FLYING BULLS DC-6 FLIES THROUGH MACH LOOP AHEAD OF RED BULL HARDLINE 2024 - 4K

- A Douglas DC-6 is rare just to see but to see one fly low through the Mach Loop is an unicorn. A heads up from one of the locals at Llanbedr airfield the night before to say it had landed could only mean one thing, it’s going to fly The Mach Loop. With the Red Bull Hardline down hill mountain biking event taking place in the Mach Loop the odds looked good.
Ive included a link below to the Flying Bulls aerobatic team website which will tell you all you need to know about the team and the aircraft.

Thanks #2. I knew nothing about Hardline before you mentioned it, just spent an awe-struck weekend watching it. Think the -6 crew had the most fun. Much appreciated
@@danapeck5382 they’ve been holding there for ten years or so. By luck it’s in the Mach loop.
Tried to watch the linked video,... gawd, such annoying twats. Only thing worthwhile on that flight is the 'seen it all before' disinterest of the flight stewards. Definitely more interesting footage here Dafydd, keep up the great work!
@@PiDsPagePrototypes awful twats indeed. Well said.
Amazing! Who cares about a few F35s when you have a DC6!!😂
Well said! 😊
So cool seeing that beautiful airframe in that setting! It was gleaming from nose to tail, wingtip to wingtip.
Thanks for watching the video Ian. Appreciate it.
Beautiful and graceful.
Many thanks
Does anyone know what type of trees are growing in the forested areas? That is such a beautiful landscape. Great backdrop for the DC-6.
That’s an awful lot of rivets in close formation there!
I was under the impression that only military vehicles could fly the loop, is there a way for civilians to request it?
Any civilian aircraft can fly through although I would recommend they do it on the weekend
I love the sound of a radial in the morning.
Fun fact: this DC-6 was owned by Yugoslav statemarshal Josip Broz Tito as his personal plane for state visits and VIP guests. Later it was sold to Zimbabwe until Red Bull bought it and restored it in 2000...
Thanks for the info🎓. Bet it could tell some great stories from its years 👍
Thanks!
I believe it was used very little ans pretty much abandoned in Zimbabwe until dietrich mateschitz bought ...apparently it was suposed to have a "revamp" to get to airworthiness , after some time for investigation dietrich said no lets just completly rebuild it bolt by bolt ! having flown in it i can tell you its stunning and looks brand new!
From inside the plane, plus the 2024 Hardline course;

They really did a great job on this DC-6. Best looking example I've ever seen. Even the corporate logos manage to look good and not tasteless.
Wow, I never expected to see a piston engined aircraft fly through the loop. that was stunning.
It was great in the flesh nick, thanks for watching
Was a special event put on for the riders of a mountain biking event not too far away. Red bull hardline.
Plenty video from them of the inside of it also. She's a beaut inside and out
@@BlueKnows yeah, can see the course and finish line in the background.
I've flown through there in a bulldog twice
Love hearing those Pratt & Whitney R-2800s. SWEET!❤🔥🎵🎶 Really low in the ditch! C'mon F-35 weenies, got to go lower! The old Red Bull 6 is making you look like amateurs!
And they claim an F-35 variant will provide close air support. Right
Beautiful Blast From The Past .... I remember DC 6s when they were in service ..... Very Old Memories 😃
I Just Wish I Could Climb Up There To Take Some Pics But I'd Never Make It 😥
Thanks For Sharing Quinny
That 6 looks REALLY slow in comparison with the usual fare!
Beautiful DC-6. I'm old enough to have flown on those with United and American Airlines.
Me too, although if you look at the link to the interior shots, they sure didn't look like that on the inside back in the day! What a beautiful plane!
1:21 great shot with the road gap drop/jump!
Indeed! Red Bull (-Bike) should see this! An outstanding aircraft filled with all Hardline Athletes in front of one of the most outstanding features of the Hardline Downhill Track. Could it get any better?!
Beautiful! My first assignment as a young U.S. Navy sailor was to Fleet Tactical Support Squadron 21 (VR-21) at Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii. Our airfield (now Kalaeloa Airport) was just a couple of miles west of Ewa Beach near the southwest tip of Oahu. We flew C-118's (military designation for the DC-6): noisy and slow, but rugged and fun.
Total envy
Was told by a flight engineer that all that oil streaming down the wing was normal and to tell him if it stopped because then we would be in trouble .
@@sirclarkmarz Ah, the Land Rover of the skies...
Even though jets are cool there is nothing like a propeller driven aircraft from yesteryear. Beautiful! Now if a Lockheed Constellation flew through the Loop I would just go loopy. Once again you put a giant smile on my face.....you are always in the right place at the right time my man! Pleasure watching your work!
Appreciate you kind words Scott
Thanks as always.
Totally agree
Absolutely stunning.. thanks for uploading
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for watching. ✈️👍
Great shutter speed work for the prop blur Dafydd!
Many thanks Steve.
Funny, earlier I watched videos by the Hardline riders onboard this plane and thought "Is Mr. Phillips maybe out there filming it?" 😅
LOL!!! I came over here from your comment on Brayton's video and wondered if it went to his page!!
@@NathanEide It's a small world, isnt it? 😊 On rewatching this video, I missed that he made a snapshot of the plane in front of the friggin road gap at 1:22 ! 🙌
While in the USAF, I maintained a DC-6 for several years. Now, flying overhead, I can recognize the sound of a radial engine. So if we think that was a low pass, let's go for an OV-10!
Total envy, totally agree with the OV-10 comment
Superb. Bet you never thought you would see that !
Thanks Stephen. Not in my widest of dreams. It was great sight!
Ive been on that !! The pilots seriously know how to hustle it around !
its such a beutiful thing inside and out great to see it !
Beautiful. It was circling over Royston earlier on hold for Duxford. Love the sound, very powerful note.
Great what a sound
What a sight that is. As someone who has washed and polished chrome aircraft, my respect goes out to the crew that keeps that DC-6 beautiful. - Thanks Dafydd.
Thanks for watching craig.
Respect for your work keeping them shiny 😎
Went over my house the coast (sea)end of the loop and headed over Shell island i had the bins on it looked awesome
Certainly on the second pass the DC-6 was pretty low, brilliant, shame it was all spoiled with those noisy American jet things😊 super footage as always Dafydd.
The pilots flew it really well Charles.
Thanks as always 👍
I thought I’d heard something different like a big prop plane before. Was over Porthmadog way. Superb capture fella!!
Many thanks Paul. 👍
@@DafyddPhillips is it still at llanbedr airfield? I’m around Cadair later so wondered if I might see it
@@pauljones401 sorry for my slow reply, it is displaying at midlands air festival this weekend and I believe night stopping in Cardiff airport.
@@DafyddPhillips I was there today at Castell y Bere just hoping it might show….!!!!!! But you film wonders and please don’t apologise your channel is a real treasure. Alll the very best Paul
That was brilliant !!!DC6 looked to be doing it lower than the F35's :)
How cool is that???
Don't drink Red Bull......but I surely appreciate EVERYTHING they do for all things motosports! 😁
F-35s upstaged by a DC-6 built in 1958. A real beauty
Stunning is right! What a beautiful aircraft. Well done Red Bull. Thank you very much and keep up the great work.
Simply sublime shooting! Awesome Dafydd!
Many thanks Todd
What a treat to see an old work horse at Match Loop. Thank you for sharing 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you!
what a catch! nice one Daf !
Many thanks Hugh. Catch up September.
Hi buddy, absolutely fantastic. What a gem of an aircraft. Cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Glad you enjoyed it Gary.
Many thanks !!
Nice Catches at Mach Loop
Many thanks for watching
DC-6: "Here it comes it's still coming it's almost here it's here and there it goes it'll be gone eventually and it's finally gone."
Jet: "Here it comes there it goes it's gone!" 😁
That's one smart looking old bird! Really went down low on the 2nd pass! My wifey could learn a thing or 2 from these "bulls" folks 🤪
Must keep their canyon flying skills up. 😂
Indeed! ✈️✈️✈️🎓👍
Hope they send their Corsair threough too that would be epic
That’s work be cool! ✈️✈️👍
With the way Boeing has been acting lately it's no wonder people prefer to fly machines built in the 50's
Man I bet that pilot was having some fun.
I’d say so. 👍
He managed to make a few passengers sick so he most definitely had fun
@@BlueKnows 😂😂😂
*Spectacular*
Happy you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching.
It would be cool to have a couple of A1-E Skyraider flying along side the DC-6 !!
Wow this is extraordinary awesome, well done Dafydd 👍
Thanks for watching
Glorious.
I was there, so awsome 🤩
Great catch D P, love the sound of those old round motors !
Many thanks Jeff. It sounded awesome in the flesh.
It would be nice to see an old P51 or P38 flying though that.
Quite some sight that the sound of her engines is just beautiful quite rare seeing that low through mach loop brilliant footage dude🤘
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for watching.
Awesome Dafydd😊
Thank Pete. ✈️👍
i have definitely bought too many red bulls over the years
This is such a rare and beautiful looking DC-6 as it is a legend to be seen ooo and nice F-35A too 😎✨
Right, which one is the DC-6, again?.. 😊
Would like to see some old warbirds fly thru there.
I have been RUINED by Mega Powerful Jet Engines and Super Sonic Fighters.
This looked like slow motion camera to me.
I still enjoyed it.
Thanks for filming.👌😎👍
Happy you enjoyed it
Thanks for watching.
Amazing to see such an old aircraft fly through the loop. Watched the hardline riders videos from inside the aircraft also.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Saw the video, Looked like they where having fun!
@DafyddPhillips Yeh a few were making use of the sick bags lol
Dude in the red pants had a sore left arm the next day.
RESPECT to the past and where aviation is going.
Wow, that is a beautiful plane.
Makes me want to buy Red Bull.
Thanks! What a treat, first time to ssee a -6 in flight. Gorgeous. Much appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank for watching.

Damn! How good is that!?
Happy you enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching
Wow, that’s just amazing!
Happy you enjoyed it Richard.
Thanks for watching
I happened to find it live on ADS-B Exchange when it did its 2nd run through the Mach Loop. I knew a video was going to follow, so I'm glad I got notified this!
An old putt-putt compared to what normally goes through there - fabulous!
That was cool! The F35’s are fantastic! Thank you
Happy you enjoyed.
Thanks for watching.
What an unsual visitor.
Indeed John ✈️👍
Hi great video when would you say is the best time to go there
Thanks Dave, no best time, you have to chance your luck on a weekday.
Good luck! ✈️✈️🤞
Absolutely fantastic Daf, 👍🏴✈️🇺🇲 I'm properly kicking myself now, I'd tried to get time off to get over for yesterday and today, but the OK from my boss got lost in the ether or some server somewhere 😖😢
Catch you on the hill sometime soon Daf
ATB Andy
Gutted for you in Andy, thanks as always, catch up soon!!
Containing some of the worlds best DH mtb riders
Indeed 🚲🚲🚲
those sheep get to watch the mach loop everyday. how lucky
Indeed ✈️✈️✈️👍
good setup, photo and video on top of each other, I often do that with two video cameras on my tripod. Very nice videos, always filmed stably
Many thanks Marc.
In the hands of a qualified, experienced pilot that old bird is pretty nimble and responsive . Now that was cool.
Thanks for watching
@@DafyddPhillips Absolutely! I still love to hear the Pratt and Whitney R2800s Double Wasp Radial engines beating the air into submission. All that thunder and all those flames. That's real aviation baby!!
Blast from the Past, then Blasts of the Present! What a Blast!!!!
Just a normal days flying for the boys at Everts Air Cargo and Everts Air Fuel! :)
Now that's cool!
Many thanks for watching
Marvellous!!!
Thanks for watching.
Okay, FiFi, Doc, and all you assorted B-17's, B-24's, B-25's etc.: the gauntlet has been thrown. You must go through--at high speed and low altitude--the Mach Loop, just like the Flying Bulls DC-6.
Unless you're CHICKEN!
🙂
I doesn't sound like it has piston engines (the DC-6)?
Maybe the airframe sound making it sound like it's turboprop.
A mate sent me a few photos of the DC6 yesterday. He said it was buzzing around at low altitute near him. He didn't say if he was at his gaff near RAF Shawbury in Shropshire, or over at his folks' place near Barmouth.
He said it sounded lovely.
4 x Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp Radials. 2,400hp.
Each.
The wonderful air vortex 😮❤😮
The footage from inside the cabin was incredible; sounds like the pilots did all they could to make some of the Red Bill sponsored athletes who were riding Red Bull Hardline sick.
I’ve linked Matt Jone’s footage below

Does Conair forest fighting still use the DC 6 out of Abbotsford BC ? They did decades ago but I moved away.
And the view from onboard with the lads and lasses taking part in the Red Bull Hardline
ruclips.net/video/_peQdzWknzk/видео.htmlsi=0w3KjA-uegmE0WYz
It flew over me today in Kent, but I was in a class so I could only hear it 😂
Man, I miss these aircraft for passenger service. This is super nice. Great posting of the beautiful DC-6.
Thanks for watching craig
Its going to be displaying at the Midlands Airshow today along with the Red Bull B-25
Love the way you can see the acrostic hardline route in the background in some of the shots. Nice work!
What's your camera setup? is that an EF 70-200 you're using?
So thats what it was! I was taking photos of steam trains on the Talyllyn Railway and saw a big old piston-engine airliner, twice. I thought I'd fallen into a time warp.
My God, that is just beautiful! What a sight AND sound!
👍🏼
One doesn’t usually associate Red Bull with elegance but here we are. Kudos.
Awesome!!! At last something more interesting than the boring Hariers and jet stuff!
( last DC 6 I saw was Tanker 68) Poor thing, was cut up for scrap.
Those F35's are pretty boring compared to the F15's
