I cut firewood in the early 1970's to heat my home (during oil crisis). I learned the hard way without any knowledgeable people to teach me. The lessons were hard, although they were permanent. I enjoy the availability of experienced teachers who use the internet as a positive teaching tool for those who want to learn. I accepted the Lord when I was 28-years old, now I am 79. Especially cutting trees off of fences after storms and cutting firewood. You can't help it sometimes getting your saw in the dirt and it doesn't take much for it to dull it. Appreciate the Tips Sir , since i retired , i cut my own firewood , now , before when i worked i usually bought it . I like You , like the Older saws myself , got a Stihl 038, an 046, & 288 xp 32 inch bar , for the big stuff !! I appreciate Ya , i still learn something every day !! Take Care !!

I had no teacher when I started cutting with a chainsaw and so it took some experience of pinched saws till I learned the right approach. Your video would have come handy, but you were only a little kid then.
There is a lot of us that learned that way. I saw my uncles and Pa cutting with saws. But honestly, they never really taught me a whole lot. More of a monkey see monkey do type of thing. Probably the most is 10 tons worth of logs; truck empty is 13,500. Gross weight is 32k. I’ve been close to 35k a time or two unintentionally. Sometimes it’s hard to guess the weight. It’s been a pretty old truck! Thx for watching and taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please
Stihl and Oregon chain are my two picks. I prefer Stihl a little better just because the teeth are a little longer so you get a couple more sharpenings out of them and also the heat treat in them seems a little better butttttt Oregon is a close second. I like full chisel chain for normal felling and bucking then semi chisel if I am cutting a lot of dirty wood. But I mostly run full chisel. As of late, I’ve started using full skip chains also..and I’ve grown to really like them. You can run a slightly longer bar on less power. And it’s easier to sharpen. Plus is cleans out better of wood chips when cutting. It does cut just a tad slower than a full house chain does. I’ve tried a couple semi-skip chains, and thought they were good too.
