    Interesting. Whatever you have in mind for Coaster at Playland in Vancouver: that 2nd drop's valley brings trains and the guests riding them to the lowest elevation any part of the attraction (with the only exception being at the beginning of the ride; somewhere between the loading platform and the lift hill) and it enters that drop at a bigger speed than the 1st. The 1st drop plunges 67' from 75' to its valley at at least 8' above the ground, while the 2nd drop's valley is more like 3' above the ground, starting at a greater speed than the speed of the lift hill that the 1st drop started at.
    I admit that that 2nd drop is likely shy of 67' and also doesn't have trains reach as fast a speed as it does after the 1st drop. But if you also consider that Coaster's only two chances of having trains valley are after the 1st drop and after the 2nd drop, it'd be impossible for the ride to be as good as it is without that boring 1st turnaround. If that was TLDR: there are legitimate reasons that 1st turn around on Coaster is the way it is

      That makes sense. As I mentioned, this was an exercise for fun. I imagine a lot of these design decisions were made intentionally and with reason.

    My top 5 woodies is : 1. Colossos (Remove Helix and replace it with just a turn and remove the trims), Troy (Make first drop in style of Wodan), Wodan (Add a couple of speed hills extra before you hit brake run), Joris en de Draak (Instead of just turning into the breaks, add an off axis hill), Heidi the ride (Make the airtime hills a bit steeper).

    • @CanobieCoaster

      That helix on Colossos is painfully slow.

      @@CanobieCoaster yeah I don't know how it even became that slow. The train hauls over the first camelbacks but after the turnaround it pretty much dies.

    I agree about Ravine Flyer's turnaround. It could've been about 10-15ft shorter. Also the airtime hill over the lift hill could have a sharper crest. With Waldameer as my home park, I am thankful they retrack the coaster each year to make it smoother!

    I am salivating at the thought of Lightning Rod having a zero-G roll at the top of the first hill. That would be awesome! That would probably be enough to make it my # 1, or at least # 2 behind X2. I know they aren't doing that with the current renovation, but I wonder if that was ever considered.

      @@CanobieCoaster good point, it probably would need to rework the first return camelback after the turnaround. If they made that a small ejector hill, it could benefit the ride. Oh well. I am going in order. I have a separate video on my top 25 wood coasters, but I do prefer Swamp Fox. El Toro has 4 of the best airtime moments in the world, but I don't love the ride's pacing (middle is just ok, end is just decent). Swamp Fox is more consistently great. The amount of airtime you get on every hill with buzz bars gave it the edge for me.

    i have to say for el toro's change, id just take out those final s bends going into the brakes. Cuz then you'd end the ride while hauling through the 3 low to the ground turns instead of going pretty slow into the final brake run.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 года назад

      That was another thing I considered. Especially since it would make the ride less valley prone on cooler days.

  • @roxynano
    @roxynano 3 года назад

    The whole time watching the video I felt conflict with myself. On the one hand it would lead to a better ride experience, but on the other hand the coaster preservationist in me opposes the idea especially with classic impactful coasters like Swamp Fox or the Coney Island Cyclone.
    However I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Beast as I feel re profiling those turns before the second chain lift so there isn’t any noticeable trim break as that ruins the Beast for me in the front row. (Back row its my favorite wooden coaster)

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 года назад +1

      Beast is nowhere near my favorite wood coasters. I purposefully picked my top 25 since those rides are as close to perfect. There are a ton I'd change about lower ranked rides.
      I doubt many of these will ever happen. It was just a fun exercise.
