- ASMR Restoration of a large, rusty adjustable wrench. Watch this incredible transformation with mirror polishing!
Today, I will do a perfect restoration of a high quality 15" Armstrong adjustable wrench. This tool is made in USA. I love to restore high quality old tools that will have a long service life when they are complete.
I began by cleaning the wrench first with engine degreaser, then an acid rust remover known as "naval jelly". After cleaning, there was still some rust left. I cleaned the remaining rusty surfaces with wire wheels in a drill, and a wire brush. Next time I would like to try to vinegar rust removal, or electrolysis.
Once the wrench was cleaned, I wanted to make all of the edges of the tool smooth and defect free. I used several different types of files and alot of sanding to achieve this. At the end of the restoration, almost every surface was smooth.
After i fixed all of the defects, i moved on to mirror polishing the jaws. Steel is difficult to polish compared to other metals, so this tool a long time. I started by leveling the surface with 80 grit sand paper, then worked all the way up to wet sanding with 2000 grit. I then used a polishing wheel and two different compounds to achieve a mirror blank finish.
I decided to paint the handle with rustoleum truck bed-liner spray paint as I like the slightly textured finish and it is quite durable. I also like the look of the black paint paired with the polished steel surfaces.

Not another wrench 😉

The question is what can you do to make your videos better, easier restore and look after your health. To start that pink goo is dangerous, vinegar would have made your like easier and is harmless to the skin and lungs, which is less rust dust in the air and lastly the volume when the power tools are used, you can lower the volume during power tool use, other than that great restore and great video.
@@Titanykus You are correct. Check out my bahco restoration, I used no harsh chemicals and I lowered the audio levels. Thanks for the feedback!

Thumbs up to you buddy. Can you restore a power tool? If you haven’t yet. But I’ll check your vids.
I have plenty of items to restore just a lack of time. I hope in the near future to restore something with some electrical components.
No music. No talking. Just a relaxing satisfying experience watching these restorations.
That was flippin’ amazing. The truck bed liner paint was a stroke of genius. You have one very happy new subscriber here.
Much cheaper to buy a new one. Even if your time is worthless. Elon musk wouldn't even take a second glance at it. His time is worth a lot.
Really liked the bedliner idleal 2 protect the handle
This looks nice. That bed liner will rub off though. Need to spray DTM (Direct To Metal) or self etching spray on before the bed liner and it'll guarantee a solid bond
I have sprayed bedliner on multiple metal tools and have never had a problem with it coming off.
I never thought of the bed liner. It makes sense because it gives you cushion and a good grip and also makes a nice contrast to the polished surfaces. Great restoration! New subscriber!
Same here!
Fantastic transformation I don’t think a Armstrong Wrench Has never looked so good :-)
Great idea using bed liner for paint!
You rescued that old neglected wrench and prepared it fir another lifetime of service. Excellent work!
That was amazing! Not a lot of youtube restoration channels delivers this perfect result! That was extremely satisfying, thank you 😍😍😍
Thanks for watching!
am i the only one thinking that wrench was perfectly fine to begin with?
Nope. Was perfect.
That coating wasn't rust it was a patina which is what happens when steel ages, this coating does no harm and actually protects the tool from rust. All he did was make it pretty but vulnerable to rust.
Savages! Must be diesel techs. Shmh
Amazing Job! Looks really good!
Nicely done. I really liked using spray on bedliner on tools.
This is a beautiful restoration. It really shines. But you should read this: Bluing (steel)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. This is even more beautiful than paint.
I am doing some bluing on my latest project!
I just restored some of my old tools. I bought a new ones..😂😂😂.
Nice job 👍 bro... you touch the metal with love, and elegance...
Great restoration!
You don't get better work than that! Excellent 🧡
Damn, that looks so good I don't want to use it, I want to frame it!
That's what I call a mirror polish. Great work....
Not an easy task working with steel!
Came out super nice
My restoration of that wrench:
1) Spray WD-40 into adjustment knob.
2) Turn knob back and forth to work WD-40 into all crevices.
3) Cool, it works great again!
That would be acceptable too lol
Armstrong made good tools, you make perfect tools!
Cleaned it up better than the day it was made.. good job
Nice work dude 😍😍
Abraço aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
Excellent job congratulations 👍👈💯
Some people are like this wrench....they have a beautiful shiny interior below the rough and rusty exterior. Some people just need help and encouragement to bring it out.
So bad it's not a wrench anymore 😕
It's a masterpiece!! Congrats!
this would be a FANTASTIC asmr video if all the hand filing was shown in real time and not sped up
Awesome job. Paint is looking gorgeus. Nice work.
For me, restoring an adjustable means spraying it with WD-40 so it doesn’t stick so bad. LOL. This is really cool
Amazing work! I loved every second of the video. Keep it up.
You are doing nicely bro keep it up..😍😍👍
All I can say is WOW! Your amazing
Very good 🤩👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful restoration .
I don't think it's called restoration if it ends up better than when it was new. It's called bettoration. It's a word!
Haha that could catch on!
Sempre più bravo!
Complimenti per il lavoro!!!
Mesmerizing. so carefully done.
Thanks for showing what materials you used most videos don't
Fabulous work!
He is a perfectionist restorer
I try!
@@SatisfyingRestorations wow you’re unbelievable👏🙌 keep it up 👍
Beautiful job for a beautiful tool. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great work, I inherited some older rusted tools from my father in-law and have been looking to restore a few of the more unique ones.
I have an old Harrington Richardson .22 target pistol, pre 1931. 9 shot top break.
A previous owner allowed it to rust, then took corse sand paper to it. A fine pistol, but abused. It needs this kind of care.
Gracias!
great video
Bravo!!!
Love the appreciation to detail
Wow awesome
Awesome video and what a great channel name! It was VERY satisfying to see the close up shots of the materials and textures along with the audio of the various processes and unique sounds that mechanical parts and tools make as you interact with them! Loved it! I also liked the choice applying the bed liner. What a great way to cover up some of the imperfections in the casted/forged metal. I imagine it actually will adhere better to the casted/forged metal since the surfaces are "rough" plus you didn't have to spend extra time and effort to smooth and polish the entire piece. Awesome, awesome job!
Thanks for watching! I have much respect for all of the restoration youtubers as it is an art to film and edit such complex videos.
Excellent job 👍
Salute ✊✊👏
Perfekt👍👍👍
very nice!
Beautiful work mate. You’ve won me. 🇦🇺👍
Thanks mate!
Beatiful restore sir 👍👍
Well-done man👌💯
I don't think the bed liner was a good idea for a wrench that could be used around oils but it does look nice. Beautiful polishing job.
Nice job!👍
Great work
Very nice job amigo .😎🇵🇷
great work
Very good job✨👌🏼👌🏼
Wow very cool
Would you not use a small bead blaster or similar to save a lot of time /effort. Nice work
It definately would save some time. I don't have a blasting cabinet yet.
Frikkin awesome 👌 💯 😍
This was oddly satisfying
Wow ! 😳👍🏻
You’re so good! Make more videos for us.
its unique
U've got mcgibber's approval!!!
Awesome
Thanks for watching!
Excelente trabajó 👍 mejor que nuevo 👌👍 . Desde Venezuela ciudad Maracaibo. Felicitaciones.
Wow! I've always had to hit those pin screws with a torch and heat them up before they will budge! Never seen one unscrew so easily.
The bahco I restored on this channel was almost impossible to remove! Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes it's a challenge.
good job good asmr
Very nice. I have a similar 12” wrench that the movable jaw jams and becomes very hard to move. What is the purpose of the little coil spring in the adjuster? That might be my problem.
Loved the bed liner! Maybe blue the non-polished bare metal parts. Just stay away from the bondo/filler as many restorers use!! New subscriber.
I would use bondo on a show piece, but never on a hand tool! Thanks for watching!
I don't see it needed restoring it was working fine as it was?
I like tinkering with stuff, but something like this wrench exceeds my limitations.
Super ❤️
Thanks for watching!

Say I wanted to just give wrench its original metal finish look after media blasting, what would be a good way to seal/prevent flash rust from occurring without painting the tool?
Tool wax or a light coating of oil. Most raw steel tools are coated in oil out of the box.
Very nicely done IF you can keep the paint on when using it. Powder coating with wrinkle finish would have been a better choice to keep the black finish for a lot longer. But using any type wrench will catch the scrapes and scratches over time. Thumbs Up!
You are correct. My goal was more of a show piece then a useable tool. The paint would not last long when actually putting the tool to use.
Holy Cow! I have a chest full of tools, are busy next weekend?
Haha! As long as they're rusty!
Hey man when you post video what catogory do you pick? Howto/Style?
Do you have a discount code for elbow grease? You seem to use quite a bit!
Fantastic work.
great camera. can you share what your using. ty
👏👏👏👏👏
Looks better than nuw.
👍👍
Have you tried muriatic acid instead of phosphoric acid for rust removal ? Works killer diller. Nice job on the resto, frame it dont use it !
I have not tried it yet. I want to try evaporust next, it looks to work pretty good.
one of the few who knows how to polish something! 👍🏼
Subscribe 😉
Thanks! Flatness and scratch removal is key before buffing!
Thats Right 👍🏼
GOOD ONE :D i subscribe
Thanks!
Why bother with rust remover if you were going to use a wire brush and drill on it anyway? Doesn't that make the rust remover a redundant step?
