I get so excited when you post regular videos, warms my heart everyday. They are so satisfying as the weather start changing in Maryland. I am so excited to see where gardening will take me next year. Thank you for motivating and encouraging, I love your voice.....so calming..
Jo Jo Nice. Me to, but I use the evergreens in my front garden and it still looks really great. The back garden on the other hand is looking more like a fall garden.😊😊
LOL the problem is "operator error" --- so true. Same thing when technology fails: it's usually operator error. Thanks for this tour, Linda ... always lovely to see your space!
Linda I'm so envious I'm 5b/6a and the only thing I've had luck with in pots outside are arborvitae. In a colder growing climate to plant in pots they need to be rated a few zones colder at least for me if I'm gonna try again. I had even tried to move a baby gem in a beautiful ceramic pot on my 3 season porch and the pot cracked and the plants roots froze. So that was a sad learning experience. I'm very envious of your beautiful garden I love all the shapes and forms you have.
It’s all so fresh over there. I’m definitely appreciating all the green you use. When flowering plants aren’t blooming, you’ve got this gorgeous tapestry of green textures. I also love your top! Looking gorg! I have a very hard time with camellia. My climate is not ideal but I love them and I try despite the conditions.
I have struggled with them too. Like my friend says, I think the trick is to get them established. Once you can get them to that point, I think they are much more forgiving :-)
I have heard Linda talk about fatshedera before and saw one at my local nursery a few months ago. Told myself "no" trying to resist buying more. After this video, I caved, went back and bought the shrub. It is such a pretty accent in my garden! It was a good decision! Thank you for your wisdom Linda!
Linda, again thanks. I was hoping you would do a video like this and I so appreciate it. I got my list and will be looking for these. I love it all such a beautiful garden! Such great talent. Thanks again!
Thank you Linda for helping motivate me. I’ve been battling illness & gardening has always been my life saver & passion. I go to sleep watching your videos & wake up watching them. Your passion & curiosity are contagious. Nothing makes me feel better than planning & planting a garden. A world where I never stop learning & growing. Btw, operator error😆 made me laugh... Have you considered putting the names of your collection in captions as you tour your garden? Sometimes you move pretty fast, I need to take notes! Just wanted to thank you for sharing & try & describe the effect you’ve had on my life. It’s spring & I’m back in my garden. Hopeful & replacing so many things I’ve lost during my illness. I thought I’d given up.💝
Girl, I am totally smitten by your style. I've been binge watching when I can, thank you so much for the videos! I love your use of height and layering, so everything isn't all at ground level. So many pots, with plants that are tall or which spread or which climb or run or drape, and then all the round, cone or pruned forms which bring structure, and whimsy. Then all the hardscaping and decoration of the pots themselves and your ornamental concrete and wire forms. So much eye candy!! I can't get enough. I am going to be copying some of it for sure. I will be attempting some topiary too. I live in the rugged rural rocky area South of you in North Texas, and I have a messy rocky dry clay former goat and cattle pasture for a growing area, where we've been for 5 years, concentrating on growing an orchard and a food garden. But now I want some flowers and ornamentals too! My front "yard" is a wildflower area, and nothing here is evergreen, so I hope to change that now that you've given me so many ideas for greenery, especially using pots and containers. My hubby thinks I've lost my mind. I've been looking for larger containers and buying baskets!! And my Amazon bill has grown! Wish I had your energy too though. Such inspiration! Thank you!
You are not that far from me! You should come in the spring and I will give you a personal guided tour! And by the way, if you can garden there, you can garden anywhere :-)!
@@LindaVater Funny you should say that about gardening anywhere. I've been considering digging up some of the native bushes and trees around here and trying my hand at topiary with them. They're deciduous, and many of them are thorny, but they're free! One thing I haven't seen you address yet is foraging for plants. I'm wondering how difficult it will be to dig up an established tree sapling and turn it into a potted tree and then maybe into a topiary. I guess it depends on if it is tap rooted or if it has spreading roots, and I imagine the smaller the tree sapling or seedling the better. I did see in one video where you have some evergreen trees, were they blue spruce? Anyway, you said they had self-seeded and you had moved them to pots. I have tons of Cedar Elm saplings out here to practice on, and other prickly small leaved natives. I see online where someone has used the cedar elm for a bonsai, but can't find any done as topiary. I love all the SL plants too though and am itching to get my hands on some. I did buy 5 plants last time I was at Lowe's and really want to try some of the others too. If I ever get to OK City, I may just look you up. A tour would be awesome! But I'll keep watching. I know it must feel like you're living your garden life in a fishbowl, but just know out here we're loving it. Thanks!!
Your garden covers so many varieties. It's beautiful. My house is up on the hill, rocky and lots of shade surouned by tall trees.. So it's really hard to planting except for woodland plants nothing grow straight. Furthermore deers come down and eat them even they are deer resistant. But I cant stop buying plants bc I love them.
Love that "Touch of Gold" holly in your collection! I have to say I have also enjoyed my purchases from the Southern Living Collection. I bought 3 lemon-lime nandina, 3 Sweet Viburnum "Coppertop," and 1 "Paul's Gold" Cypress. We had a dry summer here, so I have been careful to keep them watered.
Wonderful video! You have inspired me to try shrubs etc in pots. I’ve enjoyed lots of these plants and have a lot of shady areas. Thank you Linda! And your shirt is adorable! 🌾🍁💐
Thought there was going to be a slide to grab a pic of at the end with plant names. Did I miss it?? Love every single video you shoot. A fixation....a good one! Love all the ideas!!
Love the video. Where did you get the concrete pots that hold the columnar holly and flank your back door?! Having a very hard time finding a mail order company that sells great pots (other than Haddonstone at $700+ a piece).
Wonderful tour as always Linda. You're always asking for suggestions on what people want to see and I sure would appreciate you quickly mentioning the type of TREE that you pass by as you are describing newly planted plants and shrubs. I'm a tree and shrub lover (I think you are too). SO, I was wondering what type of tree is near your back stairs onto the bistro area(next to the Yewtopia). Its a three trunked tree. Maybe a Crepe Myrtle ? 😊 thanks
Your fall foliage is fabulous! The first pot you showed us near your back door...what is the light green understory plant and is it winter hardy in your zone? It looks similar to a foxtail fern. Thank you! ❤️
Second snow of the year. Love the snow. But your tour makes me yearn for spring!. Our little 'Fixer upper,' retirement cottage needs a redo inside and out. The inside is 90% done. The outside has been sorely neglected for a long time. Just discovered you and am learning slot. Esp about container gardening.Question...I know terracotta pots are great but can the winter outside?. And concrete pots are the epitome of gardening containers. Question about the faux concrete pots...Will the plants in those pots weather the seasons as well as a real concrete pot? I've seen some lovely faux concrete pots. They would be easier for me to handle than a 'similar' real pot. And the price is a bit kinder than a real concrete pot! We're on a fixed income now and have ALOT of gardening to do. We're in zone 7..central/Northern Virginia. Thanks so much.
Love your shows but Linda tell zones of the plants. I’m in Collingwood Ontario Canada in zones 6a snd 6b. It saves me looking everything up. Love your garden. We are in total lockdown here and we are all exhausted.
Beautiful, Linda. How do you keep the rosemary so small ? Mine is 8' wide and 5 ' tall. I love it - Obviously - keep planting it. Need to see if I can prune. Usually Rosemary doesn't particularly like to be pruned. Maybe I'm not doing at the right time.
Could you do a video on which potted plants you leave out over winter. Also do you have problems with water freezing in the pots and breaking them. BTW, I live in 7b zone too here in the upstate of South Carolina.
Hi Linda - I’m loving your videos! A newbie gardener here. I’m in Atlanta - 7B. How do you care for your Colorguard Yucca over the winter? We have one that was smushed flat with a blanket we threw over it to protect it - and while it lived - it’s completely flat with no upward leaves. Any advice? Many thanks!
Love your videos Linda and I don't really like boxwood or topiaries. They are too formal for the look I am after. I love that you painted your utility box and piping to match your trim. Ingenious. Why have I not thought of that ? Do you have to ask for permission to do this or not? I am going to paint mine to match the wood siding we have. Thanks and Happy Fall from MS.
I ordered that Holly through the mail. It died right away. Surprised me it did it s o fast. It is a lovely plant so I will probably give it another try. As we know, sometimes plants ju s t die. Keep your eye on it.
It would just be way too difficult since there is so much mature foliage all around it. Plus, sections of it will need to be replaced before too long :-)
Would you mind sharing the name of the plant that has it's foliage intertwined with your Lime Firebush, one of the last few plants you featured in the video. The plant foliage I'm inquiring about has a kind of lacey texture to it. Thanks!
Garden boots is probably one of the few excesses I have. But I do wear all of them, in and out of the garden. With dresses, with shorts… On and on. Mostly, it depends on the time of year. I sometimes wear clogs yes. But boots have my heart :-)
Can you please spell the plant that you started with that is right outside your back door? I love it but I can’t find it probably because I can’t figure out how to spell it! LOL!
I attempted to go to the website and found that they are out of stock; however, I tried to use their waitlist feature and it doesn’t seem to be working! Did anyone else have any luck?
Good morning Linda, I lOVE your videos however I'm wondering if anyone has complained about 2 videos that play before you that cannot be avoided. One is "How to charge 2 devices..." which runs about 4 minutes and the other is "Genesis Technology" which runs immediately after running at 1:09:37. This is very distrubing!! Thanks.
Love all those Magnificent shades of Green.Nature is so Amazing.💓

I love that baby boxwood. In a square shape. Very nice.

what a GORGEOUS planter at the beginning of the video by your backdoor. The greenery is so easy on the eyes.
Thank you for wearing the beautiful two tone colored wellies.

Linda which is the one that you're going to be doing tutorial on third one I think it was a little pot so I can find one and maybe do it with you user
I wish you would type the botanical name on the screen of each plant you talk about in the video,
