I'm white, so I can't speak on the ownership kink thing with regards to Iris being biracial, but as a woman with learning and developmental disabilities... my face was 😬 every time it got brought up. Maybe it's just paranoia from being actually manipulated into situations I didn't want to be a part of, but someone relishing having that much perceived power over me makes my skin crawl
17:40 eughhhh if someone I was just meeting intentially tricked me into eating spicy food I'd never speak to them again lol. I can't handle spice at all.
Just commenting to increase engagement. I am generally not interested in reading the books you review, but I like watching your reviews. So thanks for doing what you do.
The opening song was such chillgroove vibes, i WISH i could play a backing bass and tambourine percussion along with you lmaoo. This one had me snickering multiple times while doing my grocery shop, the casual "you're welcome" for the forearms in particular got me. Thanks for the continued quality ✨️
Your comments on white authors writing bipoc characters were spot on. I think there's a bit more leeway with this in a fantasy setting, because then you probably don't have as many "real world" implications as far as race is concerned, and therefore aren't writing bipoc characters to have these super personal racial experiences. but you STILL HAVE TO TAKE PROPER CARE. **cough cough...looking at YOU, SJM** This is why sensitivity readers exist and why authors need to utilize the utter crap out of them. Intent doesn't matter. PS: Loved the intro!
About the forearms... the amount of kpop stans I've seen go feral over someone's hands is something else, so I'm concluding that you can probably zoom in on any picture of a human randomly and someone will have a *thing* for whatever body part you land on lol
OMG YES! I hate this book so much- first book was tolerable but this one? That one scene where he gets angry at her? HATE HIM. I haven't seen many people talk about how bad it is SO I'm gonna enjoy this lol
Wait, I swear I saw a friend say that Lauren Asher was Cuban? Or am I tripping? Hahaha I have a book from this authors other series out from the library and now I’m scared 😂 Also, the intro was so good!
You mention Becky Chambers and i lost my mind, her writing is incredible! Edit - I just finished Mile High, unexpectedly a POC MC whose black dad is the best and her white mum actually sucks. The POC LI ends up with a really cool reconciliation with his dad too. I'm white so obviously take this with a mountain of salt but it felt way better than usual
I've watched a fair number of your videos since I'm interested in booktube and watch a lot of booktube related videos. But that into... That intro finally convinced me to subscribe.
I have seen people talk about this series before, but since I haven't read them myself, I had no idea the main female characters were black and no one mentioned it! It could be that the women reviewing the books (they were all white, just happened that way for me) felt they didn't need to say or had forgotten it or maybe they just felt uncomfy bringing it up. Either way I love that you brought up white women writing black characters. As a writer myself, I don't mind but sometimes you can tell a white woman wrote the black character and... it's just not realistic. That's my biggest complaint.
I'm a white woman and just cringing at the owning thing 😬 I know that it can be pretty common for powerful men to want to be dominated, this would have been a great opportunity to write that story
I think its completely fair to hate certain kinks like some of you are nasty and ownership especially with POC is gross. I think its cool the main character has dyslexia, but sometimes i think they dont really look into how people who have things like dyslexia actually feel or live their life if that makes sense? Coming from someone with OCD who is also plus sized, I have never really found good rep for it, i think when they try to do it always feel flat. Also loved the becky chambers callout ❤️ i think we are getting a lot of alternating POVs and series where each one can be a standalone, but something about the Wayfarer series does it better than I have seen so far. have you read To Be Taught If Fortune by her too?
Amazing intro, "it's still better than Fourth Wing" got me 😂
Yeah I stand by that statement 😂
"There's sentences" 🙃 Books like this mean my personal WIPs will be outstanding.
I have no doubt in my mind they will be 💕
@@dontfretreadbooks My interpretation of your kind words will be 'my books are awesome' and not 'this woman's books are trash'. Thank you. 😂
@76kilosofshade81 that’s how I meant it 😂
"Frozen burrito of a book to me." I had a very mid frozen burrito yesterday and that tracks.
I’m sorry you went through that ❤️🩹

When 4th Wing is the low bar and a frozen burrito is the alternative, writing is really in a crisis. I love your vids btw❤

Yup love Becky Chambers. I prefer the monk and robot series but the Wayfarers is great too. Some of the best cozy fantasy/scifi I've read.

That would’ve been a JAM! Thanks for watching :)

Yeah but counter argument: nose hair.
@@ironicallynice I am NOT going to google this k*nk and just believe that it probably does and you feel free to believe that it doesn't lol
i'll be needing you to review every book with a song now; also, peep that keffiyeh!
the intro slapped 10/10 XD

I don't think I've ever seen a good billionaire romance.
Or a good billionaire..?

Best intro ever 😂
This sounds like such a wierd book thanks for your sacrifice lol
I was pretty strange. You’re welcome. I can’t say “my pleasure” cause that would be a lie.

I might be wrong but she looks very white. No need to be scared, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this other series.

Fun video with interesting insights. You should look for author Stacy James Meadows. Hope you have a great weekend. 👍
Oh my god I HATE this book with a passion. I could not believe so many people genuinely thought it was good enough to recommend to others.
LOL. Great opening song.
I’ve read one Becky Chamber’s book and it’s one of my all time favorite books (it’s the first book in the Wayfarer’s series).
I LOVE THAT ONE

First, every book should have a song. Second, I do not believe that you find me delightful. 🤪
I’ve enjoyed our interactions
@@dontfretreadbooks That comment was much funnier in my mind, but reading it back just sounds sad. Don't mind me.
I love that intro so don't even apologize bro!!
Thank you 😂 I was like “this is so stupid” so I’m glad people thought it was funny.
I’m begging, please read a good romance 😭 like Kennedy Ryan’s Hoops series or a song for Tia Williams’ A Song For Rickie Wilde
funny as hell intro

Yeah you can usually tell when a white woman is writing a Black woman AND you can tell how many Black friends she has.
