Those Kaijus were specifically designed to take those 2 out including Striker Eureka, as you can see those 3 Jaegers seem to have been the most active at that time. Otachi had the extra limb (tail) to deal with Crimson, Acid for Cherno, Leatherback had the electric pulse attack to disable any electronic jaegers which was Eureka and the strength to take on Cherno as well, he was strong, of course they weren't counting on Gypsy showing up.

Let us not forget that the two Kaiju were specifically designed to deal with any combination of Cherno, Typhoon, and Striker and the Kaiju wall. Leatherbacks EMP could knock out the mark 4 and 5 Jaegers. Otachi had three limbs to fight Crimson Typhoon's thundercloud formation and acid to defeat Cherno Alpha's armour and could fly nullifying the wall had it been in her way. Leatherback was equipped to solo fight Cherno since it could render the more advanced Jaegers inoperable. Finally they knew exactly where the pilots in all the Jaegers were. One of the reasons Cherno survived for so long was because it's head was hidden and Kaiju incorrectly attacked the lights at the top of its reactor. Leatherback goes straight for the command pod in its chest. Otachi's tale is a custom made head crushing weapon designed to swiftly render Jaegers inoperable by killing the pilots.
The reason sommany Jaegers are destroyed so quickly after winning the early battles all starts when knifehead attacked gypsy at the begining of the film. In that battle Knifehead damages the head of gypsy and gypsy is crippled. The Kaiju learnt then that the head is a weak point. That's why all the scenes of destroyed Jaegers show specifically the heads being damaged. The Kaiju knew how to defeat them. That disadvantage coupled with the increasing size and power of the Kaiju quickly spelt disaster for the Jaeger Program. This is why only Striker, Cherno and Typhoon were left. They all had a gimmick that meant the head was harder to reach. Striker was just too fast and too advanced for the cat' 3 and 4 Kaiju, Typhoon had an extra pilot and an extra arm making it harder to overpower. Cherno, as previously said had its head in a different place so the Kaiju kept attacking the wrong part of the Jaeger. It's not until Newt drifts with the Kaiju that the weakness of those Jaegers become known to the Kaiju and the second they are all three are taken out. It's the reason why Gypsy Danger does so well, she wasn't supposed to be there so the Kaiju weren't prepared to handle her, that coupled with her new weapons and her upgrades meant that she was able to match the Kaiju in power and her extremely unpredictable but highly skilled and adaptive pilots made her more than a match for the two Kaiju.

True but remember as gibsy was damaged by knife head the one remaining pilot managed to shot knife head with its spear plasma cannon i don't know if knife head was killed or not but that one pilot still managed to fire the plasma cannon even though it was difficult and In the second movie advanced yeagers were being built there was one with this electric whip a mark 5 Yeager I think that could grab huge objects with this plasma beam and has the plasma cannon along with an atm chainsaw there was obisidian fury which was that black rogue Yeager that was being controlled by another of those kaiju brains which had 2 of those arm chain saws a beam lazer and missle launchers so as they were losing yeagers because of the week spot that the kaiju learned about in the first movie more advanced yeagers were being built with better weapons and better technology to counter the kaiju that was growing more powerfull and also leatherback which has the emp and otachi were considered one of the most powerfull/deadly kaijus as leather back had an emp along with strength due to its size and otachi with spraying acid it's tail and the ability to fly so these wernt just ordinary kaijus that alpha and typhoon were facing even though striker was knocked out I do consider that yeager and gibsy danger to be much better yeagers to deal with these 2 kaijus as they were more advanced yeagers that were faster at attacking and evading and had better weapons and techonology that would be more effective than alphas fists and typhoons sawblades

Yeah, Cherno Alpha was kick-ass, probably my fav jaeger. I was pretty disappointed that BOTH of them were killed that quickly, yet Gypsy Danger took them down so quick suffering nearly no damage, considering the fact that Typhoon's and Cherno's pilots were veterans while Mako was a newbie and Raleigh hadn't piloted in so long.
Cherno only died because of the Acid that hit it's reactor. It couldn't fight properly, and was overpowered. Gypsy only had to fight them one at a time, and Raleigh was still a veteran pilot, and Mako was highly trained. The fact that they were drifting meams she has all the experiemce that he does. Otachi and Leatherback would have been fucked in a 1v1 or 2v1 situation if they had allowed it to happen.
I hope they at least reference CHERNO in the new movie
Mako and Raleigh are pretty good, the former being a 100% success in her sims, knows Gipsy Danger more than anyone else (due to her being the chief of the Mark 3 Restoration Project), the latter known to be unpredictable and pretty strong on his own (he kicked Herc's son's ass quite hard, and who the hell would think of using a freighter as a baseball bat in the first place to deal with the tail of the monster)? Not to mention the deaths of the two Jaegers provided valuable combat information for them to deal with.

Meh, the death of both Eastern Jaegers ruined half of the movie IMO. Del Toro should have given them more screentime, but they both passed away after less than 10 minutes of active service in the movie. After the trailer for Pacific Rim 2, I'm confident that all 4 Jaegers will survive til the middle of the movie, instead of being Kaiju bait.
They should have used the prologue to show them fighting in flashbacks at least, say cherno slams a Kaiju into a building, Kaiju tries to lunge back and Cherno toasts it with the turbines, and then have Crimson absolutely shredding a kaiju to pieces with thundercloud formation so we at least knew WHY they were the 'accomplished' pilots that they were supposed to be

if they did survived they would fight leather back and he would use his emp attack and disable striker and mabey typhoon but not Cherno because he's mostly nuclear powerd like gypsy danger.
EMP fried all eletronics...so Cherno Alpha too...Gypsy danger was able to fight, just because he was turn off, while blast of EMP, so if all four Jaegars would fight in this battle....all four could be destroyer...remember crew of Gypsy knew about acid attack only because, that Kaiju used that on Cherno...I know everyone love both Jaegar, and wanted to see them more and fight more, but that is stupid logic. Every next Kaiju came bigger, stroger and smarter...

Cherno Alpha is a Mark 4 Jaeger (somehow) in the novels, so it is also using digital-based operating systems in its run. But yeah in the move it's also likely to be analog (unless it was updated and/or Gipsy's just different on the whole).
周生生 actually you are wrong Cherno Alpha is the last surviving Mark 1 Jaeger built in late 2015, though I think the novels are not canon though
They most likely updated Cherno with Mk. 4 tech, makes sense to not leave such a powerful Jaeger in the dust technologically
I think that they should’ve made Cherno Alpha stay back with the bomb, because as soon as Crimson would begin to struggle with Otachi, Stricker Eureka would be fast enough to come to his aid.

I think the big reason wasn't because they weren't smart, but more along the lines that the creators of the Kaijus kept upgrading them to better defeat the current active jaegers, Notice how leatherback as soon as he see's Eureka pulling his arms back and opening his chest missiles he quickly lets out the electric pulse that disables it, Same thing in the beginning, Knifehead was designed to defeat Gypsy and kinda Succeeded. Which in all leads me to believe it's the reason that the kaiju kept getting bigger and stronger.
Mad Max well yeah you're right. But they could've also fought smarter. For example, when Otachi grabbed Crimson's head with her tail they could've used their saw to cut off her tail instead of freaking out. Same with the Knifehead situation, everything would've been different if Raleigh hadn't tried to use the plasma weapon at the wrong time. But he fought smarter when he burned a hole through Slattern.
they were getting more and more careless and from what the movie tells us the pilots were like Rockstars, I can see them as arrogant, specially having had a few Kaiju kills under their belt.

It makes sense for the story. I would have love to see all four Jaegars in the final fight but that wouldn't have made the movie feel that much desperate. When they introduced Cherno and Crimson they where the super stars of the world at the moment; the last defense, the greatest Jaegar pilots. That made their quick deaths that much more devastating. In the grand scheme of the movie it made perfect sense but as viewers it was super disappointing. I agree with another commenter that perhaps they should have had flashbacks showing how amazing these Jaegars were but I think I would have like to see maybe more battles with the 2 Jaegars. Perhaps 2 Kaiju appeared right when Releigh Becket arrived at the Shatterdome and Cherno and Crimson was deployed and dispatched them quickly. This could have shown that these 2 were competent and skilled instead of just telling us.

I wanted more screen time with both of them, with Cherno using its incinerator turbines & Typhoon using its plasma caster & remaining saw blade(s). Typhoon would've likely survived if they were more careful but Cherno is like target practice for the Kaijus. But if indeed they both survive, their construction doesn't look like they can withstand the deep ocean presure of the final push towards the breach.

the thing is that both of the jeagers didn't get fully destroyed. You can clearly see that otachi only ripped Chrimson typhoons *head* off and that leatherback too, crushed only the head of cherno alpha.
Only problem is the pilots are dead and not everyone can drift as well as those pilots did.

Chernos was damaged beyond repair, its reactor had been crushed and had exploded, and its entire top tower things had been melted away, crimson typhoon however, was still in good enough condition to. E repaired, all they had to do was build another head and repair the hands
Remember they are already having severe economic crisis so badly they need food rationing, and cannot fund so much for the Jaeger Program (or else the Wall of Life wouldn't be considered) and be reminded repairing work is actually expensive and possibly tedious.
Crimson Typhoon is mention to be un-pilotable by everyone other than the Wei brothers because of their very deep link with the Jaeger (in the novels), so even they did repair it no one can actually control the Jaeger, and Cherno Alpha is just.....totally wrecked (i mean the cockpit, the head and the arms are crushed...). Not to mention that they are so soaked in goddamned sea water and we all know how harmful sea water is to metal, let alone those electronics that absolutely hated water.
They also would have had to find a triplet drift however, which is probably impossible. That or modify Crimson heavily
Typhoon and Cherno had varoius options to take out Otachi, and then later Leatherback... When Otachi jumped out form the water and attacked Crimson Typhoon, Cherno Alpha insted of trying to reach the other jaeger could have smashed his electric fists in the water hyper amplyfing the electric currents and kill the Kaiju with an extreamly powerful Electroshock, then for Leatherback Cherno could have used the Incinerator Turbines to put some distance between him and the Kaiju allowing Typhoon and Striker to launch a coordinated bombardament consequentially killing the Kaiju with a big explosion (way 1).
The second way could havd been this: Otachi attacks Typhoon then Cherno comes from the rear of the Kaiju and like a bully immobilize the Kaiju arms allowing Typhoon to slash open the Kaiju from top to bottom; for Leatherback Typhoon could use his high speed and flexibility to evade the close range Kaiju attacks and then retaliate, thus giving time to Cherno wich is very slow to reach the Kaiju and stun it so that Typhoon could use his IB-22 Plasma Caster, wich require 6.28 second to charge, to blow off the Kaiju hed and kill it.
idk if they should have survived. that scene gave me the realization that thes kaiju are very dangerous. it was so sad to watch but i think it was an important scene. although i think cherno should have had a scene where it takes out a kaiju before this fight.

I found this theory quite intriguing, however there is one problem. In the events of this fight, due to Striker Eureka being incapacitated after the downfall of Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon, Gipsy Danger and it's pilots, Raleigh Becket and Mako Mori, were forced into combat to take out Otachi and Leatherback. Now if you think about it, it was only the emergency of the situation in which Marshal Stacker Pentecost allowed the deployment of Gipsy Danger. Without this situation arising in the event of Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon being knocked out of the fight, the Marshal would have never approved the deployment of Gipsy danger and therefore the Jaeger would have never been deployed to Operation Pitfall.

Also I wrote this at 3am, so I'm very tired and most likely did not structure it very well, and also most likely did not explain things overly well either, so I will also be happy to reply back to your replies and clear things up.

BOTH Cherno and Typhoon engaged Otachi at the same time, KNOWING there was a second kaiju that came from the breach aswell.
nimmivids striker was more than 2 kilometers away.
His job was to protect the coastline.
It was solely up to the pilots to properly plan strategy...they failed and were killed

Cherno Alpha has always been my favourite, but I’d have to say, Cherno and Typhoon weren’t recognized much during the movie, and they’re both such badass jaegers.
But I’d rather see Cherno move on, and no I don’t mean I don’t want Typhoon too move forward either, it just feels like Cherno has more of a chance with its tank-like structure.
Overall, I just think that bucket-headed jaeger AKA Cherno would’ve made many other people happy to see move on.

I think its been said Cherno Alpha was a Mk I or first generation jaeger, built to last but mostly just heavily armored with no room for guns, just beating kaijus with blunt force trauma from its fists. Even if it survived readily it might not even be deep sea worthy, maybe even too slow for underwater combat.

Cause gispy avenger would be they're backup
all of this could’ve been avoided if they just deployed gipsy alongside the other jaegers. it was a dumb decision on pentecost’s half to not deploy them as second backup for striker eureka. if it was carrying something as crucial as a bomb, you’d think that another jaeger would’ve been deployed in case things went south. if gipsy was already there, they could’ve distracted otachi while cherno alpha and crimson took on leatherback. it probably still would’ve used it’s EMP attack, shutting down eureka and typhoon (i think both of them are electric??) leading to cherno and gipsy taking down otachi and leatherback in the end.
i do think that if cherno and crimson went down to the breach in the last battle, one of them would’ve been killed, but not both of them. (unfortunately it would’ve probably been cherno since it doesn’t have any escape pods, but maybe i’ll use the power of plot armor and miraculously let them live)
This was that one scene I kept saying "come on!! You should've sent all jaegers in at once for the best results"!!!. Kind of bugged Me cause in movies, they tend to make dumb decisions for dramatic reasons.
You forgot about Cherno Alphas incinerator turbines that can be used as a close ranged weapons
Crimson is a Mark 4 Jaeger. Does that mean he's Analogue or is it only Cherno and Gipsy? If not we could have seen Cherno slug it out waiting for Gipsy to back it up.
A random concept, but still one I'd like to see, especially since we never really saw the mark 1's in action.
if both jaegers survived i think it wouldnt have made much of a difference in the final battle mostly because it took place underwater that means that cherno would become even slower and its flame turbines would be useless so cherno would propably be killed by raiju or skunner pretty quickly, crimson would be more usefull but i dont think its saws would be able to damage raiju only its very powerfull plasma caster would be usefull there. but thats just my opinion

If they survived I imagine slattern would've destroyed at least one of them during the final battle and then in the next movie the one that wasn't destroyed would get major upgrades and fight during the hybrid attack which would lead to the one that survived to have a possible fight against the mega kaiju which it would either be destroyed by the mega kaiju or one of the hybrid drones during the hangar battle
striker and gipsy would go after slattern and cherno and crimson would go after raiju and scunner
I would’ve loved for them to survive for the final battle, but it was badass watching on Striker and Gipsy taking on the three kaiju
Imagime if they would've rebuilt the 2 jaegers in the new movie, like what they did with Gipsy danger into Gipsy Avenger

Toxic T Hold on... Jaegers dont have eyes, they have Conn-Pods though. You mean to say Cherno Alpha's Incinerator Turbines? Not heat vision. Not to mention that Cherno's Conn-Pod wasn't located in the head area like the others, but was located at the upper chest however.

I would say that’s if Gypsy never fail the drift with Mako and Raleigh then both them would be allow to fight by Typhoon and Cherno side and three of them would defeat Otachi then Leatherback would use the EMP then it’s would only knock out Eureka and Typhoon because both Cherno and Gypsy using Nuclear power then two of them would defeated Leatherback and Newt still have two Kaiju brain to drift with Hermann to knowing how to destroy the bridge then four of the Jaeger would who to the portal bridge and defeat three remaining Kaiju then Eureka and Gypsy would jump win with a carcass of the Kaiju then two them would active the Bomb on a timer and jump on the escape pot shutting down the portal and destroying the Precursor I think that’s the best way if they would want the Portal to stay shut forever two nuclear bomb that’s can make the sea go dry for a couple of second is more then enough to destroy all of the Precursor this is the best ending they could have achieved

Why Jaegers Dont have Escape pods? like little planes that deploy and drops at the back of the jaeger, they should have a system that locks the body of the jaeger and then they have time to escape.

I also was wondering what would've happened but you gotta consider the fact that they both *had* to die. Newton gave the Precursors the weaknesses of CT and CA via Kaiju Brain which also gave them correct instructions to blow up the breach. Without this information, they probably would've all died figuring it out.

I cried when cherno alpha died, i knew very little about her, but i loved her.
It was from a strory telling piont, to make more drama and suspense to engage the watchers to stay until the final fight. The odds would be 4/3 in favor of the jeigers and not what we as the viewer ended up with a 3/2 fight in favor of the kuiju, it's also more dramatic with a cat 5 and to cat 4s vs a mk 3 and a mk 5.

No because in Uprising they had four jaegers fight the three Kaiji at the end, if it really did end up with four jaegers and three kaiji, Uprising would pretty much have the same ending as the first movie
During cherno charge against otachi instead of an elbow she could just hammer fist otachi that would probably be enough to stun it and then crimson could finish it off and then the two could double team leatherback killing him too.

I would like to see them being able to control Kaiju. I mean they can use left Kaiju to help their world. More details were given on what they could do in comic. I would love all four lived and gain more teammates. I could see Newton going to work for Hannibal Chau. In the anime The kaiju took over Australia sadly so where my ideal of them controlling them came from.

In the beginning there is an intro about how unbeatable Cherno Alpha was, something about 5 years. But in screen time, Cherno Alpha got wrecked in a few moves. They can make at least Cherno Alpha jaeger pilot survive in the end but Nooo they did not,both pilots died.
I was hoping Cherno would stun it and then use its heat rays on its shoulders to burn its head and melt it before it recovered, or leave a big gash on it’s neck so when it recovered( crimson typhoon is very fast) crimson typhoon could be over there and sawing his head off with his saw blades. Then of course the fat monkey, leatherback was on its way. If otachi was dead, I was hoping they would kind of do the same thing to leatherback as they did to otachi. Then of course since the last fight was the most important in the film, all 4 Jaegers would be there. I was wondering if coyote tango would be in the final fight with stacker Pentecost and his wife piloting it.
The category 5 would die easily cause the kaijus is out numbered and striker will not die even the commander

I liked CHERNO ALPHA because it reminded me of an ACGUY from MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM mixed with the giant USA robot from WAR OF THE MONSTERS.

I have a stinking suspicion the pilots of crimson survived, in the shot before the last shot inside of the head, we see otachi's tail crush the head a certain amount, then it cuts to inside the head where it shows that no pilots were harmed by the talons of the tail, and then in the NEXT shot, otachi's tail was still crushing the head the same amount as it was before, meaning the pilots ere still alive in that shot. Then the tail pulled the head off of the body and drops it into WATER. I am guessing they survived that fall and escaped the compod.
Actually they died, because if you played the Hong Kong Battle video at 0.25, you could see one of the pilot got stabbed, while the other got crush

I dont think they wouldve been able to kill leatherback because of its emp weapon, gypsy was the only jaeger at the time capable of doing so , the others would've had to destroy the emp before hand which they didnt even know existed until it was used.

Ok there are 2 ways I see this happening 1 they survive till the end of the movie helping fend of the other Kaiju while the breach is destroyed or 2 where they are left standing but unable to fight and undergo repairs for the rest of the film

0:01 well otacid be dead and the mega kaiju won't even exist. Rajin raiju. Hakuja shrikethorn scunner and slattern would probably have died quicker. And also cherno alpha is my second favorite jaeger so I'd be happy to.
More Jaegers = more action = better (might not be as good of a plot though, without casualtees there aren't any stakes)

They might also be dropped on the final mission where the breach had to be closed
