Nicks the type of friend who doesn’t tap his shoes off before getting in and turns on the wiper blades before closing the door... but we love it anyway
"It's no fun unless someone dies"
This is why I watch these videos lol
2nd that
3rd that
Nick you legend.
Great car control!
Anup one handed snow drifting, manual car, dog in the footwell, filming with other hand, absolutely crazy.
The editing, music, and commentary is so chill in contrast to the utter madness of what’s happening XD
5:58 I would have dropped the camera to start steering two handed while shitting my pants.
hes very confident with his insurance lol
I've had six 911s almost continuously since a 1970 911T up to my current 997 Cab, and with the early ones, I drove 12 months of the year, commuting 25 miles each way every day including during snowy New England winters. Aside from absolutely essential winter tires, one of the things I learned early on is that they had to be narrow ones if I wanted any semblance of stability on snowy and icy roads. Wide tires just want to hydroplane, or should I say snowplane. It came to me the first year I had the T, partly because I had driven a VW bug in the same conditions without a problem for some time before that, and when I got into the 911 it was a total handful by comparison, even with what I thought were good winter tires. The bug, of course, was a lot lighter, had very narrow tires, and similar weight distribution to the early 911's, but handled way better in the snow. So after a little research into professional winter rally driving it became obvious that what I had to get was narrow snow tires if I were to continue driving the 911 in snow. The main challenge was getting ones that had enough load capacity, even if not as much as my high-performance summer tires.
Anyway, problem solved, and I never had an accident save a minor one when some fool was driving his barge in the snow as though it were Road America at the June Sprints and ran into me.
After almost crashing - "Steve is having trouble keeping up with me" Wonder why that might be ;)
atom Haha, yeah. Nobody knows why!? Must have just been Steve being a wimp... 😂
Yes, snow tires make the difference. Several years ago drove through heavy snow in upper Michigan with my C2 911. I had Blizzak snow tires on all four corners. No problems even though the snow started getting deep.
“Jeep tried to tow me.. huh , he doesn’t know - I’ll be towing him in a minute...”
Why did I laugh so hard at this 😂
because you know its true
Finally folks that use Porsche’s as intended!! No ball tucking with these guys!
How is it you only have 120k subscribers ?! You have great cotents ! Keep up the good work Nick !
He should have more. I agree.
The c4s 911 has to be the most utilitarian sports car in existence. 4 sears, awd, snow capable, reliable, comfortable. Great all around car and a sports car that could easily be a daily
Tchaikovsky in the winter - nice.
Just finished another long shift for our national health service and saw this! Another great video, just what the doctor ordered! Many thanks!
Another drag race, another loss! Great video as usual.
Fair play for taking the 911 out in that, I would be more worried about other cars hitting me
Hi all,I love driving in the snow with my Cayman. If you're interested in the best winter tire in the world that can actually go up hills take it from a crazy canuck
that the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 made in Finland is the tire to use.The Fins know all about snow , they are the leading innovator in snow tire technology.
Nokian Tyres has very long tradition developing and testing winter tyres in Finland. Check this one: ruclips.net/video/f4TSgk_1TQU/видео.html
I've been waiting for a video like this for years to convince me. I want that life, nice house and dream car.
Nick inspired me two years ago to get a C2 with a rear wiper and winter tires. I still need to find a way to repay him. Perfect all year car. 👌🏼
You know, a normal RUclipsr would make that part where you almost lost it into a separate video and title it "RUclipsR CRASHES MILLION DOLLAR FERRARI WHILE BEING CHASED DOWN BY A RUSSIAN MOBSTER"..
I put this down to Nick being a kiwi and his personality. Here most people are modest, friendly, down to earth, real not fake and honest and Nick is a perfect example. Obviously I don't know Nick, but it's just my impression. Thanks for keeping the classical music in too. Style is something most youtubers especially vloggers have no idea of.
LOL
Fuckin vloggers they’re mostly shit
Nick is cool tho
Mo-hammad Abunaser Haha! 😂
Nick Murray, the man who helped me fall in love with 911's with his 991.1 spec! Keep making the fun videos!
No positive that was a responsible way to drive in snow with one hand on wheel and another on a go-pro (having fun). Love Porsche, love the idea to experience in snow as well. drives safe for others that sharing the road with you.
This was super fun to watch for me haha. Although the Mustang gets around okay in light snow, I'm not confident enough to take it out in heavy snow like this, even with my snow tires. So I miss the days in my Legacy GT when I was able to go anywhere in the snow like you guys did here.
Matt Maran Motoring I'm mm. M
Mm
Thick snow and AWD... A friend of mine had a Mazda 323 Turbo AWD and he demonstrated to me what a AWD could do in the snow. He drove to a hill in the city covered with snow deep that had not been removed and it was so steep that I would not have been able to stop and get going again in that hill even with just ice. He did drive right into it up the hill with so much snow that it was coming up on the hood of the car. Stopped in the middle of the hill and then started driving up the hill again with more snow coming up on the hood... It is the sickest thing I have ever seen, I could not believe it, but it did drive up that hill in deep snow where I could not have gone 20cm in and he drove all way up the 50m long hill (short hill until next intersection).
Lots of love amigo from Afghanistan!!
Is that your Russian mail ordered husband? :P i kid..love ya Nick.
He is!! I am pretty happy with him over all but he said he had a T-34 and I am yet too see it.
You really want to see his AK collection... lol
As Lord Flasheart would say: "Am I pleased to see you, or did I just put a T-34 in my pocket, WOOF" ;)
Well, have you shown him your Spitfire?? ;)
Great video, BTW.
Nick, love how you pick up Tui and just put her in the car, no fuss about snow getting onto seats. Shows the priorities, well done.
Great video. I had a Porsche 996 C4S with Pirelli winter tires and it was a beast in the snow. Was my winter daily for years. Better in snow than my wife’s SUV
All followers should participate in a collection to enable Porsche driver Steven to get proper Winter shoes....
It's very difficult to dose the gas and brake pedal with thick winter boots and on snow and ice this is essential.
Rick2010100 Fully agree, although there should be alternatives to moccasins. Anyhow, I take it that Russians never get cold feet anyway!
They also have a magic fluid against frostbite - it's called vodka.
Super fun video! Love your channel and the tchaikovsky background music!
I love porsches in snow.
My 2002 gti 1.8t gti did really well with studded snows. Anything else isncrap this guy is 100% right about tire choice
Nick you’re a brave man! I drove my 944 (without snow tires) in 9 winters with lots of snow because I had no choice and for the most part did ok...ahh to be 20something and not care or know any better. I currently have an 2018 S5 with Blizzaks doing the snow duties and the 991.1 C2S is cozy in it’s garage stall plugged into a charger.
Great fun, when we were younger my brother had an old corvair unstoppable. Thanks
Very enjoyable as always. Keep up the good work, Nick!
I like driving my Cayman in the snow as well. The main issue is ground clearance.
And of course narrower tyres wouldn't hurt.
Proper tires for the job are beyond important. Plan to get a 911 when I move to CT definitely answered lot of Questions 👍🏻
Love that you drive these in the snow
Looks like lots of snow fun! Thx for the vid, Nick. Again, lol. Cheers, Irwin
One of my favorite videos on your channel dear Nick, awesome, you are making America great again :-j !
SO reassuring hearing that clicking noise at 3:35. My windshield wipers make the same noise and I feared it was the wipers rubbing against a tiny crack I've got in the windshield. From the sound of it, it's just a thing Porsche windshield wipers do at times...
Love to see these cars in the snow 👍🏻
Well done 👍🏼 and keep up the excellent videos
Never thought I would say that, but you seem to be able to drive properly
Winter Wonderland.
Some of the best fun driving.
Can't believe you kept the roof up!
Here in America, we would call the snow "deep", not "thick"! Much akin to calling a tender steak "soft"! Great video!
Hey Nick. My 2017 911 991.2 is in the garage for the winter over here in Rhode Island. My 2016 Macan S on Perelli Scorpians is A+. Went out in the middle of the snow to pickup my wife from work. Not a single problem. Go Porsche!!!!!!
Andrew
This is why I want a 4 or 4s. Winter driving in a good 6” of fresh powder sounds blissful!
My ‘72 Beetle convertible was the best in the snow.. it was cold but unstoppable.
Thanks Nick for another informative and entertaining video. The rear wiper option was a wise choice. I lost it at 1:27; it looked like your car was about to slam into your friends car, then realized your friend was walking to his car while wearing a GoPro... Whew! Haha
Love your videos Nick, they’re always well done, and entertaining.
I can't stand driving in snow. This was very entertaining to watch! Living in Dallas, TX anything over an inch or so of ice accumulation and the entire city shuts down for weeks at a time. It's truly sad. I used to live up in NE Ohio; Lake Effect Snow is the Reg. the roads being cleared by plows made it easy in comparison.
Okay, when we made Shamu's Slumber, I knew we were insane. Fortunately, I see we are not the only RUclips Creators to go into the snow in 911s for a good Video. Nicely done. Looks like you made it back safely. Heidi
Hey Nick I saw you driving on Thursday on my snow day but I though Governor Malloy said to stay of the roads
Rules....
You are nuts Nick...driving in those conditions - but it is great to see you actually enjoy and use your Porsche capabilities.
I miss having fun driving in the snow , don’t get much in AZ, it is a blast and the roads usually have much less traffic. You are absolutely correct on the tires, makes all the difference regardless of what your driving. Lived in Ontario for a few years , winters were fun but I don’t miss having to shovel snow.
"It's no fun unless someone dies" lol wise words there Nick
All wheel drive for the win!
Porsche looks so pretty in the snow at the end of the video
Nick, i hope to see some 911 snow videos this year as well? I enjoy these type of videos just a bit too much. Nothing more satisfying than watching an sportscar getting proper use and abuse in thick snow.
Not too many videos of guys drag racing 911s in the snow - deserves a thumbs up even though I'm 11 months late :)
And people think Porsches aren't good in the snow. I'm confident Porsche engineers know what they are doing when building such magnificent machines...and I'm sure Germany gets plenty of snow every year to put their cars to the test.
Another year and another 911 in the snow and throws a snowy dog inside - Way to be a down to earth guy Nick .
Great video. I own a 911 C4S here in the UK and it's good to know what's possible!
Awesome video. Very informative yet still fun and cool. Appreciate that
It means that when i do order a 911, it will be a 4. Oh well. That may be quite a few years from now as i just got the Cross Turismo. I can't wait to check the snow scene with my Cross Turismo. Doing the tire change in two weeks!!
Wiper on a cab?.. sure nick. Also tune your car
Very entertaining ! I have an x4 m40i and I can’t wait to let it loose in the snow
That 997 still sounds amazing.
5.58 squeaky bum time! I genuinely thought you were gonna lose that!
I'm not fortunate enough to have a Porsche Carrera, but it is my dream car. It seems the regular 2WD is good enough for most conditions. If you run across really heavy snow, 2WD, good snow tires (or possibly even all season tires designed to handle heavy snow) and common sense should see you through.
Knew that place looked familiar. Good ole FF ... I could tell from the rest stop. Then N. Benson. If you see a handsome, Arctic Silver 996 C4 Cab passing you, be sure to wave.
Brilliant skid recovery Nicholassssssss....
Extraordinary to witness the strength of the seasons in your home state. Pretty extreme in both Winter and Summer !
PS I'd be worried sick , letting a friend drive my car in the dry , let alone the snow!
Jeepers are helpful as always :)
I love the interior in the c4s
Fun video with good information. Thumbs up!
Wonderful to see you driving in the deep snow Nick, can you post some more snow videos illustrating your Porsche on Steeper hills and gradients which are snow covered and some other videos with some Porsche snow POWER SLIDING!
I am in the process of convincing the wife to purchase a c4s, more videos like this will help my cause.
Great video Nick, enjoyed every minute of it.
Split Mu Surface conditions ( part asphalt with higher grip vs less grippy snow/ice) is at 5:58 is exactly why it is a smart idea to leave the Stability control ON at the interstate in highway conditions!
It is however a good idea to keep it OFF if you want to HOON it on regular roads.
Great video though! Thanks for sharing!
That`s how a Porsche should be driven!!
Love how you had to look over your head at the roof before saying it was a cabrio :)
People around me act as if you need a military truck to drive through snow.
I drive a Mini Cooper S. 😂
Nick, another great video, thanks! More ice than snow down here in the DC area but, the Pirelli winter's work nice on my C4S as well. Thanks for the recommendation.
Looks great fun Nick!! Happy new year to you buddy and keep up the good work.. may 2018 be kind to you and your channel!
I'm so glad I live in Texas. This is more snow than I've seen in the last 30 years combined. :-p
When it snows I stay inside, but Nick drives his 911.
Wish I had the cars to play with snow
Extra points Nick!
Don't get too confident, your stopping distance is the same as any other car :) great video nick
5:38 omg that could have ended in tears..and a heart condition. Maybe some viewers burst into tears from laughing, could have been good as click bait. Good reaction time anyway, cheers to you Nick
Ditto to Mr. Axel below. You need to send that man back to wardrobe for a refit Nick. Seriously though, good video once again. Happy New year!
Great video, a good save, one handed!
You really don’t need AWD if you know how to drive, and have the best tires. Remember that braking is no different with 2WD vs 4WD!!
Nick, you are a daredevil!
No fun if no one dies. You almost made Nick... That was scary. It was on a public road not on an off-road track :o
Nice, first 997 car you tested I think... I have a 997 and WE believe it's the last raw Porsche as 991 became too much of a GT. Love you to do a proper back to back drive in dry someday!
Thanks for this vid!
It's amazing he trusts so many people to drive his car, and so many people trust him to drive theirs.
Commander Russels It's common for Porsche owners. Many people have driven my Porsches and I've driven lots of other peoples. It's probably because Porsche enthusiasts rarely are dicks. We love the cars and it's even more enjoyable when you let others experience them. 😊
I'm a Porsche owner and a dick apparently, because I'd only let extremely close friends drive my car. Especially in a snow storm.
Commander Russels That's not a snow storm it's just snowing. Pretty normal and nothing extreme. I find great experiences to be better when I share them, YMMV.
Great weather 🤣❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️👍
