transformer" down through the holes. Like you, I left the new bracket snugged us "reasonably" tight but still movable with a bit of force. I prepared my power cable as the first thing so it was all ready to go. Still a lot of cable to zip tie up even when you shorten the BMW cable & the red/black on the Zumo. Rather than use a mechanical connection I used a solderable butt connector which you use heat on to melt the solder to make the connection and it also has heat shrink on each end. I finished up with a length of waterproof heatshrink covering the two butt connectors. The waterproof heatshrink has glue on the inside
Thanks for the reply for others to see regarding connecting the 2 cables together, when you have your video head on sometimes you miss the simple things !! GSA has more space around the fork area. There are definitely more ways to skin a cat.(ps not literally I am an animal lover) ride safe 👍

Hi. I’ve fitted my zumo the same way you have but can’t connect it via Bluetooth to the gs. I have my phone and helmet connect to the bike, but I loose that if I connect the zumo directly ti my helmet. How did you do yours?
This is the hardest possible way to do this. Just take the easy route and use the existing power without modifying your bike (Wunderlinq, 3DMotorrard, etc).
Can I ask what sequence you have everything paired, I’ve just paired my headset( cardo) to the GS and then paired my phone to my GS but unsure how I can include my zumo without it messing everything up. Thanks Jay
Hi jay, I use mine exactly as you have done as it allows me to use the whizz wheel for music and phone calls, I am not able to get text messages etc on the zumo now, but it gives me a stable set up and the zumo is now a sat nav device .
I did exactly this installation (same connection and cables) to my 2018 GSA, and since then my trip computer no longer shows MPG data - any ideas if this is caused by this install?
Sorry Gordon, no. From memory you have power cables and a data cable, so by doing the install it should not effect the bikes data to the bikes clocks etc. Have you deselected something in the menu accidentally ?
@@gsd32i thanks - I'm not aware that I've deselected anything :), sounds like I need a chat with my dealer. I have to say the installation is super neat and the XT is lovely to use.
@@gordonscott2838 Yes its a bit strange .......the XT is pretty good , I have found that the base camp is ok but unless you use that programme everyday you will take ages how to remember to do routes etc. For me , the Scenic route planner app works brilliantly and I can export routes straight to the XT over a cup of coffee at breakfast before we set off.
Hi . Never had a problem with the xt mount but I don’t do off road ! Trails gravel etc wouldn’t be an issue . You could always throw a couple of zip ties around the whole think if you were going to some moto cross stuff though or buy that cumbersome looking cradle 👍ride safe 😃
Not trying to be critical but it is not lockable, better to simply mount the XT gps directly onto the 3d adaptor which mounts straight onto the oem mount, its powered up by the bike & is lockable.
Like I said each to their own, I don't like the nav mounts/3d adaptor they look naff. my look is much cleaner . If I get off the bike for any length of time , whip the xt off and straight into pocket, simple . 👍
@@gsd32i, suppose you could do that but if you stop many times a day when you out on the road that is going to be a big hassle plus you run the risk of scratching or damaging the XT unit every time you remove it.

Have you thought about using a head torch when filming so you have both hands free, instead of a phone torch? 😊
Thanks for the tip👍
Hi do you have a link for the power accessory cable please. Great video😊
Hi, it's in the description box below. 👍
@@gsd32i thanks. Loving you content
Hello its possible to cut the end of OEM support and use it on installation. On my country its difficult get the ebay cable.
hi. I would say it is possible, just cut and connect the wires, making sure the +/- get connected the correct way.
Nice installation, but just a simple question. I guess the XT will turn off or at it least you get promted when turning ignition off? Or do it just go in battery mode? Really like this mount, and as you I also have looked on other mounts. Looks good and no hazel putting the XT in your pocket, like you do with a phone etc. when leaving the bike. Cheers.
Yes it turns itself off. Just had to pop into my garage to check 🤪
@@gsd32i Awesome, thank you for the quick response. Got my bmw connector couple of hours ago, and the simple 12mm bar mount from Touratech is on it¨s way. Again, thanks a lot . Cheers from Norway
Hmmm. Mine doesn't turns itself off.
@@thomasendavidavandoorn1323 when the ignition is turned off ? Does it stay on ? Is the charging symbol showing on the zumo ?
I am sorry, I was not patient enough, it takes about a minute to turn off. On my previous bike it was instantly.
Just a question. Is there any reason you went this route instead of ordering Wunderlich GPS mount that goes into the OEM GPS navigation holder?
Yes, simply I didn't like the look of the oem bmw mount or any of the other mounts.😀
@@gsd32i fair enough. personaly might got the other way since I do not like fiddling around with cables and stuff. not very handy myself :-)

I've read on some posts that removing the oem mount reduces the annoying road noise coming up the tunnel past the forks. Did you notice this?
Hello. I need to find the positive of the high beam. I would like to connect Denali spotlights that only come on with high beam.can you help me? where can I find it? R1250gs 2022
Hi, not sure. But if you put the new ezcan on then that would be easy to do,
@@gsd32i Surely with that or the cansmart Denali works. But I wanted to do it without additional control unit.
Hi. I’ve fitted my zumo the same way you have but can’t connect it via Bluetooth to the gs. I have my phone and helmet connect to the bike, but I loose that if I connect the zumo directly ti my helmet. How did you do yours?
Basically you have a choice , connect to the gs or the zumo , cant do both . Well i dont think 🤔 u can !
This is the hardest possible way to do this. Just take the easy route and use the existing power without modifying your bike (Wunderlinq, 3DMotorrard, etc).
Its great that there are options, much prefer my way though.
@@gsd32i many thanks👍
So the Nav Wheel no longer has any control over the Garmin sat nav unit correct?
yes correct. not a big issue for me to be honest. but each to their own as they say 😁
Hi where can you get the power connector from, it’s the yellow one that connects to the power supply plug.
See the link on the description , it’s from a BMW e bay seller , £14.50. If no luck try Nippy Normans on line too .
@@gsd32i it's possible cut the end of OEM support and use it on installation. Its difficult get the ebay cable on my country.
Good morning, I noticed that there is no key to close
hi. correct. you just have to release it from the cradle . I simply put mine in my pocket if I am away from the bike . 😊
ruclips.net/video/TPiAsfTTNZA/видео.html
Can you still use the thumb wheel?
Not for the zumo .
If you take that off road, I wouldn’t trust the small mount to hold it on. I’d think you’d have to buy the Touratech Locking Cradle.
Hi . Never had a problem with the xt mount but I don’t do off road ! Trails gravel etc wouldn’t be an issue . You could always throw a couple of zip ties around the whole think if you were going to some moto cross stuff though or buy that cumbersome looking cradle 👍ride safe 😃

Where can I buy the yellow cable
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393616891373
👍
@@littlefish4270 not been a problem so far . 👍
@@gsd32i , maybe one day it will & then you will appreciate.
@@gsd32i, The XT mount is lockable using the OEM lock setup, no need to take off until you wash bike because a little moisture can get behind when hosing directly,, mine stays on permanently virtually 👍
check mine please, the motorcycle's key closes the gps
dont suppose you would sell me your sat nav cradle from the gs1250 by any chance
Sadly not. 🙈
But now GPS is not lockable
You can buy
Wunderlich lock or tura tech one.
I have got wunderlich lock, very neat and secure.
Correct. Takes no time to put it in my pocket , if required. A simple zip tie on the button release will also keep it secure .
