Thank you so much for how you explain how things work and why you work things the way you do. i know this video is about mowing. I hope it's ok to ask this question. When you were logging a few videos back. One of the commands I thought I heard you say was "stand up". If I am mistaken I'm sorry. I just wanted to know what that command meant. Thank you again for this great video. It is enjoyable to watch and learn from your videos. I find it amazing how those mules can side step.

      Hey there! Thx for subscribing firstly. And thanks for the kind words. And taking time to watch and comment. So, “stand up” means to tighten up a little or move forward just a little. Not really walk off or go. But just tighten up a little. I use that phrase and also “straighten up.” Which means exactly what it says, “straighten up.” Sometimes they’ll get a little sideways when hitching and turning. And I’ll get to straighten up. They can learn about anything phrase you can teach them if you’re a mind too. Thanks again for watching, and also the question. It’s always good to hear from everyone. I've seen times where Amish girls were out mowing and apparently the sickle bar had plugged and they were off and reaching down by the bar to pull out the problem. I was scared for them that if the horses made one step they could lose fingers.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  23 дня назад

      Yessir that is a problem especially if you don’t put it out of gear before messing with it. There are safety precautions to be had with anything. Well, most of the time by the time I’m ready to hook to a mowing machine… My mules are broke enough that a little bit of racket won’t bother them. But to answer your question, I basically just hook them to it and keep a tight hold on them, when I first put it in gear. They may jump a little to begin with, but most of the time they settle right down. Same way with the manure spreader. I hope this answers your question! At what age do you start training your mules to doing light work? I know you need to handle them pretty much from birth, but when do you start training them to pull a little?

      @zachodom7486  23 дня назад

      I start lightly working them when they’re 2 year olds. I handle em as you say from birth. Handling their feet, halter training, tying up, and just general barn manners. And then I’ll start putting the harness on them at 2. And nothing too serious until 3. And no long hard days till 4. It’s a process. But they’re usually well broke as 2 year olds. Take me about 3 months or so from when I first start in on them, to get them just like I want them. Then, everyday is a training day for the rest of their lives. We’re always working on things, to improve our form and usability. Thanks for the question. And thanks for taking time to watch and comment. I appreciate it. Take care and do come again, please

    Hey Zach.If it’s heavier,they will lower there heads more,which will make that pole between them go down in the front more.
    Is that correct sir?

      @zachodom7486  22 дня назад

      No not really. The weight is on their collar at the base of their necks. So not really. Once you set the tongue height, it’ll pretty much stay there. Thanks for the kind words my friend and thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please

      I’m waiting on a set of harness to be made for them as we speak. Soon as I get the harness, I’ll start working them. I plan to do a complete series on starting them from A to Z. So hopefully that’ll work out. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Take care my friend and do come again, please!
