Also, he has tried very hard to impress the people and tried to make them admire him as much as they admire superman. But, he has never been able to do so, which drives his hatred against superman because he thinks that its unfair that superman gets admiration because of him being a super powered being which makes protecting the people and winning their love a lot easier for him.
