This is what you ALL you need to know about golf. It took me 1 year of lessons to get what he is saying. Follow this guy. This is just brilliant and will avoid time and money loss
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Great video, amazing advice for spinning out. Exactly what I’m trying to fix at the moment as once the arms get trapped you are toast.
Glad you found the video helpful!

OK, another video I will several times through without hitting the ball, then to the range. Keep emphasizing the way you do, my game is improving, video by video, drill by drill, day by day. Thank You!
That’s great!! 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Superb video. your highlighted point in regards to dropping the arms instead of throwing the wrist angle away from the top was exceptional. Thanks!!
It’s a big distinction!

Brilliant Andrew. You understand the golf swing (and can break it down and explain it) better than anyone else on RUclips. Well done.

Schaun- Thank you for the vote of confidence. Welcome aboard! A. 🏌️♂️⛳️
Tried this technique on the course last weekend. Started with fat shots but as i got into my round the strikes were much better. Getting the lead arm off the chest helped
Hi Gareth! Don’t pin that lead arm against your body and spin like so many golfers. It works down and forward - ‘off’ the chest past the ball! Get after it!

Great lesson as always. Going to work on this lesson this week. I have been forcing my body too much. The arms and the wrist will bring the bosy thru the swing. Thanks Coach A.

This is a great video for us. I try to remember at times in my game when I have a critical shot to not let my body out run my hands. I'll practice this. Thanks for the video.

Brilliant Andrew. Very clear, very simple!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you! 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I remember awhile back a video you did and when I was practicing hitting balls I was focused on extending the right arm. It felt as though i was releasing early but my strikes were pure. Then I got away from it and watching this video again I did a few practice sessions and as soon as I started to extend my right arm what feels early my strikes were so pure. This video was great reminder for this.
Arms move down and “forward!” Get after it! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
What a great explanation Andrew of how the arms and wrists work in the golf swing. I've watched a lot of You Tube lessons, and this is one of the best! Well Done Sir!
John, thanks mate! Appreciate the comment. Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf I've liked your content so much, that I have become a subscriber! Looking forward to more good to come!
Hi Andrew, yet another excellent video that easily breaks the different parts of the swing into bite sized chunks - easy to digest and a definite “head to the range” to put into practice!

Thanks John!! Keep it simple and be patient with these drills. They’re hard!

great video! great explanation.... "educate the arms"!
Thanks Chris!! It’s a blend is all - Ground Pressure through the feet, arms swing and wrist articulation. More emphasis on the last two is important! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Great lesson Andrew. Any tips on keeping the left arm from collapsing? Having trouble keeping the left arm straight and making a full turn in the backswing. Thank you.
Larry - Golfers are obsessed with keeping the lead arm extended in the backswing which very often creates excessive tension in my experience. The trick is understanding that even if the arms get pinched at the top, IF you delay the bodies spin phase you can unpack them vertically and in fact create more arm speed!
Having said that most golfers get narrow because they haven’t hinged and folded their trail arm earlier enough in the backswing!
You’re likely collapsing because you have to - to create any arm speed! I’ve attached a video that talks about the role of the trail arm. I hope it helps!

Thanks for this lesson on the arms. I must admit that sometimes I have to intentionally extend my right arm when I find I’m not making good contact with the ball. You would think that it would just happen during the swing…but not always! Thanks!
I have to do the same!!! Both arms relaxed and extended past the ball is huge!

Love your videos Andrew. Look forward to them every week.
Awesome, thank you!🙏🏻
Andrew: I love your stuff!! Now, I'm 73 years old and play to a 6-8 hdcp from the Blues (6800 yds) and I was really concerned that my distance and speed would soon decline. Frankly, it did!! So, after watching your videos I went and tryed your speed techniques and it really worked for every iron in my bag except the 5 iron. The real problem comes with the driver, fairway woods and hybrids---these clubs are longer and I just can't seem to "take the elevator" without being too steep. I believe in your thoughts with every iron but I need either a visual or a thought to create the longer distances for the woods. My irons, I have increased the distance by 15-20 yards but the woods and longer irons (5,4,3) just don't want to cooperate---and thoughts?????
At 73 you’re handicapping yourself by not having a 5/4/3 hybrid in my opinion! I don’t use a 3 iron and I have crossovers for my 5/4 iron……It’s like cheating. The misses are better, the trajectory is higher and you can stop them on a dime. They’re easy to hit from both the fairway and the rough also.
Having said that it’s likely that your swing is a little steep and to be honest. Without seeing your swing I’m throwing darts blindfolded! Happy to help if you would like to invest in your golf game! Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻⬇️

Should there be a slight drop like a little squat as the arms come down in transition from the back to the forward swing?
Raymond! You’re talking about ‘Ground Reaction Forces (GRF)’ which is helpful for sure. Force production is all about moving into and out of the ground in order to sling the club head faster!
My advice - Do NOT work on this unless you are seeing a qualified golf coach! It’ll likely do more harm than good. Focus on educating your arms and wrists first and then marry that leverage system to your body dynamics so you have a sequenced golf swing.
Ground mechanics are of course important but putting the cart before the horse is the easiest way for your golf to go sideways! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Great video. Thanks Andrew,
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Great video. Question-I’ve been playing for 45 years and have always fought a flying right elbow. I’ve been able to improve that somewhat and gotten away from going across the line. Still struggle with being too steep and OTT at times. Any suggestions on how to do what you are teaching based on that issue?
Hi Jeff, it’s quite likely that you lack external trail shoulder mobility. Unless you’ve been tested you wouldn’t know. In any case Fred Couples and a number of great players have flying trail elbows. The key is repositioning the trail shoulder/arm on the approach to impact!
I like my students to feel like their trail palm is pointing more towards the sky at the top of the backswing. IF this is a swing issue and not a mobility issue then this will definitely help relocate the trail elbow at the top!
If you lack mobility I would suggest perhaps looking up sleeper stretch, and wall angels. These are good exercises that would help. Like all exercises if you feel any pain do NOT proceed with these exercises.

I did it all though my round while waiting for the guys to hit their drive .👏👍
Great info, at 68 I still shoot around high 70 however 2 back surgeries and still coming over the top need help to get more in to a draw. Every time I try to drop my arms I hit it fat and end up going back to a fade anything you can suggest would be great thanks
Great lesson

great instruction as usual Andrew. One question. Swinging with one hand at a time produces noticeably greater speed than wit both hands on the club at the same time. Your thoughts please.
It might feel that way but I think I you’ll find you hit the ball further with two hands than with one! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Camera angle makes me see monster pull to the left. Scary. 😅

Do you think its wrong to press the right shoulder back in the backswing? i tested this and i incresed my swingsspeed and i feel i got more power when i press the shoulder forwad in the downswing. I like your utube films very much. //stig from Sweden.
Hi Stig! Trail shoulder behind you in the backswing is a GREAT swing feel. Also allowing your trail hip to work behind you is helpful. Both of these feels will help you create more pivot depth and a wider pocket for your arms as they approach impact! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf 😀Thankyou
Club face is king!
It certainly is!! 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I ask myself that question all the time, as soon as they take over, I spray the ball all over, yet, I learn and was a 1 handicap just feeling my hands take over, then lessons and body biomechanics was introduced, now my hands get me in trouble, my body takes over and I play good but the feel of turning off my hands feels weird
Feels v Reals!! In my experience - you have to do what is right, not what feels right. Having said that, you also have to find what works best for you!! So many ways to swing a golf club. If you’re a 1 handicap with high swing speed then a ‘fade’ release pattern might be ideal!
Bottom line - You need a reliable pattern. Start with what ball flight you want and then work backwards from there.

👏👏👏👍
Thanks! A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
If u use all these joints like arms , wrists, elbow and arm how can u be consistent to hit the ball? Too many joints.
Try locking up your wrists, elbows and shoulders and playing golf! Without leveraging the club you’ll have no speed whatsoever! However you spin it………#golfishard
I’ve been working on this swing technique and have never hit my irons so pure and on line but nothing but push slices and blocks with the driver. Clueless as to what I’m doing that’s so different with the driver. Also seems like pulling the arms down fast and not dragging the club thru impact is contradictory. The swing is happening so fast how do you slow down the arms and transfer energy to the clubhead so that you don’t drag it thru impact. Seems like it has to happen on its own. Thoughts please. Thanks!
You have to throw the club head sooner! Twist it as you change direction and feel like your hands are behind the ball at impact!! I know it’s strange - start at 60% with some pull and pull draws and then increase your speed!
Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf Thanks coach! Also want to let you know that you are actually the first pro instructor on RUclips that I’ve been able to take your instruction to the range and get immediate results. You have a superb way of communicating swing fundamentals. Hats off to you sir and thank you! I’ve been lost for years and local club pros mostly teaching a body swing method hasn’t helped, especially with an older guy like me with lower back issues.
So it's ok to bend the left arm on the backswing.
Extending the lead arm in the backswing has destroyed a lot more swings than it’s helped in my opinion! If you lack mobility and/or strength I encourage flexing the arms (to a point) at the top so that you can unload the arms on the approach to the ball.
Not everyone has the ability to transfer energy and speed kinematically from the ground to the club head! You have to help each student based on their individual needs.
In any case I much prefer feeling like your trail arm is a little more extended at the top to create width! You want to maintain ‘structure’ but importantly minimize ‘tension!’ It’s a tight rope that I walk every day with my students!
Best, Coach A.🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
@@AndrewEmeryGolf Thank you for your explanation. Today I did not worry about keeping my lead arm straight which reduces my tension. I hit the much better today. But the tip you gave on moving the lead shoulder away from the chin at the start of the downswing is golden. It's a aha moment! Thanks again.
That’s awesome David!! 👊🏻
Yes arms are the major speed producer but Sequencing is the key All pros like you started as weak kids, the club is very heavy, its milliseconds but the arms move last Most golfers start as strong men they move the arms first to take the club away then body
Agree with everything in video,i do right arm only swings and strikes But warning you need some physical conditioning or u may injure yourself, use a tennis racquet first
PS doing left arm only swings has turned me almost ambidextrous!
Salient points Graham! Thank you!

Golf comment: Funny… as a right-handed person who plays golf left-handed, I find lead side, one-handed swings easier than trail side, one-handed swings.
None-golf comment: “Conflate” means to fuse into one entity or merge. It doesn’t mean to confuse or mistake.
That makes sense! Always easier with your dominant hand. Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
I too am right handed playing golf left handed. I've had to learn to neutralize my right hand and arm during my swing. If not, I tend to pull shots to the right. Practicing trail arm swings only is a benefit. I focus on more left (trail) arm movement through impact to finish.
