I think a spooky pirate set is really cool and unique.
I think a spooky pirate set is a good idea. This one just wasn’t exacuted well.

I do think this was pretty cool, like i wouldn’t have gotten it by its own but as a gwp it looks pretty good. I received it alongside the medieval blacksmith as a gift for my birthday and it was nice
I bought this off eBay because I wasn’t willing to spend the money to qualify for the GWP. Overall I enjoyed this set, it’s a nice little add on to the pirate sets I already own.
I think it's a good set. Sets doesn't have to be overly complicated or include gimmicky play features. I also prefer sets and themes with as little backstory as possible.
Being playable doesn’t mean good play features. I think those two things get twisted together to much. Same thing with story. Story doesn’t mean it put gaint amounts of lore in the instructions.
I think perhaps if this set had come with an extra minifigure or has a unique play feature on the island, it could have really helped the set.

I prefer vintage Volcano Island 6248 but this GWP is still good. It would be better with printed flags and more detailed raft.

Agree, saw this build in store and wasn't impressed. As a kid i would probably enjoy the shark like island but then I'd probably fantasize about it being able to chomp the unlucky pirate.
That’s exactly how I feel about it.
I love that shark skull build but can’t say I’m happy about the small little space we get for the castle part. It feels like theirs not a lot of room to do much with figures for playability
Right! Like like there is no room to get figures in and when I tried half the structure fell over.

That is a very good point. There are some that are worth getting like the Blacktron gwp!
I saw a lot of skull and volcano 🌋 islands 🏝️ in this GWP so i got 2 of these
I think you make a lot of great points but I think for a little 20$ pick up I'm gonna get it this January

@BrickingUpBrad I'm aware. If people only talk about what's good with a set then when I buy it I'm bound to be disappointed.

Why do you keep inverting/mirroring the main wide shot? Having the box labeling be backwards while you’re on screen with it is distracting

The Majisto gwp is getting a lot of criticism right now, but that set looks 10 times better than this pirates gwp. I wanted to like it, but i don't think i'll get this.
Honestly I really agree with this. I was hating on that gwp and then I did this review now I’m very excited to do the review for that set because it does have more potential.
I want one, they have been hard to find locally on the after market
Honestly I have been seeing them cheaper in bricklink then other after market areas (besides the fact it’s down right now)
@@BrickingUpBradtypically 3-4 sets show up on offer up locally after they are released, this set there was none. I think it’s partly the slowing economy, and people waiting on black Friday deals, so I don’t think this one sold all that great. The other thing is it’s not that great of a set, I want it, but not enough to pay shipping and all that for it.

For most GWPs, they serve simply as a parts pack for me.

I agree overall with this review. Underwhelming and lacking charm. Especially when compared to older small pirate sets

In my opinion, a good GWP should also function as a good parts pack, and this (seemingly half light bluish gray which is stupid common) just doesn’t really feel worth it in that regard.
The red bricks are nice but those were in the Halloween fun pack which has been one of my fav GWPs in recent memory. (Tho I’m emo af so I’m biased)
Those fun packs have been amazing!! Like the pirate one last year was great!

@@BrickingUpBradBecause it’s a small , unique, easy to build pirate set and it’s not a remake. Would have liked a proper pirate flag though!
I think its one of the best GWP for parts because it has rock pieces that have almost every direction of slope to make a 3d head, but also not that popular so can get them pretty cheap. Its a good rock parts builder
I never open my GWP sets I just open my package from lego and there’s a small pirate set with whatever I actually wanted I’m like cool i guess I’ll keep it
That’s a good way of looking at it but this video was more for the people who missed out on it as a gwp and are trying to decide if they should add it to there collection
the idea of an expanded fort or tower in that color scheme looks interesting, Fun concept for a treasure cave, my ideal would be get 4 of these and make more of a rock base instead of shark head and add some more black pieces to make a old watch/ light tower.

I would suggest you keep the shark head and make 2 or 3 smaller "rocks" around the fort while using the plates to make an interesting shape around the fort you want to make. Don't forget to combine the november VIP pack to get the red bricks from there as well.
@@octav1600 thanks, nice suggestions, are you talking about the christmas pack? there arent many bricks of that color. but i do like the food parts.
@@jacobe1942 There are 4 red brick elements (same as in the shark island I think) but it's a great pack for other reasons - the food, the trees, so on - so you can get a couple and use the bricks in making this fortress. Not sure where I will get it though. I plan on getting 1 Galileo and 1 Chrismas pack - but since the Majisto one is so bad, might as well get 3 Galileos instead. Just need to find something worth buying.
@@octav1600 its a pretty decent parts pack, for sure. I love the parts pack GWP no so much full sets. the pirate island though is also a pretty good parts pack because of so many rock slopes. I found some for 19$
You know, since it was creator. It should have had instructions for 2 other small builds, which I think could have redeemed it.

I'll be honest, I got it for just extra parts for MOC's. However, with the reveal of the next CMF wave, which includes a remake of Basil the Batlord, I might take the tower section and make a nice little Fright Knights build for him.

I honestly think this set pays homage to the old lego pirates sets. This one honestly reminds me of volcano island
I got 3 of these (the one I built brought me much joy and I found it a lovely set). I wanted to get 2 more, but I thought I should be a bit conservative with my budget for the Majisto GWP. After seeing that horrible thing, I regret not allocating all of my budget to getting 10 of these Shark islands. While it's simple, I like the build and I will try to see if I can make something fun out of the 3 I have. Or more.

@@BrickingUpBrad This was more to speak of how disappointing the Majisto GWP is. This set is indeed limited, but I see a lot of potential in gathering a few of these and making that pirate fortress.
Yeah I still don’t know what that tattered flag is supposed to be. I thought it was some kind of fish. You know, a second fish hanging from a makeshift structure attached to a shark’s head… one of those.
Needs more work on the tower and extend some of the island but I never knew the set was even out

In my opinion, not being able to bundle this with the pirate parts pack was a missed opportunity. On their own, neither GWP was worth putting in an order. Together it would have made more sense for a pirate fan. With that said, I did get this with the imperial outpost, so what do I know :).
Honestly pirates parts pack was a better gwp then this. I was way more excited about that pack then this one!

That’s my thoughts exactly. But just getting it for the fig isn’t even worth it in the end.
Give it a couple months and the figure parts will be available on PAB if they aren't available lol

This set does feel like it had potential, but just didn't quite stick the landing. I hope the Majisto GWP picks up the slack.
Majisto gwp is letdown. No print on wizzard torso, no dragon shield, no dragon helmet and no dragon plumes. Also knight has generic and boring fem head instead of original updated one with goatee.
The majisto GWP was already fully leaked so I will let you decide wether or not it picks up the slack
