Those kohlrabi fries looked fabulous. I'm so glad you baked them instead of deep frying them. I like kohlrabi, but I've only had it grated in salads. I need to start cooking them.
Thanks for all these new kohlrabi recipes! I started growing it in my garden a couple years ago b/c it's not super common in the states (at least where I live), so when you do find them, they can be relatively expensive. I usually make the kohlrabi-apple salad you described but the dressing I use is mayo-based, with apple cider vinegar. I love that salad, but now I will have to try these new ways to enjoy kohlrabi once my harvest comes in.
And I am so glad I could inspire you with our German ways to prepare it! I am glad you took the time to watch this video. Have a great week and on Sobday we will learn serious stuff about cooking German food ;)
Did you go to a culinary school? Your food always looks so nice. When I cook, I make things that taste good, but aren't always picture worthy. Yeah, Kohlrabi isn't easily available where I am in Wisconsin that I'm aware of, I'm not really familiar with it. I wonder if it would maybe be similar to squash (butternut, acorn)?
Thank you for all these great recipes for this underutilized vegetable. I don't think many Americans eat kohlrabi. I may be wrong. I love it but don't know many ways to prepare it. I usually eat it raw or steamed.
perfect time of year for this! i'm going shopping tomorrow, and was going to get the usual: cabbage, potatoes, etc. i've got some corned beef i want to make when it starts raining and cold tomorrow, but i don't see kohlrabi a lot around here, but i really should look for it. i also like broccolini this time of year or late summer. i'm not so sure most americans know what creme fresh is or how to find it, but "sour creme" is very popular here, so you might suggest that. americans like it on baked potatoes with butter.
Thanks for the tip with sour cream and I am glad I could inspire you before you actually went shopping 😉 I wonder if I can find broccolini somewhere. For me Tuesday is a grocery shopping day, on Mondays I go for a run as soon as Max is in the nursery :) have a great start to your week Skip (such German thing to say;))
@@cooking-the-world broccolini is the same as broccoli, but has much more slender stems. a lot of americans just cut off the stems, they're so thick and tough, or use them shredded somehow. broccolini has much more slender stems, and most of us just eat all of it. i admit sometimes i don't have the patience for broccoli stems sometimes, and just don't want to deal with it. most frozen broccoli does not include stems here. prolly more than you wanted to know.
I need to go round markets here and see if they have kohlrabi. It says that it belongs to broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower family but I want to see and try to prepare, and follow your recipe 😊
Thanks Korina! Kohlrabi has a very mild but interesting taste. I always have it in my kitchen because i always can cook something for my hungry boys out of it with addition of a few other ingredients. Good luck with your search. Ich really hope you will find it!
I remember my Parents raising kohlrabi in their garden when I was a child. It was served as a vegetable. Curiously, I do not remember how it was prepared or what it tasted like.
Hi. Always enjoy your vids / recipes but finding it harder (maybe just me) to understand what you’re saying. Your voice coming across with a very hollow / echo sound?
I will look into it. I bought a new mic few weeks ago, but I don’t have time to learn how to use it. But now you gave me the needed motivation 😅 thanks James.
Those Recipes Test very very very Great, my Friend 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
Excellent recipe, a must try since it doesn’t have complicated ingredients.
Thanks for posting!

Oh how wonderful! So nice that you grow your own German vegetables.

Looks delicious on a cold winter or Fall day. Thanks Giving weekend here still.

I love kohlrabis
Not an overly popular vegetable here in the US, but it is quite good!

Francis, it might be a good time to look for it and have a tasting, what do you say?:)
Has a sweet cabbage-y taste eaten raw, which intensifies when cooked imo. When fresh has the texture of a carrot, maybe slightly softer
I have never seen Kohlrabi in our USA stores here in Missouri. We do have turnips, but no one I know eats them.
😂
