One of the greatest features of all time: Jedi Mind Tricks ft. R.A. The Rugged Man - "Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story" I know copyright with Jedi Minds Tricks can be a problem, but a standalone music video of R.A.'s verse only is also on RUclips.
That song has a crazy outro that has super clever bars that you should do a video on. I'd really love to hear you break that down (it's not super long)
“And crying out to the sky 'cause he was lonely and scared. But only the devil responded, 'cause God wasn't there” is my favourite line, it hits like a truck.
What sucks when you dance with the devil your whole life and then you look for God one time but you've been pushing him away since day one.😢 He would have had to shoot everybody on the roof.
The irony of sampling "The Theme From Love Story", such an iconic romance movie, & using it as the background throughout to emphasize lyrics of a song that's the total antithesis of that always gets to me. It's total genius.
The original piano theme was composed by Francis Lai, lyrics written by Carl Sigman & the song was performed by Andy Williams. Henry Mancini's orchestra performed it as part of the score for the 1970 movie "Love Story" that featured Ryan O'Neal & Ali McGraw. I'm pretty sure it won the Oscar for best film score in 1970 or 71; not certain which year. It's a beautiful piano piece. The main theme's actually quite simple, although obviously it can also be played in a far more advanced way too, so it's a favourite of mine for my students to learn. Immortal Technique's sampling of it & the way he used it was genius.
Obnoxious or Freedom of Speech next please. This is such an intense track. I will never forget the first time I heard this, I was sobbing. And that's what showed me Immortal Technique was different. The story telling is on a whole different level. Deep subject matter. Glad you finally did this track
I remember listening to this song one night walking home after work, and that last verse gave me the biggest chills and I had to turn off my iPod and take out my earbuds for a minute to get that eerie feeling out of my body. Thanks for the reaction man. Solid as always.
Dude same! My brother had left his mp3 player in our lunch box (we both worked graveyard shifts together so we shared one). I was working by myself that night and decided to use his mp3 player and halfway through my shift this song came on and that last verse made me put his mp3 player back in the lunch box for a while 😂
I was introduced to Immortal Technique by my brother around middle school and I just loved the sound of his songs, it wasn't until highschool that I started to really understand the lyrics and this song in particular hits so hard because I'm named William. His storytelling drags you in so deep it drowns with emotions. We are all in the melting pot, many people all around the world have felt the same as Billy, hopefully though you don't go as far as him for that recognition.
This is the first time I've heard this. I've heard of it, just never listened. That literally just turned my stomach. Haven't had such a physical reaction to a song in a long time. Just wow 😳
I just looked this up two days ago bcuz you mentioned them in a live! It is an incredible song! I had tears in my eyes & a knot in my throat! Amazing storytelling through rap! Hope you & fam are doing gr8! much luv, Professor ✌️🖤
What blew my mind is seeing the influence of this track on Ren's Tale of Jenny and Screech (particularly Violet's Tale)- I'd be surprised if it wasn't an influence. He even has a line "The devil comes to dance" in there.
This was legit the first song I sat and actually listened to the lyrics. The way he told the story i felt like I was watching a movie in my mind theater.
You know what the worst of it is for me? That melody... is the theme song form the 70s movie Love Story... Sickening. That's why he used it, I think, to make the blow in the gut even harder. Well done.
Thank you for pointing out the background of the character and explaining it. I’ve never seen it on a reaction channel. It’s so pivotal to story, and I have no idea why everybody misses it. It’s a setup. He was quick to “tell” They were quick to get rid of him…in the worst possible way. All that glitters isn’t gold.
I remember when I found Immortal Technique in like 04 or 05… this guy is crazy 😂 I’ve grown a lot since then but I was really into his music. So many other songs with crazy bars….. Some of my favorites: Internally Bleeding, Industrial Revolution, Crossing the Boundary, and The 4th Branch. He drops so much history and knowledge it’s out of control. No one is on his level in that manner.
Been waiting for this one been a long time coming. My homie above me beat me to the punch. I’m ready for Knoxs mind to be utterly blown. This one hits hard❤ Also Knox I don’t know if you will see this but knowing you are an mic one mic to another. The piano sample comes from “theme from love story” by Henry Mancini ❤😉
Thank you for reacting to this.. never heard it before, and was blown away by the storytelling and the gut punch it gives you… I was not expecting to see just how much this must have inspired the Tales (Ren),esp. Screech’s character.. and the fact that Ren actually directly referenced this in Voilet’s tale.. Can we please have more?? I am now intrigued
That song has a crazy outro that has super clever bars that you should do a video on. I'd really love to hear you break that down (it's not super long)
I love immortal technique. His collab with Jedi Mind Tricks always got me into them, which then lead to my love for Vinnie Paz. Also introduced me to R.A the Rugged Man. Edid* Love the song Uncommon Valor by JMT and R.A & Fradulent Cloth featuring Eamon (who has amazing vocals).
Never clicked so fast before, love the video but I wished you did the full version of the song with the bonus track with Diabolic at the end. Got to do rich man’s world and no mercy next
The thing about immortal technique is he never had to give you the most complicated bars are schemes to impress you. His words and how he chooses to use them are very powerful
There are several more Technique tracks you should check out next. I recommend The 4th Branch, Leaving The Past, Creation & Destruction, and You Never Know
This and Tupac’s ‘Brenda's got a baby’ are 2 of the greatest hip hop songs that are just too dark for me to listen to often, but I respect them like hell!
Im not really an IT kinda guy (I'm more on Mic Righteous, Coast Contra, Little Simz kinda vibe), but that said mans a damn talented storyteller. Thank you for continuing to shed light on a wide range of talent across the hip-hop spectrum - if nothing else you're helping your viewers broaden their pallette, and some underrated/underappreciated artists get some more exposure. On a side note: id love to see you and SFJ go toe-to-toe, verse for verse on a beat. Your styles might not seem like theyd go together on face value - but I'm from the UK, we do a lot of styles clashes over here and it works - you two would help level each other yet even further!
It says "rapper reacts to immortal technique for the first time". It means it's his first immortal technique reaction on the channel, not the first listen. Knox even said he has heard it before in the video
This it's one of the few songs that actually made me feel sick, the dark instrumental and Immortal Technique's verses are so haunting and graphic but also really clever and mind blowing. Like how he introduced Billy into the story and details like the thugs covered the woman's face with cloth before the plot twist at the end when they revealed her face. This song is a masterpiece of storytelling and definitely the most striking storytelling song of all time. Maybe you could do "Rich Mans World" or "Dominant Species" next Knox.
that piano is from resident evil the game haha pay attention :D also one of only a few people abba gave permission to use there song ( richs mans world (
I'm late to this but first time I heard this song I was mind blown by the picture he paints with his lyrics. He is a fantastic story teller, and extremely talented.
Damn, so glad to see this video. Was thinking of making a recommendation months ago but thought, somebody has to have recommended this song already and/or you've probably heard it. Wether it's a reaction or review I'm cool with it either way. Great job. This song is powerful. Even though some people have a hard time getting through the story itself, it's told beautifully. Immortal technique is pretty unique and everyone should hear this song at least once in their lifetime
Yo Knox, this is absolutely unrelated but I thought I'd let you and anyone else know that Rurouni Kenshin is getting a 2023 revamp cuz u told us it's your fav anime and all that. Also side note: love your music man!
I would love to see you react to some Lowkey stuff. His track _Voices of the Voiceless_ actually features Immortal Technique but he has a lot of other tracks that really hit hard lyrically. _Letter to the 1%_ always brings tears to my eyes, and _Ghosts of Grenfell_ is truly haunting, especially if you are familiar with the tragedy.
LETS GOOOO THIS SONG IS AMAZING!! So excited for this The bars are insane and the “story” (allegedly) is an absolute mind fuck for first time listeners When I play this for people the first time I make sure they arnt distracted and I do give them a trigger warning.
I don't know that I would call this the most controversial rap song. It is a very well written and performed by Technique! I've gotta pull out the CD of this album and listen to it again. It's been probably 15 years since I last heard it. Great memories, despite the lyrics, have come back with hearing this again. One of the all time greats!
"Where do I begin, to tell the story of how great a love can be...?" Of course it is a haunting and melodic piano; it is the theme to the movie Love Story. Still one of the more recognisable of the Hollywood soundtracks even more than 50 years after the movie was released. My introduction to this song, was by way of Ren's mention "...the devil comes to dance..." in Violet's Tale (last song in Ren's Tales trilogy. For those who don't know, watch them in order!!). Someone in those comments suggested it was a nod to Immortal Technique, so I looked the song up. I wish my first listening had been hearing you break it down!
Was lucky enough to see Immortal Technqiue and Lowkey live together! This song is so powerful and heart breaking knowing that this shit happens in real life :(
This song came out when I was 1. I heard it for the first time in early middle school, and it really hit hard. I kind of forgot about it for a while, but man, years later, this shit...so goddamn dark. Excellent storytelling. Great job on the breakdown, as always knox
Honestly I think this is a song that most people need to hear because it is just that powerful. Also, is it just me or is the hidden track on this slept on?
"He's a kid that really didn't have a mother that wasn't really there for him and a father that wasn't there so he didn't have that guidance and he didn't have that parental gratification so what is he doing now? He has to go out to the world and seek it through others, he needs others to applaud him and needs others to give him his props and respect instead of finding it and being confident within himself " Dam yo... I'm 29 and been thru rehab... seen psychologists... tried talking to friends and family and I can't never really say what's wrong with me... depression, anxiety.. nd others stuff I'm too ashamed to mention but this quote right there just hit me hard. Had to save this in my notes... its hard talking to even trained professionals when oneself doesn't even know how put words together that makes sense. Thank you
I had the honor of seeing Immortal Technique perform this song live either the year before COVID or 2 years before it and he actually broke the song down the song right after He said that he lied about the very ending of this song because he wanted to create the cinematic and controversial effect but the real reason of making this song was to point out the darker and sicker truth of what it takes to get into the serious gangs/cartels lifestyle in order to make that money He then proceeded to say if you witness any form of r**e to go beat their ass first then worry about the police and legal system afterwards
I've been listening to a lot of Finnish rap from the early 2000s lately (for those of you who don't know, I'm Finnish), and this sound is very similar... I cannot exactly pinpoint what it is, that make them sounds similar to me, since I'm quite new to rap, but they do somehow... The flow is very similar at least, and the storytelling, and the sample he chose - a simple beat and a piano. (And what Knox said about "letting the sample happen", refering to the piano part and "fading it out" in the end...) The lyrics are different, though. Finnish rap of that time is usually about political/societal topics, downsides of drug use and/or mental health problems. But I've heard some horrorcore songs back in the day, and these lyrics here are something between a normal early 2000s Finnish rap song and a horrorcore song, maybe closer to the horrorcore. Which is, although, part fiction and part real things that happened to other people (true crime). Not something the artist themself were a participant in. Hopefully. (This song didn't have this, but I recently learned from another source what "a hype man" is, and that was also very common in Finnish rap of the time.) The exact sample he used in this song hit me right in the feels as well... A person I knew in the past introduced me to a cover version of the original song and I still can't listen to the song without thinking about them and feeling sad about the fact that we no longer speak to each other... Music is such a strong force, some songs just stick with you, for years or for decades... And for the first time I agree with you, Knox, that joke you made WAS terrible (the "reverse UNO card of life" one)... I appreciate your ending statements very much, though. Thanks for returning my faith in you after the joke. ;) (Jk, btw, I never lost faith in you.)
Yes knox!!!!!! Immortal technique!!!!! Lets fucking go bro!! YES!!!!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY! Please more please 🙏 the world needs these other tracks!!!!!

Had to save this in my notes... its hard talking to even trained professionals when oneself doesn't even know how put words together that makes sense. Thank you
Very rare do I like a reaction video man, well done! Love this reaction
I had the honor of seeing Immortal Technique perform this song live either the year before COVID or 2 years before it and he actually broke the song down the song right after
He said that he lied about the very ending of this song because he wanted to create the cinematic and controversial effect but the real reason of making this song was to point out the darker and sicker truth of what it takes to get into the serious gangs/cartels lifestyle in order to make that money
He then proceeded to say if you witness any form of r**e to go beat their ass first then worry about the police and legal system afterwards
All his songs are fire need to check out more of his music. Deff top 3 if not my fav rapper out there
Rocking Squat feat Inmortal Technique "Democratie Fasciste" , i remember i loved that one, with Wendy Rene's sample
Hopefully.
(This song didn't have this, but I recently learned from another source what "a hype man" is, and that was also very common in Finnish rap of the time.)
The exact sample he used in this song hit me right in the feels as well...
Thanks for returning my faith in you after the joke. ;)
(Jk, btw, I never lost faith in you.)
