    I had the amazing opportunity to meet Peter and Davy twice and Mickey three times. I saw them in concert in 1986 during their 20th anniversary tour. Then again in 1997 for an autograph signing and Q&A. Then I met Mickey a third time in 2015 during a convention. I was part of the 2nd generation of kids that grew up with the Monkees. When they had their resurgence in the 80's. I can't believe 2 of the members are gone. RIP Davy and now Peter. Thank You for the memories.

    My brother and I were brought up to believe Rock 'n' Roll wasn't real music. But one evening I wanted to postpone doing my homework by watching their opening episode...and I was hooked. I listened to the radio just to hear them, but wound up diving head first into Rock 'n' Roll. We even learned to play guitar with a lesson book "Play Like The Monkees." Eventually we would outgrow them and get into more progressive music, but I can't imagine what my life would have been like without Rock 'n' Roll and if not for the Monkees, we might never have discovered it.

    I mean I love them so much. I could never get tired of their music or hearing them talk. They're so naturally funny.
    When I heard that Davy had passed, I cried so hard and I still do when I think about him or listen to their music. Their music is the first I ever owned and I still have the albums. I remember my mom got them for me as a Valentine's present. It was The Monkeys and More of the Monkeys. I'll always treasure those two albums!! I have a CD of their greatest hits and I know every word to every song. I love it. Their music is my favorite and just about the happiest part of my childhood was listening to those albums. I would so love to go back to those days. I loved it then. The world was a much better place.

How many songs has she written? The Monkees should be in the R&R Hall of Fame, but IT WILL NEVER happen. So what if they started on a TV show? They were a real band. They wrote songs, played their instruments and have had a longer career than just about anybody. Nez, Mickey and Peter were all in bands prior to and after The Monkees....kind of hard to do if they were not real musicians. And Davy was a stage performer.

    Mike!!! So proud...an american texan no less pronouncing foyer correctly as' foy-yay' rather than foy-yer.

      "Foy-yay" is the French pronunciation of "Foy-yer" not the Texan pronouciatian. I'm sure Texans pronounce it "Foy-yer".

    My older sister was some big wig in the L.A. based Monkee fan club and she had also been a winner on The Last Train To Clarksville contest. Many years later, I met Mick. He wandered in to have me fix his glasses back around 1990. Very nice man. We talked about his daughter, a bit about the Monkees. He wasn’t very animated that day but made a nice impression. I’ve known many “stars” in my work but he was among the humble ones.

    I NEVER WOULD HAVE WATCH THE MONKEES IF IT WASN'T FOR THE MUSIC FIRST. I FOUND THE SHOW SILLY . IT WAS SONG AFTER SONG I FOUND MYSELF MEMORIZING LYRICS. YES, it all fit together eventually. There were professionally trained entertainers, a muscian, and someone is self- professesed trouble.
    I wander what they would have been able to if things had played out differently. The schedules had to exhausting. Even so my great grand kids know how to sing the theme song of the t.v.show. So did the music matter ? I WOULD HAVE TO SAY YES!

    Don Kirschner was an extremely manipulative jerk. He knew the Monkees were unhappy with being controlled musically and were producing pablum, and thought that bribing the Monkees with royalty checks could control them. The Monkees eventually did win the right to control and produce their own music, but at the cost of alienating the producers, and eventually losing their show.

      Kirschner was a businessman and knew what the public would like. He made them rich but they were kids, full of themselves, (especially Mike) and thinking they knew better. So, which albums sold better -- theirs , or the ones with the songs Kirschner chose?

    • @satanlaffing
      @satanlaffing 5 лет назад +9

      actually, the show ended cause they didn't wanna do it anymore. they wanted to move into a "variety" style show where they can do skits & bits & play & have guest come on to act & play as well. nbc wanted them to do the same ol' sitcom format. neither party could agree on a solution so it was cancelled.

    • @NelsonMontana1234
      @NelsonMontana1234 5 лет назад +2

      @@satanlaffing Like I said, they wanted to control the situation and disrupt a winning formula. That's not their job. But hey, they were kids and they did just fine, so, who cares?

    I believe Micky got his memories a little mixed up. Jack Nicholson wasn't there with The Monkees in England during the summer of 1967. Nicholson was accompanying the group the following year at a performance in Salt Lake City.
