Pokemon in general is just too slow.. everything, everything happens too slow.
When I play the gen 4/5 games on emulators I speed the games up to 300% as a default, and unlimited % when even then I feel it's too slow (mostly when being forced to grind)

yeah a lot of the time I play HGSS I evolve Kenya so that I can keep it.
Confession: I once used a Stantler against Chuck. Stomp getting a Flinch every time it hit is what won me the battle.
You definitely got me at 8:35 with "I bet I made some people look here who weren't quite paying attention to the screen"
So, a fun fact about the screen going weird when you went out of bounds. In gen 2, the game can crash or force a reset when something unexpected happens. When this does happen, it goes into Gameboy mode. Where the game is loaded as if it is on the original gameboy. The pallet is bugged, as is the game, because the file is loaded differently. You can actually see the "This game is only compatible with Gameboy color." If you make Pokemon Crystal crash and force a reset while playing it.
I don’t know why “but I defy the odds as we always do” while walk-through-walls-ing the boulders got me so bad, but I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.

Dude, Jumpluff & Stantler are two of my favorites, with Beedrill being my #1 Favorite of all time. And, fun fact, in Gen 2, Twinneedle can poison Steel-type pokemon :)
And with Scarlet/Violet, I caught Hoppip immediately and Jumpluff is a key player on my team
If you were to make a competitive team based on your favorite mons yoh would not win. But I agree the designs are solid

This was such a fun run to watch. It's honestly wild to think about the fact that a game made for the original Game Boy is so open with so much replayability.
Fun fact, my recent run of Silver had Stantler and Hypno on the team (not shiny though xD) along with Lanturn, Weepinbell, Nidoqueen and Fearow
My recent HGSS playthrough I had a Dunsparce, Miltank, Entei, Sunflora, Mantine and Zatu.

When I played it as a kid I didn't know where to check move details so I just picked moves based off how cool they sounded. Still finished the game including Red. But it was not easy
Gen1 especially was awful for that. Iirc there was literally nothing of most info on moves anywhere. Gen 2 really made a leap for atleast giving us the option of knowing it

You forgetting to get Surf reminded me of when I was 6 playing this game for the first time. I spent a solid like 6 months where I would get the 4th badge, get stuck (because I didn’t know how to cross the ocean), and then would start over. Rinse and repeat until one day I realised there was stairs in the back of the Kimono Girl theatre

On my first ever playthrough of Pokémon crystal version, I had made it to Lance with the following team meganium,shiny gyarados,suicune,arcanine, pidgeot and lapras me being 10 years old at the time I had no idea that you could use revives and potions so I almost won against the elite four using a starter that according to everyone is useless.
I feel personally attacked, i loved taking my beedrill all the way back in the day in r,b,y. Twinneedle being my favorite move lol

One of the things I've always loved about Pokemon is there isn't really a wrong way to play. People moan about difficulty but I really like that I can just play with whatever Pokemon strikes my fancy. I played a run in Shield where I only had six Wooloo because of a meme and it was so much fun.
I would argue there is no wrong way to play a game, it' your game, play how you want.

Not gonna lie, despite how the rest of the video goes. Legitimately getting Joe Mama'd when I was NOT EXPECTING IT AT ALL, had me busting out laughing. Upvoted immediately for that alone
Best way to play gen2 for me: train 3 mon for the Johto, add 1 more when you reach the league at earliest, make use of every little event and item, use the daycare for leveling up, right after badge 4 do the whole red gyarados stuff (get the experience share early).
The "joe mama" at 30 seconds got me laughed for minutes straight.....
One time I did a “pidgey-pidgeott only” run, the only times I used other Pokémon was for the HMs. Rocked the elite 4 like they didn’t exist…. WITH A BIRD!!!😂😂😂

That shiny Drowzee was my first ever shiny in this exact game omg-
I remember wondering if the colours were just off bc the colours were simply limited, I had no idea about shinies or anything at the time.
( later also a shiny Giraffarig on my way to the lake of rage where I FINALLY met the gyarados )

@@a-s-greigit's not really what the game cares about and more developer intentions. Shiny are insanly rare to the point where you can play multiple Pokemon games without ever seeing one. The obvious intention from the developer is for the player to want to catch the super rare thing

That Drowzee is a paradox.
-Everyone catches a random shiny so catching would be the right thing to do.
-Defeating it would be the wrong thing to do so it's the choice for this run.
-But by catching it, you made the wrong move in accordance to your own rules...therefore...it was the right thing to do?
As awesome as the shiny Drowzee is, I still would've loved to see you catch and use a ditto.
Also, I like Stantler, and have used them several times before. I nicknamed it Chopper.
What's crazy is when I was little and played soulsilver I for whatever reason picked chicorita and never used it after realizing how much I didn't like it I just used other pokemon lmao
Chikorita was my starter the first time I played Silver. I had it for the whole game and never realized Meganium supposedly sucks until recently 😅
My 2nd play through of silver , I picked chickorita. I realised how crap it was by the time it evolved into bayleef. I remember having to make a choice as I wanted a skarmory on my team and didn't know what to box as I had a full party. Thus, my first ever starter Pokémon boxing occured 😅.
It’s not so bad in Crystal since you can get Growlithe to the left of Violet city and a Slowpoke in the well. Still sucks, but I gave the pear a chance 😅

Funny that playing without a starter is on the wrong way list. I started doing this recently and you really feel a difference.
The pokemon I choose is fundamentally different because the path is less clear without the foundation of the starter.
It's a really fun experience.
Not sure if I'd say it's much of a different experience at all, but yeah I always ditch my starter. Don't understand why more people don't, what's so special about the starters?
