The way you explain it, the Shinobi was the Special Forces of the day. The avg infantry can use the weapons and fight, but it takes a higher IQ to be a SF/Spy and extra skills to operate for a long time as an individual or small group without the support the larger army, be that Infantry or Samurai. In Canada, the Kusarigama is illegal but the Kama is not. So if a Canadian student wants to be legal and still train with a Kusarigama, it is best to get an all wood or rubber Kama and attach a cord to it and a rubber weight.
I trained ninjutsu many years ago. 1989 to 1992. 3 years of training it was called the Hombo dojo. Taijutsu movement the basics along with various fighting ( modern moves for fighting in modern times ) Brian Mc Carty was my teacher. I couldnt go beyond green belt. I never developed the fighting spirit. Being honest. It must be a lifeling growth. If that makes sence. I often wonder if i stayed training .
