- When you have to encamp in the field without any tent, but you still want a wall or a roof to protect yourself from the wind and the rain.
In such a case, ninja sometimes made simple tents using cloth or jackets.
It is called a "nonaka-no-maku".

テントの無い状況でも野宿をしないといけない時、雨や風から身を守るために壁や屋根は欲しいものです。
そんな時に忍者は布や上着を使って簡易的なテントを作ることがありました。
これを野中の幕（のなかのまく）と言います。
今週は、野中の幕について川上先生から学びましょう。

In the U.S. Army Infantry we did something like this with a poncho, but we did it lower to the ground to prevent it being seen, and offers better protection from the rain and wind.
I'm a bit surprised ninja would make their "hooch" so high up in the trees where they could be seen easier.
I think this is part of their Tanuki no justsu skillset where you hide way higher, knowing 90% of the time people rarely look above 45 degrees of field view.
...but since this is a demonstration of surviving winter and windy climate, stealth camping definitely isn't covered in this video.
@@sakurai143 That seems like a horrible strategy, as it can be seen from much farther away. If it is low to the ground and not on a trail or clearing, it can't be seen from very far away if you take advantage of camouflage in relation to the environment.
It's impossible to peer through thick foliage from far away and if you could would you see the Ninja through the wind and rain. Infantry arguing with ninjas seems an even worse strategy (lol).
I kind of want to try this sometime if I go camping.

It has been said that Master Masaaki Hatsumi is a ninja 🥷. But from your standpoint is he really a ninja from your prospective?
In the past, there were different schools (ryu) and different deadly japanese ju-jutsu styles (more than 700) which lead each area (Shogun )to develop their army, with unique and common techniques. Honestly, I think Kawakami sensei has more knowledge and is an expert in many techniques. Hatsumi is so-called the last ninja in his way (the school he is following).
