  • In this video I teach how to make metsubushi, also known as ninja blinding powder. This is one of the famous ninja tools/weapons used as a means of escape from the enemy.
    .
    Metsubushi (目潰し) are a variety of implements and techniques that were used in feudal Japan by the ninja and samurai as a way to attack the eyes for a quick escape. The ninjas job as a spy, was to steal the information and to get it back to their lord. So methods of escape to avoid a fight was more important to the ninja. Metsubushi became popular during the edo period for the samurai police to temporarily blind or disorient a criminal so they could restrain them and take them to jail.
    .
    This lesson is directly for the practitioners of the ancient Japanese koryu martial arts of the ninja and samurai, such as ninjutsu (ninpo) and bujutsu (budo).

      Pepper spray is way easier, but don't you think there are some advantages to powder vs spray? Such as it can be inhaled etc?

    I would say it would be logical to let the empty egg dry before filling? I understand in a demo that would take too long. The rice paper/glue is also key to making the egg look natural and is best hidden in a lunch box when passing through Samurai check points. Also not mentioned here, are little wood/bamboo boxes that were made to fill with powder then blow out by mouth. I am thinking it was more used with police as I can imagine you would need to get closer to the enemy than when doing it by hand.

    Hey sis, I'm a ninja too! I was testing out my own blinding powder as well. I would rather use sand and cayenne pepper, but if it's somebody very deadly than yes glass shards, metal filings and Drano. Take that bad guys!

    Alright, I have a few questions and praises. First and foremost, what is anyone's issue with your teaching or methods? I think you are amazing at teaching various skills as well as their origins and use whether it is the historical use or how it could be of use in the present times. Your ability to vulgarise information from ancient texts is simply incredible. Yoi are a very interested and passionate woman and it shows. The way you were saying in another video about internal speech and always thinking of martial arts (Ninjutsu in your case) and not specifically the combat aspect of it or plan lesson for classes but going beyond and simply having it constantly on your mind (also that no one other than your students were actually that intense and passionate about it) it seems to make it easy for you to be able to pass on your knowledge in a simple and effective and easily understasable way. Not many are able to do that.... So I'll assume it's simple jealousy on their behalf.
    Secondly, is making videos with other youtube presentator or having guests or being a guest on someone else's channel whether it would be about Ninjutsu or another martial arts exchange (philosophical or demonstrative, not specifically sparring) something you would consider? Again, I think you have a lot to teach and many people can learn a lot from you as well as Ninjutsu in general. It is sad people have a bad image of all that relates to Ninja due to media and sadly various people teaching parts only or what they wrongly understood of Ninjutsu (not to flat out call them fraud) and sold it to the masses with poor marketing and the (unwilling/unkowing) help of Hollywood. But I also understand that it is not useful to waste time on those who do not seek the knowledge... (I am quite familiar with Lavey's writings) And for those who seek it it is there to be found.
    Thirdly, do you "tour" or give seminars outside of your dojo or invite people from other dojo for such events? I know and understand that Ninjutsu cannot be taught in a day or 2 kinda thing as there are so many varius skills, combat related or not that each could take a lifetime to master.... I guess some sort of introduction to it where the physical combat and even eapon combat might be put a bit on the backburner and share the multiple faces of Ninjutsu. Owning 2 verson of the Basenshukai (1 french 1 english as the english one is longer and more complete and the translation was not done by same people nor even the same decade) has lead me to have a deeper understanding of Ninjutsu. The true thing not the fantasies. And you break it down even more and are giving living exemples and lessons from it. To me this is mindblowing that not more people are tuned on to you and your experience.
    Fourthly, did you choose a Kamon that is similar to that of the Oda clan in honour of Oda Nobunaga due to his inclusivity and lack of apprehension towards those who have a different physical appearance, such as the legendary Yusuke the Black Samurai, or is it simply a coincidence?
    If you are as a person and what other employment or source of income you have bothers people in the martial arts community or anyone who may have something to learn from you (That's like 99% of the planet) then yeah they do not deserve your time nor attention. I would say I even find it bothersome if that is truly the case as martial arts include all humans from all walk of life and if one can live off their passions and be truly as happy as they can and not have to wear a mask or pretend the what is the problem with that??
    Long message but simply, Thank you for sharing via videos all of these. I am in Canada so very far from you and I doubt anyone close to where i am even knows a quarter of what you do or even would be willing to share it. I woud say keep up te good ork but I know you will regardless of the hate or appreciation. So I can only give my appreciation this way right now. When I can, I will definitely try to have some teachings in person.

    Can you use something different than an egg for a container?

    • @SokeAnshu
      @SokeAnshu  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, generally they just used a bamboo shoot which is what I usually use for demonstrations. The egg was used and is the most talked about because it has become more "romanticized" in the media, movies, anime and manga. Generally a simple bamboo shoot loaded with irritants was more quicker and accurate to throw the powders at the enemy.

    You forgot that ninjas also used crushed glass, brick powder and powder Capsaicin. To either temporarily/ fully blind their opponents.
    Not all ninjas were merciful assassins. Ninjas were actually farmers and poor people that had enough of the Samurai’s bullshit of being pompous and ignorant lower class people who weren’t of royalty. Most of the ninjas weapons were tools. For example. The Sai was a garden tool, the sickle and chain was actually a sickle for cutting down stalks. Modified with a chain and ball to produce deadly results.
    Ninjas were amazing people.

    • @edgyboy831
      @edgyboy831 2 года назад +1

      TL;DR you're kinda right (also this reply is quite long, so you by no means have to actually read it)
      I would somewhat disagree but the concept is right, the sai wasn't really a ninja weapon, its more okinawan, similar to how people assume nunchucks are a ninja weapon, when in reality they were more Chinese or okinawan farming implements used in kobudo and such, not so much samurai or ninja, although samurai and ninja did often carry jutte, kabutowari and various versions of this as a personal defence weapon to achieve similar results. The idea that all ninjas were lower class and fed up with samurai probably isn't historically likely either, many ninja would be samurai (since samurai is a social caste) hence they would have formal martial arts training, a ninja was simply whoever was best for the job, you could hire a courtesan, a commoner and such to retrieve information. Many samurai depending on the period could be lower rank and not all that rich, they could be beurocrats, bodyguards, and many would serve their Lord. Think about the warring States period where many clans were all at odds with one another, all hiring spies to see who was allying with who, how many troops an opponent had, to spread misinformation, burn down grain stores, poison water sources, retrieve documents for information or blackmail, sometimes to set up ambushes to make your enemy think they were being attacked by another clan when it was actually you, to instigate rebellion, to retrieve evidence (or plant fake evidence) and rat your enemy out to perhaps the shogun for your own personal gain, and much much more, remember ninja were primarily intelligence gatherers, spies and espionage agents, not warriors. Although many were skilled martial artists, fighting was usually not their goal, they could die or get caught, they didn't want that. Ninja would supposedly often train in mountain villages posing as farmers or local samurai, this would allow them to train and get used to living among nature, which is quite a prevalent theme in ninjutsu, if you ever needed to you could just run into the forests and mountains and would know how to survive there, which would make running away and escaping much easier than someone who has never had to survive in such conditions. In addition to the ninja being samurai thing, some of the most famous ninjas in history were samurai, like hattori hanzo. Many of these shinobi/samueai served their Lords and were part of clans, and due to rival Lords being fed up with their antics, usually wanted to invade (especially iga and koga regions) to get rid of them, which forced many of these clans to go into hiding and pose as commoners or ronin etc. Some kunoichi (female ninja) would also go into trades as actresses, shinto shrine maidens/shamans, maiko or geisha, courtesans, waitresses in taverns and much more, all great ways to potentially gather intelligence from local drunk samurai. Although llthe movie isn't the greatest the film 'samurai marathon' has one of the more accurate representations of shinobi from a historical view, simply living as an accountant samurai who sends "apothecary medicine requests" every month, which are actually encoded messages to the shogun which basically suggest whether that lord is planning on rebelling. Which considering many samurai Lords and the shogun all had ninja planted in each others domains, many Lords had spy networks. This led some Lords to hire ninja to try and seek out enemy ninja for interrogation, sorta like how you would use a sniper to suggest where the most likely locations for an enemy sniper would be. Sorry for this huge reply, just wanted to give some feedback and waffle on for a bit...
