In my opinion you are are in the top six alround all anglers in the county, I fished for goole avengers back in the day so seen the best, your up there Jon great videos
Thanks for that. I try my best but there’s some mighty anglers out there who are much more skilful than me. It’s nice to occasionally beat some of them though! 😬
Cheers for your continued efforts and displaying it for us all to learn from. Appreciate the 10 min spell on the waggler to show even legends can be human!!! 👏👏👏
Well done indeed Jon. I love your videos as you 'speak what you think'. That I find very useful. Have not match fished now for over 40 years and never on a commercial, rivers and drains in the day....so learn each time I watch you. Thank you......and a stick...lol
You worked it out today Jon as you almost always do , sometimes god doesn't always win, couldn't win overall but you got the lake good result . Times have changed , roach missing but bream biting on a cold day , as you forecast, no secrets here , an education for all matchmen, and me also. Pity no canal matches dave brown did some great videos but not for a good while
nice one jon another great vlog, you are really spoiling us two vlogs.....thanks for this jon another great insight how you go about fishing your match
Eh up stick magnet. Great result. I had a Robin come on my side tray helping itself to micros - when there was live maggots in the next tub! Bizarre 👍🍺🍌
Well it is times like this l am glad l got the shakes , as I do remember sitting on the bank freezing my bit's off and having to get my to help me out of my coat and shoes as I had lost all feeling in my fingers ! But well done Jon as I am sure you could catch a monster in a muddy puddle.
Great video Jon and top marks for grinding out a win. Shame that match fishng has lost so much of its following though. Back in the golden days of the 1970s, Angling Times wouldn't publish results unless there were at least 80 competing. Yet the match results pages were always full. Winter leagues were always 120 peggers and usually had a few teams waiting to join up. An 80 peg match seems like a big deal now.
@@JonArthur Back in the 80s I had an idea for a big payout season -long system based on handicapping pegs. Each peg given a target weight based on past match results (constantly monitored and updated). The angler to get points based on a percentage of the target achieved. Too difficult to control based on the tech available at the time. Easy now with phone cameras and instant comms. Back then there were millions of match anglers. Now it's a lack of numbers of entrants that makes it unattractive. ( I'm 80 next month and most of the others have snuffed it !). Maybe a compy like that could revive a resurgence in the numbers ? After all everyone gets bad draws, but with a smaller weight to aim at it gives the incentive to beat the peg, not the rest of the field. Over the course of the season the luck should even out. The other problem now of course is that matches are mainly on commercials rather than rivers. So the fish can turn up anywhere while that bush on the canal that holds all the chub or the weedbed with all the carp doesn't figure in many results any more
@JonArthur I know what you mean I was at Packington yesterday with that clod wind blowing across me it wasn't great the F1s didn't seem to mind tho 🎣🎣🎣
Maggots will keep easily for a week. The deads are just half/quarter pint of each so not that dear if I don’t use them a week later. It’s only a pint of micros wetted up and groundbait will keep the next day but I’d rather use fresh any longer than that. All the dry pellets are simply rebagged so not a lot of wastage really.
I'm the same with that pesky waggler.. When everyone else is hiding under a brolly.. That's when I break out the waggler with a couple of Dendro's on the hook. Won me more sections than I can count on big open water venues...🤣
Only for longer feeder, bomb and waggler hooklengths as it doesn’t spin so much. Prefer suppleness and greater strength of mono for pole fishing and ties nicer
Thanks so much for this Stephen. Only just caught up with all my comments after a hectic couple of weeks, but it’s very much appreciated and if there’s anything I can do or answer please let me know. Have a great week. It’s bitterly cold out there, but I’ve got some projects I’m itching to film if only things would warm back up again!
@@JonArthuryour welcome Jon, I just wish I could of afforded to give more but money didn't allow it, I can understand it taking you a bit of time to reply to your comments because of what you have to do with not only running your own RUclips channel but your other commitments both at home and in your role as a consultant. If I have any questions to ask you or anything you could do I will let you know. Hope the weather improves soon so you can do the video's and ideas you have planned, good luck with them and look forward to seeing all your planned videos you have a great week too

Excellent fishing Jon. Enjoyed watching the video. Long may the winning streak continue.

The lure of the waggler, even when it’s not right ha ha
What a way to grind out a very good Lake Win. Well done Jon, another very instructive video. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it Peter
Nice to see all the details of the pole rigs and be able to compare them.
Glad you like them!

Silly robin! Maybe it thought it was the vegan option? I had some chaffinches eating my maggots once and they were only taking the white ones!

Absolutely. You barely see any results in print any more, too, but social media is so instant now

Cracking days fishing for the time of year Jon bet your glad its warming up now tho
It ‘was’ warming up… bitter and two hard frosts now! 🥶

Well done Jon
Thanks for watching Sean
I think all the comments below sum it Jon. Great performance
Many thanks. Try my best 👍🐟🐟
Thanks Jon , another great video. What length hook length do you use when pole fishing? Thanks
Depends really but if in doubt I go with 6in (15cm) and maybe 4in for shy biting fish or delicate baits like expanders.
Well won Jon
Cheers Pete
Well done Jon, I think I would have given up after the first hour and a half
Some days it’s best to try and salvage a day by just getting bites
Well done jon
Thanks for watching
Hi John just wanted to ask, you have quite a bit of bait there, are you able to preserve it for other matches.

GZ john - do you ever use fluorocarbon hooklengths ?
Only for longer feeder, bomb and waggler hooklengths as it doesn’t spin so much. Prefer suppleness and greater strength of mono for pole fishing and ties nicer
nice use of the best way to remove peel, lol

Thanks well done Jon on the win, now go and treat yourself to some freddos to celebrate
