The vibe I get from this performance is such that Phantom of the Opera escaped from the theatre, stopped obsessing over the girl and got a band and got real famous and fulfilled in his life instead. And he put in the line “your beauty never really scared me” to remember those dark times and keep in mind that even though some people might run away from you because of your half-destroyed face, others will run to you and to your inner beauty that shines through your music ❤

My interpretation is that “Mary on a Cross” is a metaphor for the persecution and judgement females experience regarding their sexuality. Mary is considered “holy” in part of her virginity which is why the symbolism is so strong that she herself is on the “cross.” She’s being persecuted. Also, “not just another Bloody Mary” is really a fun line because not only can it reference the drink and the British slang of bloody, but also alludes to the idea that women bleed when they “lose” their virginity. So she’s not just another virgin, she is much more sexually experienced than that and judged because of it. Moreover, at the end of the chorus he says “I see nothing wrong with that” consoling his “Mary” that the love they have for each other is genuine and okay! He will never let her go. 🥹

there’s actually four of them :) the ghoulettes, cumulus and cirrus, who also play the keyboards, aether, the rhythm guitarist, and swiss, who plays pretty much anything and everything, including third guitar and auxiliary percussion
