This brings me so much joy. ❤ I had a brain tumor, and my cousins sent me Ruby and Sapphire. A friend gave me the guide, because I wanted the Regis, but they let me keep it. That Christmas I got a red SP and fell in love with each game. Emerald was the last game my dad gave me before passing on. Somehow, this takes me back ❤
This guide is a core childhood memory of mine. I no longer have my copy but I do still have my original Pokemon Sapphire, which is also the very first game I ever played. I even still remember being so excited about beating the game that I showed my mom and she was just as excited depsite not knowing anything about Pokemon. That kind of support definitely stuck with me as a kid. 😂
There should be a janitor in a Pokemon game that battles you with the opening line: "You have any water types? I mop the FLOOR with water!" and then after you beat him... "I guess most people... mop the floor with water anyway, huh?"
Yes based on the Pokemon ID, not trainer ID. You don't need to take to find it easier. If you have a lot of pokémon in your box, check with six of them, then go back to the PC, exchange them for 6 others, and keep doing that. You'll be able to find it.
Specifically the cat-o-nine-tails was used on sailors for the most part. They’re very long whips so you need a lot of space to use it. Like on a ship. I think the idea of using the phrase like this is to be able to wield something that’s difficult to use with ease. The cat part is obviously referring to Skitty being a cat as well. But that’s the obvious part. What’s not obvious is the whip cat-o-nine-tails is a weapon. That’s where it falls flat. I know what a cat-o-nine-tails is because I read history books about torture devices and methods threw out the ages😹
other methods of "traveling" in ruby and sapphire may include, but are not limited to*: HM's (fly, surf, waterfall, dive), teleport, escape rope, and dig.
The dedication to capturing the essence of the games as they were designed is truly commendable. Watching this playthrough reminded me of the joy and challenges I faced as a young Pokémon Trainer. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best way to enjoy a game is by immersing ourselves in its intended mechanics and savoring the adventure just like we did when these games first came out.
Something you might find interesting is the Pathways to Adventure series. It's a six book series of what are essentially Let's Plays in book form. There's four that cover Pokemon games (Red/Blue, Snap, and the first and second halves of Gold and Silver). Conceptually I think it was supposed to be a way for kids who didn't have the games to experience them, while also giving some strategies to those who did. I had the Red and Blue one and the guy who wrote it made some... interesting... choices.
That’s cool you explained the artwork for gen 1/2 in the guide. I was curious why pika was the old (best) Sugimori watercolor rendition and then you explained it a few seconds later like you read my mind. 😂
My first video game system ever was Pokemon Yellow with a matching GBC with Pikachu on it, and a Nintendo Power guide for Yellow, a light that attached to the Gameboy, and a magnifying screen with a sound system in it, as well as a rechargeable battery pack. It was the best present I ever fucking got. My parents were so amazing. Rip mom and dad. I love and miss you both dearly. You truly made my childhood special.
Impeccable timing, I’m about to dive back into gen 3! I picked up Emerald this weekend! I’ve been messing about with Violet, but I’m having an extremely difficult time getting into it
I remember as a kid, just getting Pokemon Sapphire. As a dumb kid, I just could not figure out the last ice puzzle in Wallace's gym. There was a promo for this strategy guide with a subscription to Nintendo Power. So I begged my parents for it, and they got it for me. I wait for shipping, and then cut to my sheer disappointment where it had absolutely nothing on the proper path for that puzzle.
I am so thankful for saphire specifically. This game is my introduction to pokemon and to this day if I wouldn't have played these games. I might not be a pokemon fan today
amazing to see you grow! love this series. I see you stepping up production wise I'm sure in another year you will have your own editing team helping you make these even better.
That was my second guide I ever had first was gen 2 and I appreciated reading through not being told everything and left to some imagination and then the stats for each pokemon in the back was just measured by how many blocks they ranged from like legends had 3.5/4 blocks in certain stats to show these are good X attacker/defenders which has me still doing it today just not competitively just to find a hidden gem that I enjoyed working towards owning
Always love these vids dude. Why don't you try and somehow seek out the individuals who wrote each guide etc? I know it would probably be a difficult task, but interviewing them for your videos would be great! I'd 100% watch
I wonder how a run would go if you tried doing a game like Emerald or Platinum using a guide for Ruby/Sapphire or Diamond/Pearl. Wonder how well that would turn out?
I love these videos, and that wailmer joke had me rolling laughing lol. Steven is also my favorite champion, and I quite enjoyed hearing his music there. Thank you for another fun episode. God be with you out there everybody. ✝️ :)
I believe the reason the guide singles out Flygon during the Drake fight section is because they mention using ice moves, and Flygon, being dragon/ground, is quad-weak to ice moves.
Fun fact: I’ve never played ruby/sapphire and diamond/pearl. Only Emerald and Platinum 😎 I just recently got and started SP and it’s pretty cool, I’ve already played it more than SV 💀
I had a weird guide from blockbuster back in the day. It was a list of every pokemon at the time, gen 1-3 and listed their location in every game. I wish i still had it but coffee spilled on it
lol good luck! Took me awhile to finally find it, you just have to systematically check every single water tile on that route until you get a hit. Once you DO though you can just keep farming them of of that same tile, I ended up catching a whole box!
I remember during the gen 4 time you could buy monthly a magazine that helps you through the story and i remember that they explained how to get shaymin and darkrai
“And if that subtle ten second or less subscribe plug upset you in a free video that took a week to make, you can just go cry about it.” DAMN! PAPA AIN’T HOLDING BACK NO MORE!
Sapphire was ny first game! I remember shopping for the game and I nearly got emerald but I really wanted sapphire to match my brother's ruby cartridge
Bro your subscribe message is so unintrusive and is honestly funny as the video goes on and we see the starter pop up in game play footage. I don't often read the comments on YT but I'm surprised people moan about that. Anyway, I like watching your videos and thanks for the time and effort. Wish you all the best Sea.
silly papasea, you forget that in the hoenn region, you can also swim, surf, dive, fly, teleport, dig, escape rope, walk through walls, go up waterfalls, go down waterfalls, you can ride the ski lift up the mountain, you can ride the ski lift down the mountain, you can black out at any time, bike up mountains with mach bike, bike down mountains with mach bike, slide down mountains while on foot, fall through the floor in some places, use the acro bike to jump between rocks and platforms, use an elevator in some buildings which is a transportation method, you can go up or down the stairs, climbing up ladders, climbing down ladders, falling through the ground in the 8th gym, etc. so yeah, because of that your entire video is invalid and I will absolutely make sure to cancel you on twitter and other places for forgetting *some* methods of transport, for I am always correct and everything I say is true. obviously kidding, great video though for real.
This brings me so much joy. ❤

My god, that sounds awful. A brain tumor and a passing of your dad. I'm sorry for your loss.
What happened with the tumor?

Mirage Island is not based on a day of the year but rather a pokemons ID, hence why trading is so encouraged.

A cat-o-nine-tails is a tool used to flog people, i dont know why thats in a section about natures tho
Naughty nature lol
@josephrasgado1782
Me: That's a midevil torture device"
You: "Harder daddy" uwu
Hehe...
Dominatrix skitty 😂

I love these intended videos, the cropped guide pictures spread throughout the video just make the the viewing experience so enjoyable to watch.
Yea, the ‘Nintended’ videos are a lot of fun.
You know it’s gonna be a fun day when PaPaSea uploads
Uploads?

Got to agree
other methods of "traveling" in ruby and sapphire may include, but are not limited to*: HM's (fly, surf, waterfall, dive), teleport, escape rope, and dig.
Never would have caught the regis back in the day without this
That Wailord joke was hilarious, well played
I was caught so off guard lol
He made it before in a previous video but its still funny xD
It was made so casually I almost missed it

Glad to see the Oil meme made the video lol
The identity theft joke got me 😂😂 loved the reference. You are my favourite Pokétuber for a reason!
Oh that guide brings back so much nostalgia. RSE is by far my favorite generation and my most spent time in Pokémon.
amazing to see you grow! love this series. I see you stepping up production wise I'm sure in another year you will have your own editing team helping you make these even better.
I have that exact same strategy guide, and still have it in pretty good condition too. I remember it came packaged together with my copy of Sapphire.
I prefer your way of saying to subscribe tbh 😅 it flows well and isn’t thrown at us
3:33 oh thank goodness, I thought it wouldn't be in there after you didn't mention it at the beginning. Truly a staple of these videos
The Mary Jane joke about the glass blowers and the town next to it with hearty vegetation was gold.
Yesssss I've been waiting for this! I had this guide when I was a kid!
My favorite thing about og strategy guides was the paper texture, they felt so good to turn.

I tried that and they rarely have social media
Time to follow in the great tradition of Bill McNeal's Hypothetical Interviews? (RIP Phil Hartman) @@PaPaSea
“ I thought I saw a wailmer when I got here but it just turned out to be your mom “ 🏆
you know its gonna be a good video when it starts with a Toby Fox track

That Wailmer joke was uncalled for.
I loved fighting the interview people id always get a kick out of going to a TV after and seeing them talk about you beating then on TV
As a gen 3 kid I’ve been waiting on this one

The way you so casually throw jokes in had me cracking up
Love this series been watching for a year or two good stuff papa sea love u
Omg I remember getting this included when ruby and sapphire first released in 2003 it was so dope
This guidebook is why I checked for mirage island everyday for about 3 months with no success 😭
12:41 did bro say negotiate instead of navigate lol
Wow. Pokémon Sapphire was the first Pokémon game i remember putting in hours of work in. I wish i still had my physical copy. Great upload!
I literally lol’d at 15:00 with that joke. Totally caught me off guard 😂
Caught the Taillow but unfortunately now there is no Twitter to follow ya 😛

A skitty using a cat-o'-nine-tails is not an image I ever wanted to think about.
“I don’t even know where to get a ground type at this point in the game”
Dewford cave has ground type Geodudes
8:48 Breathing volcanic ash is pretty much the same as asbestos
In the guide book, the last sentence for Glacia's info paragraph is incomplete. I know because I also have this book!
Ah yes Pokémon Garnet
Wow, I'm playing through hoenn rn, so this is perfectly timed. BTW I'm trying to find feebas and it SUUUUUUCKS!
lol good luck! Took me awhile to finally find it, you just have to systematically check every single water tile on that route until you get a hit. Once you DO though you can just keep farming them of of that same tile, I ended up catching a whole box!
@stephenbeaty1221 Yeah, I wanted I different team than what I usually use, and now I regret it
I remember during the gen 4 time you could buy monthly a magazine that helps you through the story and i remember that they explained how to get shaymin and darkrai
They might be criminals, but Team Magma payed for entry.
We just gonna ignore how in the book it says Archie has a Golduck instead of Golbat 😂
I saw that but didn’t register it until seeing your comment lol
Recently played through sapphire for the first time in years. Loved every second of it
Good vid 🎉
There's something magical in the early generations of Pokemon games
Missed Big Papa. Awesome, having another video to Hammer away at!
I upload every week to this channel I didn’t go anywhere!

Oh snap! The random "your mom" jokes are back and I love it!
Subscribed so I didn't have to cry about it.
I loved the mom joke 😂😊
Great video
Interesting to see different guides
Please come back home son, we miss you, we still have your room had you left it, all your games and stuff,
7:40 aaaaaaaaand this is why i start gen3 (OG and remakes) with mudkip dude, you could've had access to marshtomp
I had that guide! The last remaining thing I kept was the dex in the back and the braile, and moves guide and nature
Nothing bad bout having a favorite pokemon
Mines trubbish and I even got it tatted on me
"We've looked at one or two..." referring to Pokemon guides 😂
I MISS these books and lil booklets we used to get with the games
Man I miss that book and using it on my first play through of sapphire, ohhhh to be a child again
I'm trying to listen to you while Frisk and Asriel are jamming out in the background.
I used to own this guide when i was a kid. It saved me when i was hunting the regis
Great video!
I had a Shadows of Almia guide, that I read so much it was basically held together with tape
So I'm fine with a little beat up strategy guides
14:46 GameShark
Swalot fans rise up 😂
I think a official guide says kirlia or ralts doesn't evolve. So if you use one of those you can't use that line
Sapphire is one of my favorite games!! This is gonna be an awesome video!
8:42 Ah yes, it evolves into Makuhita.
I still have this guide somewhere. Complete with cat vomit stains, because I'd leave them lying around on the floor by accident >.>
Choosing Brendan as the protagonist and treecko as the starter be like: a man of culture I see.
Sapphire was ny first game! I remember shopping for the game and I nearly got emerald but I really wanted sapphire to match my brother's ruby cartridge

Is what it should have been
Honestly swalot is a decently bulky pokemon
oh man I had this book. It's gotta be in a tote under my parents house SOMEWHERE.
This was fun to rewatch and compare to the other guide you got for ruby. Have you tried looking for off brand guides too?
"other methods...?"
your flying pokemon: 😑
cat-o-ninetails is a type of whip that has 9 whips coming out of the end btw
These games are insane, especially for their age!
The "other methods" of transportation may actually mean the cable car or HMs Fly and Dive!
