At least that kept you warm, perseverance is. the name of the game, but me? I would probably gone home!!!! think I may have stayed just to watch your antics with the net. Thanks again Jon for the fantastic videos keep em coming.
👏👏👏👏 what an absolute legend you are. Get out and fish while you can 'cos when you get older you'll have to rely on films like this for your angling fix. Thanks and all the best. 👍
I can't believe that you had to break the ice before you started fishing, so what happened to be quite before you get near your swim , totally mad ! Well l hope you enjoyed your day fishing, good luck and keep smiling Rich W Ely UK ( in the warm) 😮😊
Hi Jon i am next to my fire at home after being out fishing a match, i have just enjoyed watching you enjoy yourself and i am now showered and changed waiting for the football on telly and i will tell you now it wont be as entertaining as watching you breaking the ice, well done and thanks for the video ,i think you deserve a glass of your favourite tipple.
Thought for a minute the matcn was going to be cancelled, yet all the hard work paid off in the end. Super effort, great weight and match result ...well done
Better than the keystone cops. Nobody enjoyed match fishing more than me, but there's no way zid have done that - and I've chased pole sections half a mile downstream
God i remember fishing winter leagues in those conditions on my local canal circuit ....we must of been bonkers .....it defibately sorts the men from the boys ......well done mate
I was watching that Tarantino film "Once upon a time in Hollywood" recently, & it reminded me that what you really need Jon, is a friggin' great flame thrower on such days. Still, wouldn't be the same without the annual ice breaking vid!
Really great result in those conditions, Jon. I don't know how you keep the feeling in your hands in that temperature. You know it's REALLY cold when your hole freezes up!!
Wow… I am staggered anybody caught a single fish let alone many.. I’d of thought the barrage of sledgehammers and things at the start would of scared the living daylights out of the fish… if I was wearing one I’d take my hat off to you for braving those conditions but then that’s what makes professionals “professional” great vid as usual I’ll gloss over the landing net hand glitch 🤣😂🤣
Brrrrrrr, makes me feel cold just watching you Jon. You did well though considering how thick the ice was and I can imagine how cold you felt by the time you had finished fishing mate, well done 👍
I had tears in my eyes watching you breaking the ice and nearly losing your landing net and handle. Full Respect for perseverance in getting a fish-able swim. Well done Jon. Good result 4th overall. What is the name of your team? Cheers
It's been a few years since I have been on a winter league match. But on those occasions where we had to break the ice we just cut two lines in the ice about 10ft apart by see sawing the ice with about 6 to 8ft of chain connected between the rope and the heavy weight. The section left floating in the middle gets pushed to one side under the ice sheet. No messing about with the landing net trying to scoop ice fragments out of the way.
🤣 I don't whisper, I just don't talk loud. It's more out of consideration and awareness of adjacent anglers than scaring fish. However, once all the commotion of ice breaking's done by everyone, it makes sense to be quiet so they can settle in front of you.
Hi Jon. Now that is what I would define as keen! Just out of interest why do they not have aerators to help keep the ice at bay particularly when they are running winter league matches
It's best to leave them off as that 'super chills' the water top to bottom and the fishing will be awful. However, on an extreme day like this I would have preferred the aerators on and take my chances
Great video Jon. You should get yourself a cheap telescopic landing net handle for ice work. Can you enlighten me what your ice pusher is made of please? Thanks
I have several old handles I use for the job and a tele one is definitely best, but couldn't find it. I just use old handles whenever I have lying around! Taping it would've been better had I more time and if it was a touch less cold
I admire your dedication but surprised the men in white coats didn't arrive to cart you off to the nearest mental hospital :) Enjoyed watching from the comfort of my very warm room.
The one I use the most for fishing at the mo is the Matrix Ethos XR Power 3.5m Landing Net handle. The one that came apart was an old one I just use for silly jobs like ice shifting! If Im just using Short Kits I sometimes use the new Aquos 3m instead.
I thought , This has to be one of those Ai videos that are popping up to often on RUclips 🤔..Seriously now Jon .You all need locking up 😂 Unbelievable 🎣
Stark staring mad, all of you.
The incredible desire to fish! Even the ice can't stop a true angler!
A stealth like approach really works 😂
At least that kept you warm, perseverance is. the name of the game, but me? I would probably gone home!!!! think I may have stayed just to watch your antics with the net. Thanks again Jon for the fantastic videos keep em coming.
Wow! That was thick ice, love the landing net entertainment and comedy music.
Love the landing net coming apart! We’ve all been there. Thanks for sharing Jon.
Brilliant weights for -6 mind, well done all 👏👏
Realy enjoyed that Jon. Sitting on my couch, behind a nice warm fire. Thnx.
Still the very best at fishing and filming, keep um coming and we'll keep liking..... Well done ❤️
👏👏👏👏 what an absolute legend you are. Get out and fish while you can 'cos when you get older you'll have to rely on films like this for your angling fix. Thanks and all the best. 👍
That’s exactly where I am right now lol 😢
Totally agree
I remember doing the same thing when I was younger. I must have been bloody mad!
you just needed to add the Benny Hill theme music to the first section Jon
I can't believe that you had to break the ice before you started fishing, so what happened to be quite before you get near your swim , totally mad ! Well l hope you enjoyed your day fishing, good luck and keep smiling Rich W Ely UK ( in the warm) 😮😊
A "Gold" award for all that effort ! Great video !
I love it when you show that the experts get it wrong breaking ice and using a landing net lol, great video
Arthur of the Arctic...
Fair play Jon a great days fishing in them conditions, laughed so much when your landing net handle broke i am sorry 😂 well done mate 🥶
That Jon was the best 5 mins 48 secs of any video you’ve ever done !!!!!!!!
It's mad the lengths we go to just to out the way of the missus 😂😂😂 Well-done Jon cracking weight given the weather lol
I admire your dedication to the sport. I on the other hand would have thrown a sicky on that one.
Thought for a minute the matcn was going to be cancelled, yet all the hard work paid off in the end.
Super effort, great weight and match result ...well done
Madness comes to mind. Nice to be out i guess. You can't beat the outdoors.
Fair play to you. I would have gone home first chuck of that weight😂. If I'd gone at all. Some say Brave...others would use other phrases 😂
Now that's dedication!! Or is it insanity???? 🤔🤔🤔😂🤣🎣🎣 fairplay to you all
Had to break ice on our local pond today, not quite that thick though. 3 hrs fishing: 12 F1s and around 15 silvers - great afternoon 👍
I hugely enjoyed sitting here in front of my fire watching that on my phone.
You are a braver man than i Jon, my lungs dont take well to the cold these days. Well done on chugging through it bud.
Amazing considering it was frozen well done 👍
At least you had some help with the ice breaking, good match Jon
Great video! Now that’s dedication fishing 😊
Omg bet u was kernackered after that 😝
Done it myself a few times this past wk or so. Only diff is i didnt catch 🤣🤣

Hell that ice was thick, you did very well after all that disturbance, good weights in the freezing cold, Thank you,
Oh Jon, have a day off mate. This is silly! I love your videos.
Amazing video 🤩, big up from Greece 🇬🇷
Thanks Jon for bring me my fix i dont fish at all in the winter but this helps me not miss being on the bank as much.
This is amazing fishing in really difficult circumstances , you are brilliant but mad ! lol
Better than the keystone cops. Nobody enjoyed match fishing more than me, but there's no way zid have done that - and I've chased pole sections half a mile downstream
Cold one that! Wow how thick was that ice. Well done for 4th 🙌🏼🙌🏼🎣🎣
Blimey…..brrr!! Impressive stuff.
Bonkers 😂 be better walking across and cutting a hole in it!
God i remember fishing winter leagues in those conditions on my local canal circuit ....we must of been bonkers .....it defibately sorts the men from the boys ......well done mate
Comedy gold this 😂😂😂
Great result Jon.

Absolute dedication jon boy or madness not quite sure 😂
Well done Jon great effort, great fishing and even a comedy section. Good result with them conditions 🎣👍🥶
Great result in such trying conditions, all that ice breaking id be too exhausted to fish well done
Brrrrrrr, makes me feel cold just watching you Jon. You did well though considering how thick the ice was and I can imagine how cold you felt by the time you had finished fishing mate, well done 👍

Team Dynamite
Awesome video Jon and real dedication well done
Making me cold watching 🥶
Impressive stuff John 💪
Started off a bit like Laurel and Hardy. Just waiting for one to go in with rope wrapped around ankle.
Keen or insane, the jury is out on this 😂
Thats called dedication👍 If my peg looked like this I would probably go home😂
It's been a few years since I have been on a winter league match. Yep that’s the usual way with your ‘normal ice’ up to an inch… but impossible when it’s over 2in thick, you just have to chip away at it.
Does make me laugh, whispering after all that beforehand. 😂
🤣 I don't whisper, I just don't talk loud. It's more out of consideration and awareness of adjacent anglers than scaring fish. However, once all the commotion of ice breaking's done by everyone, it makes sense to be quiet so they can settle in front of you.
10/10 for commitment to fishing Jon. Did you have any BOVRIL???
Can’t believe you fished in that dedication 👏🏻

Nightmare start there, I'd have gone home 10 minutes in to the ice breaking.
Tha must be mad jon fishing in that
I'm feeling cold just watching this Jon. 😅
You obviously learned nothing from your winters on the canal!😂
This is beyond keen
Great video Jon. You should get yourself a cheap telescopic landing net handle for ice work.
Can you enlighten me what your ice pusher is made of please? Thanks
I have several old handles I use for the job and a tele one is definitely best, but couldn't find it. I just use old handles whenever I have lying around! Taping it would've been better had I more time and if it was a touch less cold
I felt cold just watching the video Fortunately for me I live and fish in the south of France
I admire your dedication but surprised the men in white coats didn't arrive to cart you off to the nearest mental hospital :) Enjoyed watching from the comfort of my very warm room.
Bet you slept well that night ?? Cheers Jon.
Venue : Tunnel Barn Funny Farm, Screwlooseley , Warwickshire
All nutters welcome 😂
Top knotch that looked a tad cold
Would a few drops of glycerine have stopped the elastic sticking in the end of the pole?
that keeps crossing my mind but I don't know if it'd ultimately knacker your top kits or elastic?
Would you agree that piling all that ice up to your left, ruined your margin swim ???? 😀
🤣
Crazy
Chesties and a chainsaw weather😂
😂😂😂
MAD. 😂😂
Sod that a worth it
Hello Jon, that's a tuff match in those conditions, can I ask what landing net handle you use please.
The one I use the most for fishing at the mo is the Matrix Ethos XR Power 3.5m Landing Net handle. The one that came apart was an old one I just use for silly jobs like ice shifting! If Im just using Short Kits I sometimes use the new Aquos 3m instead.
Great novel methods
I'm cold just watching
never seen this side of fishing.. think ill leave it to everyone else lol also what is cat ice?
very thin ice
@ cheers pal thanks for replying. tight lines sir
Brave man
Which lake at tunnel is this?
Why are you whispering after the racket you made ?😅
(ice-breaking that is!!)
when its that thick i found breaking it gradually from the inside out is best
I thought , This has to be one of those Ai videos that are popping up to often on RUclips 🤔..Seriously now Jon .You all need locking up 😂 Unbelievable 🎣
Do we all associate using Bread just in winter? Why not all year round?
Desperate or what 😮😮 great angling skills though
Nice one jon.
We really are mad 😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣
bonkers
Not worth the hassle
Just no 😂😂😂
Why would you.
Paul Holland said thanks Jon 😆
I know 🤣
