Thank you sir and yes flatter ground does help no doubt. I’ve cut a little on steep ground; just enough to know how tough it is. Heck just getting around on the steep ground is tough let alone cutting the timber off of it lol. Anyway, thank you for the kind words; and for watching! Take care and as always…do come again! Please
Very well done cutting the notch which established the direction of the fall, and bore cutting to set up the hinge as well as the holding wood. "Tiffany" sounding real good.
It's a darn shame losing that time and money for bad logs, at least you don't have to haul it out for someone else's firewood. The tree which you were able to save seemed to be a good one, very interesting thanks for the interesting video.
Yessir it is! I am thankful to do what we can though. It’s just all mostly low grade logs and doesn’t pay as much. Although, I’ve set out price per foot on this job. Problem is, the land owner doesn’t get much. And I hate that. But what do ya do yanno? Thank you sir for watching and commenting my friend. I surely appreciate you. Take care and as always come back when ya get a chance
I agree 24" and skip is hard to beat in hardwoods. Good cutting brother. I couldnt cut today because of rain so i was glad to see you put a cutting video up. 😊 Have a blessed day!
Yessir you bet! It clears better and cuts about the same as a full house chain does. I’ve got a 066 with 28” bar on it, but Lawd it gets heavy after a full day. These ported 046’s are pretty sweet. Anyway, thanks again buddy. And thanks for watching. Take care and come again, please anytime!
Hey thanks brother and will do! I appreciate the kind words and for you watching. Truly! I’m glad ya enjoyed it. Take care and do come again my friend! Anytime
As usual another great video with teaching along the way. As mush as I like watching the mules work, I like the timber cutting a little more. Thank you for the informative video and stay safe out in the timber! God bless!!
Thank you sir, that truly means a lot to me. For real! I do my best to show the WHOLE operation here on my channel. Start to finish! And there’s a lot to it to make everything run smooth. Thank you for the kind words and also for watching! I’m glad ya enjoyed it. Take care and do come again, anytime! Thx
Getting warm out there, I've started processing firewood for myself that would make good firewood, saw sounds great stay well waiting for your next video
Hey thanks friend! I appreciate the kind words. Yes, it’s starting to warm up a tad. Although looks like we’re gonna get some cool weather later this week into next week. It’s that time of year where it can’t make its mind up lol. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting. And I hope your firewood works out good for you. Take care and do come again, please
Yessir buddy! You’re most welcome. And thank you for the super kind words. I surely appreciate it and thank you for watching as always! Take care and do come again, please!
Cool 😎 that was my intentions..was to get yall “my” view from running the saw. So you could really see what’s going on. Anyway, thank you sir for the kind words and for always watching. Surely means a lot to me. Take care my friend and come back when ya can. Thx
That's some nice cameras you have my friend! I think you have them "Dialed In" correctly! I've never cut a tree before myself. So this is a great video to see how someone else's life is! I've mostly welded inside petroleum aluminum trailers. You're life is much more interesting to me! Lol. Thanks for your video and God bless you and your family!
Hey thanks friend! Truly. I really appreciate the kind words and you watching. I think we all as humans can find something interesting about others if we will take the time to do so. Sort of like that old saying of, “listen to understand vs listening to respond.” We can all learn from one another and what a great world that would be if people would! Thanks again my friend! Take care and do come again, anytime! Thx
I enjoy watching you cut and hall logs being a old part time logger I was always told that if you have a limb broke in the top it will cause water to enter the tree like a straw and rot the tree
Yessir I’ve heard that too. I’ve seen it go both ways. I do my best to keep from tearing up younger timber if I can help it. Sometimes it’s simply unavoidable. Thank you sir for watching and taking time to comment! I surely appreciate it. Take care and do come again, please
Thank you sir! So far…I love it! Time will tell how long it’ll last. But I do love the performance of it. It’s noticeably stouter. I’m glad I took my time and tried to do it right. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and for watching! Take care and do come again, please
Thanks for explaining why you cut that way, the angle helped a lit too. I fell in northern British Columbia and we undercut different. Also ran 046 with 25 inch bars and skip tooth chain.
Cool 😎 always glad to hear from other timber cutters or “fallers” I guess as you fellas up north call em. Yeah, we typically use the conventional notch compared to the Humboldt. Although every now and then if I’m on hills and or need to throw the butt in the dirt first…I’ll use the Humboldt. For me, it really just depends on the terrain and the specific tree. But I do predominantly use conventional notches. One reason I use shallow notches is to save log length and also part of why we here in our parts of the world use the conventional notch vs Humboldt. I have a lot of respect for you guys cutting that big timber. I’d like to see one of those steep ground cable logging operations one day. I guess I’ve logged about every other way a man can…with machines and animals. But never that style the westerners use on the steep stuff. I am pleased so far with my rebuild and port work on this 046. I’ve got a 461 to rebuild next and then another 046 of ours after it. I bought the 461 blown up from a buddy and it’s gotta have the whole works. Bottom and top ends rebuilt. Anyway, it’s good to hear from you my friend and thanks for watching! Take care and do come again, anytime! Thx
Haven't fell huge timber, biggest one I ever fell was over 60 inch butt. Nicest timber I worked in was under 30 inch on butts. All were over 110 feet long to a 4 inch top. Thanks for answering me Zach. Appreciate it!
@@budrobinsin7141cool! That’s about same size timber I’m in. Maybe not quite that tall. I prefer the 24-30” stuff. Makes nice cutting and fairly easy handling timber. Glad to hear from you buddy. Take care
Thank you sir! I am very happy with the way it performs. Now if it’ll just hold together for the long haul. The ole girl was getting some age on her! Anyway, thank you for the kind words and for watching! Take care and as always, do come again..please
Thank you for taking me back to my youth. I grew up watching my grandfather logging like this. I left the logging but kept the mules. Love my mules. Go up to the amish some and would like talk to you and pray with you
You’re most welcome! Glad ya enjoy the videos. Come by for a visit anytime. Call me when ya planning a trip our way. 931-409-1082. Be glad to have you. Thanks for watching and the kind words. Take care my friend
I watch all your videos, but I don't always comment, but I always give you a 👍! saw is running good! Did you do a video on dressing the bar, rakers, right pitch on the teeth and how it affects cutting! I try to look at your sawdust, you know why!🤣
There seems to be thousands of videos on “proper” chainsaw sharpening these days lol. I just let it go on by lol. But yessir, you know what’s up looking good at the chips coming out. You can tell a lot by that. And thank you sir for always watching and commenting. I appreciate you and thx for the kind words as always. Take care and come on back anytime ya feel like it.
Nice work Zach and it's nice to see you take your time and taking a pride in your work. In the case of that last hollow tree, do you ever find that a tree like that can start of hollow but by the time you buck 10 to 15 ft of the butt the tree will be solid enough for a log? I often find here in Australia, sometimes if you have a tree like that and you butt off enough you can at least end up with an 8 ft log length towards the top. (but again not always, sometimes they are hollow all of the way through too).
Thank you kindly! And yes, a lot of the time you can butt it off like you say…and at least salvage some of the tree anyway. Then in this case, you lose the whole thing. Which stinks! But is what it is. Thanks for the kind words my friend and for watching as usual! Take care my friend and do come again!
There’s always gonna be that one guy in the bunch 🤣🤣🤣. I’ve ran em and rebuilt em both…I use to run 288’s, 372’s, 394’s, and 395’s. I like both brands. Thanks for watching buddy…and bring that 288 down anytime you wanna run this ole 046..😉😉😉.
Yessir Mr Thomas, I believe that as well. Kinda like rainbow poplar, the mineral in the ground affects that more than anything. Thanks for the kind words my friend and for always watching and commenting. I surely appreciate it. Take care buddy, come back when ya get a chance.
Thank you sir! It cuts very good now. The porting really wakes em on up and makes GO!! I am happy with it so far..now just to see how long it’ll last is the biggest thing
Yessir you said that right. I was born poor and I guess I’ll die that way. I am thankful to scratch out a living and support my family. That’s most important. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Take care and do come again, please!
Didn't get to finish the first comment, keeps them from splitting ,,, also known as barber chairing wish they would include editing in comments, then i wouldn,t look so dumb 🥵
Not a prob my friend. I knew what ya meant and yes you’re exactly right. I had a pine bust on me several years ago…and I was lucky! I also learned my lesson too.
Really like that type of video just wish could of had a back up view to watch tree in its lean and fall. and thankyou for mentioning Jesus Christ in your video's.
Thank you friend! I will see if I can work it in on the next video. I did film with the tripod some cutting the trees but just wasn’t sure how it would go together. I’ll see what I can do on the next one :) and thank you for the feedback. And I’m always glad to mention Jesus! Thank you for the kind words and also for watching! You’re a good timber cutter. Thats some good flat ground you’re working, that really helps. Great job, hang in there

Bore cutting is also good for heavy leaning trees it keeps them from splitting,

I set on my machine last Friday and crying
The people we was working for had us putting a truck load of good Oak in a sink hole and cover it up
Oh dang! That is bad ain’t it?! And so wasteful. But seems to be the times we’re living in sadly.
Daddy said the ground it's growing on has a lot to do with them bad trees too
