Hi Phillip, Ah man, this video 2-3 days late. I couldn’t wait as Freewell 82mm Glow Mist 1/4 and 1/8 were out of stock and only reopened for a few days before being out again. I was tossing up between the VND vs. VND Mist vs normal stacking NDs + Mist filters. From a practical standpoint and wanting to ensure no color casting, I went with the latter with ND8 + ND64 + ND1000 + Glow Mists + CP to mix it up. Let me know what you think but a buyer’s guide from Freewell or video from you would help as follows: 1) For Photos: In bright or daylight, - Use case: need best quality and don’t want X pattern on wide lenses and/or color casting -> use ND filters - Use case: portrait and/or street and need/want smooth skin, bringing out shadows (blacks) and highlights (whites) -> use Mist filters or VND Mist filters (if you don’t want to stack and need run and gun) For dark or lowlight, - Use case: portrait and/or street with lots of background lights and need/want halation in the lights -> use Mist filters (VND filters would be too dark unless you have lighting equipment) 2) For Videos: In bright or daylight, - Use case: run and gun and don’t need/want that digital sharp look, but willing to sacrifice some color casting that can fix/edit in post -> use VND filters. Otherwise use regular ND filters For dark or lowlight, - Use case: shooting scenes with lots of background lights and need/want halation in the lights -> use Mist filters (VND filters would be too dark unless you have lighting equipment) Well something like the above description would be most helpful to clear up for potential buyers. Thanks again for the video!
Sure, sounds about right. People reaching for vnd filters usually know why they’re buying them. Mist filters in my opinion are for very specific looks and projects. I’d use vnd most of the time. The vnd mist would be it I’m filming a specific project where I’d need this look all the time. A vnd filter is a necessity for me when filming, however any type or mist filter is an artistic choice for me, it dramatically changes the look and feel of the image. I have the magnetics too, their pretty sweet.
Thanks for your test Is the effect of the mist equivalent to a polar pro ? Can we take the mist off ? And how does it perform if the lense is already a bit soft ? don't we loose sharpness when two filters are superposed ? The mist seems to require one stop more light to expose correctly
Hey Phillip, thanks for this video. Finally I understand the difference between this 2 filters! 👍 The effect of the VND Mist it’s interesting but I prefer the normal VND. And your radio voice ahahahah 🔥
Thanks Luis! Yes, the vnd is great as it it just clean, nothing else added, so you can if you need to mist by stacking. However, if you're a filmmaker and have a need for this kind of filter and can't be bothered stacking as you film a ton of music videos, vanity projects, etc, then the VND Mist is an awesome filter to have in your gear. I use it quite a bit lately as I love the bloom it gives. I'm working pretty hard on the largest ever pro mist comparison video, I'm still waiting for one filter though. haha, my radio voice still needs some work.
The clamps came with the tubes, and they have 1/4 20 screws, so I attached those to two tiny SmallRig ballheads, mounted them and that's that, works great.
Thank You! Sure there is, Freewell do a fantastic version that is magnetic, I have a few and will be dropping a video on them very soon, just waiting for a delivery from them of a couple more and a case for them.
I have both, and they are very similar, I'd personally go with the VND x Mist to side step the stacking. The amount of stuck filters I've had due to stacking is a nightmare 😂🙈
No, I'm afraid not. The sound would no doubt be unbearable because of the blades, I had GoPro audio once from my Mavic 2 Pro, it's completely useless to have.
If I need audio I'll have my camera next to me, press record and sync the clips from the drone with my camera, and use the picture from my drone and audio from my camera.
Heyyyyooo Phillip! My wife has a pretty lit aquarium that she takes pictures of regulary with her phone (IG: sthlm_reefers) and I wanted to surprise her with a easy to use camera that she also can vlog with, you got any tips? She needs yellow/orange filters to country the blues in the tank
I just checked it out, she's really into that tank!! If you have passion for something, there's nothing stopping you! Well, that really depends on how much you're willing spend. With a GoPro Hero 9, you can get the camera in the tank, same goes for the Insta360 with 360 lens on it, that could be a cool perspective. A Sony full frame mirrorless would no doubt get the most stunning images though. You can vlog on all of them too. It's all about your budget.
@@PhillipSkraba dude your are awesome! I'll check them out, good point with being able to dip the camera that would probably be cool af! Thanks again, you are great!
Oh I really love that look of the 6-9
It’s got a stunning bloom to it 👌🏻
excellent review! thank you
Thank You!
Wow you really explained very very good just made my mind about it for my Air 2S (VND) Thanks.

@@PhillipSkraba but it’s not possible to create that effect in pos?
I've seen a few tries, however it's almost impossible to get the mist look digitally.
Ok. Thanks for your explanation. It’s always a pleasure to learn new things with you!
Anytime Luis!
Couldn’t help but notice the clamps for your tube lights. What did you use to mount them?
The clamps came with the tubes, and they have 1/4 20 screws, so I attached those to two tiny SmallRig ballheads, mounted them and that's that, works great.
real cool, is there a cheap mist filter without the V-ND?

Nice video! Do you think there will be any quality difference between vnd+glow mist stacked together vs just one vnd x mist filter?
I have both, and they are very similar, I'd personally go with the VND x Mist to side step the stacking. The amount of stuck filters I've had due to stacking is a nightmare 😂🙈
Can you record sound on Dji mini 2?
No, I'm afraid not. The sound would no doubt be unbearable because of the blades, I had GoPro audio once from my Mavic 2 Pro, it's completely useless to have.

nice did you switch to everyday video?
I do my best to get out videos, sometimes it’s a big job, sometimes they’re dailies. Working on it.
@@PhillipSkraba just dont burn out 😌
Been there a couple of times, I’ve found the best thing to do is turn the camera on 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba same here ;) i am running 4 companies.... but my filming friday is my time 🤣
Fist bump to that 🤜🏻🤛🏻

who cheap ,choose who。
Say what?
@@PhillipSkraba Whoever chooses cheaply
Well, $110 isn’t that cheap for a filter!
