Hello guys! The masks you saw there Steve were used also in very dark and dangerous times. In 1241 a huge invasion of Mongols destroyed every single medieval state built in what is now Russia and Ukraine, crushed every single Polish fortress and finally arrived in our lands. The history did not retained the name of the individual who asked his fellows to were these masks along with as many bells possible. When the Mongols appeared with their army composed only by horse riders, Romanians came in front of them wearing this "equipment". Mongols were scared of the ghosts of the woods. More than that, their horses became impossible to be controlled and ran in all directions, making useless any war plan. Without throwing a single arrow, the battle was won. Masks like these ones can be found in Maramures county also. Those are bigger and scarier and have a different spiritual role. They are used to scare bad spirits to enter in our world wearing the role of guardians, sort of spiritual sanitizers. I don't know if you guys realized until now but Romanians welcome every single individual who shows heart and spirit. And it is not a façade. It is something deep, common to all the people who lived in this world, in the same places, for a long time. This is the key of our surviving on these lands after all kind of catastrophic invasions from all the cardinal points. Facing kindness, some the invaders finished by finding a place in this old society and becoming Romanians themselves while adding a part of their individuality to the nation. There were other conquerors who did not fall in this "trap" and they left their bones in our soil because my people know how to defend themselves.

Anyway, I'm sure that Tochitura was more delicious than Mici with rice🤣🤣 🤣.. Mici are only eaten with mustard and bread😁💪💪👍👍. I hope you continue to enjoy the wonderful places of Romania! Congratulations for visiting The Popa Museum, it is unfairly unknown even by Romanians. I recommend you to visit two very beautiful monasteries in Neamt, Varatec and Agapia. The first is picturesque and medieval, while the second is famous for the interior painting of the church, which was done by Nicolae Grigorescu in 1858, when he was 20 years old!!

Great content! For your health, I suggest you try some lighter fare at some point, maybe take a break from all the pork and grilled meat or fried meat. Try any dish with quinces ("gutui"), it's that time of the year. These are very delicious and traditional, you can see the huge yellow fruits in gardens around the country. A typical dish involves chicken and quinces. Or try meat with plums. Or the various herb- or vegetable-centric dishes (which may have meat, but not in such quantities to overpower the plant flavor), such as "mâncare de..." Celery ("țelină"), parsley ("pătrunjel"), dill ("mărar"), etc. Last but not least, check out any trout fishery ("păstrăvărie") for fish dishes and fresh trout. Happy travels, you guys are awesome!

Then, the next day, hike to cabana Dochia. You can spend the night there, or go up and down in the same day.

I am so happy you came to Piatra-Neamt, the place where I was borned, raised and still living! Piatra-Neamt is more about the landscapes around the city than things to see in city apart from the City Centre. You could have gone to Batca Doamnei, a hill not far away to see the ruins of ancient Petrodava, or at the small dam. Fantastic sunsets! Or on the top of Pietricica, the small mountain in the middle of the city, there is a road, also a nice view up here. It is beautiful city but unfortunately it has no prospects for development. Piatra-Neamt is a city nestled between the mountains, the streets are pretty much like 50 years ago so it very crowded at some times. There is not much industry also. Next year I will go to College in Iasi probably, to continue my studies (I want Computer Science) and I don`t really plan to come back here afterwards.

Romanian has gendered nouns, so "doi" is the counter for masculine nouns and "doua" for feminine. Same goes for Unu/Una. They're the same from 3 and upwards though, so you only need to know those two.

      Romanian crash course:
      Difference between doi/două:
"Doi" is only used for masculine nouns while "două" is used for both feminine and neuter nouns.
So you say doi copaci/two trees (masc.), but două maşini/two cars (fem.) and două tablouri/two paintings (neuter)

    • @DeeDee80
      @DeeDee80 2 года назад +3

To be more exact, you use "un/unul" and "doi" for masculine, "una" and "doua" for feminine and "un/unul" and "doua" for neutral. Neutral is like masculine for singular and like feminine for plural.

I just found your channel just the other day. What a joy to see you guys embrace so many things about my culture and country, to the point where you shared Romanian cuisine to people abroad!
I was already feeling very excited to see you guys in Cluj Napoca, the city I spent a few years in during my university studies, and which is still very dear to me. But imagine my eyes bugging out as I see the thumbnail for this video, with a very familiar looking cable car.... and the title showing that you visited my hometown! Amazing. I'm not in Romania at the moment, but if you ever go back in the region, it'd be awesome to cross paths so I can show you around, both around my hometown and in Cluj. Think you'd be up for hiking up a mountain? There are some amazing views, both on the way to, on the way up, and on top of Ceahlau mountain, which is an hour and a half away from Piatra Neamt. There are various routes to the top, some of which are beginner-friendly, and plenty of experienced hikers (including my dad) who could help.

Just a helpful comment, anytime u see the word Tocat or toca on a menu it means meat that has been chopped into stir fry like chunks. In this case it was tocature or sometimes you’ll see toconita. Hope that helps

First time comment. First of all absolutely amazing footage. You show Romania in completely different light. As for Ivana it's called color blindness. Some people view colors differently. A quick test at the eye doctor for it and they can recommend if needed special glasses which enhance some colors so people who have color blindness can see colors as they're.
I only know this because I've noticed this with my sister. She was seeing dark blue as green.
And for a long time I thought she's messing with me or trying to see what I say, but nope she really couldn't see dark blue as dark blue. To her it was just a different shade of green.
That's mainly why I commented. I prefer to relax and enjoy the content.

A big no for mici with anything other than mustard and/or fries. Nothing wrong with trying different combinations tho. Love your content. Have a lovely day

I really doubt anyone in Romania has combined mici with anything else except mustard or french fries. So we wouldn't know. The only variation we know is pan fried or coal grill. But hey, you do you :))
By the way, that "tochitura" was the "safe" version. The traditional one will give you a heart attack - cheese, greese, pickles and fatty pork, topped with egg, usually served in a jumbo sized portion. Still tastes great, though
