      My froggin head just exploded! I have worked so hard trying to get rid of my excesses side bend in forward swing this will fix it! No reason to crunch right side through impact- force is going forward not down… correct? Thanks for great content

    I came across this video because of the title and was blown away with this information. I have always heard to raise your arms in the backswing for the 25 years I have been playing bad golf. The next day I stepped out into the field beside my house to try this swing technique out. I could only use a Gap & PW because of the length of the field. After working slowly with this swing technique to begin with, I hit the 1st ball with about 60% effort 100 Yds straight to my target. As I worked up to 80% & 100% swings, I was blown away at how effortless this swing was and how much more accurate the ball flight was. So the next day I had to get to the driving range and see how this worked with full swings for all of my clubs.
    I spent 2 hours on the driving range and I found out that this swing technique works great with all of my clubs. I was striking the balls with less effort and getting 10 - 20 yards more distance with each club. And most all of the shots were landing so close to my target. My driver shots were 20 yards longer and much more straighter. I couldn't believe the results I was getting. I will be heading to the course in a few days to try this out.
    I am a mid handi-capper with a driver swing speed around 95, so I'm always trying to improve my game. This swing technique could really be what I needed!

    This just unlocked an entirely new understanding of the swing for me. Have always wondered why folks look so good swinging a baseball bat or an axe and look silly with a club. This is why.     You guys are incredible. Wow… I’m working on some more rotational or horizontal force swings but I’m a jumper for sure, how do you hit draws with this pattern? Would be a great video explaining only your system and cuts or draws and not comparing to vertical extension patterns because it starts to muddy the water for us youtubers i think lol but anyway thank you guys so so much! You are absolutely the best!

    As an engineer, this is the swing content I'm looking for! Understandable for me. I struggle with vertical elevation a lot as a new golfer, and I have actually hit a few balls by lowering my hips and rotating through properly completely by accident. And when I did, I felt exactly what you described in this video. Glad to have learned that I was on the correct path. Now I have something to aim for.

      I agree. Good content but could have been put together better. Lot of rambling going on for most of the video. Tell the audience what you’re doing, demonstrate it, sum it up at the end in easy to communicate steps.

      @@redstone5149 we try to have a nice blend of longer videos (around 15-20 minutes) and shorter (6-9 minutes) and brief (shorts, TikTok, and insta (60 seconds or less) for different learning styles and preferences 🙏🙏

      I like the pacing so I don’t have to hit pause after each instruction. I can get a few practice swings in while you are elaborating. Any faster and I would have to put down the club, walk to the phone and pause. Keep it as is. The pros can just run it at 2x speed. 20 minutes is not too long for a new concept.

    Guys! I absolutely love this channel and the level of detail you go into in your videos. What I would like to put out there as a bigger/stiffer (ex sports and now age against me) player is, whilst it’s great and important that you demonstrate how these feels are mapped with an elite golfer, it does sometimes make it hard to relate when these moves seemingly come easy to a lighter, more agile player. It would be great to see the journey of someone of a more ‘average’ level of golf go through these sequences and then demonstrate tangible results. Not a hater and love the content. Just think it would appeal to the masses if we feel we can also do these rapid changes without being a D1 golfer 😊

    Hogan said (1940) he wanted he wanted to get the' driver parallel to the ground sooner' for a gradual incline followed by a levelish through swing before rising into the finish. I love how you qualified this point with the ax analogy. His more levelish bswing path evinced a more SUSTAINED horizontal vector --compared with your modeling--which ultimately matched up (through transition) with his LOW inside right ankle (per eversion) which is arguably THE cornerstone of his singular (ELITE) motion. It's unfortunate that GOATA so glibly pontificates as to optimal (ELITE) employment of anatomy...per their fetish of a HIGH INSIDE ANKLE. In general, the multiplanar spring matrices in the foot are recipients of forces that devolve upon the foot(from above) in such a way that the outer part is tasked with a stabilizing agency and is the lowest part of the foot. The inner, higher part which is the MOBILIZING element will 'fall' into place as it is pressed into service. My tiresome sermon ties into your theme of 'direction of force' which inextricably is linked to structure. Thanks for providing a forum for eccentrics like myself to chime in! I'm titilated to take in such depth of content. GODDABLESS!

    So interesting. I love your swing analogy and your explanation of force direction. One of my favorite books of all time is 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and your reference to proper maps reminds me of Franklin Covey explaining how important it is to know where you’re headed and to have proper maps of how to get there because otherwise you can spend years just aimlessly whacking your way through the jungle without ever achieving your destination. I’m learning so much from you. Great explanations and demonstrations. And you’re obviously having fun. Way to go guys! Keep up the great work! 😊

    My last comment may have sounded like I don't agree with the way you are saying to swing, but I actually agree with you here. I have been working on this same thing in my own swing.
    I just hear some of these comments made in videos sometimes, and the way it is said just isn't actually right, but you are right. If you are swinging down, you have to be careful not to hit the ground in the down swing.

    i was able to try it just doing some chipping and so far it seems quite valid. i'm now thinking of the golf action as a bit more linear and not up and down so much. like you say the swing arc and rotation kinda happen anyway. thnx for the help.

    Been working with an instructor on this type of swing, but ive been having some problems with getting flippy and standing up like you talked about early on. This I think will really help me get things in the right direction more often with a lot less thinking about it over the ball. Some practice swings indicated as much. I will have to give this a shot at my range session today. Really like the forward swing thought

    ❤ hi Coach this is coming up and clearly explain my thinking about force direction, a lot of coaches try to pull up the grip to hit the ball and it will need to time how much to go down and how much and when to go up. That will be too hard under pressure . This is gold ❤

    Another elite video. It took me so long to understand to transition. I used to pull down my arm and swung down. It’s a level hit after you drop, level and horizontal turn

      This taught me as well. I think a lot of frustration golfers have trying to figure the Elite swing maps are loading heavy in backswing. I found if I loaded heavy it was automatically gonna be a pull down on downswing. Where is that early load suppose to go at the top? It has to be no load backswing then load on downswing. I went from a 5-7 handicap to whipping some serious ass.

    As a junior I was always told to lift the arms above the plane in order to generate a 2-plane swing. My ball striking got so much better when I just focused on letting the arms ride the turn.

    This really made me see the swing in completely different way. Totally cleaned up my inside take away. And simplified my thoughts. I had one question.     Took this to the course and the zip through the ball was amazing. Even with driver although did loose a couple right but complete operator error. Old “don’t go left” reaction crept in.
    Do you have a force direction driver session?

    Complicated but Very interesting concept. Came across this after a poor round after backswing rotation issues. Tried this backwards force motion at home and seemed to unlock the beast with my foam balls. By arms & body moving more in the upward pressure, my body is struggling to move without tension in muscle & hips. Moving level force back & forward, I feel lot more loose on backswing & quicker speed on the downswing.

    Fascinating. This is one of those videos I’ll need to save and watch a few times to really understand completely. Understanding and executing are two different things. It will take some practice and I like the slow motion training. Does your ball position change at all? I’m thinking not but think I should ask anyhow.

    It would be helpful to see each of you, swinging the way you’re instructing us viewers to swing from a down-the-line view and a face-on view in real speed and in slow motion. We would see more of the swing you’re demonstrating and talking about and so it would be easier to emulate it through mirroring.

    Riley - This is a wonderful further explanation of the online lesson I just got from you. It was almost like you were talking to me. For the first time I get that the purpose of the hip drop is to get your spine at the requisite angle to allow you to make a "level" hit with your arms. I now have a much better understanding of what I am trying to accomplish. Looking forward to working on this tomorrow. Also, thanks for adding the search function to your RUclips page.

      Interesting epiphany. I always thought of the upper body drop as a shallowing move. You look at it as getting a level hit.
      Voila! Two ways of saying the same thing. Definitely positive reinforcement.

      @@elitegolfschools I took some practice balls out to a nearby sports field this AM and tested your Force Direction concept against my head full of theories about why I am a terrible golfer.
      Grab a coffee and have a seat. I found out;
      1. You don't have to lift your arms. Who Knew!
      2. The target is your target. A bit obtuse so; The swing force is along your target line both on the back and forward swing;
      3. My early extension wasn't. It was actually a late upper body drop.
      4. Your body rotation is not made better by thinking about how much to turn.
      When you finish your coffee, take a bow!

    love all your videos , i try to find how you control your impact with the wrist . please do one video with this. I watched TJ hold bowed wrist from the start of downswing until impact. Is this correct? do you release to cup after impact , at impact in the neutral? or bowed still? thanks so much for your lessons

    Really good!! I just couldnt match my lead wrist, because in backswing it go kinda up and a bit cupped, but it's hard to "manipulate" it back to this more level hit, any suggestions?

    This is awesome. I have been doing some of this naturally following your other tips, but a few questions I have is
    a) how much (if at all) do we want to feel like we are holding onto the face or delaying the release (maybe I mean keep stable)
    b) are we also swinging the center of mass the same going forward as we do the level hit, similar to how we were throwing it towards the camera in the backswing?

      For many it feels almost the opposite of “holding the face.” But it really does depend on the pattern in particular

    When showing how to apply lateral force in the backswing you advise TJ to rotate and then move the COM (or head of the axe) laterally but in the forward swing your focus appears to be on an initial level movement of the arms (rather than the COM/axe head) and letting the body respond/support the motion. In the event that I have this right - should we focus on applying force to the COM in the forward swing as well. Seems to me that this would help the club whip through impact. ?????

      Yes great question! And most definitely we need to apply force in the COM of the club through the strike. Just be mindful of directionality of force when doing so ❤

    Under playing pressure l couldnt get the club back far enough to add trail side throw. I just went back to my spinout low pull hook.
    I'm a believer but need a drill to identify when l block the back swing. Next I'll try to focus on the bounce back when the club reaches maximum height to see if that works under game pressure.
    If there is another drill to achieve that position I'm all ears.

    Great video… question… we’ve learned in this video the swing is not vertical… but is it truly horizontal? Is it not a combination of both ( normal / perpendicular ) to the plane your spine sets in the drop?

      The hit will be perpendicular to the spine for hitters. The more a player drops the more this happens in the swing

    When you talk about shoulder flexion causing the arms to rise, does the scapula rise as well? Or does the scapula stay down in a neutral position and just the arms go up?

      Elevation and depression of the scap does happen to some degree but definitely prefer most players not actively perform that act 🙏

      Oh man, not exactly a simple answer to type out. In short, the trail wrist works from extension to flexion through the strike, which leverages the clubhead “behind” the arms in transition, and shoots the clubhead “in front” of the arms into finish 👍

    Very interesting concept and it makes good sense. The forward swing makes more sense...easier to see. But how are you applying horizontal force in the backswing? When you told TJ to shoot force straight at you, he did that with no rotation, so the energy had to come from the shoulders/arms, right? otherwise he'd fall forward. When you told him to turn his midline and then shoot energy back to the camera, where was the force energy coming from? Chest? Shoulders/arms? TJ reacted like it was a very different feel, so I'm really curious. Still trying to spiral up and away and use the ribs and chest to power the arms going back. Thanks for the help--love your content!

      Pivot the chest first, then send the arms level and away. This makes a lot of things happen naturally… 🤔 🌀

    Good video, but questions for sure. In all swings from DL, You see arms rise above the shaft plan line if marked on video... So from that angle with 2 D camera you see a lift, or rise of the arms to the top. Would you agree? If so, then they must lower back to the shaft plane prior to impact for solid contact. It appears that you suggest to lower the body, thus the sternum, and NOT lower the arms, then the concept is to direct lateral force forward... I get that, but lowering the body is an alternate way of lowering the arms or getting the arms on the shaft plane, and to measure body lowering seems problematic. Any thoughts on this?

      Yep! Love those thoughts! And truly, there is going to be some amount of extension in the shoulders through the hit. It’s more the intention we are speaking to here as well as the limits to extension in the shoulders. Key is not throwing extension in shoukd re immediately in transitionary phase

    One question: in other videos you have discussed the importance of ulnar deviation in unlocking the necessary lowering of the clubhead plane. Any tips on how to recognize/match whether ulnar or spine perpendicularity to the ball (to unlock this arm pattern) is the right place to start/focus?

    Cool video my coach Milo uses the swing set analogy a lot, but your use was slightly different. By the way Milo’s swing is probably the best example of not needing shoulder flexion as he has almost none and I’ve never seen anyone his size hit it farther or better.

    Mind blown! Here is a question. If one map is swing down and body moves opposite direction to counter it (down) when you think of forward swing does body move back / away from target? Just curious all the feels … thanks!

      In some regards yes, and you’ll see that from larger energy swings (driver). We discuss this in our driver video discussing the three main forces in the golf swing as well as our driver vs wedge swing video 🙏❤️

      Hula hoop is simply lateral movement. Still love seeing that action as a preference. We are simply discussing force direction in the arms in this particular video.

    A really interesting take on the so-called squat move advocated by many top golf coaches. However, your student is clearly a very accomplished golfer who was able to understand the concept and moreover, put it into practice remarkably quickly. How would a 10-18 handicapper fare I wonder?

    Very Interesting Video. Thank you. If you lower the torso rather than the arms, why wouldn’t you assume that lowered position through out. The answer I guess is you’re not using the ground. But if you’re using the ground on the through swing I.e. pushing up & away, wouldn’t you have to lower your arms?

      The spine goes into extension in transition so many have to feel an active drop to offset this 🙏

    Now I understand, not to lift up but swing back image. But I have a detailed question. Can u give a optimal hand level of active swing back in clock system? More and more active back swing like to the 10 o’clock hand level will give me more power but it will ruin my consistency.
    I guess active back swing thought to 8 o’clock level is fine. What is your best suggestion. Thank you.😂(I asked u this with hand level because it is easiest way to describe active swing back level. I do swing with your chest engine system😅)

      It will definitely depend on the amount of energy… take a look at energy of a wedge compared to driver. They look fairly different from one another 👍

    This is a concept I have felt in my good swings, but never dissected it like you have here. Very interesting, but a lot more to unpack also. For example, you don’t push a swing parallel to the ground, it’s is pushed on a slightly downward angle. That leads to questions like, a) when is the proper timing of the initial force generation, and b) on exactly what line/angle/heading should the force be directed? After all, there are 180° on either side (forward and back) force can be directed towards 🤔🧐

      @@cdunne1620please define “low level,” because I think you mean that one can’t ask detailed (low level) questions about a broad (high level) theory…macro vs micro 🧐 If so, that’s exactly how any hypothesis is either proven or disproven. Not to mention, vagueness in golf instruction is a big reason most players never get better. “Pivot back and through in the golf swing” is high level, but I’d bet dollars to donuts that you ask 100 golfers what that means and you’ll get 100 different answers. I’m a fan of the mechanics that Elite Golf School promotes, mainly because they get into the details. Would be nice to dig into the specifics with this idea as well 🤓

I see so many people asking about minute details which really is impossible to answer meaningfully when we all interpret and understand words slightly differently.
