Making those brake-lines & brackets...... very sorry, but F*** that! My patience-levels could never cope. My hat is off to you sir. The patience of Job!
You're really doing a crackin' job on this model. Thanks for sharing your great tips and materials. I hear your pain with Bare Metal Foil. That product doesn't stick well even new. After a few years in a drawer it won't stick at all. Fortunately, the same folks that make your decal softener make a product called Micro Metal Foil Adhesive. It's the consistency of milk. You brush it onto the foil piece after cutting and let it dry clear. The foil sticks 3X better and won't peel up over time. Makes a great "tiny part picker upper" on the tip of a toothpick too.
@@georginaofarrell9254 For a small patch sure. The trouble with the Bare Metal Foil is getting it to initially stick to the part so you can burnish it down.
One word; fantastic! When I built models as a teenager I was always glad to finally put the landing gear in place and set it on its' wheels. If the kit came with the option to have the canopy open that was always my choice. If I knew then what I have learned from watching you and other modelers the quality of my kits would have improved tremendously. Looking forward to the final part.
Thank you I usually open canopies as well particularly on WW2 subjects but I think a lot of jets loose their lines with open canopies. The F35 looks particularly odd with its forward opening canopy I think.
Absolutely beautiful work! I prefer the overall grey/low contrast RCS on the 1:1, but I can see why you went with the early, high contrast RCS on your build.
A great series of videos. I have this model to build. May I ask where you got the image from re the pipes and/or wiring on the undercarriage, as I haven’t been able to source much good information at all. Thanks👍
I did a google search mark the main one I used is commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:U.S._Marine_Corps_F-35B_Lightning_II%28169164%29_of_VMFA-121_right_main_landing_gear_right_rear_view_at_MCAS_Iwakuni_May_5,_2018.jpg
Hello, superb your assembly, what do you use as wires to make the pipes, I also ride this F35 Tamiya and I would like to take an example from your assembly, do you have a link where you make this wire yourself, thank you
Hi Steve, just wondering if you found one company's paint better than others for brush painting details. Some have said Citadel, others Vallejo, and I was hoping to get your opinion if you would. Thank you.
Hi Bob Citadel are my go to for detail painting. in fact I bought some just last week for some switches in my upcoming Phantom build over on Patreon. The base ranges are the best for colour density but the layers are almost as good. Tamiya acrylics also brush paint ok with Tamiya lacquer thinners - preferably the retarder type. hope that helps.
@@TheModelShed thank you Steve…I really appreciate you’re time and expertise. I have learned so much from you on this Tamiya F-35A build. I have poised to build the 35B and I’m hoping you might do a series on that as well. All my best!
A friend at my model club has built two of the As and is now doing a B. The kit is quite different to this one so I might do one one day but not for the foreseeable future - there’s a long queue in the shed 😬😬
A few reasons Paul. Mainly because I don’t like to handle painted parts whilst I’m assembling painted parts to avoid marking them. At this stage of the build I’m also backwards and forwards to the spray booth so being right handed I hold the part with my left and the glove stops me getting too much overspray on my fingers.
excellent work on undercarriage and pipping
Thanks Mick 👍

It’s been said before don’t worry. I like that stuff so it’s not a chore.
WOW!!!! What a beauty this F-35 turned out to be!!!! AMAZING work!!!!!
Thank you 👍
awesome build & painting.
The closeups show how the finicky work of masking the RAM panels has paid off. The super detailing of the gear was a joy to watch. Well done.
Thank you John 👍
IMO its the littlest of details that really set apart great models and you nailed it Steve! Absolutely brilliant work!
Cheers Bryan
Great how to Steve, the added detail of the hydraulic lines is a nice touch, this kit is on my want list.
It’s a great build John but the painting is something else - be prepared for a lot of work.
@@TheModelShed Mine arrived yesterday, it's smaller than it looks on the screen...
good work its looking good keep them coming
Thank you 👍
Beautiful detail work Steve. I was just trying to think of a way to make wire harnesses for my Bismarck, got my answer.
Transferrable techniques- love that 👍
Beautiful job. What a pleasure to watch
Thank you Jerry I appreciated that 👍

I haven't used the foil myself, but I wonder if after it's application it can be sealed in place with a coat of future?

Never heard of that I’ll look it up for future reference 👍
Beautiful work! Your paint work is superb and smooth!
Thank you 👍
Yet another master class, really enjoy watching your videos, learning a lot, thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Pete you’re welcome
You've got very steady hands and a ton of patience Steve and it certainly pays dividends! Looking fantastic.
Thanks very much Phil I appreciate it 👍

I use 0.3mm copper wire - the sort I used here was from an automotive model supplier but any sort will do.

Have you given up on the Bismarck?
No - I’ll be working on the bridge next week .
Premium Hobbies won't ship to the U.S. Does anyone have a U.S. source for the circle masks used for masking wheel hubs?
