- Belgian Jacques Brel sings "Ne me quitte pas" ("Don't Leave Me") for the 1975 film "Jaques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris." Brel first recorded this song in 1959 for his album "La Valse à Mille Temps." An English version of the song titled "If You Go Away" has been recorded by many artists.
This movie played on the newly inaugurated HBO in 1974. I was 17 and gobbled it all up in all of its gorgeous, melancholy majesty. I love it still, always will.
Unforgettable song by unforgettable artist!
Such emotion and professionalism! No one today can compare to Brel!
Orgueuil et fragilité. Quelle souffrance!
Simply Wonderful. My heart pauses each time I listen.
What a great talent! The french is so clear and precise! Beautiful song!
