Clearly, Blaziken’s plot armor is due to how much he cares about his trainer. How could a starter Pokémon faint on his trainer’s birthday? Congrats on another year around the sun, and for the massive milestone!
To this day, I call Ralts "Wally". I played this first in Japanese because that was before world release, so I called Pokemon whatever they looked like as I had no idea what their English names were at the time.
You can actually skip Winona's gym until the e4 the only hm her badge lets you use is fly and though it's convenient it's not technically necessary so you could have battled her 8th lol
You got really lucky with that Ralts. When I tried to find one in Ruby, I found both a shiny Seedot AND a Surskit (which is a 1% encounter, rarer than Ralts's 4%) before finding a Ralts!
I always look for Ralts but never find one when I want it. The way I see it is if I go 35 encounters without spotting it or find a Surskit first, I'm moving on.
I remember my first full playthrough of Ruby. I wanted a Spinda since I always like having a "little guy" on my team (ex. Castform in my first Omega Ruby playthrough). I looked for five minutes to get one with a pattern I like and named him Drunkle. I debated on whether or not to keep him on my team and replace it with Zangoose but after he was basically my saving grace against Norman, I for sure kept it.
I also like having a “little guy” on my team! A few months ago I played Diamond using a Pachirisu. Discharge and Super Fang can be really helpful moves. Getting items of Pickup was great too.
I was around for Gens 1 and 2, and I thought they were rad AF, but I have an specially _powerful_ fondness for Gen 3. It just looked and felt so novel when it first came out; kid me was absolutely losing her mind over it.
I got into Pokémon really late myself, not playing until Alpha Sapphire, and so I have nostalgia for gen 3... even though my first game was gen 6. THAT GRANITE CAVE THEME THO
I started playing Gen 1 and have played through it the most, more than most people have put into the more recent games. Gen 1 is the sound of actual nostalgia
When I was in the 6th grade and was playing gen 3 I thought my Ruby team was so good when I discovered you could breed your starter. I pretty much just relied on multiple blazikens and groundon very pro gamer moves. I had played 3 generations of pokemon by that point but didn’t learn how team building worked until I started trawling forums during fire red and leaf green
Dude. You just opened a new genre of coverage on Pokèmon games. We already got Let's Plays, Playing games as Nintended, Nuzlockes and its various iterations, and the many many _can you beat...._ ones. But this, beating a Pokèmon game as the _player first played it_ is a new venue for Pokemon players sharing how they have each experienced their playthroughs. There will be some similarities, sure (I'm looking at Gen IV), but each and every player of Pokèmon has a potential to show how they all played the game when they first got their hands on it, especially if these are from Pokètubers who can narrate their playthroughs like how you do. Premium content as always, dude. I've found you on your first Nintended, and now looking on how you'd play the rest of the games as _you_ intented. Cheers and more power to your channel! Congrats on 100k!
It reminds me of MandJTV’s April Fools video Can You Beat Platinum, where it was just a play through using whatever he found along the way with no gimmicks. It was really enjoyable just seeing him have fun with the play through without having to worry about certain rules
PaPaSea: "It's a Sonic game where they give a Sonic character a gun" Eggman holding Amy at gunpoint in Sonic Adventure 2: "Oh guess I never happened then"
My strongest memory of Ruby was having to boot up my brother's illegal copy of it when me and my other siblings were trying to complete the pokedex on Emerald to get the Johto starters. The save function for that cartridge didn't work anymore, and Zangoose was the only pokémon we couldn't get in either Sapphire or Emerald version of which we both had regular copies available. So we'd have to boot it up and play it through to Fallarbor in one sitting to catch the Zangoose and trade it over.
Sapphire was my first choice before eventually getting the others. My decision as a kid always seemed to be influenced by "I can get Starmie in this version". lol
3:50 There's also another wall-phaser near Lilycove, an older gentleman in the fence maze west of the city. Just go past the small area blocked by a cut tree, sneak past him, and let him see you when you're under him.
Reminiscing on getting and playing Ruby for the first time led me to look back on when Costco had a large section for games, and GBA games were kept in the open, except each game was in a plastic case with a large handle on the bottom.
see, MY ideal/coolest pokemon team would definitely include absol. i look at it now as just a neat pokemon with a low catch rate, but as a kid i looked at absol like it was a legendary bc THATS how cool and rare it felt to me (and i hope it knows i love it just the same even today) anyway this was fun! like hanging out and just playing pkmn casually with a friend. excellent vibes (edit) happy birthday btw!!
"I sent out Pistachio to face his Salamance because I forgot Fairy-type doesn't exist yet." Sorry. Just went through my head as something I'd do on reflex. Lol I remember when I first got Saphire (with the guide, primarily for the move lists) and saw all the abilities and going, "Oh. THIS is going to be fun to try and remember."
This is by far one of my favorite series on RUclips, it's a shame I don't have more time to enjoy both the videos here and on PaPaSea Extra (Which you should subscribe to)
Gardevoir is a pretty and powerful Pokémon. I’m sure one of the dex entrees says it can make a black hole. It would be cool to see you play Pokémon Ranger and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games how Nintendo intended.
It's fun to get to know some personal info about one of my favorite PokéTubers, and this is actually the first ''How I Intended'' style video I've seen from you. That's a nice new way of presenting challenges! Also, I know I'm a little late, but -- happy birthday, PaPaSea! 🎈

Generations also seems to support this. Basically, it's implied that Brendan is meant to be the canonical protagonist in the games. Also, Brendan is in the anime, but only as a cameo in the opening of certain Pokémon movies.
Congrats on 100k and happy birthday! Back when I first played sapphire I thought swampert's sprite was ugly so I had a level 87 marshtomp and nothing else
I really love these "how I intended" videos because its literally just "im playing through a pokemon game like a normal person" but the title makes it sound way more grandiose lol
I like how you used a wingull as a flyer only. I did that my very first game of Sapphire and had him just chilling in my party until I caught rayquaza and saw that it knew fly
I used my Master Ball in Sapphire on a Magnemite in New Mauville. It broke out of all my other balls and I was so mad I just threw the Master Ball at it to assert my 10 year old dominance over GBA cart.
My main takeaway from this video is how hard casual playthroughs are for people who don't have a team of "basically Swampert, with a couple of sidekicks". Child me never knew the struggle of grinding or worrying about gym leaders 🤷🏻♂️
Happy Birthday, and congrats on having so many subscribers! I’m playing Pokémon Emerald right now. The way I play Pokémon games is that I tend to cycle through several Pokémon rather than using just six. Though this usually means I have to grind and do more rematches, heh. I’m using Pokémon like Gardevoir that I’ve always liked, but I’m also using Pokémon I hadn’t thought of before to round out my team. I caught a Dusclops because I needed a wall, and I love her already.
Never comment, but I’ve been watching almost all of your videos. I am super happy for you man - hitting 100k is awesome. Hope I’m here to see you hit 500k!

The NPC blocking the door to the Elite Four is only scripted to check for that badge. This is because, aside from HM use, the developers knew Fortree's Badge can be completely skipped. Just like Dragonite in Gen 1 only learns Dragon Rage, so like what MandJTV said, “A Dragon, wasn’t actually weak to another Dragon!” (in Dragon Types Then vs Now) I always thought some type matchups are weird, like Fighting doesn’t resist Normal, so most are prey to strong STAB Normal moves. 5. 19:03 I used Belly Drum + Slash with Indecisive the Linoone. Wallace and Juan are both Water-type specialists. Glacia is the sole Ice-type trainer in Hoenn. The best way to remember stuff like that is remembering the fact Gym Leader and Elite Four types don't overlap (doesn't include Champions, as seen in Johto, Emerald version and Black 2 & White 2). Only exception would be Kanto Gym Leaders in Gen 2's post-game, but that's only because it's hard to spread 17 types for 19 Gym Leaders and Elite Four members in one game (technically 20, but Blue doesn't have a type specialty).
