Thanks for the awesome review Alex! Other configurations are possible, you can see some of them in the original promo video on my channel. There used to be images at Bricklink, but they've been replaced by the official product photos now. As for the pirate flags - that was personal preference. I tried both flag types and the red flags just looked better to me. The red really popped and linked it nicely to the red highlights in Barracuda Bay. PS. Great video content, your review of the Gotham City skyline set was what convinced me to buy it!
Great set The building experience doesn't seem the easiest The problem with this set is while it does benefit from a lot of detail, it didn't benefit from Lego quality control, which might have helped make it more accessible with a better build experience
I picked this one up (and the Mushroom House for a friend), but not sure how I feel about this going forward. Series 3/4 have another train, another "water building", two more fortress/castles. I just hope we get some more variety in there.
I ordered two of this and am extremely happy for having done so after seeing your review! I was fortunate enough to get Pirates of Barracuda Bay (still can't believe the short shelf life of that as I'd have invested in at least one more if retirement was known) appreciate your comparison of these two models. Definitely would like to build the ship to pair with this new model. Congrats on getting your hands on a copy 6 months before the rest of us. 😃
Great review! I really wish this set was 200 or 220. It just doesn’t feel substantial enough for the $240 price tag. Especially when compared to barricada bay which would be the same price when adjusted for inflation. Also insane we have had $40 of inflation in just 4 years…
I'm so excited to get this and the Brick Cross station. Both look incredible. I wish I didn't miss out on Barracuda Bay when it was in production. I'll get my hands on one of those one day to pair with this set.
Great Review! I have to confess, I’m on the fence about this set now that I’ve seen it up close. I love pirates (it’s the first theme I collected as a kid and the Imperial Flagship broke my dark age), but there’s just something about this set that’s off for me.
This looks very interesting, but I already have Pirates of Barracuda Bay (one of my all time favorite sets), but I don't feel like I need another pirate set unless it is a ship. Also, I have my eye on several sets in series 3 and 4 and will try not to go bankrupt before then.😂
Thanks Alex, this review sold me on this set. It’s the only one I picked up from this series. I have 2 copies of Barracuda bay that I’ve yet to build and was sold when I saw them all together with this.
I am very glad I got it. If I did not get it for review, I think there is a very good chance it would not have landed in my collection given that funds are allowing for just one purchase in this series.
Great comparison to the Barracuda bay. Looks like the Barracuda was a lot more worth getting. Yea, I will be passing on this one. One other thing. We always complain about not getting enough mini figs with official Lego sets. Why in the hell does this one have only 5 mini figs when it is designed by a non Lego person?!
Due to the rules of the Bricklink program. In the conditions for the design, there can be a certain number of minifigures for a certain number of pieces. It's a stupid rule, but Lego is to blame.
Thanks for the detailed review. I’m still on the fence for this one. It looks great and I am a pirate fan but I prefer ships. I’m also planning to get brick cross station, oceans house and mushroom house so it’s already a big spend. But will seriously consider this as it looks fantastic.
Hey Alex. You didnt notice the part of the ships mast that is being used as a lookout? Maybe the ship was torn apart and the few things that they could salvage is seen within. The captains office was likely scavenged off the boat. Yes I did order this set. I love the pirates theme.
It would look much better if it was interconnected properly and also modular in some way as well so you can still take each section off kind of like the Rivendell set or others in that same fashion.
I really wanted to like it, but as a pirates (and castle and space!) fan, I just don’t find it amazing. Don’t seem to be able to find that element that one knows is present in Lego themes in a way or another. Now, though, I’m starting to see that maybe I’m not alone. I sense from comments by some people on social media that they seem to feel the same way. There are several things in this review that sort of speak to some of what’s on my mind. I am aware of how much many other fans do like the set. I’m glad you do! As for me, though, I’m just not feeling it.
Your right this set sure would go with. Baracuta bay .the skull. Could be a little beter designed add if i had more sea space. I would get this .and their was a gwp set from last year. .that would go with the set s to
Ideas barracuda bay is one our house favorites. Is this new one going to make the shelf for you? I'm still a little burnt by ray the castway.. was so excited to get it, but in the hand its just not satisfying at all. I think the light blue water color doesn't make me happy somehow. No wasn't tempted to make an order for this.
It’s a cool set but most of these BDP sets simply feel like fancy MOCs (I mean they basically are) and since it’s all existing elements the pricing feels a bit high for every set
It's quite a different approach, that's for sure. I like it only for a shot at getting something unique, but the process of being on at the right time is not ideal. I wonder if this will evolve into something else after a year or so.
Concept is great. Get unique designs where designers get paid. Not every set needs to be on shelves for 3 years and it's just more sets for people to buy otherwise. My only gripe is the themes the are chosen each time now (castle/train)
Wait aren't you just supposed to hold up part of the set next to your face then set it behind you and ramble for 17 minutes without presenting any useful information? I do have one correction. Your card will be charged when you pre-order. The funds will be held for authorization and then refunded until the sets ship. You will need the money day one and will not have access to it for an indefinite number of days.
I have too many ethical problems with the bricklink designer program. Even though I like the design of this set I won’t buy it because it’ll sell out in the first 60 seconds of availability when 99% of customers are busy with their lives
Don't give up! Although Mountain Fortress sold out quickly in Series 1, the other sets were available long enough for everyone to have a chance to buy, even people like me in Australia!

Nice work on this set, thank you
Thanks for the comment! I wish they had kept those images on BL. I guess it was my own shortcoming. lol. Great design and I hope it has great success.
Great set

Got it. I'm looking forward to all the interesting building techniques.
And now the long wait begins.

This good. None of these figs are new. All easily purchased. LEGO upcharges for figs. Just get these off PAB.

Wow! New record holder for most sausages in a single set!
❤ now I want it even more !!!
I am hoping to get my hands on the Brick Cross Train Station

I am right there with you on Brick Cross. I think this set will appeal to those more hard core pirate fans.
Even if open backed it would have helped a lot if the rock face were sculpted as caves instead of smooth

Looking at getting the mushroom house. Others either are too expensive or I can't really use in any other projects.

I think it should be no more than $200
How much is it?
@@DUNDOM5 In France it is announced on BDP site at 219€, but Alex announced 240$ in the review.

I love the pirates theme but this set looks weird.

Looks awesome, definitely feel like there's a bridge missing, maybe because this was an early version?
I am not sure, but in the online images, it is not there either. The bridges seem easy enough to replicate though.

It has joined its pirate friends under the city. My pirate collection needs some love, that's for sure.
Too bad they didn't include one more micro-bridge for that last connection to the cannon area.
True, but it seems easy enough to replicate.
Jezz I kinda want it now
Sigh, only 1 cannon. A pirate isle with 1 cannon lmao.
2:00 My card was charged the moment I pre-ordered the Black Falcon Fortress from the previous wave. This might be a regional thing.
Are you sure it wasn't a pre-auth? I saw this on my card, but it did not run the charge. It may be a regional thing though, like you said.
It didn’t charge it, you still have your money
Great review. A but I’m not t really felling it
This won't show up at Dirt Cheap!
The only thing I don't like about these sets is online instructions. I print mine out, but it's just annoying.
It’s a cool set but most of these BDP sets simply feel like fancy MOCs (I mean they basically are) and since it’s all existing elements the pricing feels a bit high for every set
BD shows that this set has 670 unique parts
What lan members got mushroom house and logging railroad? Tiago and David got the other 2…
I am not sure. They may not be on RUclips.
I love this one unfortunately I have no space to put it😀
I'd like a second opinion. What does Jason the other guy think about this? lol
This isn't for me. I'm looking at the railroad bridge personally.
I think that railroad bridge will go very quickly.
Ah yes. The bridge to nowhere set LOL
@@studebricker2845 I can make it go somewhere. Lol.
Wonderful, another BDP series that nobody will be able to buy thanks to Lego artificially limiting supply to encourage scalpers to have a party
I will continue not supporting this weird BL designer programme concept. The sets as such are lovely, the concept is not.

ugly set.
I do not appreciate or purchase these “not available to most” Lego sets.
If I can’t buy it at Target, Walmart or a Lego store, I don’t want it.
Why be difficult about them - these are Lego sets bought from the Lego online store
