Jon always love watching you fish jus5 the right amount of chat! Plus I'm reallyloving the extra information your fishng on depth and such things keep up the great vids keep the faith
Well fished Jon when you were not catching Carp. I just think that fishing Silver Fish qualifiers should be held on Lakes where the predominant species are NON Carp.I makes it such a lottery. I know it affects all the anglers. You might as well draw the qualifiers from a hat. I think one way to equalize the competition is to count all Carp as 1Lb. Anyway you did your usual covering all eventualities to try and be competitive which you did. Thanks for another very good Video. Cheers
I think there's a lot said for carp counting as something. Id make it 4oz, so they don't completely dominate but are still worth getting in and not over decisive. Yes each year I say to myself we shouldn't be doing silvers matches til several frosts and November at the earliest. Needs to be colder!
HI Jon tough day at the office, and the conditions didn`t help either and probably no silvers going to settle with so many carp about but good application and whats more i enjoyed the video, thanks .
Very best of luck with it all. Nothing to be anxious about. Just pick the right venues and enjoy your fishing. Treat the days that you don't catch much as learning days for the next one. All the very best!
Fantastic video as always Jon, you played a blinder in that match, it's just a shame that it was a silvers only match otherwise you might of placed better with the carp you had mate 👍
thats busy busy fishin john, trying this that and something else, see what works best, and trying to sort the minnows from the sharks, fishing is hard work if you do it right, and you managed that, so well played.regards mick.
great fishing jon good weight from a carp dominated peg are the sun glasses you have normal or prescription if prescription do you use a certain shop that specialises in fishing glasses thanks top man top angler
Seems a bit daft to have a silverfish qualifier before the carp go off the feed in the colder months. So many fish with hooks and line left in them. Why not at least count carp as a few ounces?
The venue is an old quarry and where I drew is where the old lake was and the extension begins, so the pegs to my left are much shallower too. The lake's really varied in depth and no flat spots anywhere in front if me, just getting deeper to my right. Wish Id gone into even deeper water in hindsight and might've found a couple more skimmers but conditions werent ideal. Maybe could've chucked a little feeder that way?
If you are trying to avoid carp Jon why do you use such a strong fishmeal groundbait? Wouldn't you be better off with it at least half silverfish based gb?
My mix actually isn't that high in fishmeal, believe it or not, and in my experience on commercials savoury mixes are only good for roach. Sonubaits F1 is actually quite a mellow mix. Skimmers want the same stuff carp want, especially the bigger skimmers. It's what they are conditioned to eat in a commercial fishery.
Thanks for the reply Jon. I'm always a bit wary of fishmeal in my commercial silvers mixes but I'll give it a go and try your mix in my silvers matches 🙂
@JonArthur great fishery tho isn't it Jon I love match fishing but like you I also like a mix and the pike fishing is good there on both greenhills and mitre pool
Used to love fishing Marshes 2 - I recall once I had 7 different species in succession. Variety is the spice of life.
Yes there's often a few baby crucians about too

I fished Ok but not good enough and the best angler went through. Interestingly he caught on casters short on the deeper roadside bank

Shame you didn't have the skimmers on the deep line where you put the groundbait in. What you'd need for a win there I would reckon
Yes just one more skimmer there would've been enough. Maybe I should've gone even longer or chucked a tip that way?

It would be nice if they counted as 4oz or something for sure. Thankfully as its barbless hooks the fish can get rid of them pretty swiftly.
How can there be so much variation in depth all over the peg/lake? Did they use dynamite when they dug it out? 😂

Ehup jon can you let us know what you put on your maggots to make them go that red mate?
Sensate red powder? Smells funny but fish like it.
Nothing! They just come that red from my two most local shops, Lanes and Ace Tackle
Never used it tbh

Bloody nuisance carp 😂😂😂
Yup!

Don't understand why they have silver fish matches on lakes stuffed with carp.
Its just a shame they were extra active on the day, but yes a month later in the year would've made more sense on this lake
