    I was watching that Tarantino film "Once upon a time in Hollywood" recently, & it reminded me that what you really need Jon, is a friggin' great flame thrower on such days. Still, wouldn't be the same without the annual ice breaking vid!

  • @chrisp1958

    Wow… I am staggered anybody caught a single fish let alone many.. I’d of thought the barrage of sledgehammers and things at the start would of scared the living daylights out of the fish… if I was wearing one I’d take my hat off to you for braving those conditions but then that’s what makes professionals “professional” great vid as usual I’ll gloss over the landing net hand glitch 🤣😂🤣

    It's been a few years since I have been on a winter league match. But on those occasions where we had to break the ice we just cut two lines in the ice about 10ft apart by see sawing the ice with about 6 to 8ft of chain connected between the rope and the heavy weight. The section left floating in the middle gets pushed to one side under the ice sheet. No messing about with the landing net trying to scoop ice fragments out of the way.

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  2 дня назад +1

      Yep that’s the usual way with your ‘normal ice’ up to an inch… but impossible when it’s over 2in thick, you just have to chip away at it.

  • @lincslegend6936
    @lincslegend6936 12 дней назад +1

    Does make me laugh, whispering after all that beforehand. 😂

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  2 дня назад

      🤣 I don't whisper, I just don't talk loud. It's more out of consideration and awareness of adjacent anglers than scaring fish. However, once all the commotion of ice breaking's done by everyone, it makes sense to be quiet so they can settle in front of you.

    Hi Jon. Now that is what I would define as keen! Just out of interest why do they not have aerators to help keep the ice at bay particularly when they are running winter league matches

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  2 дня назад

      It's best to leave them off as that 'super chills' the water top to bottom and the fishing will be awful. However, on an extreme day like this I would have preferred the aerators on and take my chances

    Can you enlighten me what your ice pusher is made of please? Thanks

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  2 дня назад

      I have several old handles I use for the job and a tele one is definitely best, but couldn't find it. I just use old handles whenever I have lying around! Taping it would've been better had I more time and if it was a touch less cold

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  2 дня назад

      The one I use the most for fishing at the mo is the Matrix Ethos XR Power 3.5m Landing Net handle. The one that came apart was an old one I just use for silly jobs like ice shifting! If Im just using Short Kits I sometimes use the new Aquos 3m instead.
