I was so surprised to see Thunderhead on the list, thunderhead is by far one of the best wooden coaster I’ve been on, it’s intense but not too intense, the seats are comfy lol, I could fall asleep on them cause it’s like a couch.
Not having The Beast in Top 50 in criminal. Enjoyed the list though. The Son of Beast was the most intense woody I ever rode. The drop and speed was incredible.
Apparently the park no longer allows people to ride in the back car entirely. When I was there in 2018, I was allowed to ride anywhere but the very back row.
Now tonnerre de zeus have a new layoyt and its called tonnerre 2 zeus (if you speak french you now why its nemuber 2) and its very cool gravity do a very good work on the retrack (ps i am french so i do tonnerre 2 zeus 1 week after it open)
I still don’t get that low Troy ranking. It’s not an airtime focused GCI, but that’s why it’s better than most! It’s a lateral machine with S tier pacing all the way through
I like Prowler in the front, but I've always found it overrated. A lot of my rides have been sort of shaky and I've never gotten those legendary night rides.
@@SunshineStateCoasters well I actually have storm chaser as number four in the park it always runs slow for me. Lightning run was hauling but it felt to short and they wouldn’t let me lap. The Kentucky flyer crew let us ride 13 times in a row before it got a line and lightning run had no line either also lightning run felt a bit rattly
It makes me so excited to see Comet at Great Escape get some needed recognition. Since Great Escape was my home park until I moved to AZ in 2017, I got a lot of rides on Comet. I went back to NY in July 2018 to visit family and friends and was able to go back to Great Escape. Comet was running pretty rough in 2018 when I went and funny enough, a very bad heatwave hit that area of NY a couple days later. Comet is easily one of my favorites, and pretty underrated IMO, so it's really nice to see it get some recognition.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah they do an amazing job maintaining it. I have also ridden on days where it was running slow. Those days weren't too frequent, but when it was running slow, it was easy to tell. It's one of the reasons it took me some time to see why Ghost Rider was so good. I rode it in the morning in October and it was running really slow. Didn't get the chance to ride again that day sadly. Goes to show how different some coasters can feel in different conditions or times.
No defunct coasters made my top 50 steel or wood lists. The highest defunct wood coaster would have been Georgia Cyclone at 60 and the highest steel would have been Dueling Dragons at 70.
I usually tried riding row 10 of The Big Dipper at Blackpool Pleasure Beach it's my favourite seat in the back car. That's because row two out of four of each car is furthest from the wheels. It's a great coaster, with the 2nd drop bigger than the 1st, although I preferred Grand National in Row 11. Blue Streak is a short ride and it's also dwarfed by other coasters there, being at Cedar Point.
@@CanobieCoaster I stand corrected; thanks! For some reason I thought Grand National four car trains. My favourite was row 8; middle car of the back row. I expected to like The Big Dipper better because the layout looks much better in the POVS, but the double downs of G.N. provided more sumptuous airtime.
I'm extremely excited for the Gravity Group re track on Tonnerre De Zeus this year and I think it will be amazing considering it is my favourite coaster of all time
Honestly I would’ve had Classic Coaster a fair but higher, but that’s likely because of my home park bias. Last ride I got those ejector yonks on nearly every drop after the second turnaround, and it was absolutely insane, but it doesn’t run like that every single time sadly. It’s around my #7 in my top 10, right in front of Raptor for me
I have to say I'm surprised to see that some coasters like Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park and Hoosier Hurricane at Indiana Beach weren't on the list. But what really surprised me was how Roar-O-Saurus at Story Land weren't on the list. When I saw Wooden Warrior at Quassy and Oscar's Wacky Taxi at Sesame Place on the list, I guess I was expecting that coaster to be in the mix as well.
Roar-O-Saurus is head and shoulders better than the other junior Gravity Groups. Yankee Cannonball pre-retracking would have been in the top 25, but not any more. Hoosier Hurricane isn't even in the top 100.
@@mitchellries256 I have a review that goes into more detail, but the ride doesn't really have any airtime. The only thing going for it is the location.
Thank you for including comet at great escape. This is my home park, and no one ever talks about it. Comet is fun, with great floater, and a pretty good ending.
So many fantastic wooden roller coasters! I was so happy to see the Grand National on this list, as you say, the airtime is pretty good and I completely agree, if Blackpool completely refurbished the ride (made it a bit smoother) It could be even better. It's a difficult topic however because the ride is quite old and historic. Personally, I'd give GCI a call, retrack the coaster whilst keeping the structure intact as much as possible. I'd also give the coaster the small GCI trains found on Heide the ride at Plopsaland to help relieve some of the stress on the track.
@@CanobieCoaster I've only experience the custom PTC trains the coaster runs now, but I've talked to enthusiasts older than me and they said it was smoother in the 90s
Thanks for putting the Gravity Group family wooden coasters on here, I love kentucky Flyer and it is a great airtime machine for everyone to enjoy. The layout may be a bit small but not tame as it has a lot of partime (partime = pacing + airtime)

See in RCDB a wooden coaster that Canobie Coaster, reflecting your ride when this video was made, would say: This was a love-hate coaster for me. On one hand, I loved the racing element and this coaster had some serious airtime in the back car on almost every drop. However, the ride has some downright brutal valleys making it hard to ride consecutively. In the quote, "has some downright brutal valleys", what does that mean? What do you think?
