I mainly bank fish and my favorite way to fish them is kind of a hybrid between the usual method and the senko method. I'll let it sink for 3-5 seconds usually then give it a couple twitches and let it sink back down. It's like a senko but has insane drawing power
Yep thats what I do, I let it go all the way to bottom then dead stick it with a small twitch once and a while. Like a dying baitfish. I never fish a fluke fast or on the surface.
@@Christopherjamesmurphy21 I'd go with a medium to medium heavy rod, preferably a medium. I like to use a baitcaster but some people prefer spinning. If you have a baitcast reel that casts light baits well, I'd go with that. I use 12lb line, mono or Fluoro will work. The specific combo I use is a 7'3 M Halo XDIII Pro ($100) and a Shimano SLX MGL 70 ($150)
Brother, I love how detailed you are when teaching "us" about the different baits, rods, & reels that you use. It's refreshing not to have any questions, about any particular bait, after your video is done. Thank you!!
Good tips. I still have some original slug-O's which one could say was the generation before the flukes. Dang....I guess I'm old....lol. I dont use my slug-O's anymore, low stock, wanna save them for nostalgia reasons. Keep up the good work thanks for the video.
Another way that gives a great action is on a jig head (I rig them like that below the dam where there’s a lot of current). The ones I use have the weight pretty far forwards and are fairly thin side to side. Do-It molds SHB-5-A and I also have a SHB-5-VA which I can’t find listed anywhere online. It’s the same style as the other one, but with round recesses for adding eyes and it comes in a few different sizes, mainly 1/8 and 5/8 oz, plus the smaller 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 ones use a larger hook than the other mold. That profile lets the fluke kind of dart and keel as the water hits the flat sides of the jig head. Kind of like a crappie tube with the jigs that go inside the tube where you the on about 3/16” back from the nose of the tube. Makes for a great injured / “trapped” Shad presentation while moving through the turbulent current. I also like the “Dead Assassin” flukes, they have a keel and an almost Y shaped profile looking head on. They glide all over the place when you twitch them and kind of flutter down if you hold slight pressure on the line.
I put mine behind a dark small barrel swivel the use about a 2ft shot of floro leader. Helps prevent line twists and adds just enough weight for a slight sink
I use a fluke to flip and fish in grass and heavy cover but i prefer to use a belly weighted hook vs a standard texas rig. Its a deadly bait in so many different situations.
Awesome content!! Huge thumbs up. I'd consider a bead less Carolina rig or free rig on a sharp rip lift & limp line gravity fall letting the fluke shimmer a naturally horizontal way back to the bottom from a few feet above it. I've drop shot with success subtlety of that tail shimmer (much like a finesse Roboworm does) with any boat movement I'm going to try letting 1 hang vertically like a dead stick in a rod holder as a 2nd rod in the water & let the wakes, boat motion etc. add the subtle wiggles & shimmers... just be ready to grab it on a strike (Folbe rod holders are esp. sweet for grabbing directly into a hook set). I have yet to try this method though, but it's viable in open water. (if nothing else, a rod is still in the water when tying a knot, grabbing a snack or whatever else)
I fish it on anywhere between a 1/16 to 1/4 oz weighted hook depending on the current. 1/8 is my preferred weight cause I can use it subsurface and jerk it, or I can let it fall all the way to the bottom and do a combination of Jerking and fishing it like a t rig.
That’s what has me almost ready to give up. Getting out for a few hours once every couple of months isn’t enough to refine and to catch my first bass. Even if I find something that works, the bass behaviors will be completely different by the next time I go.
I just recently am spending some months in Florida. I hear that the fluke is still very popular here. I have seen HilarySue use a fluke. And now you and your uncle. That's 👍 great for me to hear! Gonna try it out! THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO, LOVE YOUR STYLE OF TEACHING US AND FISHING.
I always have a fluke rod on deck when fishing topwater as well. If they miss the topwater and don’t hit again, i go right back with the fluke just under the surface like twitch twitch pause.
Good video, bro. Double Fluke Rig for Smallies and Largies; Smallies can't stand it on our pelagic forage lakes. Carolina Rig for Largies is great in summer on deep rocks, especially off grass lines... Scrounger head in spring and fall; they absolutely smash it ~ Peace
On a spinning rig i like to stick out my finger, reel quick and sporadic, and let the line slap it. It creates a crazy erratic action. I especially like it for flukes and also killer for senkos. A quick reel with the finger slap makes the lures go crazy.
Ty, I recommend using a non slip loop knot when fishing anything with a presentation of an actual fish and spinnerbaits too, the action on those are way more natural with a loop knot
spinners still give a good presentation without it and you can give them a jerk to change the position of the blades in the water colomn but if its used w a loop knot it will stand up in the water and be driven more in line
and to add on to your other point about the texas rig, I love to put a splitshot or 2 just depends on how deep the area im fishing maybe 1 larger one, love love love the splitshot rig w the loopknot and my arkansas shiner zoom flukes
Also I like doing all of this but on my leader ill make a loop in the line about 6 inches up from the hook and make the loop about 6 inches, wrap the tag end through a few times lubricate and sench, cut the bottom line of the loop close to the knot and tie another hook on w a loop knot and rig both the offset straight shanks w the same fluke and throw a splitshot about 20ish inches up, my way of doing the double fluke rig
I’ve caught them similarly to the first way, except instead of fast pulls, take it about half speed or less. Keeps the bait a little lower and works great in highland rivers
maybe try what you describe on a carolina rig using a bobber you can fill with water. instead of an egg weight. fill it enough to get you down but not so much you get hung up. ya feel me?
i will power shot (almost a diy Tokyo rig) in the grass during the shad spawn down here in florida.. 3/4 punching tungsten on a 20lb leader (with a small spiltring tie on the bottom of the leader) to a spro spiltring with a fusion19 4/0 ewg hook to 50lb smooth (blacked out) braid.
The most effective way to use this lure for me and I've tried everything you've shown here, is to walk the dog. I live on the Pend Oreille River and another technique i use is to throw an un weighted fluke out into the current from slack water and just let the slack line curve around and hold the bait in the current. It'll naturally wave back and forth and entice strikes. I'm targeting fish that are holding in that transition zone between slack and current, rocks and sand.
I have no special way to fish a fluke. Thats why I'm here to learn it lol. We'll see how it goes. I just picked up a bunch from zoom in a variety of colors
i hear ya, caught my pb on one with a carolina rig. but snce then, its been completely ineffective. i have kinda shined the fluke for 6xd cranks, rapala jerks, squarebills and chatterbaits. ya feel me?
Drop shot a super fluke jr. on a 2/0 ewg hook. Also put it on a 1/8 or 3/16 oz shakey head beside cover or dock cables, dock posts, or skip it under docks. They skip really well on a shakey head. In addition to the ways you described, a super fluke on a C Rig is always money anywhere in the country. Match the color to the common prey, whether shad or bluegill. In pre spawn, use a red shad color and slay them, just like you'd think of a Rayburn Red for a rattle trap. Something about red in the pre spawn!!
I have 2 rods Texas rigged flukes, one weighted one no weight. The no weight can be fished just like a frog. Can't count number bass that have hit this no weight fluke as it fell off a Lilly pad in the water. The weighted one I will put it on the outside grass edges let it sink to bottom, slow roll it first couple feet then hop it once, most hits are as it falls back down.
So Tyler, since you know indian lake... I have been curious about the changing water clarity. My whole life I NEVER thought I would be able to see the bottom of indian. Well starting last year (whether its due to zebra mussels, COVID and lesser traffic, temperatures, the new spill way etc.) If it is a nice day, we can now see down to the lakebed on indian. How will this change the reaction/fishing there? I am guessing it might improve the fishing but not sure because the fish are used to muddy and lowViz. Will we need to change up things like bait color or will the same things that worked before still work? Should we spend some money and Experiment on colors that, before, were not as popular there? Change up the line? I am curious as to how it will affect the fishing...?
Well I am no scientist, but in my opinion I think it will make the fishing a little bit tough for a few years because the bass are going to be a lot more spread out than ever before. There is a lot more grass growing on the main lake than there has ever been and so there are more places for the same population of bass to hide. With that being said I believe that the Bass population is going to explode there over the next four or five years. With having that amount of grass on the main lake and good water clarity I believe there’s going to be some great bass spawns and I really think the overall size of bass and population is going to go up. Like I said though, it may take a few years to get there
@@BassFishingHQ yeah that makes sense. I did not think about those aspects! I know its a tough lake or at least tough to get a lot of weight so that would be awesome over the next few years if the population could expand. Thanks for the feedback! And keep the awesome content coming!!
