- Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small and his wife La'Quetta Small, who is the superintendent of Atlantic City Public Schools, were charged with child abuse and other crimes on Monday, rocking a city that has endured plenty of scandal over the decades.

My parent threatened me with physical violence (belt whipping) if I did not follow their rules which included always being respectful to all adults in school and elsewhere. I tested this and got whipped good. Further, if I cussed, I got to suck on soap. This fear kept me on the straight and narrow path. I excelled in school and sports and had a long successful career in law firms. Today, when I watch videos of youth totally disrespecting teachers, police and others, I see why my parents were actually being good to me. So many kids are out of control. I don't think they will make it as adults. These parents are trying help their kids. Yes, it sounds like these parents went too far, but what were they dealing with? Sometimes it takes brute force to get a kid to wake up to the fact that they cannot behave like wild animals. I would have laughed at any notion of time out. It was only out of fear that I was led to gain wisdom.

Probably told the kid she was grounded because of something irresponsible she did. Wouldnt be the first time a teen cried wolf, but who knowes.... My daughter tried to threaten she would call dfs on her father and myself because we grounded her. We told her to go ahead, the state would put her in a foster home. A black friend told me that physicality is part of their culture. I don't know about that, but the possibility of my Mom spanking me when I was 3-4, and later when I was a little older all she had to say was "I'm telling your Father" (who never laid hands on me, he didn't have to, I knew I was beyond the line of good behavior) pretty much put an end to my acting stupidly.

Sounds to me like someone wasn’t allowed to go to the future concert and they got mad and made some stuff up because if I was 16 and was beaten unconscious by my parents I would have ran out the minute I gained consciousness and called the police and showed them all the bruising and swelling that would have undoubtedly been all over me from getting beaten with a broom and punched all over my lower body until I was knocked out
