      True, if it was a commitment, they would have never produced MHx sets because Maro said it would be permanently transformative of the Modern format to print sets directly for Modern and that they were against it. But after constantly nagging and complaining about it from the players they relented and gave us what we demanded.

    Quintorius fits in the pia nalaar deck and can hit as high as showdown of the scalds. Triggers it's own ability and the other exile matters cards. It's a bit expensive as a top end in that deck but I at least see a couple being tested and having potential.

  • @Hypnusrecords

    contrary to everyone else, i do think that Discover is actually "fixed" cascade, yes the effect itself is actually better, but in place of that, its no longer a cast trigger, it can be countered etc

    At this point, even if I am not the biggest fan of masters sets. I hope for a universes within masters or so, that brings a bunch of universes within version's of stuff like the one ring, out of the tombs, everybody lives, legolas quick reflexes etc... I think that would be like at least 4 years from now, but would sell pretty well, since they push the powerlevel so hard on universes beyond and a masters set will be needed for reprints. Yeah my hope to get in magic version's of that stuff 😅

    I can't believe how right Seth always is. Also the blue god is a quatl, so technically not a snake, but more like a rainbow serpent dragon thing. But also Seth is super right and Quintorius is awesome.

    Aclazotz is also the only god that doesn't have Ojer as part of its name. I think Aclazotz is an interloper of some sort. Which is why he also has a second creature type and isn't purely just a god. That's my assumption/theory

    • @AMageOldAsDirt
      @AMageOldAsDirt 10 месяцев назад +1

      Aclazotz attempted and is now attempting again to snuff out the inner sun of Ixalan, Chimil. He created the vampires on Ixalan, and now that he's freed he's giving them demonic powers. Note how there are a few vampire demons in the set, and the vampire precon commander explicitly turns vampires into demons. And to be clear he's not the only god with a second creature type. The Ancient One previewed yesterday is a Spirit God. The Ojer are the gods of the Oltec, Aclozotz is the god of Dusk Legion, and The Ancient One isn't mentioned in the story so who fuckin' knows

    • @AgonalRhythm
      @AgonalRhythm 10 месяцев назад

      I think you're right. It seems like the lore is set up to imply that the Bat God betrayed the Oltec who live in the hollow earth city and enslaves their spirits after death.

    • @AgonalRhythm
      @AgonalRhythm 10 месяцев назад

      Furthermore, there's Vito, Fanatic of Aclaztoz who is part of the invading vampires of the Dusk Rose. Possibly, Aclaztoz compelled the vampires to come or otherwise is associated with them. Cosmologically, the invading vampires fits with the interloper bat god in the pantheon

    I think its important to remember that Brass' Tunnel-Grinder is an artifact, which is important for Bargain. The fact that it's card filtering AND fuel for Beseech the Mirror the next turn makes it better than it appears on its face. It also perfectly enables the 5 mana mass reanimate spell from WOE which is also pretty interesting.

    • @oDMACo

  • @buckleupbt
    @buckleupbt 10 месяцев назад +2

    Don't forget that Brass' Tunnel Grinder is a permanent as well. A wheel on a permanent is good, especially one that can be Sun Titan'd or Cosmic Rebirthed or whatever format you're playing. I can see this card being very good in historic personally.

    • @matthugenberg8869
      @matthugenberg8869 10 месяцев назад +1

      Also, descended also says "permanent from ANYWHERE" So if you discard a permanent to its ability, it triggers that first turn you have it in play. So it flips probably on turn 5 or 6. Which is probably good enough.

    Something important to remember is this is Hasbro, creators of Monopoly. They have a very long history of borrowing other IPs to sell their products

    • @ancienthangover
      @ancienthangover 10 месяцев назад +2

      Monopoly was created by Lizzie Magie in the early 1900s to demonstrate the inherent unfairness and toxicity of monopolies specifically how rents enrich property owners and impoverish tenants. It was picked up by Parker Brothers at the time, who was later bought out by General Mills and then Hasbro. But you are right. Hasbro buy up successful companies and then strip them of all value until the brand is dead and move on to the next one.

  • @thatepicwizardguy
    @thatepicwizardguy 10 месяцев назад +4

    They can't actually keep going with random IPs forever unless they own them. If the temporary licensing makes them a ton of money the companies who see that will probably also charge more next time IF there's a next time... do we really think they're gonna top marvel easily? I could see harry potter or something which comes with controversy attached but there's not much that even gets close to marvel and this is NOT a marvel game.
    I think WotC would be absolute fools to not continue to maintain the in-world stuff that makes magic magic. If they're not gonna do that then Hasbro needs to find a way to get long term contracts with these other IPs or they'll absolutely run out of content and burn the candle way too fast ending up with short term money and long term damage only.

    Haven’t felt this happy about how a set was turning out since Neon Kamigawa.

As an example, i dont think 2+blue search for a basic plains/island/swamp to put into play tapped is too much, especially considering most people are "too good" to play 3 mana rocks nowdays.

    Question for the community. We all know that Lord of the Tings was the biggest selling set in history. Would it have sold as well without the 1 of 1 serialized One Ring and the serialized Sol Rings?
    So WOTC has to do that for every set to get it to sell or they are market flops. Serialized cards will become what full art cards have become, worthless.

    Yes the comments were 10+ years ago, yes companies and opinions change, but these types of comments contribute to consumer confidence and players opinion of the brand at large.
    UB waters down MTG IP for the sake of making a profit, and people who want MTG IP to succeed on its own merits are at odds with WOTC/Hasbro’s need to maximize profit. Hasbro has changed MTG from Magic to Monopoly, they shelled out for the game system with the sole intent to use it as a substrate to paste other IP onto. Monopoly is one of the most ubiquitous, well known, and highest played board games in the entire world… but nobody gives a shit about the lore of Racecar/Top Hat or the backlash of changing Boardwalk into some other title. Magic had 25+ years of people investing in and caring about MTG itself, not only the game system but all the pieces and backstory associated to them.

I think my main problem is it gets weird when you start seeing outside of commander. Maybe a new format for paper with UB in mind could help this and not putting it in modern. I agree that we shouldn't give Mark too much flak but at the same time you're not giving him enough. It wasn't that long ago let's be real so his word/opinion has been weakened by that turn of event. I don't think his opinion truly holds weight anymore, it's clear corporate is behind him and validating what he says. Imo you're being naive if you think he "doesn't have to do it, he's doing it out of the kindness of his heart". It might have been true in the past, but it is a marketing / public relation tool among others now.
    Also WotC (not him personnally) definitely sold out their integrity for money. They didn't change their opinion on other people's IP because of "unspecified new information", unless by that you mean money. That information was money.

I can only assume big $ & promises to “rent” the IPs & obviously, from the amount of juice & flavor put into those sets, the designers been bustin their a##e# off. All these while power level, balance & general sweetness of many other sets of WotC’s own IPs, were sacrificed on their own altar. Just look at how weak & disappointing the D&D sets have turned out. Have a grok at the card for Tarrasque (& many others) to get an idea.

    This is far from the biggest problem with Mark saying stuff on Blogs. Lying about the reserved list has done tons of harm to the game and community.
    I think his blog is just another way for them to manipulate the customers. If you think WotC doesn't read his posts and control his language, I have a bridge to sell you.

    With the Mycotyrant as it's written as fungi, it wouldn't trigger off itself as its a key word fungus. If the other fungus creatures also say fungus rather than fungi then this card only works off saplings

      That's... that's not how any of this works. It's the same as writing Elves and not Elf creatures for Abomination of Llanowar. Magic rules understand the concept of plurals.

    As a newer player without the nostalgic rose-colored glasses on, Rosewater has a good reputation with players that doesn't fit his history of action. People like to claim Hasbro runs the show, and they do, but that doesn't mean Rosewater isn't a bootlicker. He is a coward who somehow can't manage to ever actually stick up for what is best for the game in the midst of ever increasing mindless corporate profiteering. Just endless excuses about "market forces" and damage control for shitty decisions Wizards makes in favor of maximum revenue at the expense of the player experience.
