Also, the claim that the charges are unrelated to the official duties of the two parents - that needs to be balanced against their own strong likelihood to hold such charges against their subordinates and colleagues. They clearly would throw employees and competitor politicians under the bus, over even just allegations of child abuse. The criminal charges are serious. Child protection officials do not bring charges unless there is strong evidence.
Agreed. My cousin is a caseworker for DCF. He said that prosecutors only bring charges in about 5 percent of child abuse allegations. The DA must have strong evidence.

Long story short. My sil was "given" (dropped off, abandoned) charge of her granddaughter. She called CPS, they basically said "what you want us to do?" So, when she snuck out, got brought home, many times they told my sil if she didn't take better care CPS would take her. Sil said "good, keep her" and shut the door. Kid called about a week later begging to come back, she allowed it. Kid was back in CPS a short time later. My sil, was retired so she moved, I think that was that, idk for sure, got differing stories. I think she's the one that keep calling 911 on her mother for stupid crap and the mother just dropped her.
