My wife and I saw the Monkees on tour after Justus came out. Mike had stopped touring with the others, and they did a "Mike! He's GONE" gag in the show.
They did it on the 2002 tour when I saw them at the Louisville Zoo. They were going to do one of Mike's songs, Listen to the Band, I think. They mentioned Mike's name and Peter said, Mike? Where's Mike?" And of course, Micky, Davy and Peter all said, "He's gone!" 😂😂😂😂
Have you seen the entire scene it comes from? It was the episode Monstrous Monkees Mash and it predicted the exact order they would die in. In the episode Davy disappears while on a date . The other 3 go to rescue him. Peter disappears next while in the house which leads to this scene where Micky says to Mike "If you disappear I'll be a single!" then sings the song. And that's the order they left us with only Micky remaining to carry on their legacy.
One of my favorites that's not on here was "Hey man, you ought to get a haircut or they won't let you into Disneyland." It was used in several episodes.
(Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been on this account in awhile). That's definitely one of my favorite references too after knowing the backstory, but to the best of my knowledge they only used that in two episodes, and I wanted to have at least three clips per gag.
@@TiaMargarita It's true. Disneyland had a strict dress code/haircut policy for guests back in the day. Guys couldn't have long hair. A friend of mine who happened to be cousins with the Wilson brothers from The Beach Boys told me a story about how he & Brian Wilson went to go to Disneyland one day, but Disneyland wouldn't let them in because they had "long hair".

We get the craziest looks from all the people we meet." 4:24/4:40: "You must be joking." 4:41/5:13: The Monkees choosing fingers. 5:14/5:35: The Monkees grasping a bunch of stuff repeatedly. 5:36/6:13:"Don't do that."
I wasn’t born when the Monkees were on British tv but this is a delight to watch.. they had brilliant comic timing! My Dad knew Davy Jones from school in Manchester he used to pop round to his Mum’s for tea!
Here's one I heard twice in the show. I don't know if this will qualify as a running gag or not, but there's a line that someone will say that goes, "I'm working on my doctor's thesis", at which point one of the Monkees will reply, "Why can't your doctor work on his OWN thesis?"..
I'm pretty sure that gag was only used in the episode "I Was a 99-Pound Weakling." Mike was absent from other episodes, but they never made reference to it.
That's so true! It's almost always Mike. There are a couple of episodes where Peter and Micky answer but it's usually Mike. In fact they used that set up of a missed call because Mike couldn't answer to start off the episode "Monkees on the Line."
i havent seen anyone talk about it but i love when davy goes to check whos at the door but hes too short so he just opens the little window thing and stares at the door
So that's what my grandpa was laughing about all this time. He'd say things like "you must be joking" or "don't do that" and then just lose it. I never got it until today.
