Great work Knox. I need your help to hopefully help Ren? I saw a few documentaries about this Nobel Prize winning research into Phage display and therapy. It's ground breaking stuff. Important because of the rise in antibiotics resistant Superbugs. Does that remind you of a situation?I've been trying to get your friend and his team to take a look at this for themselves. What do I know, I'm just a lorry driver?
Have you ever reacted to The White Buffalo, the singer is Jake Smith. A couple good intros to him would be The Whistler live at Guitar Center or Wish It Was True official video. Amazing soul, haunting voice and great sing writer! Worth a listen.
Just realised that in all my excitement explaining like 100 things at once I forgot to point out the obvious wordplay on Jekyll & Hyde/Hide so just adding to the breakdown here!! Let me know your favorite bars 🤟
You're like the only reactioner does not have to apologize cuz you do a great job of picking everything up. You got the Greek stuff. Ren stuff. Maybe that last tiny moment of, "Who Dat?" at the ending. I give you an A+ for the care and effort you put in. I come for a little bit of a rap knowledge. But it's for the personality and how you share.
I was thinking the something about the Jekyll thing. He typed it as jeckyl on the lyrics, so I was thinking it was Jekyll and jackal combine because jackal is a symbol of the underworld/death and its in the same verse as talking about the devil and jezebel. My brain instantly associated jackal when I read it, but also he says “A jeckyl” so if it was relating to just Dr. Jekyll, i feel like it wouldn’t have “a” in front of it because that’s not how people are referred to. People were speculating it was a typo when I brought it up. What do you think?
I'm only a couple minutes in, but your intelligence and range of knowledge matches Rens so well that we really get the most from your reactions. The Greek myth stuff in this and then the Orwell references an animal flow really helped me understand the two so much more.
Same! I love this dudes videos, his eminem ones are great too. Be sitting here thinking im catching all the little references and wordplay...until I watch a know hill breakdown and it always takes the song to a whole other level. Heard hi ren a few years back and loved it but for some reason never got around to checking out his other stuff until just a couple months ago, just found out Knox had a few of these for his videos and been binging them ever since. I'll have to watch the animal flow one next, that and this song I didn't really care for all that much the first time I simply listened to it but again, were on a new level with slaughterhouse now so maybe I just didn't get animal flow.
Great video, Ren's music is dense with references and technicality, so I've always appreciated your breakdowns. You've got a great mind dude, I always look at your videos as a legitimate source of knowledge, rather than just a reaction channel from a musician. Your ability to process and communicate on the fly is very rare; I'm glad you're out there with your talents, making what I believe is a very positive impact on the world. Go with it, I believe in you.
It is also a 6+1 or 7. Seven is mentioned multiple times, it is a connection to the song Seven Sins. Those 6+1 are physical representations of Ren's seven sins and the real Ren comes and kills his own sins. One can say, it is a story of healing and redemption and struggle, as Ren is fighting his own sins. His struggle on Earth(Gaia), his hellish fight with his sins(Titans inside Tartaros) and his desire to reach a better place(Elysium). The slaughter house can be seen as a purgatory, where a fallen angel that went through hell some time ago, is trying to repent in order to reach heaven.
You are the best at explaining every little detail. I am sure that is why you and Ren have become so close. I am 67 and can usually pick up on most, but you are in Ren's head. Thank you ❤
Watched Ren watching you watching him, and now back to make sure you get the view too. So good, I love that he is still so excited to see what you think of a track. Like the rest of us!
Watched your reaction with Ren on Twitch. Came to give you a like for your awesome breakdown. Ren called you out for missing " A million degrees graduate semester". Bars, you didn't catch them all. He said he is now writing to mess with you specifically to see if he can trip you up! 🙃🤣😂Great job! He missed that you missed Jekyll/Hyde. He was happy that you got the LOTR sword.
My thought as well when the Ren in white was deleted and the other 6 fell. As if removing greed would make the other six sins insignificant ie envy/gluttony/wrath/etc would all lose their teeth because greed is at the heart of them all.
Came to comment that I went straight from Ren to Knox, and found all the other comments saying the same 😂😂 Big love to this community who help me feel again. Authentic humanity, that's the fuel for the rebellion ✊️
@@justme1111 Yeah I was more referring the time that goes into editing a vid for YT upload, but if he was sent the track before hand to prepare that makes sense
The beat is dope, all the production is amazing, kit’s voice is lovely. Ren is incredible ❤️Knox I love your breakdowns! Anything I missed I know you catch! ❤
Rewatched this with Ren and 1000 other people on his twitch stream last night!! He said that he likes to see if he can catch you out on missing bars etc 🤣🤣
Love that Ren has introduced me to so many reactors, that I watch to learn and explain so well the music Ren and his crew creates, always a journey. But yeah Knox Hill is first...Peace
The death motif is even wider I feel - almost every critique Ren has of the modern society he also points out in himself. The death and destruction he warns us about is also the death and rot he recognbizes in himself. I feel it might be connected to the intense selfreflection he was almost made to go through by his sickness. This creates a very unique 'humble judgement' that is hard to find anywhere else.
For me, the sword of Damocles is chronic illness, the story where King Dionysius is living life with riches & power, but he's always in fear of losing it. Then Damocles tells the king how great his life is & the king tells him if you think it's so great why don't you try it. He has damocles sitting on a golden sofa, women feeding him the best food & wine, but just as he begins enjoy it he looks up where the King has hung a sword over his head by a single strand of horsehair & he spends the whole time glancing up at it. When you have a chronic illness & you seem to be doing OK you're constantly in fear of being knocked back into the darker, more difficult place of your illness. I've spent 25yrs of my life like it. You're either inside (protected) watching life go by or you live life for a bit wondering if or when that thread will break. ❤💔
It's been awhile since I could watch you, Knox. I've missed you. Your analysis is so thorough. You are built to translate Ren. Like brothers. Thank you.
I see what you mean but as a filmmaker I can tell you nothing beats the video Tales of Jenny and Screech. The Tales are filmmaking masterpiece with almost no budget. Even the awarded Money Game 3 does not come close, not even Hi Ren.
At one point in the reaction you said shout out to Dexters Lab, its not Dexters lab, the entire theme of this video are actually different seasons of Dexter, from HBO there’s clear reference to Seasons 1, 5, 6, 7 and the final episode where his son shoots him. the plastic sheets were used by Dexter as he murdered people who were villains who got away with serial un-a-livers. The crown and the beheading was also 1 season of Dexter with Edward James Omos and it was a biblical / mythical influenced season. He used those same knives and the table tie downs with the straps across the forehead was used several times on his victims. And the Darkness of himself constantly battling his desire to “be normal” and fit in and be a part of society. I have to say though, I LOVE the way you breakdown video’s and lyrics and how you help understand the different styles he uses in his raps and songs. I enjoy your channel very much. Thank you for taking the time to do these video breakdowns!
I don't know what I was expecting from this song but my god that was so so intense and brilliant. As brilliant as your reaction and breakdown! From a greek mythology nerd to another, I'm so happy you got all those references because I was SO excited about them when I heard the song (I always listen to the song first and then wait for your reaction) Hope you are doing okay and take care of your voice!!!
Watched Ren watch you, now watching this myself. Because I gotta give this channel some love❤ Big ups, Knox, love your breakdowns. BTW, you dissed tea to a Welshman who lives in England? Braaaavvveee of you. 😂😂
Always love watching your Ren reactions; out of everyone you're definitely the best at lyrically breaking down his songs, catching the smallest double meanings and references. Quite impressive, but very entertaining & interesting to watch!
That sword of Damocles line is deep knowing Rens work, I've heard it used like "the sword of Damocles hangs over my head". Which means they feel something horrible will happen to them soon. Not to mention the moral of the sword is realizing that those lives you envy that are filled with wealth and fame is actually filled with anxiety, terror, and death.
I'm pretty sure he says "severed wing" not "seven wings". Severed wing also makes more sense when you talk about the fallen angels, heaven did send them when they were cast out, were their wings cut?
Awesome breakdown as always 🙌🙌 FYI Nephilim were actually the violent hybrid sons who were the children of materialized angels and the daughters of men before the Flood, sons of those angels that came to earth due to their desire to have relations with women. They are described as the “mighty ones of old time, the men of fame” (or probably more accurately the men of infamy).
Watched your reaction with Ren in twitch. He said he writes his lyrics with you in mind. To see if you’ll catch them. No pressure haha. Apparently one got by you
This song is so dense musically and lyrically.... it's like Ren has condensed a 20-minute prog rock track into 3 and half minutes. Every 15 seconds feels like it could be a different song. Fkn love it... played it 20 times already today. Mindblowingly profound.

Thanks Knox, love your analyses , they always help me understand and because i dont know how to put things into words. Great reaction and analysis Knox. Amazing new song and video from Ren ❤
Great analysis! I always love how you are able to breakdown the complicated rhyme patterns so efficiently. One small correction: The Sword of Damocles is a story where a regular person is given the chance to take the place of King Damocles for a day. Damocles suspends a sword above the throne using a single horse hair to convey the idea of needing to constantly be on the lookout for danger.
I just stumbled upon this blurb about 'Slaughter House' when I was looking for other information about Ren's song that I thought was interesting enough to share.... "The One" is the debut single by Slaughterhouse, a hip hop supergroup consisting of rappers Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5'9". It was released on July 2, 2009 and was produced by DJ Khalil. The song is from the group's self-titled debut album" .. So 'Slaughterhouse' was a super group of rappers! I didn't know that. 0:53
Something I heard as a child and I tell my own, "It's both fortunate and unfortunate that we learn through pain." Usually only from our own than that of others.
the sword of Damocles = the cost of power. Ren can get what he wants, fame for his music, but it comes at the price of his health... at least that's how I heard that. The relationship between his pain and his fame. He referenced something similar in one of his previous songs, 'want to be me, the grass isn't always gree-ner' and this is the essence of the story of the sword of Damocles. You want to be famous, you want to be a musical genius? Well it comes at the cost of pain. Without his pain, he wouldn't be where he is today.
You’re literally the first place I go after REN drops anything new! I love your content and breakdowns like no other! Hope you feel better and have a great weekend! Thank you!

This beat gives me a lot of Massive Attack vibes and I love it so much.
Something I heard as a child and I tell my own, "It's both fortunate and unfortunate that we learn through pain." Usually only from our own than that of others.
Your analysis has the most depth out of all reactors....always
the sword of Damocles = the cost of power.
Thank you!
Had to watch your reaction after the premiere for a good breakdown. Love the opening with Fentanyl. Smiles abound today for many and hope Ren is feeling all the awe and love. Peace and love
