I discovered this version in a bootleg in 2006 when I was only 13. I had started getting into Bob's music the year before. In 2006 I saw him live for the very first time. Now I'm at six gigs and still counting. I'm 24 and I've been listening, reading and studying Bob's songs and writings since 2005. Thanks to him I'm a different person. He's my idol and he will always be. The greatest genius of our times!
Dylan quote, "Don't follow leaders". Just remember that, my friend
Awesome. I first got into Bob in high school when I was 15,16 in the mid nineties. My first show was in 1998 (I ended up seeing him 3 times that year) at the Gorge in my home state of WA. I've seen him a total of nine times. I always say Bob is God just because it makes people mad. Street Legal has always been a favorite because it came out in 1978 and that's the year I was born. Favorite two songs are Dirge and Not Dark Yet.
It's great, I think, to have a benign obsession. .. Why not .. ?
I started listening to him at about the same age as you did. Difference is I was born in 1955. I've got to go to 10 of his concerts. It's been years since I've been to one though. Like you I've always felt blessed to grow up in his time. Always nice to read a comment like yours.
Dylan's outtakes are anyone else's ticket to the hall of fame.
I've been saying it for years. People would kill to have what he throws out.
lots o crumbs t pic up forveveryone ...
well said!
One thing that sometimes makes me feel alone in this world is when I come across someone who doesn't get Dylan. Then, when I read heartfelt comments by other Dylan appreciators, it gives me hope again.
cheer up..yr not alone
Dylan is not for everyone.
Think of how many people 'get' beyonce... being a little lonely seems pretty good to me.
I can feel exactly the same way. The best thing is, when people that you are sure is not Bob Dylan fans, opens up and wants you to hear their favorite Bob Dylan song
+Asger Wiingaard ...and I am not a fan. I admire his craft and care and the way he has treated the mass-comm bobbleheads over the decades.
I'm Brazilian and i'm drunk , but i'm happy for tonight listening Dylan's music, universal singer.
This is the best comment on RUclips, cheers
Been listening to this man for almost 50-years.
So far have loved every second of it.
That's amazing. I hope i can say that one day.
52yrs for me.
How's Ruby?
"...the only thing we knew about Henry Porter is that his name wasn't Henry Porter."
I have been listening to Dylan's work for over 45 years, his music still sounds fresh and relevant. He is an unmatched talent - I'm lucky to have lived in his era!
+jokerman I agree! And I LOVE your username, "Jokerman" a great track of a GREAT album, 1983's "Infidels", which contained such gems as "Sweetheart Like You", "Don't Fall Apart On Me Tonight", "License to Kill" and of course, your username, "Jokerman".. Bob's career is studded with myriad highlights, you have to love him! Peace, love & respect from musician and Dylan-nut Davey, from Ireland. :)

@jokerman9282. 53 years so far !
When I was 13 years old I first heard Dylan singing Mr Tambourine man, it started a life long love of his music... I am 67 years old now. and still feel the same listening to his music as I did back then... As a 20 year old my then girlfriend an avid Elvis fan told me that Elvis would always be the king., my reply was If Elvis is the king then Dylan is God...
Wasn't it Clapton who used to hold that position?
Bob is my God, too!
Actually, they are both god. And don't forget Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard or Gordon Lightfoot or any of the greats whom have left us spinning. How about Neil Young?
My own personal belief is that those who get it at an early enough age, in terms of 'life's meaning' and mankind's purpose in it ,well what can you say? His lucky break really began with Guthrie and the black man's blues.
To see a man or woman and not see color is a special gift. And didn't Dylan and Guthrie in so many others have that gift?
One more I would like to add to the list of greats:Greg Brown!
One of my favorite Bob Dylan songs.
Just love the way he phrases the line , " theatre of Devine comedy"
absolutely beautiful . I actually find myself listening to this a few times a day .
You can thank Dante Alighieri for the Divine Comedy.
..me too, isn't this remarkable ??
must be the 100th time I'm listening to this version, now it's under my skin!
Isn't it amazing !!!
Este hombre me ha vuelto a sorprender...lo conoci a los 12 años y no me decepciono...sus melodías vibran en mi alma
The lyrical changes are superb. Dylan never fails to inspire and provoke.
Agree
CANNOT SAY HOW MUCH THIS DUDE KEEPS ME KICKING.

Same mate!!!
I am indebted to him. He has brought me back from the dead (spiritually speaking).
I understand my friend
me too...
Just dropped in on a never-ending tour of the new Nobel Laureate's greatest RUclips movements. A great day for American culture. Congratulations to Mr D . . .
Back again for the 100th time in as many years. ;-) Love this version
I can never decide if I have a favorite Dylan song. My favorite is always whatever Dylan song I'm listening to at the moment. The first time I heard this gem was when I played the Biograph album. I loved it immediately.
Me too. Good album, Biograph.
BEST version of this song. Don't even argue.
Totally wonderful. He pulls a masterpiece out of the hat that he has been working on for years. Incredible. One of my favourite Dylan compositions.
One of my favourite songs by Bob. It sounds a bit like Wagon Wheel, which a band performs at my workplace from time to time. But when they play it I'm reminded of this song, and Bob's genius.
I really think this one should have been on an album release...his outtakes are greater than most everyone else's greatest hits, lol.
Fanstastic version of a wonderful song.
Nobody could do it like this 'cept Dylan.
In my opinion he's the best singer the world has ever seen.
I'll see him performing in Main next Saturday.
Can't wait...

Me too but I was in middle school in 93, I heard dont think twice in a movie and fell in love. I've had the priveledge of seeing him live 17 times since 96. Yay I love my fellow Bob lovers
Every time I'm accused of overthinking (thinking beyond TikTok, social media and such) I cry then come home and listen to Bob Dylan
This version is superior to biograph. More mournful
Been fan of Bob since I first listened to Freewheelin' back in the summer of 63. Only Cohen, Waits and Knopfler come close to his genius.
I've only ever heard the Biograph version - it's what I'm used to :) but loving this one!
+Jahara Rhiannon I had this version as a bootleg years ago... Never thought I'd hear it again. I love the Biograph version, but I love this too. I have no favourite, as I consider the two of them DIFFERENT songs :) Great stuff nonetheless.. Davey
Jahara Rhiannon I love the biograph version
There both great but the biograph version chugs more. Great for blasting on the interstate.
This man's outtakes would get anyone else into the Music Hall Of Fame!
53 albums and still going strong !!! Keep going Bob.
How many songs ?? anyone bothered to count. I come upon a new song everytime I am in RUclips, still after 40yrs.
You've been on RUclips for 40 yrs? Must be some kind of record!!
More than 500 songs
Sei il
Più più !!! Grande unico!! Mio amato Bob Dylan! Amoooo! Love
Those 3 albums- Saved, Shot of Love, Slow Train Coming...are fu*king fantastic. It may have been a confusing time for fans and critics, but it was one of Dylan's most creative periods. The music is spot on and the lyrics came straight from the gut. I was 8 years old when Slow Train came out and I first saw him in concert. As a life long Dylan fan, I find this period in his career fascinating. Thank you for posting!
I also love those 3 records. I get so tired of critics criticizing those albums.
a true artistic genius , there are only a few in every generation - he is one !
+richard jagger in this generation there is no one
+kovaliov7 Yep, NO one will ever be able to match what Dylan accomplished. Even a hundred generations later.
+richard jagger In Dylan's generation, The Beatles were better.
Alfredo Di Stéfano Laulhé the Beatles were great also but you're missing the point , artistic creativity is not about being " better "
richard jagger
Beatles were better.
I can find a Dylan song over and over. A new version or one I haven't heard for a while..although he's been in my life everyday for years, and the music ( this song right now) distills my heart for the day. Brings my life and my people I love and have loved into such clear focus, but with new layers. The words bring time and place to me so clearly. This man has brought such goodness and helped me through such hard times. The loving and loosing and pain and joy of life. Thank you
The Best Version of this Song.Pure Perfect.
This man never ceases to amaze me, excellent..
after hearing this for months when i couldn't find the original version on youtube,, i gotta say i like this one as much if not more ,,, god bless this man :)
Awesome version. I told a DJ about the Biograph version once. The station played it damn near endlessly after that. THIS is not guite as hard a rocking version but the lyrics are classic! That radio is long off the air. DYLAN IS STILL HERE!!!!!!!!!
This is a really great song, one of bob's best ever.
Any other pop or rock Singer should pay with their own Blood for writing/singing such a marvellous masterpiece. For HIs Bobness Just only an Outtake! He travels on a parallel universe.
Superbe Chanson tirée de "Shot of Love" (1983). Superbe composition!!! What A SONGWRITER!!!
Interesting lyrics (story) and music with a good beat! Dylan always gives you your $'s worth in his songs! Love Bob Dylan !
Love this version thanks for sharing this gem.
LOVE love love this tune it popped in my head today and I havent heard this version. Only the biograph one
I didnt know this song. Wow !thanks. It's so great!
Always..a wonderful key change in there and imaginative melody.Holy cow !
What interesting passages musically. I'll examine the lyrics 2nd time.
thanks for putting this up, this is my favorite version o fcaribean wind, and Ive missed it for months
Amazing Dylan, the best ever !!!!
One of the best songs ever preformed and written!
Hope to hear this version on one of the Bootleg Series soon! I swear, Bob Dylan is going to be considered a prophet in 100 years! Unbelievable!?!
Bob Dylan is to me now and forever!
Why wait, I've considered him a prophet since Hard Rain's a gonna fall, Where you been?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin'
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison
And the executioner's face is always well hidden
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten
Where black is the color, where none is the number
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin'
But I'll know my song well before I start singin'
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.
That's prophet level shit
Wow, never have heard this!! And I've been listening to Bob since 1966.
Hi Bob, I've been listening your songs from 1965 and I'm glad you are keeping your style.
WOW!!!!! I have never heard this version before! Thank you
Damn, What sort of gift allowed this man to change personas as they applied to the era? ...I know America is a work in progress, I only hope the work continues,.
this is magic ! ' what would life be
without ' bob ! '
What a great song. Thanks for posting!
Wow..Release this song today and it would be a big hit and it would wake up the sleepers that are lost in someone elses culture.
RAW!... LOVE IT!! Thank you :-)
Bob does multiple versions of a lot of songs, but the version of this on BIOGRAPH is WAY different than this version, even most of the words other than the chorus are different. Personally, I like the BIOGRAPH version better, but both have their merits.
Casey Vee While I love the outtake here, I agree that the Biograph version is better.
The opening lyrics here are so amazing they make this version best for me
wow, the sound quality on this video is amazing. Absolutely beautiful song, a tropical visions of Johanna tinged in heartfelt spirituality and genuine human nobility. But ya'll knew that already.
This is my first dose of this song. Groovy!
lol at all the people who say "80's Dylan was shite" ... yeah right ... Caribbean Wind, Blind Willie McTell, Groom Still Waiting at Altar, Every Grain of Sand ..... etc etc .... Id take his 80's output over anything by anybody else, ever.
boxingjerapah here here, foot of pride, angelina, jokerman, gotta a hold of my heart, angels flying too close to the ground etc.
most of the time, dont fall apart on me tonight, silvio, dark eyes,.. many more :D
Infidels is a great album from 1983.
The entire "Oh Mercy" album is amazing as well as several tracks off "Empire Burlesque."
Bob's religious adventure is some of his clearest and best listening gifts. He looks the happiest ever those unemployment, recession, gas war and THE LAST NO WAR DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
like the shore, the canada geese going south, dylan turns me towards the spirit
Wow!!!!! Nice find!
Maravillosa versión. Te amo Bob!
So great ! Thank you for posting !
One of my absolute favorite Dylan tunes. The version on Biograph - different arrangement and lyrics - is also amazing.
Dylan never released this song because he felt that the lyrics were too confusing. Had he kept the sound and some of the lyrics from this Outtake version and added a few others from the Demo versions, this would have been his greatest song. I personally love all of them but this version is just incredible!!!
Well put. I so agree. This is one of my favorite Bob songs of all time.
'SO beautiful How does he do it? He could make a greatest hits out of songs he rejected.
Perfectly said!
+M Tolstoy That's what a lot of the bootleg stuff is. He knows people have heard the songs, and wrote so many it was too much for so many albums. He also gave a lot of songs away that he rarely sings himself.
Im very familiar with his bootleged material his career having been a fan for around 40 years but the man never ceases to amaze me.
+M Tolstoy Same for me.
Jean Bakula tHAks its nice to hear
I've heard plenty of "bootleg" Bobby, but not this song. Love this version!
the best dance tune ever! well, when you're drunk, at least :-) still bob rules whenever! ;-)
I'm listening to this every day and right before I go to bed. What can you do if you're in love with a song by a guy you're in love with too? My two younger sisters don't know
anything about Dylan. They think he's some sixties singer who's not around any more!
Can you believe that? Same thing about Leonard Cohen. I feel sorry for people who will
Never go to a concert by these ultimate artists. But hey I offered to teach them! Their
Loss! Then Bob gets the Nobel for Literature! They just stare at me like oh she wasn't
Kidding! No I wasn't! Gotta go listen to this again.................
one of dylans finest works!
En el 78....ahora tengo 57.... y lo disfruto..
One of my absolute favourite bob-bootlegs
The intro ,,,, then the build up ,,,, it's amazing ...anyway,... how could a piece of music be so full of the essence of
Thunder ... the melody scans one's brain also ,,, the part that pulls you into a crazed whole.
I actually like some of the later lyrics from the official version, but I love a lot of the ones here and wish he kept them. The performance and music in this version is so much better too.
the snake and the cat .looking eye to eye
amazing how Bob can translate the atmosphere of what a song title evokes through his music ... ( I was also thinking of " One more cup of coffee" !)...
o my gosh.. Dylan just made my day!!
BEAUTIFUL. THE LAST NO WAR DAYS WE WILL EVER KNOW.
Thanks! Such unique music!👏
The GREATEST!!!
VIVA BOB DYLAN COM A CRUZ DE JESUS CRISTO NO PEITO . SHALLOM NÓS NO BRASIL GOSTAMOS DE VOCE !!!!
What beautiful , heart reaching lyrics to Caribbean Wind !! I can not see it noted who wrote it ; it surely seems like Bob did or if he didnt he puts his own fabulous spin on it as he does every song he writes or version of songs ! A video of wonderment and awe built into the emotional delivery , which is another side of Dylan , which people rarely mention first about Bob !!!!!!!
Right on Letsif.People are sometimes afraid of what they will never understand.Hell,I have loved Dylan since I first heard him.
I play a lot of Dylan guitar and harmonica. I have a song his songs on the street as a street singer since I was 22 years old. One time I was playing in Burlington Vermont and I wasn't making a nickel and I was not making a nickel and there were lots of people. I used to carry Dylan's book of words on the street with me. Desperately trying to make a nickel for a dime, I turned the page and played and play the one about Little Red wagon little red bike I ain't no monkey but I know what I like...and this Canadian fellow comes over and throws $320 in my case;no lie. He appeared to be from the Middle East region, perhaps Iran or Turkey. He had tears in his eyes when he threw the money in my case.
Fantastic ! Thanks for posting.
Wow. Never heard this one before! Thanks!
one word,,,,, beautiful.
god damn why have I've never heard this version before, LOOOOOOVE it.
Beautiful. Thank you for this.
Continuing to discover Dylan’s best song
I love the Line in the Bio 3-Disc Version that talks of the jungle where her brothers were slain....
The out take from '81 on Biograph rocks much harder. A song I think of everytime I fall asleep on the beach in Abaco.
How does this song not make it onto an officially released Bob album? An argument can be made that this might be in his top ten of all time.
This song reminds me of Mexico!
sweet , gorgeous , sublime !
This version should have been officially released up to this point…😭
I adore this! Yeah, thanks very much!
GREAT CUT OF GREAT SONG !!!
bob dylan vc é o maior, te amo tanto que me dá vontade de chorar qdo escuto vc e lembro de velhos amigos que ja nem vejo mais
another masterpiece ...
Grazie, grazie, grazie, grazie, grazie e infinitamente grazie Signor Dylan
Another very good song.
