Thank you for bringing this up, I’ve got commentary from the holy fathers for context. There is such richness and beauty in this passage, and surely a Marian aspect as well.
      11. Let therefore the slave purchased at so great a price confess his condition, and say, "Behold, O Lord, how that I am Thy servant: "I am Thy servant, and the son of Thine handmaid" (ver. 16). ...This, therefore, is the son of the heavenly Jerusalem, which is above, the free mother of us all. And free indeed from sin she is, but the handmaid of righteousness; to whose sons still pilgrims it is said, "Ye have been called unto liberty;" and again he maketh them servants, when he saith, "but by love serve one another." ...Let therefore that servant say unto God, Many call themselves martyrs, many Thy servants, because they hold Thy Name in various heresies and errors; but since they are beside Thy Church, they are not the children of Thy handmaid. But "I am Thy servant, and the son of Thine handmaid." "Thou hast broken my bonds asunder."

Mary is given to John (a non relative) into his household. Prots like to argue that Mary had other sons but then why would Jesus give her to John breaking Jewish tradition of the next son caring for her? Also, Jesus insists on calling her "woman", the name God gave Eve, thus establishing Mary as the new Eve, so she is the woman signified in Revelation which John would later write.

I have had many arguments with Protestants about specific things like this and find it generally unfruitful. I think much of the prayer to Mary is a continuation of what they had been doing while she was alive - which is seeking her intercession and knowing she was constantly praying for the church while she was on earth. Her departure to heaven isn’t viewed as a cessation of that work, so they continue asking for her intercession now that she’s with her son.
You aren’t likely to see that in the scriptures because most of it is written while she’s still alive. Also the intercession of the saints - throughout scripture, they are still alive and interceding for the church in the earthly ministries and people are bringing prayer requests to them. It would be normal for the church to simply continue this habit when the disciples are home with the Lord because they believe the apostles are alive with Christ and are now even more capable of taking their requests to God.

@@johnbrowne2170 I know you know this because every catholic says it repeatedly - we DO take our prayers to Jesus. We also ask other faithful Christians to pray for us IN ADDITION to our own prayers. They add to, they do not replace.
As to Mary, she is in scripture. And many people will point her out in scripture. Everything about her is based on who her son is. And every dogma about her was defined in defense of WHO JESUS IS. You see, heretics would question the divinity of Jesus or his physical incarnation, many times based on his human mother. So the dogmas defend Christ’s identity.
But even beyond that reason to defend her, there is this… if you read the scriptures the same way Matthew, Luke, Paul, Peter, and John read scripture, you’d find Mary in the scriptures. But you won’t let them teach you how to read scripture. You insist on reading it in a way totally foreign to them. Sometime, go read the things they reference in the Old Testament and really think about how they drew that interpretation from scripture. Like the rock that follows in the wilderness or the Isaiah 7:14. By Protestant methods of interpretation, you would never get what they got without them telling you about it. When you allow them to teach you how to read the Bible, you find Mary in the OT (and WAY more Jesus).

@@michaelogrady232 which is it? It can't be both. I heard one of your apologists, Tim staples, say that Mary was EXEMPT from the pains associated with child birth. The woman of revelation 12 is crying and in pain ready to deliver. So the woman can't be Mary. Of course most theologians agree that it is not Mary. Only Catholics believe this, while contradicting themselves as I pointed out. And no, it has NOTHING to do with the pain of the cross as I believe you guys like to say. Revelation 12 is ABUNDANTLY clear that this is a woman experiencing childbirth pains.

@rbnmnt3341 If you do your homework you will find the official teaching of the Church is the Woman is a composite of Israel, the Church, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her giving birth to the Messiah can apply to Israel and the Virgin. In birth pangs can apply to the Church. Her being the Mother of all the Faithful can apply to both the Church and the Blessed Virgin. Her standing in the Mercy Seat over the Ark can apply only to Mary, and thus have we depicted her since ancient times.

That's the type of answer that is given when you know you're wrong and trying to save some face. Half of you're composite, Israel is the right answer. All mystery religions depend heavily on the doctrine of "because I say so". If you use only the authority of the scriptures then you cannot be deceived into following after those who come along and tell you that the bible is saying something that it does not say. This is essentially the difference between the mystery Roman religion and a basic reading of God's word.

Why are you saying the scriptures have authority and simultaneously denying the authority of the church that chose the canon. The bishops that chose the books in your Bible were incense swinging Mary venerating successors of the apostles. If you deny the authority of the church and the religion of the men that chose the cannon of scripture why do you trust their Bible?

What Basic doctrines are universally Agreed upon in your view? Baptism saves? Real presence of Christ? Church structure? Faith alone or faith and works. Christology? If your Basic Biblical interpretation was as basic even on fundamentals of the faith as you say there would only be one Protestant church.

"Full of grace" is not indeed synonymous with "full of the Holy Spirit". The expression "filled with the Holy Spirit" is pretty unique to Luke but nobody in the New Testament is said to have a greater amount of the Holy Spirit than anyone else.
When a prophet spoke, Luke says that he's "filled with the Holy Spirit". When one is filled with the Holy Spirit, it's usually followed by that person speaking.
Acts 2:24 - And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Notice that they were ALL filled with the Holy Spirit - not just Mary.
    Eph. 5:18 - And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Paul is commanding his church to be "filled with the Spirit". Mary didn't have monopoly on this.
"Full of grace" is also translated highly favored". Grace and favor are synonymous terms in the New Testament.
Luke 1:30 - And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
God found favor in Mary. Notice that He didn't impute His favor upon her - like He gives the grace of His Spirit to those who believe.
The Roman religion is infamous for associating things that are not associated in the scriptures. For some reason she takes license with the word of God - making it say things that it does not say. This is disingenuous and deceptive. We are not of those who handle the word of God deceitfully.
2 Cor. 4:2 - But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
That's one of the signs that we can use to identify false religion.

@@tylerkessler4021 - That's a cute slogan. Where did you pick up that one?
All I know is this: The Jerusalem from above is the mother of us all (i.e. Jew and Gentile).
Gal. 4:26 - But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
And, in fact, the scriptures never define the church as a mother. That wouldn't make sense - scripturally. If you know what the church is then you would never call it your mother.
So, while your slogan is pithy, it's uninformed.
Get informed. Read and re-read the scriptures every day. Learn it, live it, love it.

For hundreds of years there was no Bible or agreed upon cannon of scripture. The bishops of Christ’s church made the decisions about the cannon of scripture you use. These holy bishops were incense swinging Mary venerating men. Denying the religion of the apostles and the people who gave you the Bible causes you to take almost everything out of context. You have a quasi Christian religion that bears almost no similarities to the Church of the holy apostles. Please study church history and especially the first and second centuries. You will cease to be Protestant if you do so sincerely because you will have to face being part of a false religious system.
