Hi Steve, you are puting stunning detail into the painting of this kit. I am only an amature modeler, but, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD do not use Tamiya decals, use Cartograf if they have them or store the model until they do. I live my life vicariously through other modelers on RUclips and have witnessed their tears when they have used Tamiya decals. Great content by the way!
That sir has turned out perfectly, I thought you done a superb job on that under gear bay, with the painting and detail painting, looking forward to the next episode, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
I am building mine that I recieved at Christmas at the same time and following your lead and inputs. And like you, I am amaze by the quality of the kit. Great work my friend.
Another superb video Steve. Your skill & patience to paint all those pipes in the weapons bay really shines through. Tamiya have gone to town with this model, the satisfying click when those parts come together! Look forward to seeing your progress in the next video
Cheers Alan it’s a lovely kit. started the decals on the 109 today so approaching the finish line. Thanks for your pics you’ve got a great result with it. 👍
Warm water - not hot John - just so you can comfortably hold your hand under it. It does make a difference the decal releases from the sheet faster and the warmth can help relax the decal and start to help it conform.
Thank you so much...even though they are pricy, I am going to get them based on your recommendation...They have a 4 brush set (0,1,2,3) for $130. Will that do it or should I look for a set that includes smaller brushes? Thank you for all your help! @@TheModelShed
Outstanding work-as always-Steve. It's nice to see a "realistic" amount of weathering & detail. All the other builds use enough panel wash and weathering grime to suggest that these a/c have spent the last 30 years on the Russian Front being maintained in truck garages in Lahore . . . .
Hi Steve missed you at the club on Saturday, outstanding work Steve. Are you going to the club next Saturday and or are you going to Bolton, by the way this Tony.
Hi Tony Great to hear from you on the channel. I had a cold all last week so I thought I’d better not share it with you guys. I’m better now so I’ll get to the club meet but I think Bolton is out at the moment.
Love it man! Lord love you for making videos while you’re sick! Can you explain your strategy/paradigm for when you use contacta and extra thin? Thanks!
Hi Buckner. I use extra thin in ‘dry’ joins where the parts are brought together and the glue can be run into the joint using capillary action. I use contacta on ‘open’ joins where I need the glue to stay wet until the parts are brought together like when the fuselage halves are brought together. Extra thin would just evaporate by the time I got around the fuselage/wings.
I agree with the engineering of Tamiya's kits it is superb. Do you usually use a 50/50 mix for your paints? Also what air pressure do you use. One thing I did notice is you didn't add any nose weight, did Tamiya make the kit so none is required, if so that is a first that I know of. Looking forward to the next episode.
Generally I’d use a 50/50 mix but here I went for a weaker mix on the white over black so I could build the colour up gradually. For general work the compressor is set around 12-15 PSI. Other situations call for different settings such as on the Bf109 mottle but usually I’d describe this in the narration.
It's funny really , every Country that has these jets goes out of their way to make sure it never fulls into enemy hands, but The Japanese build a beautiful scale model of it in every detail and lets eveyone know practically what every part of it is and does.
I suspect it's what's inside all those electronics boxes that needs to be kept under wraps Richard . Whatever - you're right it's a beautiful model and is going together nicely so far.
The f-35s workings are top secret. One can't get near or photograph the plane up close. How accurate can the model be compared to the real thing if this is so. Just wondering.
Dunno, every kit make seems to have a "defining" flaw. Tamiya's is their decals; Dragon in never making one thing but making it a sub-assembly of 5 or 6 (and then, being the wrong version; Airfix has fit issues; or, Italeri, where everything under the box art is problematic 🙂 . . .
And, I remain scandalized that neither Navy nor Marine F-35 have red edges on the gear & bay doors--to keep people on flight decks from careening into them in the twilight.
That is satisfying to see that someone else pockets a load of coffee stirrers when they go to Maccy D's! Good luck Steve
😂😂😂😬😬😬 actually I’m far too law abiding Dave - Mrs Shed ‘obtains’ them for me

Don’t worry Davis I’ve got some cartograph printed replacements on the way. I won’t risk the Tamiya decals on an £80 kit
Great job and thanks for letting us look over your shoulder.I wish you a speedy recovery, runny nose!
Thank you Detlev I’m better now 🙏
Wow nice steady hand! great work with the brush Steve.
Cheers Jeff 👍
excellent work on the weapons bay
Thanks Mick

Thank you for this great series on this F-35!
The detail painting really brings the model to life, great work as usual 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks very much Pete👍
Great progress on this build Steve, she’s coming together nicely.
Thanks Phillip
Great video, i'm loving the series. The detail and excellent fit of the Tamiya kits is a pure joy, can't wait for part 3.
Working on it next week David - should be an update next weekend I hope.
As always, great job Steve, I love a good fitting kit.
Thanks John it certainly is well engineered
@@TheModelShed Will be buying the kit when it comes into stock in Australia.
great to watch steve 🙂
Thanks Andy 🙏
This is turning out great so far. Great job on it! I can't wait to give this kit a try myself. Subscribed!
Welcome to the channel 👍👋👋
Hey Steve, when you wet your decals, do you use hot or cold water, does either one make a difference...thanks, great videos.

Great job...like all the rest...thanks...I was wondering which company's sable paint brushes do you use? Thanks
They’re Windsor and Newton series 7 Bob. Best I’ve ever used - expensive but worth it

Just received my kit as a early birthday pressie from the wife.
hope you enjoy it Mark it’s a lovely kit.

Nice work!
The title of this video is incorrect. But I think we will manage the thumbnail is clear enough. Title edited 👍. Stunning build.
Fixed now Eeltje Jan 👍
this threw me when you released it, it said the HOOD part 2 lol
Yes I missed that to start with 😬😬

Great video as always.
You feeling any better ?
Yes I am feeling better thanks Jerry - not bad enough to keep me out of the shed 😃😃😃
What ratio and thinner did you use on the Gunze Mr. White base? Suburb build by the way
Approx 60/40 thinner/paint Craig - I’m guessing but it’s round about that
@@TheModelShed thank you sir

@@TheModelShed Thank you.
re: his other question, I'm also super interested: did you add nose weight off cam or did the kit not require it? I'm about to crack into mine

What was the clamp called? Closed captioning wrote it as « burner clamp »?
It’s a Berna clamp Paul. I think they’re made in France
@@TheModelShed Thanks!
