You neglected to mention that, in modern versions, he's motivated to fight Superman because he believes that: a) humanity relying on Superman will make mankind (and by extension, him) weak. b) He truly fears that Superman will try to take over the world... because that's what Luthor would do if he had his powers. He doesn't believe that someone like Superman would act out of charity and selflessness. c) Lex Luthor envies how Metropolis and the world see Superman as the greatest hero ever... when instead, they should be admiring him, Lex Luthor!
+ClassicToonFan64 Lex only thinks relying on Superman will make humanity weak because he wants humanity to rely on him. And yeah Lex doesn't think Superman does good and helps people because it's the right thing to do. He thinks he does it to take over the world because that's what he would do if he had Superman's powers in his mind he thinks that's what Superman is trying to do.
Jas AS yes. Check the comics. He is accurate. Problem is DC movie universe is messed up. Superman looks way younger than Bruce, they should be around same age. Jesse should have been older than Bruce or Clark. As he is considered smartest guy in DC.
DC Comics doesn't fully understand Lex Luthor. In essence, Luthor is meant to be a smart, intellectual character who commits unethical acts, but does so in style and keeps his hands clean. As a businessman, he should be the kind of guy to adopt a charming facade while completely screwing over anyone he sees special interest in, without escalating to any sort of camp or violence. As a president, he should be the kind of leader who gives America what it wants, not only becoming the most ideal, fictional politician, but also becoming DC's ultimate villain, a villain who wears the face of benevolent nature while ordering commands behind the scenes, such as constantly deploying Deathstroke or the Suicide Squad to handle black ops missions that would fall in Luthor's favor. The ambitious, volatile Luthor should follow after his fall from Grace, losing his fortune, his political prestige, and behind bars. This is when Luthor should really express his true nature, after all else fails and he has nothing to cover himself behind.
Cid the Black Mage Even still there was more to that origin besides turning evil just because he was bald. He had no real father figure, and later revealed to be abusive, he wanted to prove his intelligence to everyone but everyone assume he was a menace everyone his well meaning intention always going wrong proving him to just become more and more evil, his arrogance. Lex had the makings of a bad guy but the bald just pushed him over the edge. Not to mention Lex is xenophobic, feeling Superman corrupts humanity preventing them from reaching their true potential.
Wait, so in most of the LEGO shorts and games, the guy voicing Lex is actually reprising his role from the animated series?! Now that’s what I call dedication!
Daenerys Targaryen Haha, you know me too well! Like Michael Corleone said: _"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer..."_ It always helps to know what your up against :)
Clancy Brown(Mr krabs himself), Michael Rosenbaum(The Flash himself), and Max Mittleman(Sataima himself) are some of my favorite portrayers of Lex Luther
I like the animated Lex the best. In the real life movies they always make him a goofy insane guy when he works much better as a cold blooded master mind.
The problem with BVS is that we actually forgot it was meant to be a superman movie cause we all started concentrating on batman who didn't need to be there
Lex Luthor is one of my favorite Supervillains ! He is the true archenemy of Superman . I love Clancy Browns voicepotrayal of Lex Luthor and he is the best potrayal of Lex Luthor in my opinion because of Superman TAS, Justice League and Superman / Batman : Public Enemies animated movie . I can't wait to see Jesse Eisenberg potray Lex Luthor in Batman Vs Superman Dawn of Justice .
There were other important details forgotten in his origin, like when he had a terminal illness from long-term exposure to kryptonite, and after the real Luthor faked his death, a clone was there to replace him for a while.
I like him, he seems like a nice guy...... Very smart. So much potential best supervillain because he actually reminds me of some rich entrepreneurs ... Cough cough republicans
Lex Luther has been portrayed best on animated series like they almost always get him perfect but in the movies and tv he's much less threatening although I actually do like Jean hackman's version (although I don't like the movie) and the one on smallville had some stand out episodes
ROCKHOPPA901 Superman is also extremely gullible and will trust way too easy, Batman doesn't trust anyone most of the time which can work in his favor or against him.
ROCKHOPPA901 thatsba example of,superman using his intellect? As far as I can tell he swoops in monologues about justice throws fisticuffs and goes home. I haven't seen supes be particularly brainy
I thought lex took some type of super steroids and is able to go through near death situations and shake it off.and he built a nearly superman proof suit
They should've cast Corey Stoll to play Lex Luthor instead of Jesse Eisenberg. Stoll did a good job playing the main villain, Darren Cross in Ant-Man. Cross and Luthor do share a similar characteristics. Eisenberg would've make a perfect Jimmy Olsen or Riddler.
he is such a great villain. he was beautifully portrayed in superman and JL animated series. i think michael rosenbaum was the best version of lex luthor. even though i wish they got someone else i hope jesse eisenberg will surprise us all like heath ledger did with his joker.
It's Lex Luthor's indomitable will and extreme arrogance that keep's him going. That's why he Superman's greatest enemy. Like Superman, he never gives up.
You didn't talk about one time when he proved how evil can he be. Remember when he went to washroom and didn't wash his hands? Oh dear, even Darkseid quickly dips his hands in water and wipes them with his pants. But not Lex.
Billy Zane would've Been The Perfect Lex Luthor for Henry Cavill's Superman, Don't You Guys Agreed, Zack Snyder should've Casted Billy Zane as Lex Luthor
i really liked lex luthor the most when he was just a rather intelligent rich guy. dc is just going nuts with making everything and everyone godlike in some way or another
2006: Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor - "WRONG!" 2020: Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik - "WRONG!" What is it with live-action film adaptations having the villains shout "WRONG!"?
So all Superboy had to do was save Luthor first and then blow out the chemical fire in the lab and none of this would have happened. They could have been friends.

Isnt there a version of Lex where he kills his parents as a youngling to inherit the fortune and he goes on to create LexCorp and also become a kingpin of crime? What version is that?
***** Actually, in the newer incanrnations, Luthor has a legit reason to hate superman. He fears that superman is just too powerful and will eventually cause the destruction of humanity. Also, he has tried very hard to impress the people and tried to make them admire him as much as they admire superman. But, he has never been able to do so, which drives his hatred against superman because he thinks that its unfair that superman gets admiration because of him being a super powered being which makes protecting the people and winning their love a lot easier for him.
+mahtada bashir Nah. It's more that he can't stand the fact that people admire Superman more than they admire him and he's jealous of Superman because Lex's ego can't take anyone being admired more than him. He was also Metropolis's most powerful man before Superman came along and he can't handle the idea that there's someone in Metropolis more powerful than him so in Lex's mind he has to kill Superman to get that title back.
You neglected to mention that, in modern versions, he's motivated to fight Superman because he believes that:
a) humanity relying on Superman will make mankind (and by extension, him) weak.
b) He truly fears that Superman will try to take over the world... because that's what Luthor would do if he had his powers. He doesn't believe that someone like Superman would act out of charity and selflessness.
c) Lex Luthor envies how Metropolis and the world see Superman as the greatest hero ever... when instead, they should be admiring him, Lex Luthor!
Those are the "Real" reasons he hates him, oh yeah Young Justice Lex Luther was awesome master manipulator
ClassicToonFan64 look like smalville lex luthor, intrusting characteur
jbmouneix1
ClassicToonFan64 Lex also hates Superman because he can't stand the idea of there being someone in Metropolis more powerful than him
+ClassicToonFan64 Lex only thinks relying on Superman will make humanity weak because he wants humanity to rely on him. Ironic that Eisenberg's portrayal would be more cartoony while the cartoon Lex Luthor is more dignified.
Worst casting ever.
Lex Luthor proving that money is the greatest superpower.
That's like Batman😂
I think batman showed us that fact as well
BATMAN did that better.....😂
Michael Rosenbaum was the best Lex on screen large or small.
Backfromthedeadguy hell yeah
Jon Cryer was pretty good too.
Superman vs Lex Luthor is one of the best comic book rivalries ever.
Not gonna lie, scrolling past this I thought it was Buzz Lightyear...
Haha so did I ..similar colors and suit
Omg me too!
Same here
You've done fuck up mojo you skipped over the most crucial detail of Lex Luthor...
When he stole 40 cakes... That was just terrible.
dolluan25 And that's canon. I take it you heard that from Death Battle.
Oh yeah that we all Remember that Day, it was horrible xD
Death Battles brought that up.
dolluan25 Dude, stop spoiling the plot of Batman v Superman
Yeah! That's as much as Four Tens!
Alexander Joseph luthor is his real name for those who do not know
One of the greatest villians of all time!!
Clancy Brown was the Best Lex Luthor, and The Best Mr. Krabs as Well
I agree.
The ONLY Mr. Krabs
5:39 Kevin Spacey was so Brilliant as Lex Luthor in Superman Returns (2006)
I can't believe they picked Jesse Eisenberg to portray Lex. Thank god Zack Snyder got fired.
Zack Snyder got fired ? 0_o
he didnt yet they just give him less control on the other movies he isnt directing
young Lex looked like Exactly jesse eisenberg.
Saral Thakur really?
Jas AS yes. Check the comics. He is accurate. Problem is DC movie universe is messed up. Superman looks way younger than Bruce, they should be around same age. Jesse should have been older than Bruce or Clark. As he is considered smartest guy in DC.

Ivan Ramirez you basically just described the Modern Age Lex Luthor in a whole paragraph
He is in my top 3 best villains. He's just so frickin cool.
Lex Luthor is one of the best geniuses indeed. (Next to Bruce (Batman) Wayne, Tony (Iron Man) Stark, Ultron & Brainiac of course.)
Personally, i prefer the Kevin Spacey version. Mainly because Kevin Spacey did such a great job.
***** The movie terrible, though.
Kebetzers
In some ways. yes.
***** To me the animated Luthors with the really deep voice is the best
But he didn't still fort cakes. That's as many as four tens and that's bad
***** "WRONG!!!!!"
lol jk, he was alright tbf
You forgot one important fact about Lex Luthor.
When he stolen 40 cakes… That was terrible. Surprisingly that's canon.
Lex Luthor getting butthurt about being bald is definitely the worst motivation for supervillainy ever thought of.
Those were the 50s, they just had to choose the worst version of his origin for some reason
Cid the Black Mage which is why I still think his modern origin is the best
My favorite version of Luthor is the cartoon version. That voice actor is amazing and believeable.
Don't forget, Lex once took 40 cakes. That's as much as four 10s, and that's just terrible.
Cameron Wiscovitch screwattack
Superman Returns was 2006, not 2008
Wait, so in most of the LEGO shorts and games, the guy voicing Lex is actually reprising his role from the animated series?! Now that’s what I call dedication!
I _reeeeally_ hope that Jesse Eisenberg does him justice!!!
UnkeptMoss328 He won't
gokulauri Don't say that, you don't know yet!
Remember that the same thing happened with Heath Ledger.
UnkeptMoss328 I thought I'd find you here, getting a sneak peek at your enemy! ;)
UnkeptMoss328 I heard him in the Teaser and...wow. He sounded exactly like Jesse Eisenberg
Daenerys Targaryen Haha, you know me too well! Like Michael Corleone said: _"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer..."_ It always helps to know what your up against :)
watching clips from the old superman movies makes me really wonder what i was thinking when i used to like them
Lex is by far the best DC villain.
He has so many sides to his character.
*"DEATH BATTLE!"* did a better job of analysing Lex Luthor.
ProtoSnake watchmojo always bore us
ProtoSnake And yet when it comes to Superman vs Goku you'll say they're bias.
Paul Francis Goneda What? I never said they were bias.
Please make Supervillain Origins for Reverse Flash and Merlyn.
Is reverse flash really slow, or can run backwards really fast?
You should suggest on their website.
harrysboylan I used to think I was smart, then I met you.
Clancy Brown(Mr krabs himself), Michael Rosenbaum(The Flash himself), and Max Mittleman(Sataima himself) are some of my favorite portrayers of Lex Luther
Lex Luthor is such a badass. That armor is awesome and he is now IN The Justice League.
For some reason, I feel the "Superman The Animated Series" Origins for Lex is the best one.
I like the animated Lex the best. In the real life movies they always make him a goofy insane guy when he works much better as a cold blooded master mind.
You forgot when Lex turned into an orange lantern in Blackest Night
Obviously michael rosembaum's portrayal as lex luthor was by far the best..
The problem with BVS is that we actually forgot it was meant to be a superman movie cause we all started concentrating on batman who didn't need to be there
please redux the jokers origins next
Wow never realized how much his mech suit has the same color palette as Buzz Lightyear
I legit thought the thumbnail was Buzz Lightyear
lol i did too
Haha I almost forgot about Lex Luthor until I saw the Lex industries gas tank get thrown at Superman in Man of Steel.
He became the CEO of Amazon.

There were other important details forgotten in his origin, like when he had a terminal illness from long-term exposure to kryptonite, and after the real Luthor faked his death, a clone was there to replace him for a while.
Michael Rosenbaum was the best Lex Luthor
Awesome job!
The Lex Luthor actor of 2015 was the voice of blu for the animated film rio and the sequel rio 2
Hate that guy...
Superman I bet you do!
I like him, he seems like a nice guy...... Very smart. So much potential best supervillain because he actually reminds me of some rich entrepreneurs ... Cough cough republicans
Superman y he's such a nice guy
You stole unkeptmoss' profile pic
ShortMoviesXtreme I know right :P
Lex Luther has been portrayed best on animated series like they almost always get him perfect but in the movies and tv he's much less threatening although I actually do like Jean hackman's version (although I don't like the movie) and the one on smallville had some stand out episodes
Batman - 6th level intellect
Superman - 8th level intellect
Luthor - 9th level intellect
This guy is *good!*
Finally someone on the Internet who actually recognizes superman is smarter than Batman. Batman is better tactically, and his paranoia makes him
More prepared in a way, but Supes is just smarter
ROCKHOPPA901 Superman is also extremely gullible and will trust way too easy, Batman doesn't trust anyone most of the time which can work in his favor or against him.
ROCKHOPPA901 Thanks, I wasn't trying to compare the two, I was just stating facts!
ROCKHOPPA901 thatsba example of,superman using his intellect? As far as I can tell he swoops in monologues about justice throws fisticuffs and goes home. I haven't seen supes be particularly brainy
Well, he also stole 40 cakes, and that's terrible.
Lol In the thumbnail I thought that was buzz lightyear until I really looked at it
I thought lex took some type of super steroids and is able to go through near death situations and shake it off.and he built a nearly superman proof suit
OH NO, ITS BAD BUZZ LIGHTYEAR.
Do top 10 Lex Luther stories.
Supervillain Origins: Fin Fang Foom. He needs one, stat.
Is this the first HD 720p video on watchmojo.com?
I fucking hated Eisenberg as Luthor.
We need one for Captain Boomerang
he is such a great villain. he was beautifully portrayed in superman and JL animated series. i think michael rosenbaum was the best version of lex luthor. even though i wish they got someone else i hope jesse eisenberg will surprise us all like heath ledger did with his joker.

Oh dear, even Darkseid quickly dips his hands in water and wipes them with his pants. But not Lex.
Very interesting
Ok, no one said it yet? His suit looks like buzzlightyear. Well done DC
The warsuit was actually created by both darkseid , brainiac , and lex himself !
lex is one of my favorite villain alongside Q and the borg Queen
Supervillain Origins: Professor Zoom
0:59-1:04 wait so Lex is basically an evil version of Batman then.
I thought it was buzz lightyear from the thumbnail
Billy Zane would've Been The Perfect Lex Luthor for Henry Cavill's Superman, Don't You Guys Agreed, Zack Snyder should've Casted Billy Zane as Lex Luthor
Top 10 mortal kombat fatalities
Supervillain origins: professor zoom
i really liked lex luthor the most when he was just a rather intelligent rich guy. dc is just going nuts with making everything and everyone godlike in some way or another
This Bald Headed Criminal Genius Is Without A Doubt The Main Arch Nemesis Of The Man Of Steel
My favorite Superman villain!
Lex is so smart their is no room for hair on his head.
Superman Returns was a 2006 film not 2008. (5:21)
2006: Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor - "WRONG!"
2020: Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik - "WRONG!"
What is it with live-action film adaptations having the villains shout "WRONG!"?
People are wondering how Batman would be able to fight against Superman when Supermans main villain is a genius rich guy with no superpowers
gokulauri Power suit, obviously :)
Now that I think about it there is another Alex Luthor, only this one is from Earth-3
Never been so early also great vid
Do Supervillain Origins: The Joker (Redux) next.
Can you do a redux of joker's origin story
Do an origin story over ryuko matoi the main character from Kill La Kill the anime
So all Superboy had to do was save Luthor first and then blow out the chemical fire in the lab and none of this would have happened. They could have been friends.
Was he also nicked name "Deceased Manic?"
@Daniel Appleton Oops I misspelled thank you for reminding me.
Why is Buzz Lightyear the thumb nail?
Jesse is going to own this role!
My fear is that he will sound like blu from Rio oh wait he is
hiram castellanos
He sounded great in the trailer.
FYI Superman Returns came out in 2006 not 2008

I love the fact that the strongest superhero in DC has an ordinary human as his mortal enemy.
Isnt there a version of Lex where he kills his parents as a youngling to inherit the fortune and he goes on to create LexCorp and also become a kingpin of crime? What version is that?
Damn villains hold the dumbest of grudges.
***** Actually, in the newer incanrnations, Luthor has a legit reason to hate superman. He fears that superman is just too powerful and will eventually cause the destruction of humanity. mahtada bashir All-Star Superman is a good example, Lex said he'd do many things if not for Superman
+mahtada bashir Nah. It's more that he can't stand the fact that people admire Superman more than they admire him and he's jealous of Superman because Lex's ego can't take anyone being admired more than him. Superman Returns released in 2006.
Please do villain origins superboy prime
Lex Luthor finally became president. Where are Superman and Batman now?
watch mono did you you already do a origin of the joker? if not please do
Jesse version of Luthor is totally awesome if his name is not lex luthor
the thumnail reminds me of buzz lightyear
Kevin Spacey best movie luthor by far.
+MusicHeadNation I felt that he was a bit awkward until the end but that end was AMAZING.
Can you do best DC or Marvel stories??
