      We've gotten VERY lucky the last few trips with no traffic! Rt 91 for some reason always has traffic, so we taking the boring route, 84, the whole way.

    Happy Birthday to your mom! Glad you and the family had a nice road trip. The rest stop on the GSP near exit 172 in Montvale is closed for renovations and just a few miles from my home. James Gandolfini grew up in nearby Park Ridge. That area on the Parkway near Newark is tough with the narrow lanes especially during the summer I think they squeezed in a 5th lane without widening the road! Connecticut is always a tough go and just impossible if it snows.

      @ReelJayB  5 дней назад +1

      Northern CT by the Mass line is terrible if it snows because of thr hills. Got caught in it once, it was not fun! The north end of the GSP is beautiful out there, I can only imagine what the fall foliage looks like!

    Hope your mom had a great birthday. Merry Christmas to you and your family Jay. May you all be blessed with health and happiness this coming year. As for snow equipment.....CARDBOARD! Get a box and cut it or break it down and rub the snow side with wax paper. Goes faster and smoother than any sled! Rub the bottom of your snow board or whatever you have with wax paper too!! ZOOM! You're so brave making that trip. The 6 1/2 hours to OC was almost more than we could do before my husband died. I'm about to make my FIRST 3 hour drive to my daughter's in Sykesville, Md......and I'm terrified!! Wish me luck!

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  6 дней назад +1

      Sykesville! We know that area very well, we have friends from out that way that moved here. Hope you have a safe trip, 3 hours isn't too bad....I always explain it to my kids in "movie" terms. 1 movie is about an hour and a half so it's a 2 movie length drive for you! Merry Christmas.

    So much of this drive is familiar. We drive from Lancaster up to Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. Not sure if you hit them on this drive but I hate those roads just into Connecticut that are 2 lane and everyone drives like a bat out of hell. They have gas/rest areas right next to the road which makes it even more fun. Safe travels home!

      I spent A LOT of my youth skiing at Gunstock, so I know that area of NH well. Very beautiful in the winter time!

      Kicking myself we didn't. We were hoping to leave earlier, but the kennel didn't open until later to drop our dog off. Once day I will go there, I've always wanted to try it.

    On your way back south, as you cross the bridge back into DE, try a foot long dog in New Castle on 13 at The Dog House. Cash only.

    Tappan Zee is a name that refers to both a widening of the Hudson River in New York and the bridge that crosses it:
    The widening
    A natural widening of the Hudson River in southeast New York, between Tarrytown and Nyack. The name comes from the Dutch words "Tappan" and "zee", which mean "Tappan Sea" and refer to the river's wide, sea-like appearance at this point. The Tappan Zee is about 3 miles wide and 10 miles long.
    The bridge
    The Tappan Zee Bridge was a cantilever bridge that crossed the Hudson River at its second-widest point. It was built from 1952 to 1955 and was the longest bridge in New York State at the time. The bridge was replaced in 2017, and the old bridge was demolished in 2019.
    The name "Tappan" may come from the Lenape word Tappaen, which may mean "cold water stream". The Tappan people were Native Americans who lived in the area and may have greeted the first Europeans to settle in the Lower Hudson Valley.
