Gen 6 was shafted. Pokemon Z would have gone HARD, especially considering how Emerald and Platinum solved many of the issues with their respective originals.
Same, I was a fan since around when gen 5 came out, starting with the gen 4 anime and cards though. Then finally in 2013, my parents were able to afford a 3ds and pokemon X for Christmas. Ever since, I’ve been extremely attached to these games, even if they aren’t my favorites. I’m most nostalgic for these titles, and I will always love them despite their flaws
Same here I was a fan since I was 7 which was roughly when the Gen 4 games came out( and did play them but they were not my games, same goes for gen 5). Pokemon Y was my first ever pokemon game that I owned for myself and yeah played every game to the best of my ability since, shame that games overall declined as time went on but I am happy to say I own all of the pokemon games at least( minus Ruby and Saphire on GBA and Gen 1-2 is on VC).
The game was straight up unfinished tho 😂 lmao the hype was crazy for this gen and they were lackluster. I love the music and Megas. That’s about it tho. I hate how this gen introduced gimmicks even tho they created the best one on the first try. It’d be fine if GF kept building on megas in the newer gens
I think that they deserve remakes the most and get a completed story. I still don’t get why Eternal Floette was given a unique battle 3D model and its own stats and signature move only to never be released or why it got its own Dex entries and has its own Home sprites.
I was an adult, 20, when X and Y came out but I was living with a couple roommates who were also pretty into gaming and pokemon so, for the first time since Ruby/Saffire, I had friends to compare teams, battle, trade, and generally just get excited for a new gen of Pokémon with. It was a very fun time and a generation of Pokémon look back on fondly for sure.
great memory! I was also in my early 20's and can remember the hype leading to this game. My first game was also Ruby, but X and Y have a special place. Good times, good times.
another really cool thing about XY is that this was the first time we were all getting a new game and generation together, instead of japan first, then months later north america, and then months later europe. it was the first time we saw an international same day release in pokemon which has been the standard since then. i remember being really excited for that and it's crazy to even think about pre-XY when we'd see japanese screenshots and gameplay before ever even getting our hands on it in other countries. XY aren't my favorite games, but they brought a lot of features into the series that i really enjoy. it's crazy that they're 10 now. time flies when you're having fun, like they say.
Y will always hold a special place in my heart. It was one of the few times where it felt like everyone was playing pokemon. My friends and i were already in college by the time sun and moon came out and we still played them but wee just haven't had the time to play like we used to
I think Gen 6 doesn’t get enough for making ALL 721 Pokemon (minus mythicals except Deoxys) catchable between XY and ORAS. It’s what inspired me to even start a living dex because it was so easy and I didn’t even need to transfer anything from Gen 3, 4, or 5 if I didn’t want to
@@thatseconddude-g4t I’m pretty sure nothing is exclusive to the friend safari. If it’s not in the Kalos or Hoenn dex already it should be findable through DexNav or Mirage Spots in ORAS
@ImyKalosManiac That doesn't make sense. Just because it was overhated, doesn't mean it's underrated. There's an difference. X & Y was one of the most influential games when it came out and it sold like crazy. Not to mentioned it introduced alot of things that's so popular that people never forget about. Mega Evolution, Fairy types, Greninja, etc. It's one of the best selling Pokemon games out there. Not as much as Gen. 1 or 8. But it's still popular.
I’m not a fan of X & Y story but I will say, I think Gen 6 is the best looking aesthetically aside from Scarlet and Violet’s models. Also let me just say I was a SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL when this game came out which means I graduated from high school ten years ago…it feels like yesterday.
Still shocks me that ILCA didn’t look towards Gen 6 for how to do chibi sprites in the overworld. A more polished version of the Gen 6 style would have been the perfect way to remake Diamond and Pearl if they wanted to keep the world the same. Just compare some of the overworld animations in X/Y and OR/AS to the distinct lack of them in BD/SP(other than that Cyrus animation… which used a mirror of the proper pose so it was wrong anyways).
Man it's already that long?! Just to let you know I still play my Y version! Its special to me since I transferred majority of my Pokemon from ALL my Gen 4 games and Gen 5 games for competitive play! Despite what people say, Im glad I never transferred my mons to Sun and Moon. Something about X and Y just flowed much better than those games! Dang, I just checked them out now! I still have my legendary bird trio named after the Valkyries from Macross and a couple of Pokemon named after characters from Gundam Wing!
Its crazy to think it was a decade ago already, I was 17 in college (England) and I hadn't played a new Pokémon since platinum. All my friends around me were meeting at Game on release date to pick it up, so I joined and got X. I fell in love with the series all over again
When this dropped I hadn’t played a Pokémon game since emerald. ( I was In college) I got about 3-4 badges and dropped it. Currently giving Pokémon another try and enjoying Pokémon let’s go on PC using an emulator. 1440p monitor 😎
These games are what got me back in the series. I stopped playing around gen 3 but I had a 3ds for KHDDD so I decided to get this one. It added some pokemon to my favorites and it was my first time doing a lot of online content and battles. So I'm very fond of my X.
It was the opposite for me lol I started getting away from Pokémon around that time, which wasn’t because of the games, but just timing where I was getting into adulthood and life was changing. Which is unfortunate because while I played all the mainline games, I just don’t remember much from Gens 6-7 and only remember Gen 8 because it’s still somewhat recent. Now 10 years later, Gen 9 got me back into Pokémon and ironically, I’m more into it than I was as a kid lol
I remember biking all the way to GameStop to pick up my pre-order copy of Y. Had to do some hustling and game trading to be able to buy a 3DS from my friend just days before. I loved my starter trio of Torchic(favorite of all), Chespin, and Squirtle. After imagining the adventure playing like a movie in my head, seeing the Yveltal cutscene was just epic. That team made an already easy game virtually play itself but at least it was fun lol.
I'm so happy to see all the comments loving on this game! It's my favorite pokemon game alongside crystal, which I played much later in 2022. I love the gen 6 music so much
XY are currently getting the treatment they deserved. Same thing happened to Gen 5 when a decade passed. Gen 5 went from being hated to it widely being considered the best Gen. I hope people start to appreciate XY. They are amazing games and so beautiful
It's just how people are the hate change. Luigi mansion and wind waker were actively shit on at launch and now they are undisputed master pieces to everyone Same with Loz MM
You can learn to appreciate coffee with enough time, it may have tasted bad when you first tried but it’s an acquired taste (just a metaphor, I don’t like coffee). That’s what gen 5 was. Gen 6 is not that, it’s just bad.
I didn't play these games until years after release due to my hesitation to spend money on a 3DS. But they are still special to me, as they were the first Pokémon games that I actively followed from reveal to release and beyond. Ten years... How time flies...
I remember getting Pokemon X for my 10th birthday the year it came out along with a brand new 3ds XL crazy how fast time flys… it’s still a very fun game to this day imo
I know I’m 16 and therefore still baby, but I still feel old thinking these games came out a decade ago when I still remember getting Y as a little 6 year old.
I remember picking up Pokemon X for Christmas the year it came out. My best friend brought his DS to school and I was so jealous. It was the only Pokemon game I've ever picked up that close to release and I've played through that game dozens of times. I never maxed out my money but my original save did have 999 hours. Easily one of my favorite and most cherished games of all time.
I remember getting Y on release day and beating it the same day, somehow managed to convince my mum to buy me X the very next day. Still surprised I had the balls to ask her for a new full price game literally one day later
Most underated Pokémon game, ive always said that these games are the equivalent of diamond and pearl which proves that if Pokémon Z came out, this gen would be praised. D/P were the first games of a new console and were pretty lackluster and slow, bad e4 and gym leader teams, terrible regional dex and felt finished enough but left you wanting more, then platinum came out and fixed literally everything (except for the slow battle hp bar). People basically forget all of diamond and pearls flaws because of Platinum so if Pokémon Z came out, X and Y would have been much more appreciated nowadays
And if my mother had some, she would be my father. Seriously, with ifs, anything is possible, even the impossible. That argument I keep hearing is weak.
Pokémon X & Y were the first game I was able to complete the pokedex. I was very proud. It was also the first time I got into online battling and I learned about breeding, IVs, EVs, etc. The PSS made it easier to communicate with others to trade pokémon and i still think it's the best online interface we've ever had. I look forward to the day we revisit kalos because I think it really didn't get the attention from gamefreak it deserved because they abandoned it straight after. It was a big milestone in Pokémon. My most favorite new feature that was added in X&Y was the fact that catching Pokémon gives you exp...not just for defeating them. I love collecting Pokémon and it was aweful grinding for exp while trying to complete the pokedex. 🎉
In my opinion this is peak Pokemon graphics and gameplay. It’s way more detailed than Red and Blue, but not so updated that it doesn’t even feel like a true Pokémon game, like Scarlet and Violet. The Pokémon graphics are still very cool vs the newer Switch graphics that make them look too cartoonish. The region and game itself wasn’t my favorite, but this style absolutely is.
I'm playing Sapphire right now but this video makes me want to crack open my 3DS and play XY again. These games weren't the best the Pokemon series could offer but I have fond memories of playing it after doing my homework. I don't have my original save file anymore but it was fun to play.
These games get so much s hit in retrospect, but I remember being hyped for the 3D game and XY got me back into pokemon. Also it may helped that I hadn't touched a main series game since Gen 2, but I was blown away by the gameplay on first run through
I’m actually playing Y for the first time, and it’s so charming and cozy. I love Mega Evolution, the region itself is fun to explore, and I love the Pokémon introduced this gen - Furfrou was my unexpected tank! I loved giving him the kabuki cut.
I do not know why people hate on X and Y, in my opinion they are one of the few new pokemon games who had 1- Great starters, 2-great new features 3- great and memorable map experience. which i cannot say the same thing about the recent pokemon games to be honest
I got Pokémon Y for my birthday when I was 6. And then I was stuck on the Furfrou maze puzzle for like a month, and had my Fenniken and Charmander fully evolved by the second gym. My final team ended up being Charizard, Yveltal, Delphox, Luvdisc, Tyrantrum, and Vivillon Polar form (I live in western PA.) Completed 2 years after I got it.
Right when these games came out I had a surgery and was recovering, so I was on pain meds while playing them for hours on end. I always get a little feeling of well-being now whenever I play them XD
Great retrospective, PaPaSea! I remember getting X version just before we would head to Valdés, Spain, in 2021, and catching what is now my favorite Kalos Pokémon and my Ace in my copy of X version -- Furfrou! And its Shiny is so simple yet amazing! Like... black poodles are a real-life thing after all. I also made an adventure music playlist on my phone as a vacation special which stars me going on an adventure with the 101 Dalmatians, and sometime after the vacation, when we were back home, I discovered that an NPC in one of Lumiose's cafes tells the player that ''he kisses every one of his 101 Furfrou goodbeye when he goes to work'', or at least something very similar to that. Some of X & Y's music is part of that adventure playlist actually, like Parfum Palace, the Kalos Power Plant, and the Gym Battle theme. So, yeah, Pokémon X and Y, I have some really fond memories of, due to the period I played my X version in, and that coincidence with the 101 Dalmatians thing with my vacation special playlist (which is called ''Dalmatian Downfall'' by the way, if you're curious. And the same Furfrou is a character in that playlist as well!). 🐩
gen 6 will always have a special place in my heart because it was the generation i got into pokemon. i was seven years old when pokemon xy came out and i remember watching the anime almost obsessively and having tons of pokemon manga and cards before i got both alpha sapphire and pokemon x. it's insane to me that its been ten years since then, i'm a senior in high school now and to me im still stuck in the mentality that this is the newest generation and mega evolution and fairy types are the new hot thing
XY was the climax of my Pokemon adventure for me, also the year I graduated high school. I started my journey with Sapphire version in 2003, got RSE (Ruby was lost in a trade for PMD Red) and FRLG, Pearl, Plat, and HG, and went down the White timeline. Never mind that I never beat any game until I beat Platinum, then beat White 1 and 2. (I eventually went back and beat RSE/FRLG) I entered the new era of Pokemon armed with all of the knowledge that I gained in the previous three generations, and honestly I had a blast in Y between the Mega Evolutions, Amie and Super Training, and just the idea of a region based off France. I learned French as my second language, so journeying through l'Hexagon was a treat in of itself. And what's with the Chesnaught hate? Not like we haven't seen Grass/Fighting before. For some reason I lost both my completed Y version and my Shiny Beldum AS to a couple of irl moves I had to make. I still have X, but kinda frustrated with Frogadier being unable to take Ramos. I was hyped for Z, but Z never came and we got SM instead. I played SM in preparation for SV's release (Don't tell Nintendo how), and all I could think about was XY. Not only did they skip over Z, tack on XY's leftovers, but somehow was the most boring Pokemon game I have ever played. Yes the handholding took out a lot of the fun. Sure, XY was easier than Plat and BW(2), but at least XY provided some challenge, and was built around Mega Evolution. SM dropped the challenge, and was not designed around Z-moves, Z-moves were finisher moves and no real thought needed. I beat Sun with 4 members first time, and 3/4 of the game was carried by Decidueye alone, I didn't have that problem in Y. I would argue that "modern Pokemon" began after XY, or at least in my opinion the games started to go downhill. I haven't played Arceus, SwSh, BDSP, or Let's Go though, but I can't see them being better than XY. I did play through Violet and had a better time (though it was almost too similar to Genshin Impact which I play a lot of), was at least more engaged and still plan on doing round 2, but XY still tops it for me. Not that XY was the best, that title has to go to Platinum, Emerald being a close second. What I am saying is that XY was the last good Pokemon game, a benchmark that hasn't been surpassed yet. Twenty years I've been with this series and I don't like where it has gone within the past ten.
I cant believe this is game is 10 years old. When it came out i couldn't get it, so i just watched munching orange play the game until christmas when i got X for my 3ds. It was so much fun, i played it every day of my winter break everywhere we went. It was the only pokemom game i played after diamond cause i could only get them on birthdays or christmas, and i didnt know about black or white at the time.
I had just graduated high school and was in my first semester of college when these games came out. I remember having a friend in one of my classes that picked it up the same weekend and we challenged each other to see who could get further in the first weekend. I think she ended up winning, but that was a good memory. I can't wait for people to look back at these games with the same fondness as Black and White receive nowadays.
10 years already. I still remember the day I bought my 3DS and a copy of X. My first Pokémon game since emerald. I skipped gen 4 and 5 completely because I got fed up with the ever increasing pokedex, and I’ve been content to play emerald (and the battle zone) for years. But gen6 brought me back into the fold until gamefreak switched the games over to the switch. 15th of October 2013, that’s the day I bought my 3DS and pokemon X. It was also the birthday of a friend of mine. Last day I saw him alive 😢
Back then I had my first paychecks from a job and I saved up for a 3DS mostly to play Pokemon Y when it just came out, I didn't have consoles growing up besides a ps1 so buying my own console and the game felt really great, also by that time I had many friends I would trade with and even got into competitive battling, lots of fond memories even if people say this game was too easy or not the best.
X and Y blew me away. I was not as infatuated with Generation 5 as the rest of the fanbase seems to be. Platinum was my favorite ever Pokémon game, and feeling like BW/B2W2 were a step down from that had me not excited for the future of the series, but XY brought me back with some of my favorite Pokémon designs of all time, mega evolutions (freakin awesome), one of my favorite regions visually, the first ever semi-accessible method of EV training, a good story, tons of new accessible multiplayer features, and so many cool secrets and mysteries that would surely be revealed in the follow up… unfortunately Pokémon Z never came and Sun and Moon were again huge disappointments to me. XY remains my second favorite generation of Pokémon and I don’t care who knows.
@@a.x.x8184 “L taste” isn’t a thing. You’re saying “loss taste” that doesn’t grammatically make sense. Let me give you a bit of perspective. I grew up with generation 1, my generation usually thinks Gen 1 is the best and only good generation of Pokémon, but I always kept playing the games. I was an adult at the time of release of Gen 4-9, I don’t view them through nostalgia goggles to make them seem better than they are, even so Platinum is by far my favorite. I LIKE BW/B2W2 I’m only saying that platinum is better, so they were a step down for me. The truly bad take that’s very popular is that Emerald is the best. That’s that generation of people who had RSE as their first games, but Gen 3 is surrounded by Gen 2 and 4 which are both substantially better in my opinion. The Hoenn fans that were in elementary school during the GBA era are definitely blinded by nostalgia.
@DarttheLegend That is an personal taste though. And that's fine if u think that way. Though I heavily disagree your take on Gen. 5. BW/B2W2 are great games and your an idiot if u think they aren't.
@DarttheLegend Oh. Ok. Well I still don't agree Platinum and X & Y are better because those games have more problems than Gen. 5 has like the slowness, pacing issue, etc. Not saying there bad games. But Platinum is overrated as heck and X & Y were pretty underwhelming IMO. Personal opinions I guess. But that's just how I feel.
Your money is most likely real. I went to the Battle Château (I think that's what it's called) all the time because the battles weren't too hard and the reward money was always good. I became a millionaire and never had to worry about money again, even WITH my addiction to cosmetics. I was initially disappointed with X/Y's limited 3D, but Y is a fond memory because it was a weird adventure for me. I played with my cousin and decided to keep restarting my game so we could both have all three starters, a process that saw my true starter end up as a female Fennekin, which I didn't even know was possible beforehand. I trained 2 teams at once and alternated them between Gyms, which made my game harder than the wider consensus that Gen 6 is easy. There were some great Pokémon like the Legendaries, Tyrantrum and Aegislash. Most of all, though, was my match with Diantha. Most consider her easy, but her Gardevoir opening with Mega Evolution was a jaw-dropper for me and I feebly fell back on Will O Wisp wittling her down as she made short work of my team...Only to Full Restore just as she was about to faint. I was down to my very last Pokemon (Diancie, which is admittedly cheap) and had no more options than just the two of us throwing big moves at each other until Diamond Storm saw me through...The battle with Az was noticeably less climactic despite my attempts to give all of my Pokemon a time to shine, but still cool that there was a credits fight, even if Az's story should have been done better.
my childhood… i loved this games and i still love them, they are so overhated, i just started to play again Pokemon y, and i still enjoy them, what a longevity! i still hope in a Pokemon Z in 2024/25..
X and y made me a Pokémon fan for life after I had lost my hype during 2010 or so due to black and white ( looking back they were amazing games though)
As someone who liked the BW concept of a completely new pokedex, I remember being disappointed when I first played Y with how hard they tried to pull our nostalgia strings (freebie Lucario, freebie Kanto starter, Champion's signature pokemon being a previous Gen Mon etc). The game certainly had its flaws but I now remember it fondly and think it was a step in the right direction mechanic-wise ❤
I played X for over 600 hours and completed the pokedex. I remember when I bought it, I bought a 2DS at the same time, and had to borrow money to buy the game.
I perfectly remember these games, I was a freshman in university and it was awesome to start a new chapter of my life with a brand new generation Pokemon game. I have a bunch of good memories of these games along with ORAS. I played a bunch with my brother online
To me, this ia a big thing! But it seems like nobody cares since everyone hate these games. But I'm going to restart my adventure on Pokemon Y, and remember that exciting feeling of going in completely blind into this adventure. ❤ I was 23 years back then. I felt too old for Pokemon. Well, I was young, because NOW I'm starting to feel old.....
Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are my very first Nintendo 3Ds games back in 2014 that I've played which got me starterd to liked the Pokemon games. My favourite Kalos Starter Pokemon is Fennekin because to me as it evolved into Braxien and then to Delphox as it looks more feminine as a female rather than a male. Delphox is very beautiful 💖and remind me of a combination of a fox, Japanese girl in Kimono and a witch with a sticking making magic. That's why I picked Fennekin as my starter Pokemon in both Pokemon X and Pokemon Y Nintendo games because it's suitable for a female trainer like me👍.
I remember visiting my dad's side of the family after graduating college about the time this came out. My bro and I where seeing a friend of his that worked at a GameStop and I had the sudden urge to pick up X. I've never owned a Pokemon game before (I have played Ruby, but it was my bro's and I only played briefly, I also played the TCG for the first few years) but I just wanted the game for no reason. My bro in turn got Y and I had such a blast with X during that entire visit, learning the type match ups and EVs/IVs, pitting my team against my bro (who would destroy me), and trying to fill the dex. The hair and fashion choices where a bonus since I was obsessed with Style Savvy: Trendsetters at that time, too. I kinda regret selling my copy. I had to cull my game collection due to a move, though I intend to play this gen again some day (although my day one 3DS has broken buttons and I might need to replace it).
Pokemon XY is one of my favorite generations. It has the BEST multiplayer system, the PSS, and it's gotten worse with each game. I also streamed it back then with a 3DS capture card and made a few friends. Good times.
this game was widely played all around my school, we had battles and rules like banning megas and using some smogon rules. Overall a great experience we have not been able to relive since
Insane it’s been 10 years, these games may have their flaws but they have a lot of strengths too and at the time they felt like a breath of fresh air after the divisive Gen V I still vividly remember going to the midnight release At GameStop in 8th grade with some of my friends, one of my favorite experiences ever as a life long Pokémon fan
I remember investing many hours into this game, I loved it so much.. but it was during my most traumatic years. As i grew up, i repressed all memories from then, and I have forgotten everything about X except for Xerneas, Sylveon, and putting a dime under the joystick in lumiose city to hatch eggs 😅 i even forgot about the rollerskates and how my custom character looked
I’m 13, so I was really young when this game came out. If I’m gonna be honest, this game helped me learn how to read. Watching my older brother and other youtubers play taught me how words sound. I will always cherish this game for that experience even the game wasn’t the best.
Honestly I think these are my all time favorite Pokémon games. The only thing I’d change (besides the boss fights needing some tweaking to be harder) is the removal of HMs like in Sun and Moon cuz I hated having to put Cut on my starter Pokémon or something like that if I didn’t want an HM slave
Pokémon X/Y & ORAS were the best attempts Gamefreak has done on 3D Pokémon. They still were not as good as the 2D games but were solid entries overall. Not a day goes by though that I don’t wish Pokémon would go back to sprite based games. Sprites just had that ability to engage your imagination on how they would act or move and Gamefreaks poor animations take that away.
Controversial opinion but these are my favourite games in the whole series, yeah the story is a bit unfinished and the models could’ve been better and it was arguably too easy but none the less I absolutely loved it, solid selection of new Pokemon, the best online system and megas tie it all together for me
I was 14 that time and went to the gaming store early in the morning of the release day to grab the game because I was so excited, it was worth not sleeping in as a teen. I replayed the game many times and wasn't really into the competitive/shiny/breeding aspect of it. It's very nostalgic as I almost every year thought to myself that X/Y is now x years old, now it being 10 is crazy to think. It's definitely not a game I will replay again as it's objectively not the best pokemon game out there imo, but it has it's charm and I'll miss the time it came out.
I remember going to Target In Burbank when these game launched 10 years ago. Saved up my allowance, kicked ass in school, and got it. Loved it. Not perfect since the story was left unfinished and post game could’ve been better. Mega evolutions were great though.
I stopped playing after gen 5 and only got back into pokemon again this year with arceus legends (amazing and unique twist on the main series style games) so now I've caught pokemon fever again I'm jumping back to where I left off with buying a copy of X and I hope it's not aged too badly but honestly looks beautiful from the vid!
damn I really liked friend safari Edit: I also liked the gts as it was. mega evos were the best gimmick introduced. everything after that was just straight up garbo. especially the newest stuff they added...
When trading online for the 3DS GTS games, when your game crashes and fails the trade, those are not legitimate Pokemon. This is why the game fails the trade.
purrloin standing is its normal form and it sits like a cat to trick people into giving it things according to its dex entries why do so many people not get that
Its not that we "dont get it", us cat enthusiasts just dont like it. It originally sat as a normal cat, the became a leopard on all 4s. We cat people LOVE that. Having it stand in the next gen was a nuclear warhead aimed at all cat-pokemon lovers and they detonated it with 0 regret. And with 0 remorse. We dont care about a lore of trickery. House Cats are tricksters themselves. That itself is a good enough explaination to all cat enjoyers. A house cat into a leopard is well within our understanding of cats/big cats and acceptance to the evolution.
I'm actually crying, cuz this game brought so much GOOD new things to Pokemon and I forgot most the map's city/town names, but remember having a blast with almost every gimmick. (Obviously ORAS was the better game imo, but X and Y led to a lot)
One day I still plan to complete the Poké Dex in my original copy of X. It will be bittersweet since not completing it still gives me something to do. I love these games. Even after playing games from each Gen I can confidently say they are my favorite.
X and Y are really good Pokemon games that added a lot of features other games get credit for. Though it had a lot of the same problems as Ruby/ saphire/ d/p etc. I honestly feel that if they did release a Pokémon Z. It had the potential to be the best Pokémon game of all time. Kalos is awesome, megas are awesome we haven’t seen a regional look more beautiful than kalos and Zygarde lore we got in the anime looks really interesting. I don’t think I’ll ever get over not having a Pokémon Z. Point is, X and Y are awesome but I think a lot of us can recognize they were incomplete
I remember being really interested in playing this game at 13 but what really tipped it over the edge for me at that time was the transition animation for the different routes (the little sign dangling back and forth) xD I just watched someone else play it on a bus ride and that settled it for me.
I replayed this game from start to finish again just recently. I can't say it was exactly as fun as the first time, as I was pretty much just beelining the main story, whereas when I originally played it, I dawdled around with side activities, still it was a wonderfully nostalgic experience all the same.
I still vividly remember this game coming out. I can't belive it's been 10 years
As do I... X/Y were fire
We're old.
I do remember it coming out, but it definitely feels like it's been 10 years. My life has changed a TON! In those 10 years.
i remember forcing my dad to take me to gamestop when it came out day one... time sure does fly bye
Ikr!
Gen 6 was shafted. Pokemon Z would have gone HARD, especially considering how Emerald and Platinum solved many of the issues with their respective originals.
Blame Gamefreak for ditching Z version for Gen 7 💀
Omg I wanted Z but they went straight to Sun and Moon and those were shit handholding

I unfortunately have never had friends to play Pokemon with.
great memory! I was also in my early 20's and can remember the hype leading to this game. My first game was also Ruby, but X and Y have a special place. Good times, good times.
@@cookiesontoast9981same
Damn!! That's crazy I was 10 when this game came out. The memories. I lost the game unfortunately :(
another really cool thing about XY is that this was the first time we were all getting a new game and generation together, instead of japan first, then months later north america, and then months later europe. it was the first time we saw an international same day release in pokemon which has been the standard since then. i remember being really excited for that and it's crazy to even think about pre-XY when we'd see japanese screenshots and gameplay before ever even getting our hands on it in other countries. XY aren't my favorite games, but they brought a lot of features into the series that i really enjoy. it's crazy that they're 10 now. time flies when you're having fun, like they say.
Y will always hold a special place in my heart. It was one of the few times where it felt like everyone was playing pokemon. My friends and i were already in college by the time sun and moon came out and we still played them but wee just haven't had the time to play like we used to
X and y was the first time I completed the national dex. Plus the user interface was really good in my opinion. I enjoyed gen 6
I think Gen 6 doesn’t get enough for making ALL 721 Pokemon (minus mythicals except Deoxys) catchable between XY and ORAS. It’s what inspired me to even start a living dex because it was so easy and I didn’t even need to transfer anything from Gen 3, 4, or 5 if I didn’t want to
@@Jlaps941i mean you need the friend safari which no one used
@@thatseconddude-g4t I’m pretty sure nothing is exclusive to the friend safari. If it’s not in the Kalos or Hoenn dex already it should be findable through DexNav or Mirage Spots in ORAS
@@thatseconddude-g4tLiterally everyone used the Friend Safari, especially if you wanted to do any breeding
And the last since NatDex got shafted from gen 7 onward XD (actually, same for me in Omega Ruby... It was not worth the effort)
A video on XY. With no Slander? My day has been made.
Honestly this game has so many underrated features
I wouldn't say underrated. More like overhated.
@@jaretco6423 no the game overall is overhated with underrated features.
@@MightyAverageI hope Gen 5 remakes are like that I wouldn’t Minf Oras Styled Unova remakes ❤
@@MightyAverage They could've also look towards LGPE's art style, those games are easliy the best looking mainline games on the Switch.

what did people not like about this game?
Now 10 years later, Gen 9 got me back into Pokémon and ironically, I’m more into it than I was as a kid lol
same!! i had skipped gens 4 and 5 XD
I love the gen 6 music so much
That's because videos like that are like bubbles where all the weirdos like you can get together to celebrate mediocre games like that.
XY are currently getting the treatment they deserved. Same thing happened to Gen 5 when a decade passed. Gen 5 went from being hated to it widely being considered the best Gen. I hope people start to appreciate XY. They are amazing games and so beautiful
It's just how people are the hate change.
Luigi mansion and wind waker were actively shit on at launch and now they are undisputed master pieces to everyone
Same with Loz MM
I love pokemon x
You can learn to appreciate coffee with enough time, it may have tasted bad when you first tried but it’s an acquired taste (just a metaphor, I don’t like coffee). That’s what gen 5 was. Gen 6 is not that, it’s just bad.
Gen 5 and 6 suck

X and Y being 10 years old just doesn’t sit right with me.
I came back to playing Pokemon X. It was the only game I was able to finish the National Pokedex.
The game that got me a 3DS XL. Wild that it's now nostalgic even though it felt like yesterday.
I played the game for the first time in 2016, it will always hold a special place in my heart
These are my favorite games. I love replaying these games!
Sad that all these 3DS Pokemon are now stuck there forever. I just started playing Pokemon again with Alpha Sapphire and Bank is completely gone.
I was in undergrad when X and Y come out and despite some flaws they are still some of my favorites in the franchise. I really enjoyed gens 6 and 7.
These games get so much s hit in retrospect, but I remember being hyped for the 3D game and XY got me back into pokemon.
Also it may helped that I hadn't touched a main series game since Gen 2, but I was blown away by the gameplay on first run through
Gen 6 was really hype for introducing megas and 3D models to mainline Pokémon. It's unfortunate the games were absurdly easy
I always get a little feeling of well-being now whenever I play them XD
man, i made a team that turned the game into ashes. Chesnaught, Simisear, Snorlax, Garchomp, Blastoise and Crobat. it was fun
The most underrated gen.
Agreed
I can second that
I cant believe this is game is 10 years old.
I remember immediately catching a Pikachu with a Light Ball at the very beginning of the game and thinking "wow what were the chances of that?"
L taste
@@jaretco6423 I never said they weren’t great games. They are great games, what I said was Platinum and XY are both better than Gen 5 in my opinion.
Pokémon Y holds a special place in my heart since It’s my first Pokémon game
Good games, fite me. It was a great time to be a fan of the series during gen 6. Not flawless but it was GREAT
Your money is most likely real.
10 YEARS?! 10 YEARS?!! JESUS I WAS 10 WHEN THAT GAME CAME OUT- IM FUCKINH 20 NOW
my childhood… i loved this games and i still love them, they are so overhated, i just started to play again Pokemon y, and i still enjoy them, what a longevity! i still hope in a Pokemon Z in 2024/25..
These games truly were the evolution for the series, and I would go so far as to say they were a *Mega* evolution to the series, eh?

Actually just restarted playing this and ORAS a few days ago. I think these games were amazing.
the 6th gen was one of the gens where i always maxed out my hours in
To me, this ia a big thing!
But it seems like nobody cares since everyone hate these games.
But I'm going to restart my adventure on Pokemon Y, and remember that exciting feeling of going in completely blind into this adventure. ❤
I was 23 years back then.
These games are what got me back into Pokémon for the first time since emerald
Pokemon XY is one of my favorite generations. It has the BEST multiplayer system, the PSS, and it's gotten worse with each game.
I also streamed it back then with a 3DS capture card and made a few friends. Good times.
this game was widely played all around my school, we had battles and rules like banning megas and using some smogon rules. Overall a great experience we have not been able to relive since
You lot banned megas? Oh god don’t tell me everyone in their mother had a Greninja on them?
@@lennydickson8845 my mistake, it was certain Megas banned like kangaskahn and lucario, but not all Megas
Idk how to tell you this.. But your Snivy is a Treecko in disguise.
I cant believe this game is 10 years old! I feel old!
Literally a huge wave of nostalgia hit me like a ton of bricks watching this
I recently started nuzlocking x and the starting segment feels closer to heart gold compared to ultra sun. Kinda rate it.
I'm nuzlocking pokemon x too 😊 finding it hard though 😅
Insane it’s been 10 years, these games may have their flaws but they have a lot of strengths too and at the time they felt like a breath of fresh air after the divisive Gen V
I still vividly remember going to the midnight release At GameStop in 8th grade with some of my friends, one of my favorite experiences ever as a life long Pokémon fan
I remember investing many hours into this game, I loved it so much.. but it was during my most traumatic years. As i grew up, i repressed all memories from then, and I have forgotten everything about X except for Xerneas, Sylveon, and putting a dime under the joystick in lumiose city to hatch eggs 😅 i even forgot about the rollerskates and how my custom character looked
this is the game that introduced me to pokemon. i vividly remember going to target and getting the last copy of y they had in stock
I teared up when I saw the gameplay of this from nappy. Super underrated game in the series and was a huge part of the poketuber resurgence
Pokemon Y is easily my favorite pokemon game of all time. Hope to see a GOOD remastered version on the switch
I first played these games in 2016 and the first games of this generation I played were the gen 3 remakes. I slept on gen 6 hard.
Still one of my faves! Great video :D
This game is what got me into competitive and actually made me look at a Pokémon’s stats. It holds a special place in my heart 😢
I’m still shiny hunting Froakie started earlier this week so my 3 day start to endgame streak is dead for the first time unfortunately but oh well
I remember going to Target In Burbank when these game launched 10 years ago. Saved up my allowance, kicked ass in school, and got it. Loved it. Not perfect since the story was left unfinished and post game could’ve been better. Mega evolutions were great though.
And it introduced me to my favorite pokemon, Greninja too
I stopped playing after gen 5 and only got back into pokemon again this year with arceus legends (amazing and unique twist on the main series style games) so now I've caught pokemon fever again I'm jumping back to where I left off with buying a copy of X and I hope it's not aged too badly but honestly looks beautiful from the vid!
Trust me on this one, ignore the 3ds games. Some of them are good (not XY) but it’s not worth the effort finding them.
damn I really liked friend safari
Edit: I also liked the gts as it was. mega evos were the best gimmick introduced. everything after that was just straight up garbo. especially the newest stuff they added...
Seriously underrated
I'm actually crying, cuz this game brought so much GOOD new things to Pokemon and I forgot most the map's city/town names, but remember having a blast with almost every gimmick. (Obviously ORAS was the better game imo, but X and Y led to a lot)
x and y are probably better than the sun and moon series imo i actually just replayed Y last week going with a full fire type team for a challenge.
One day I still plan to complete the Poké Dex in my original copy of X. It will be bittersweet since not completing it still gives me something to do.
I love these games. Even after playing games from each Gen I can confidently say they are my favorite.
Most relatable story on RUclips. I even finished the game on the same day as you!
Pokemon x was the first pokemon game I ever played. I cant beleive it's been 10 years
I remember being really interested in playing this game at 13 but what really tipped it over the edge for me at that time was the transition animation for the different routes (the little sign dangling back and forth) xD
I just watched someone else play it on a bus ride and that settled it for me.
I loved X and Y, first generation where I ended up getting both versions, I enjoyed X so much, I then bought Y.
5:00 i lovee the friend safari, it's one of my favorite features in any pokemon game tbh
I replayed this game from start to finish again just recently. I can't say it was exactly as fun as the first time, as I was pretty much just beelining the main story, whereas when I originally played it, I dawdled around with side activities, still it was a wonderfully nostalgic experience all the same.
