Adding to this, the same thing applies to ORAS and the Generation 7 games. This is great for ORAS because it theoretically allows you to do a more or less faithful run if you pass on exp share and using megas.
@@obits3 Exactly. Speaking of which jesus christ people hate the Gen 7 games way too much. They have a lot of problems but have you seen how much content is there? There's arguably more than what B2W2 has to offer.
@@Sacred_SwordGen 6 was hated a lot more. Seems you’re forgetting the praise USUM got which imo was unwarranted. They were solid despite changing up the gym formula but X and Y were amazing games.

The Gen 7 hate is so severe that he skipped over all of the gameplay improvements and new standards Sun and Moon set: - Regional Variants - Removal of HMs in favor of Ride Pokemon - Putting Rotom into the Pokedex (Which Gen 7 does the best out of every iteration of this concept) - Ultra Beasts establishing the concept of a class of pokemon that are distinctly different from regular Pokemon (Carried over in Paradox Pokemon) - Z moves establishing new battle mechanics that can apply to *every catchable pokemon* instead of only a select few (like Mega Evolutions) - Totem Pokemon being the precursor to raids *and* Alpha Pokemon in Legends Arceus *and* Titan Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet(He only touched on its relation to raids) Like, I get that people don't like how dialogue heavy Sun and Moon are or that the routes aren't as expansive. But those issues are *worse* in Sword and Shield. At least Sun and Moon gives you the agency to walk from point A to point B on your own without getting stopped by 3 NPCs who inist you need directions to a location you can *see on the screen*. Lastly, while Scarlet and Violet suffers from the worst bugs/performance issues of the franchise and some really bad graphics, it's arguably one of the best stories we've gotten in the series too. Not to mention the characters, I think the only one people legitimately hate is Geeta, and even then she's not really that bad she's just bland compared to the rest of the cast. Most of the other rankings are completely understandable but the general disconnect for these three is mind boggling.
Gen 9 has some of the worst graphics, bugs/performance issues and also has it so the open world isnt too open world because you still have to follow a specific way of playing or else youll die to way higher level trainers. Its not fun. Story? Yeah its amazing but Gen 9 deserves the bashing it gets. Give me 1-5 and 7 any day and I will be WAAAAAAAAAAY happier
Regional Variants were one of the best additions to the franchise, agreed. The removal of HMs came with the price of incredibly dumbed down level design, ultra beasts and Z-moves suck. The former look incredibly stupid and the latter was terrible from a gameplay perspective since you never knew which Pokemon carried a random one-button nuke, plus the animations were way too long and the trainer dance when executing it looks incredibly stupid. Totem Pokemon were okay but they basically were the substitute for gym battles and that was underwhelming whereas raids in SS and SV were side content. Performance issues affect the experience in open world games a lot more than they do in linear games because you spend a lot of time just running around, hardly a surprise that it severely affected his opinion on the games.
Nah SwSh might be shitty stories but it does go quicker than SM at any rate. They are more boring ro play but the story is less obnoxious to go through.
@@shewolfcub3it doesnt really deserve the bashing tho, like its giving gen 5 on its release. everyone hated it at the start and now its ranked one of the best pokemon games in the franchise, watch the same happen to SV in 10 years. Also this severe hate might even discourage game freak and cause them to make another 3 generations of shit plots jus like what happened with g6, 7, and 8
@@eml.isdead Gen 9 deserves all the bashing, and is an example of garbage. it wont be looked upon favorably and critics wont change, and many in the fandom still hate it. Gen 2-6 supremacy is where its at
I will always remember how in Pokemon Diamond this person with all Japanese letters in their name traded me a shiny Mewtwo and a shiny Palkia for my level 2 Bidoof and Starly near the beginning of the game(I had no idea cheating was a thing at that time so I was in absolute awe) What a legend that person was.
@rizot0ny1996 I never got to do it cause I didn't have internet at the time, but I remember you can put your pokemon available to trade in a separate room if you were away from your game and if someone accepted it, they would trade it for one of theirs. When you got back to the game, you'd have a new pokemon if someone accepted your trade request. Was a new way to trade if you weren't playing the game or were away from your DS
i really liked the vibes of sun n moon. The environments and music were great and pokemon designs were dope and regional variants were a game changer. It felt like a vacation in hawaii
I don’t get the hate for sun&Moon either. They remain ones of my favourite entries and I still find myself more likely to go back to them than SwSh or SV. When they were the newest entry I sure more people referred to them as a return to form after XY were seen as disappointing but that opinion seems to have flipped since.
@@BlueAversion Personal opinion, but I didn't play either until about 2019. I had a lot more fun with XY than SuMo, mainly because I felt generally annoyed at the continued stop-and-go of SuMo from cutscenes. I also disliked the idea that you used ride pokemon like a random Tauros, which took away from the personal experience of using your own pokemon to navigate paths and such.
@@BlueAversionhonestly out of the three you mentioned, I think the only one I’m never replaying is SWSH, because while SV is buggy as shit, in terms of story, it really feels like a successor to both BW and SuMo. SWSH just feels like it provided almost nothing of value outside of its Pokémon, and even then, it introduced my least favorite Pokémon of all time in Coalossal.
@@BlueAversion The issue with X & Y i had is that it lacked side activities that wasn't battling and your friends they could have done a lot more with. Sun and Moon i liked the pokemon and trials and characters but the map interface and routing were bad, as well as the 'side activities' were more like forgettable occurances that happened
@@Kurby_uxz Gen 5's story is about N, Bianca, and in B&W2 Hugh. And Gen 9's is about Arven, and to a lesser extent Penny. Yet they don't get anywhere near the hate Sun and Moon do on that front even though Lillie's story IS on par with them. No pokemon game's narrative is actually ABOUT or really focused on the player character except Legends Arceus. Sun and Moon's biggest issue will always be its godawful long handholding opening sequence that lasts literally hours which is the ACTUAL reason no one wants to replay them. I LOVE Sun and Moon and even I can't really get myself to crawl through that hell of a Melemele sequence before the game finally lets you do your own thing.
Most of the hate for BDSP (which is valid imo) comes from the fact that the last remakes we got were ORAS, and we wanted Sinnoh to get revamped in a similar way. Instead they decided to port Diamond and Pearl with different graphics and some relatively minor alterations. Ironically the only ORAS-like thing they did was getting rid of the Battle Frontier for the second remake in a row, which only pissed people off more.
Also how pokémon following you sucked, some pokémons evolution mechanics were stuck to the post game, they kinda removed secret bases which could've been so fun with online, no platinum content and pokémon league being a bit too difficult compared to a fairly easy game
it's still kinda wild to me how game freak though decided to take one of their most anticipated games in the franchise and completely hand the entire development of the game over to ILCA, a company that primarily serves to assist mainly with graphics and video/trailer production for other game companies. and of course to add to that there are a bunch of returning bugs that were fixed in platinum and half the game's file size was stuffed into a "day one patch" to place that burden on the consumers storage space, just so they could save money by shipping the game on the 8gb cartridges instead of the 16gb ones
The games were incredibly, broken at launch, and with simplified models, they should’ve been able to put more Pokémon than the original 493 from Gen 4. We went from firered leafgreen, having 386, heartgold soulsilver with 493, Omega Ruby Aplha Sapphire sporting 721, to Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl with… the same 493 from Gen 4… You’re telling me a 3DS can fit 800+ Pokémon, also regional forms, and mega Pokémon models on one cartridge, but this Nintendo switch cartridge, which we’ve seen them hold massive games like Xenoblade and Skyrim, can’t handle the generation eight nat dex? That’s a load of Bouffalant manure. BDSP had the potential to be the competitive game for generation eight Nat dex. Instead, it was a barely functional inferior remake. The only thing it had going for it over ORAS was not shiny locking the starters and legendaries.
@@Deadpool42111 he literally called usum the least improved games while it has the most content added compared to its pier. i agree with sun and moon, literally noone plays it and thats mainly because usum exists
@@sparky3801Nah, way too simplistic and linear maps, I agree that sun/moon and ultra sun/moon are at least okay, they are at least the best of the post gen 5 era.

I'm gonna try again soon, tho. but I think other people don't have issues reading everything and all that. I think I have adhd or something. and us type of people hate that crap. no other games dialog bothered me
US/UM have so many improvements over Sun and Moon, it's crazy people don't notice. It has a whole new incredible boss rush postgame, it cuts down on cutscenes, adds more sidequests, and makes the whole game harder overall. It's just a straight up improvement in every way except ARGUABLY the story, and honestly I think the US/UM story is good anyway.
"Cuts down on cut scenes" isn't good enough when there are still SO many unskippable cut scenes. I don't know why Gamefreak hasn't figured out how to let players press start to skip...
I can forgive almost everything else that I disagree with, but to slam Sun and Moon for their story, among the best stories in the main series, is unforgivable.
@windrose5988 I mean, if you think more words is automatically better story, or that there is even any real correlation between the two, I dunno what to tell you
>best stories in the series It's like being the fastest turtle, you are still slower than 99% of everything else. Being the best pokemon story just means it's a 2/10 story.
@@kevinj9270 In terms of main line you'd have a point, but for Pokemon games in general I'd have to disagree. The Mystery Dungeon games usually have good stories.
I love how he says ultra beasts aren't explained. And yet they literally are they literally say in the game that they're from alternate dimensions. What more is there to explain??? Are you expecting them to of gone to the alternate dimensions and study them of something?? Also the fact that somehow each person who used a zmove suprised you on which type itd be is crazy considering most of the time it's just their type they battle with not that hard in single player to battle around
They never really explained how many of them there are, why only some came to alola, and what else is in ultra space. As for the z-moves, if it wasn't obvious, I was talking about battling online not against NPCs
agreed lol. UB are supposedly alien an alternate dimension so having lesser lore on it kinda is the point, count that with the technology on the in game lore, Sun and Moon being placed on F tier but BP on B tier 💀💀💀
I don’t agree, I also prefer platinum and white and black 2 for several reasons : The music is better, the available Pokemon are better, the region is better (I don’t really like kanto and johto), but yes, HGSS have the best post game, that’s undeniable
Oop, just so you know, PaPaSea... Pokemon Let's Go: Pikachu and Eevee were actually supposed to be based on Pokemon Yellow because they came out on the 20 year anniversary of that game. If things were different from Red/Blue, that's probably why.
Nah the story still didnt make sense. In yellow you were still Red and your rival was Blue. You are defeating Team Rocket for the first time. In the Let's Go games, you are a new character and both Blue and Red exist in this world (You can battle both of them). So if Red is around that means Team Rocket has already been defeated yet this new character is also defeating them and Giovanni for the first time. It's not a huge deal but definitely messes with the timeline.
For BDSP what I don’t understand is why give us platinum dex mons when you can’t get their evolutions until the postgame. You can catch Gligar in the underground but because it’s an almost identical remake you can’t evolve it into gliscor during the main story without outside help because in DP the item to evolve Gligar was locked in the postgame because the DP dex doesn’t have most of the new Sinnoh evolutions in it.
I know the main reason for me wanting the Platinum Dex was more for an improvement in available Pokemon. The BDSP dex only really has 2 fire types. (The chimcar and the ponyta lines). Which makes an elite 5 member using fire types a bit... Off to say the least. I know more (e.g. houndoom) were available in the underground. But it still felt off since they weren't in the dex until post game with the nat dex. Honestly outside of that I'm mostly fine with BDSP's dex.
13 reasons why BDSP are the WORST remakes of all time: 1. Faithfulness: Unlike other remakes, BDSP literally copy/pastes 90% of diamond/pearl(2006). You cannot copy almost everything from a 2006 game.. (Remember its a remake not a remaster!). Almost everything is copied: All dialogs, the storyline, the chibi art style, the national dex, old pokemon encounters and even the Poketch were copy & pasted to this game. Pokemon games have been improved in the past years and had many quality of life changes like 3D art style, overworld Pokemon encounters and reusable TMs. None of these changes were adapted to the game which is just sad. This game is too faithful and faithful sounds more like a excuse for lazyness. 2. Not-Platinum-Based: So they copy & pasted 90% from the old Sinnoh game but not based on Platinum? Diamond & Pearl had several weaknesses and Platinum fixed many of them and included many Quality of Life changes. Here are some Platinum improvements over Diamond/Pearl: It extends the storyline with additional content, new dialogs, new characters like Charon and a new map Distortion world (loved it). The rival was a bit too weak in Diamond/Pearl which was fixed in Plat. The Poketch has a reverse Button. It has the battle frontier. And finally: the Sinnoh dex which was baaad in Dia/Pearl was fixed. The bad sinnoh dex in dia/pearl has only very few Fire Pokemon (very weird). Gym leaders were forced to use weird mons in the main game like Electric gym leader using Octillery or IceType gym leader using Medicham (WTF? Despite Sinnoh having enough Ice/Electric mons) and also many sinnoh mons were restricted to the postgame. Thats means many of the favourite sinnoh mons cannot be used in your team for the main story. But Platinum fixed this issue and created a NEW sinnoh dex which fixed all these issues which made the main story like a sinnoh game. ALL of these great changes of Platinum where NOT included in BDSP. This means BDSP uses the OLD sinnoh dex, OLD dialogs, OLD storyline, NO new character like Charon, NO distortion world and NO battle frontier. That makes BDSP a worse Sinnoh remake than Platinum which was released in 2008. (Imagine a 2008 DS game of the same Region beats you in ALL aspects. WTF) 3. EXP-Share & Friendship-System: One of the most hated features is the EXP-Share system which often leads to WAY more exp than in the past games. In my opinion, the EXP-Share is not too bad. BUT diamond/pearl were not designed to be played with the new EXP-Share system. So if you include an EXP-Share system, you have to increase all levels of the pokemon (from opponent). But they didnt which makes the difficulty of this game too easy.Basically, my whole team was too oveleveled. And the friendship-system is the worst luck-based system i ever saw. A feature that increases the Critical hit-chance,removes paralysis, lets me dodge 100% accurate moves and even lets me survive moves with 1HP. WTF did you smoke gamefreak? And the worst is that, you cannot make any of these optional. Because of that many players who love to do a nuzzlock in Sinnoh, prefer the old DS games. 4. No Innovation: This game not only copy & pastes the majority of its content, it adds nothing new to the game. Lets review some good remakes: HeartGold/SoulSilver (HG/SS) were Gen 2 remakes and included some storyline from Crystal and added many new stuff like the pokeathlon, battle frontier (from sinnoh), gen 1 map/storyline, a complete national dex and the pokewalker. HG/SS were not copy & pasted, but actually remade the game and added good new stuff. Also Alpha ruby&omega saphire (ORAS) have new changes like new art-style , new designs for Team magma/aqua, new Mega-forms, new Primal forms, changes to dialogs and storyline and the complete national dex. BDSP on the other hand does not provide any kind of major change in the game which makes this game really boring. It does have a new Underground which has overworld pokemon, but that is nothing special for 2022 and the ramanas park was neat but nothing too exciting. 5. Underground/Super-Contest: The old underground allowed to create your own living room with furnitures and set traps to troll friends online. Both were removed for a statue system which is really boring. Collecting statues and the effects of the statues are really disapointing. The Super-Contest used to be a fun-mode where you had many different options and varities and had to have good reflexes to do the correct moves at the correct time. Now all you have to do is Press A at the correct time and use 1 attack. That makes this mode so boring and disapointing. I mean, was it really that hard to let the player press like 4 different buttons instead of just 'A'?? 6. Art-Style: Many of us expected a modern review of Sinnoh in a 3D human like Art-style. But they decided to go for the Chibi-Art-Style. Everyone has different tastes but in my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style ruins many serious moments of the story line of this game, especially vs team galactic. It feels like all the emotions of the characters were removed. The reason why it was used in Diamond/Pearl was because of the limited hardware. In my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style waas the wrong decision and does not suit a switch game at all. 7. Only Gen 4: BDSP has a national dex which includes the pokemon from Gen 1-4 which is basically the same as Diamond/Pearl. As a player who would have loved to see at least some Pokemon from Gen 5-8 in Sinnoh, i am very disappointed. At least some Pokemon post Gen4, or some new forms or at least add Sylveon in this game. Not even mega-forms were included in this game. The fact that 95% of the megas are from Gen1-4 and the underground being the perfect place to grind the mega-stones, makes this decision even more disapointing. The reason why diamond/pearl was limited to Gen 1-4 was because there werent any other new pokemon. The reason why BDSP limited the game to Gen 1-4 is because of lazyness.. 8. PVP: On of the worst things in this game is everything arround PVP. The worst disrespect a main series pokemon game can get, is when GameFreak calls that all the competitive tournaments including the world championship will not take place in BDSP (WTF?). Unlike Sword/Shield, you have no option to search for PVP matches which makes it way harder to find battles. But the worst thing is the grind for a PvP team: TMs are not reusable (WHY?!). For some important TMs like Earthquake, you have to grind for 80BP (WTF. Thats a lot of Grind). Also you cannot catch pokemon with hidden abilities except those from poke radar. To get the hidden ability you have to grind for the ability patch for 200BP (WTF. Grind competitive to create a competitive. Nice system). By putting important PVP items behind such ridiculously high grind walls, it makes creating a PVP team disgusting. 9. Events: The events were also copy & pasted from Diamond/Pearl. Same Shaymin event, same Darkrai event. And other events are only accesible if you bought other main series pokemon game (Why..). And finally some garbage "events" which include some useless statues. Meanwhile, the 3 year old SW/SH getting better and innovative events like new PVP cups/tournaments and some legendary shinies. In my opinion the events in BDSP are disapointing. 10. Bugs/Glitches: Holy Moly! This game had so many bugs and glitches! You dont even need hacks, when the game itself has to many glitches. Many of them where completely broken. Many Pokemon clone glitches and item dupe glitches ruined the game. You could even get infinity money, create your own shinies (WTF), make your pokemon 6IV and let any Pokemon learn any move. I used to be in a discord for trading in BDSP and because of the glitches, the trade market was only about getting shiny 6IVs etc. Not to forget to mention the soft locks which made you restart the whole game which can happen for example in the ice gym. Usually every games has a few bugs. But this one had too many and too many game breaking glitches. A very hyped game like this shouldnt be developed by a 3rd party company.. But Gamefreak had other plans.. 11. Controls: The controls of this game feel weird and uncomfortable. Characters move in a grid which looks so weird during the storyline. The pokemon who follow me often block me in a bad way. The underground has many inivisible walls which makes moving in some rooms horrible. And finally the control with the cycle are the worst. The cycle in pokemon games are a beloved feature but in this game.. It feels so uncomfortable moving with the cycle, I sometimes even prefer walking. 12. Standards: A 2021 game should adapt the standards from the latest games (Sword 2019). The BDSP-standard isnt nearly as good as Sword/Shield. Many items, many attack moves, renewable TMs, dynamax, new pokemon, old moves without heart scales, more customization, max Raids or ranked battle stadium. None of the mentioned were adapted into this game -> BIG Downgrade for 2021 pokemon standards! 13. Price: Dia/pearl/Platinum: 40$ and Copy/Paste BDSP with Bugs:60$ -> Bruh.. Conclusion: It feels like GameFreak didnt want to do a Sinnoh remake but wanted to milk some money by releasing the highly demanded Sinnoh remake. The fact that, they hired a 3rd party company who never developed a major game, only supports this theory. Not forget to mention that, BDSP had a giant day one patch which was essential to enjoy the game. The fact that they released Legends Arceus almost 1-2 months after BDSP release also supports the theory, that they didnt care at all for this remake. Because of the release of Legends Arceus, the hiring of ILCA, the amount of glitches, the boring events, the exclusion of VGC, the 0 Innovation in this game and the fact that the majority of the game is copy & paste of a 2006 game (Dia/Pearl) which is worse than a 2008 Game (Platinum), makes this game the worst remake of all time in my opinion.
Right now Legends Arceus is my favorite Pokémon game. By far even. I absolutely love that it's basically a purely story driven Pokémon game. Making it more an RPG than other Pokémon games. And the whole idea was "Catch all Pokémon" in the end (to meet Arceus) so I focused more on catching Pokémon while exploring than battling. Which also helps with completion of the Pokédex.
I couldn't agree more, I love this game so much, the lore is so great too even stuff like the old verses that no one ever talks about, I really hope we get another legends game with better graphics and I don't care if it's hisui, unova, johto or any other region even a new one
Same, I played it for the 1st time recently and was having so much fun just running around catching that I decided to make it a "Professor Laventon Challenge" (catch every pokemon in an area before the Noble)
I’m one if the few who didn’t love LA ,more siding with the Pokédex interrupting the story story so much I didn’t complete the game. I’m not really a Pokédex completionist anyway, so the fact that I was walled from being able to move the story on robbed the joy from the game for me and I stopped playing it. I did love the look, and the sneaking mechanism, and a lot of the game, but locking story behind the Pokédex ruined this game for me.
It’s basically a visual novel(nothing wrong with VNs, but it’s supposed to be a Pokémon game). I couldn’t even finish because it wouldn’t just let me play the game. The opening bit was just an hour of A mashing and completely destroyed my excitement for the game. Stop holding my hands and let me play.

@@morpheel I did give it a chance. I got about halfway through the challenges before I just couldn't take it anymore. I was bored out of my mind. At least Scarlett and Violet left me alone after the beginning, even if did take forever. Again, too much hand holding. I don't appreciate being treated like 3yr old by a game company that used to trust that their players had brains. The challenge is gone. While I understand newer players might need more help, it's not fair to alienate your longtime players by forcing it on them. Ultimately, I think they need to implement a difficulty setting or at least a choice for players to skip the tutorial session that those that want/need to extra guidance can have it while the players that know what a Pokemon is(because they always feel the need to explain it to us) can get on with the adventure.
Unpopular opinion, but I actually love X and Y! Do I wish it were a bit less easy? Absolutely. Am I biased by mega evolution being present in the game? Quite possibly. But overall I think they’re solid games, and I have some good fun every time I replay them :))
also the moment where Floette returns to the man was impactful when I was a kid. I honestly wouldn't be watching this video here as I am much older if I didn't have so much appreciation for Pokemon because of XY, both the anime and game as a kid.
Diamond and Pearl have some huge highs but huge lows as well. Most notably for me is the dex prior to post game, aka having ice and fire type specialists with only two ice and two fire type lines available before the post game. Also, locking awesome new evolutions in the post game felt kinda bad. Platinum really fixed so many of those flaws though.
I agree. If they had followed more along the lines of Platinum, BDSP could have been great. Instead, they were just okay. Two fire types? Really? I never understood the dev's decision to make it that way.
I remember seeing a RUclips poll that was like "You're in sinnoh and want to use a fire type. Who do you choose?" Infernape Rapidash Lopunny Drifblim Steelix
Just as bad with Grass and Electric Types, Grass you've pretty much only got Torterra, Roserade, or Abomasnow, and electric you get Luxray or Raichu, loads of not very good water types though lol
@@lunayoshi I appreciate that they at least put some platinum pokemon in the underground, but I do wish the could have update the gym/elite 4 teams (not necessarily the puzzles or anything). Also, giving a way to buy some of the evolution items that are post-game locked (ex: for Weavile and Gliscor) would be fantastic as well. I feel like those would just be relatively small changes that would significantly improve the games.
Gen 7 are indeed good games, but the early "tutorial" in Sun/Moon is just way too long and goes very slow. They did actually fix that issue with the UltraSun / UltraMoon games.
they are really good, the only problem i have with them is the handholding. but future pokemon games (SwSh) have them(to some degrees even worse) and still ranked higher. SwSh were more linear in the map and have arguably the worst story. This tier list is objectively and subjectively heavily biased XD
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were such huge improvements over the base Sun and Moon. They’re some of my favorite games ever. Also X/Y aren’t nearly as bad as everyone makes them out to be. B2/W2 are my favorites but I think gens 6 and 7 are criminally under appreciated.
X7Y are my favourites. I think it's probably because I started to get into pokemon when they were just announced/released & I had to wait half a decade to get myself a 3DS to play them (my parents were very 'if you just look at games you'll go from straight As to failing all your classes')
USUM was one of the biggest cash grabs of all time. Gamefreak took 60 bucks for slight changes in the story and gameplay in a game, which was one of the worst in the whole series and still makes two games out of it to make more money. So mad people accept this and buy these games
XY really wasn't that good tbh. ORAS was solid though. I personally love Sun/Moon, but USUM is far superior but after having spent so much time with S/M, USUM just felt underwhelming when it came out. Those two games alone are the number 1 reason for me to never have 'second' games again, even though Emerald and Platinum are IMO two of the best games ever made. DLCs are just better for a sequel.
(Respectfully, because people cannot handle me expressing my point of view to disagree with his opinion..) The fact that he ranked sm/usum so low genuinely pisses me off
Especially post game USUM. Gen 7 had too much dialogue but other than that there was a modest difficulty to the trials and the post was game was way better than SwSh. In SwSh other than the Pokémon League you had nothing going on
The two key problem that Sun and Moon have are also present in Sword and Shield. Being extremely linear and constantly being stopped for dialogue. It somehow became worse in Sword and Shield.
@@Onion_57 And from scarlet and violet, its clear linearity is their strong suit. Cant believe game freak once again is ruining pokemon just because of whiners. We cant have a region exclusives filled with new pokemon anymore We cant have a region with a normal escalation of difficulty anymore Nooooooo, we have to make every pokemon game pander to nostalgia and people thinking open world is "better"!
Dunno, I do kinda agree, surprisingly. Scarlet and Violet atleast I was compelled to finish it, Sun and Moon on the other hand was just... unrewarding? Boring? I dunno exactly what word I should use to describe it, but it just got to the point that I dropped the game entirely out of a lack of desire to go back, and I say this as someone who was EXTREMELY hyped for the game prior to it's release and that really liked some of the characters of the game itself, like Guzma, but even that was not enough to keep me hooked throughout the entire experience.
If sun and moon are ranked low because dialog, I think gen 8 belongs there too. The stopping you in your tracks to spit dialog and drag you around your nose is just as bad if not worse. I actually quit Sword because I came out of the wild area, saw Sonia waiting to derail the gameplay, and just couldn't go through with it. Took me a year to get back to finish the game.
I love all Pokémon games and I never really understood the hate for new games/Pokémon until now, scarlet and violet have got to be the worst Pokémon game by a significant margin even if the framerate and graphics were perfect it’s till a boring story, with the most awful Pokémon designs and names 😭
I quit Sword after the 8th badge but before the champion tournament because I just wasn't having fun; that was the first Pokemon game that's ever bored me, and SV were even worse
@@shadowrose8907 I found sword and shield decent I managed top put in 70 hours, but it boads zero replayibility the only reason I played that much was because it was the first open world and it felt new but once the novelty wore off all that was left was an empty shell of a game, scarlet and violet are 10x worse though I agree

It's always kind of sweet to see people having their own relationship with certain games. Like, I've got fond specific memories of certain games - playing Diamond alongside my brother playing Pearl during summer vacation at my grandparents' house, fighting doubles at the battle tree in USUM with my partner, and watching one of my favourite streamers play Nuzlockes of BW and BW2 and feeling the rush of his Pokémon journey.
I will just say this tho! In the sun and moon remakes you do get a fairy trial, which in the original games, you don't. In the originals you get the fairy Z crystal for free once you reach a certain point in the game
I’m gonna be honest. Gen 4 is an amazing gen, but Diamond and Pearl are AWFUL games. They added so many amazing mechanics and so much QoL that they forgot to make actually good games. There’s a reason Platinum isn’t “a bit of an improvement,” but almost required to experience Sinnoh. DP are easily F-tier imo, I think they are the only core series Pokemon games that are unfun to play.
Yesssssssssss, SO AWFUL. Fire is my favorite type. Pearl literally killed my interest in pokemon for an entire decade. I still hate it. And it's not even like I hated everything! I actually really really loved some of the new pokemon. But there was just sooooo much about it I couldn't stand that overall I ended up hating the game.
Completely agree. I think for many people, DP were their first games, so they're blinded by nostalgia (not saying there's anything wrong with that, as we all have biases towards our first pokémon games). The lack of fire types I really can't understand. I can forgive the first two gens for lacking variety in certain types; but, by generation 4, the roster of Pokémon meant there was no reason for that decision. I'm also glad that Platinum fixed the massive pacing issues with the story
Nah I doubt that. Even putting the performance in question I've seen friends playing diamond/pearl and love it more then black and white. Don't assume it's nostalgia. Imo plat is better but hey what can you do
While I get Sun/Moon aren't for everyone, I think the Ultra games get a bad wrap. This is the first generation to remove HMs. The Exp share can be turned off so the player can choose when to level the whole party. Zygarde cells are a fun, casual side quest throughout the game. Ultra wormholes add a ton of legendaries and ultra beast battles like the wormholes in ORAS and random mon to encounter. While I think it's a little random, the Ultra Necrozma fight is a good challenge. Repeating the elite four has several alternate fights for you to defend your title. Team Rainbow Rocket is a fun boss gauntlet. SOS chaining is one of the most satisfying shiny hunting methods once you put in time to get a team for it. The Pokemon Archipelago is a fun side thing for growing berries, geting treasures or training. There's also optional areas and caves that can be revisited in the post game. I think the unskippable cutscenes give the game a bad reputation, but I've been going through to 100% the game and even just getting all of the TMs makes you see all of the side content I missed my first time. But it's personal preference in the end.
I agree with all of that. If the cutscenes were slightly less invasive and Ultra didn't come only a year after Sun/Moon, I know folks would have those games as some of their favorites. I think Ultra being 'third editions' but split pissed people off the most (I know it did for me). Because X/Y were games that needed a third edition but has not received one, yet Sun and Moon can be entirely skipped for the Ultra games.
@@crowqueenamps "yet Sun and Moon can be entirely skipped for the Ultra games." this here is the biggest thing wrong with them Sun and Moon shouldn't exist as they are and USUM should have been Sun and Moon.
The cut scenes in sun and moon weren't as bad as cheren and the girl not leaving me in peace (B&W) is my take😅...Sun and moon was something different and I enjoyed it more then PLA
UltraSun and UltraMoon got what they deserved after making so the Rotomdex literally never shuts up ever with no way to shut it off or drown it in the ocean and just spouts off the same useless information all the time on the bottom screen when you just want to go and look at the map. 🤬
Deducting points because they dont explain everything about a mechanic thats deliberately meant to be unexplained is a little silly imo. The appeal of Paradox Pokemon and Ultra Beasts is that the player is meant to infer what they are, ESPECIALLY with paradox pokemon. IDK man maybe its different for other folks but I find that stories get cheapened when everything is explained and sometimes having some loose threads for the player/reader to piece together can give that piece of fiction an extra kick. Spoilers for SM/USUM and SV + DLC What we can infer about Ultra Beasts is that they come from alternate realities and are meant to be the Pokemon equivalent to alien invasion and invasive species that wreck havoc on ecosystems. We know that Ultra Space (the space between dimensions) is filled with Ultra Energy and the Gen 7 box legendaries are naturally atuned to it and can freely travel through ultra space. Necrozma can also travel through ultraspace but it feeds on that ultra energy. Ultra energy is also what causes Z-moves, and Beast Boost, and is essentially a form a light, and that are very important for the health of universes. We don't get more information on Ultra Beasts because they're a natural phenomenon in another world, meaning research opportunities are sparse, but they're just alt-reality pokemon, there's obviously infinite potential to explore there because any ultra beast is going to be just a piece of its natural ecosystem.. What we can infer from Paradox Pokemon is even less because they're brand-new discoveries and are deliberately kept secret from the general public due to where they're found and why they were brought to Paldea; literally almost no research has been done on them, the dex entries pull from dubious sources and paranormal journals -- they technically don't even have names in the traditional sense. They're the Pokemon answer to cryptids, and unearthly creatures from out of time you would see in pulp science fiction: dinosaurs in the center of the earth or robots from an apocalyptic future. We know that they were supposedly pulled out of time into the present, but due to the straight up contradictions in their existence, players started to speculate that they were infact figments of imagination brought to life by the Tera Phenomenon, which already seems to have some reality-bending abilities. However with the DLC the implication is that Paradox Pokemon come from alternate timelines, likely from the past or future, but from timelines that are likely disconnected from the timeline of the present-day story of SV. I think the Terastal phenonmenon is honestly as well-explained as Mega evolution and Dynamaxing (arguably better than Mega Evolution since there's technically two origins of mega evolution, kinda? The ultimate weapon and the ancient meteor?): they originate from an ancient legendary pokemon with that has a ridiculous power that has limited reality-warping abilities that allow Pokemon to change type, can allow for time travel and is weirdly corrosive? Pretty similar in concept to Dynamaxing, but with different applications; they just don't focus on the legendary compared to previous games until the DLC, and for once it's not portrayed as a villain, but just an animal with a over-powered defense mechanism. The fact that Terapagos arrived on Earth 2 million years ago makes it almost impossible to infer its origins or why its Terastal power exists, and that's the point. I think moreso than any other game in the series (except Red and Blue) SV's story deliberately leaves things to the imagination because of the atmosphere it's trying to create which hinges on its mystery. It answers things to an extent but leaves things to the imagination. Now I think it mostly pulls it off, but even I'll admit that I thought the DLC might have left a few too many things unanswered (HOW DID KIERAN REVIVE THE LOYAL THREE THO)
My biggest issue with Sw/Sh is that it's just so shallow. Like, beyond the gyms, there's just nothing there. There's no exploration what so ever. Aside from the first town, I'm pretty sure every other town after it has a gym in it. There's no side paths or side dungeons, no alternative paths between towns. Even the Wild Area, this big open expanse of land and.... There's nothing really there except pokemon and raid dens. No cute/interesting story interactions, barely any trainer battles. I'm not one to hate on the games, I dont even care they didnt have the full dex in (Neither did Sun/Moon/Ulta for that matter), it's the fact it's an entirely shallow experience.
while i agree with you, i would rather have a shallow, but good experience, than a deep, but bad experience (ie SV). the gameplay in SwSh was very smooth. the gyms actually felt like fun events and the graphics actually looked great imo (especially compared to SV) Would i have wanted a more expansive region with more things to do and a better story? of course. But all in all, I would take SwSh over SV any day of the week
@@KingJH0510 fair enough i guess but the series today feel bland when you compare to older titles which had a lot more exploration while having a good story (good for pokémon standards)
Playing devil's advocate on this point here, I think part of that was they were trying to make the story progression feel faster bc of the sports tournament theme. If you're traveling for a game you're not going to be hitting every little town in the area, you're gonna focus on getting to your game. However conversely you likely would be enjoying the city with the stadium a fair bit so I think they should've fleshed the cities with the stadiums out a bit more (Ballonlea got screwed so bad)
The objectively best tier list is as follows: Whatever game you grew up with while having good memories: S tier Whatever game you grew up with while having negative memories: D tier
I think HGSS are S tier games. They added so much more that wasnt mentioned but definitly were game changer. We had the battle frontier from Platinum ( imo the 2nd best battle frontier ) , the Pokéthlon, which i personally loved, a new safari zone with an additional area, a lot of legendaries to catch, amazing events and mystery gifts, 16 gym leaders that can be rematched, the pokéwalker and so much more. They are my 2nd favourite Pokémon games after B2W2 followed by Platinum.
I feel the DS was the best years for Pokemon and honestly it's peak. With the move to 3DS things got either dumbed down or tried to rely on some form of gimmick. I enjoyed Diamond, Black was like a breath of fresh air in the series with the sequels expanding on it's story and then Heart Gold is just the best game in the series. If the only downside of it is some level scaling then it's about as perfect as could be.
Actually X and Y were really more ground breaking than what you want to give them credit for. It's the gen that brought a lot of balance in the game with the introduction of the brand new fairy type. We didn't have new types since the OG gold and silver. Also the steel type was nerfed, not resisting dark and ghost anymore. That really changed the balance of the game alongside other changes like for the grass and electric types and they really didn't do anything like that before. The safari friend was really a neat feature to get hidden abilities and the breeding section was really overhauled making it way more accessible. That was the first gen I bread a lot of the pokedex and I know it was the same for a lot of ppl. Tier lists are personnal yes, but I think you could've talked a bit more of what the game brought at the time besides the awesome 3D and Mega evolutions features. That said, not sure if I would've ranked them much higher than you lol
Unfortunately, when it comes to Pokemon games, 90% of the player base will rank the game only from the start to Hall of Fame, and that's it. Also, many of the balance and combat changes go unnoticed because once again, the average player never noticed/understood it to start with.
@@knowing1399 because pokémon was never a competitive game to begin with people will play it to chill and have fun without caring too much. The only reason competitive pokemon exists is internet. If youre into competitive gaming go into mobas or shooters
X and Y actually got me back into Pokémon. I just wasn’t a popular fan of gen 4 or 5 and even to this day I’m so tired of Game Freak relating everything to the Sinnoh region somehow. Like the Sinnoh starters feel like they are in every Pokémon game right now. I picked up X and Y and was impressed with what was offered. Like it introduced new Pokémon while also giving the chance to play with old favorites. I think the surprise I felt when I got to pick the second starter was one of the best moments I felt playing Pokémon in a long time. Think there’s like a cafe that I spent a lot of time in as well which beating trainers would give rewards like points and getting to eventually fight stronger opponents. It was exciting.
@@blakemayo2898 it was the same for me. Gen 4 and 5 really weren't it for me. At the time I found X and Y really amazing, just everything about it. I played consistently every gen since then. And yeah the café was indeed a good place to grind iirc, a lot of xp and I think big nuggets or something as a reward as well. The additional starter was really nice and the you had the OG legendary bird as a roaming encounter. Anyways, it was really really great back in the day
For 12 years or so, I didn't play any Pokémon games and the first one after this time was Ultra Sun. I had a blast with the game, everything was fresh and new, different from before, I could choose clothes. So when I see Gen 7 is basically universally hated, I find it really funny. I guess it all goes from the moment in your life you play the game.
putting the let’s go games above gen 7 is wild, i get the cutscene interruptions but SWSH also has so much unneeded dialogue that continues to interrupt you and the game is soooo slow. i think it’s totally fine if you hate Sun and moon, but damn, below let’s go is so crazy to me
@@GrabEmByTheJoystick Even that it's kinda of an ass complain, because bro, your are playing a jrpg at the end, not expecting to read a ton of dialogue it's something that only pokemon fans really complain
@@willfern1096 You're not playing a JRPG you're playing Pokemon, when a new game in a series has something way more tedious than all the previous games in the series people have a right to be annoyed. If it was a GOOD story it would be fine but it's Saturday morning child cartoon trash which hurts for the teens and young adults who like to play these but have no interest in the show.
@@BryanPopeProductions I completely agree with the statement that the story in it self doesn't help in this aspect and I should've been more clear about my point. But yes, pokémon is a jrpg, it's core mechanic is commonly seen alongside games such as the Megami Tensei games, for example, but of course this doesn't mean the series isn't original and have it's unique aspects that differentiate it from other games from a similar genre. Although, this culture of not carrying about pokemon story were built by itself and I can't blame you for thinking such thing, but pokemon fans complains about it as if it is the worst thing in the world to fucking read. Pokémon BW, 1 and 2, Legends and SM has, for pokémon patterns, a interesting story, but yeah, it's still very childish and it needs to improve.
@@willfern1096honestly the biggest gripe was usum coming out and saying 'fuck you' to sumo and people did NOT like that a finished game came out in comparison to what looked like some rushed coding.
I will say, sun and moon are better than some games you listed high. Yeah, the cut-scenes are annoying sometimes, but the games themselves gives us a lot of new stuff. The best thing they give (in my opinion) is the fact that you don't have to teach pokemon HM's
Damn, I don't agree at all with your placement of Sun / Moon and Sword / Shield, haha. I acknowledge their flaws but still really, really like them ❤ Fun video, dude 👍
i dont think anyone in the comments agree with him on that. felt like he had a bad experience due to something else, and decided it was the games fault or something. for example, he complains about the amount of text. but never talks about the ungodly amount of backtracking of the games including ruby, saphire and emerald. which to me are far worse offenders. i have no problem being able to go back to deal with something, but those games were really taking the piss.
Same here. And they just had such a great feel back then. It’s hard for these younger guys to come from gen 7 for example and try and enjoy red or silver like we did. At the time, they were amazing games.
Pokemon Silver is my all time favorite. The duplication glitch I found on accident when the batteries died when i was saving at a pokebox in a Pokemon Center. And Emerald is my second favorite. It held my attention for the longest amount of time, X and Y are my third favorite.
SV in D tier is honestly wild to me I know I probably like it more than most people but it's a blast. The characters are fun, the new Pokemon are great, tera is a fun gimmick, paradox Pokemon are awesome, the DLC is a blast I'm sure it probably helps that I didn't have any HUGE glitches in my time at all, just janky fps which didn't really get too much in the way of my enjoyment My Pokemon hot take is gen 5 is massively overrated and I know that is definitely not something many people online seem to consider. A lot of the Pokemon seem so forgettable to me because it felt like GF had to make a bunch of filler because the first games were all new Pokemon for the main story, so it feels like you get a lot of "here's a [Kanto Pokemon] but slightly different". The story never did it for me when I played through them, unova was meh to me, and I honestly don't like the animated sprites. Something about how they move and bend and stretch the pixels looks so bleh to me.
I think most people actually really like it; it's just that the people who don't like it are much louder than usual (since there's been a string of "bad" Pokemon games that have caused a lot of tension in the community) That being said, I love SV as well, it's pretty high up there as some of my favorite games in the series so far. I especially love the characters who join you on your journey, they are full of personality, with some very interesting interactions between you and the other characters you meet, which I've always enjoyed
For real, the glitches and performance issues have been heavily exaggerated by a salty community that likes to hate everything about new Pokémon games. The Pokémon designs are absolutely amazing and some of my new favorites came from this generation, even considering nostalgia for some older ones. I’ve put more hours into this game compared to my playtime of older games combined when playing as a kid. I remember when everyone hated BW and now everyone is overhyping them. I think they’re great, but people are now claiming they’re the absolute best in the series and think that’s kind of funny since they used to be the most hated. Give it 20 years when SV remakes are rumored to be coming out and people will start claiming them to be the best. I feel like this cycle occurs every time we’re expecting remakes and the generation expected to be remade becomes the most beloved and the newest at the time becomes the most hated.
I honestly didn't enjoy them. It's OK to have different opinions. I WANTED to enjoy them, but I felt that they were open world for the sake of being open world instead of having a really good reason to be so. I didn't encounter too many glitches myself, but did find the frame rates irritating, and found myself frustrated all the time when playing it. Of the 3 paths, I only liked Arven's story. The team bases were kind of boring to me and the gym puzzles were generally silly. Yeah, not the games for me. If others enjoy it, that's great! I just didn't, and I'm not trying to just echo others' opinions. I played all the way through the Elite Four and Nemona battle (so gave it an honest try), but didn't like most things about it. We keep forgetting that people are allowed to have opinions. I've accepted that newer Pokémon games might not be my thing, which makes me sad (except for Arceus, I LOVED Arceus. Solid A tier), but I still have all the older games. I've been considering giving SV another try, but I can't bring myself to do so.
@@lazyhippie6139 I think it's perfectly fine that you didn't enjoy the game as a whole, but at least you played through it all. There are so many people who took one look at the framerate and the minor visual bugs at launch and immediately hated it, without even giving it a proper chance. I much prefer to hear opinions like yours, that are more meaningful than just "poor framerate" or "bad graphics". Also, I loved Arceus as well! It's near the top of my list, alongside Scarlet and Violet, honestly :D
You ain't joking. While it does have a fair bit of pure blasphemy.. such as the shiny-locking... 😮💨.. It's also got amazing potential once they finally release all the restrictions. And it's just fun with all the events, shiny hunting, and trading with the community in discord servers and such. This dude goes straight to hell with this list.
As someone who was around from the start, here's about how I would work the generational duo entries based on quality of the system they're on and what came before: #9: Sword/Shield. Just plain bad. Almost no redeeming qualities and the postgame is paygated. The dex and megas were cut, and they lied about the reasons why. Outclassed as an RPG by DQ11. Maybe it's unfair because I skipped, but what I've seen really hasn't changed my mind. #8: Ruby/Sapphire. Very regressive from Gen 2. No content outside a bad playthrough story. Sacrificed freedom for a linear narrative that got copy/pasted over and over for most future games: 8 Badges in predetermined order, pointless friendly rival, and an evil team trying to catch an apocalyptic hellbeast to destroy the world for stupid reasons. Having opposing teams to try to add variety between the two versions was a neat idea, but they bungled that by barely having them use their elemental types. Music was too screechy to be enjoyable. Outclassed as an RPG by Golden Sun. #7: Black/White. Would these characters please SHUT UP?! It's frustratingly linear and story focused, but the story isn't interesting until the finale (which I admit was really cool), so it feels like I'm spending all my time mashing A through dialogue or biking back and forth until Audino spawns. The entire region is a straight line where you're literally handheld onto the first route. Recently did a Nuzlocke to try to make things more interesting, and it still felt like a slog. At least the postgame is decent. Good city/route themes, but underwhelming battle themes. I guess the biggest issue is how inconsequential they were in terms of new features, making them feel like filler. If you were to remove one generation and it's contributions, Gen 5 would be the least impactful. Way too many features were locked behind streetpass or a defunct online service that sounded like it was barely useable when it was running. Forcing you to play the main game with only new mons was a neat idea, but they compromised by probably having the worst designs in the franchise. Too many of them felt like 'we have gen 1 Pokemon at home.' Why couldn't you even farm berries without the dream world? The flaws aren't aggressively bad, but there are a lot of them and there isn't a whole lot positive to say here either. Definition of mid. #6: X/Y: Story was boring and way too easy, but this was pretty much the best time for the competitive scene. They finally corrected Gen 3's sin of the effort value system by making it transparent and giving you an easily accessible method of EV grinding without needing to consult the internet. Breeding for perfect Pokemon is reasonably doable for the first time with proper time investment. Also, Mega Evolutions were a great feature that gave specific old Pokemon a time to shine. Also some that really didn't need a buff. Fairy types were added, but I'm not sure if that really helped or hurt balance. Online access was peak in Gen 6. I have to dock them badly for the group xp share though. #5: Sun/Moon. Probably the second most story heavy games behind Black and White, but the story is finally original this time, and it revolves around some of the best characters in the series. The repeated story of Gen 3-6 had gotten really stale, so they finally came and shook things up. The boxart legend isn't going to destroy the world. Instead it's a friend that you watch grow who helps you out when you need it. The gym system is gone to take a crack at the more creative Totem boss fights. The evil team are just a goofy group of local drop outs who are kind of hard not to like. It's still a linear game, but at least it feels fresh. Oh, and HM's are gone. Z-Moves were kind of a flop compared to Megas, but that didn't stop me from causing havoc with Porygon-Z. Also I absolutely love Alola as a region. Being based on Hawaii with fitting music gives it fantastic atmosphere, and the whole place has a wonderful sense of family and community. I also really dig that they gave something for your boxed mons to do. #4: Scarlet/Violet. I kind of think about these games as the antithesis of Black and White. While those games were little high/little low, but overall skippable, Scarlet and Violet go to both extreme ends of quality. They are an embarrassingly glitchy and buggy mess that clearly needed more time in the oven. But if it weren't for that, I would probably put them at #1. They finally bucked the linear formula entirely and let you do whatever you want whenever you want. Granted proper level scaling would have made things much better here. It didn't come at the cost of story either. In fact the theme of adventure and finding what you value plays into the openness wonderfully. Paldea's worldbuilding is fantastic, and I cared more about Arven's dog than any of the world ending legendary nonsense of the earlier games. The final battle against the AI professor in Area Zero is a highlight of the series. Terastelization is probably the most balanced generational gimmick, since it's equally available to everyone, and you can only do it once before recharging. There still isn't a complete natdex, but the Pokemon's models are actually really well textured, and the animations have soul again. Looking at you, Blastoise's hydro pump and Typhlosion's neck flame. Overall, it's like they had an incredibly delicious recipe to cook, but were forced to pull it out of the oven way too early. #3: Red/Blue. Let's face it. These are the main reason to buy a Gameboy. The hard part here is knowing what to write, since they've already been discussed so thoroughly. It's a story of childhood rivalry and adventure. You start as a kid heading out alone into the world, bonding with these colorful critters, always one step behind Butts, but you progress as a team until you're the best there ever was. Legendaries aren't part of some over dramatic story, but powerful beasts to reward you for exploration. They're glitchy games, but in the best way possible. Being able to break reality if you choose to spawn hundreds of items, or skip story segments, or spawn whatever Pokemon you like makes them an even better experience than their technically superior remakes. Of course that N64 Stadium compatibility gave them a heck of a final challenge if you were hard core enough for it. #2: Diamond/Pearl: I remember when these games were first advertised one of my friends looked at me and said 'Pokemon is trying to resurrect.' I'd say they did a pretty solid job (granted Platinum's excellence might be influencing my opinion here). The story isn't worth talking about, but I think this was when they finally perfected the battle formula. The physical/special split was the last really major change, and not much aside from the fairy type has changed since. Also significantly, this was when they finally added wifi. You no longer needed friends in the same room, because you could trade, battle, and watch other peoples' battles across the planet. There's also plenty of side content to do here, with the Underground being one of my favorite features to date. The Poketch made excellent use out of that bottom screen, featuring the best version of the item finder. I also think this is the generation where they finally became generous with movepools and almost all species had appropriate options available. #1: Gold/Silver. I absolutely stand by the claim that these are the Super Metroid or Mario 3 of the Pokemon franchise. They took what worked with Gen 1, ironed out all of the kinks, and went absolutely ham with innovation to the point where it could barely fit the cartridge. The story and themes were about the old and new, letting you straight up revisit areas and characters of the first game while fully embracing the passage of time. The games are true sequels and make full use of that fact. The day/night cycle and different events based on days of the week make the world feel way more alive than a GBC game has any business being. Your character from the first game being the secret final boss was a surprise well remembered to this day. Steel and dark types were huge contributions, and steel being a newly discovered type was integrated into the lore at the time. All of the old mons were basically reinvented with the special split, with a lot of old guys also getting deserved evolutions. New moves are more tactical, so experienced battling isn't just clicking super effective moves all the time. Breeding, shinies, held items, Pokerus, and so much more all originated here. They even had sense to make Ditto breedable with anything, and stick it on the route by the day care. The music always hits its mark, whether it's trying to be chill, adventurous, or intense. The overall difficulty leans toward the easy side, and I see a lot of people run the games down for that. I think they're missing the point. GSC weren't meant to be games you just sit down and push your way through. They're meant to be an experience where you slow down and take the world one step at a time as a day-to-day adventure. Go headbutt trees until you get Heracross, or maybe take on the lucky egg hunt. Pairing up with the old games and using all of your resources to prime your team to take on Stadium 2 in its entirety still feels like the ultimate non pvp battle experience in the franchise.
@@bonthebunnycat667me too. When I played crystal on the virtual console I would pretty much never use most of the TMs because you don't get another. At least you could Clone them with a glitch but gen 5 fixed that, so you no longer needed to use a glitch to use multiple
I agree with most of this list my only couple of gripes would be that bdsp should be c tier at best, as with some of their 'improvements' some fun features got removed or deminished like with secret bases, also the fact they came out and stayed buggy for so long that there are still restrictions regarding these games blocking some legit Pokémon from being transferred out. And then I feel you are doing SV a bit dirty while sure there is a number of issues I still feel the openness and the slight increase in replayability help it a bit, but especially i think it is helped by the blueberry cafe having actual challenging battles, which have really been missing since X and Y, as such i think it should at least be placed ahead of SWSH
Awesome job with this! It’s clear you put a lot of thought into each ranking, and I like how you factored in what each generation added to the formula! I personally really like Sun and Moon, but… yeah, they have WAY too many cutscenes, which makes replaying them super annoying.
Huge agree. Sw/Sh was the by far least-ambitious entry, and the first objective downgrade the main series has ever had (not counting Let’s Go’s 153 dex count)
Ageed, how come Brilliant Pearl is ranked higher than SM is beyond me, the game didnt even include Mega's or any new gimmicks that separates it from its original counterpart meaning its a copy and pasted game
@@wrestlingenjoyer so, this is what pokemon has become now? games are being jugded by their expected amount of useless gimmicks? jesus fucking christ, we need to go back
The gen 7 Alola games are my favorite because I really love the story. Really feels more like a Lillie story and that made me really love her as a character. I remember when I first played these games and I cried when she left at the end. I didn’t want her to go! She felt like a real life friend to me despite being a fictional character in a video game.
gen 8 over gen 7 is just... certainly an opinion. sun and moon's intrusive dialogue was very annoying and it certainly had its flaws but it had some of the best characters and story in the whole series!
@@bassmasta93 I didn't really see the lack of gyms that big of an issue as the entire game structure was built around being different. Trials made sense enough to me because tradition and allat. I can see where you're coming from but I don't think the lack of gyms would be just enough. I'll say that dialogue is indeed a big part in making the game annoying, but then there's those who moan about the lack of hms and instead helping pokemon. Those people are nostalgia blind and the lack of hms actually just made it better if anything. Then there's the fact sumo was a year before usum, the game that was just the original but better in every single way. Gen 7 DEFINITELY had flaws but I personally don't believe it warrants being the worst in the face of the Let's Go games of all things.
@@gugg2216 I HATE the ‘helping Pokémon’ instead of HM’s Find it so childish that a random Pokémon just uses a move for you. And Pokémon gyms are the bread and butter of Pokémon, having no gyms is like removing the Pokédex or the elite 4. I'll give you another reason why people hate the remake of pearl and diamond. They destroyed the underground mechanic. Those stupid statues are useless
Emerald was the best game period, battle frontier, fusion of both evil teams, epic battle between three titan Pokemon. S+ , Platinum comes second to Emerald, original Diamond and pearl sucked.
I think all the games are good in their own way! Here's my tier list though: S+: HGSS, B2W2 S: FRLG, Emerald, BW, Legends Arceus A: Platinum, SV, USUM, GSC B: RSE, ORAS, SM C: SwSh, DP, BDSP D: RBY, XY, Let's Go
Pokemon Diamond is my favorite Pokemon game, it was also my first. I'm glad to see you put it in A rank. I've only heard a lot of people saying it's bad so it's nice to see someone else really like it.
15:06 NO BUD! The EXP Share can be turned off on Gen 6 and 7... was on Gen 8 where it was always on Also even when I love Sun and Moon and are good games in my eyes I can't but agree with the fact they are not the best game by a long shot... when you replay this game many parts of it are just TEXT AFTER TEXT... which is boring, but the Battle Facility is really nice ---------- but I disagree with you on Tera being less busted than Z-moves... think for a second... which is more unfair? Heatran having a one-time nuke on Gastrodon (that can be scouted with a switch or direction)... or Heatran suddenly becoming a Gastrodon Check if it goes Tera Grass? I like Teratypes! BUT I don't like the fact it just adds another RNG layer to the online battles
@@urunoobinho and what's the deal? Something like smart switching can get around that Also if Gastrodon switchs out into Mandibuzz for example it takes the hit extremely well and Heatran lost his nuke on Gastrodon Running Solar Beam on Heatran isn't effective if it doesn't becomes Bloom Doom... If you Tera Grass on Gastrodon of a Sun Team (Who is meant to beat Heatran using Earthquake or Earth power well Heatran now is unbreakable Resists Ground, inmune to fire thanks to Flash Fire, takes scald, Hidropump no problem, neutral to fighting Your only chance is using a Water or Ice Type to slam it but no water wants to switch into Tera Grass Tera Blast or Heatran Fire Moves... So you're in a pretty bad position compared to Heatran using Bloom Doom Also once Heatran uses Bloom Doom, the item goes useless... And has no Assault Vest, Choice item, Leftovers... Think about it again, were Z Moves really that much worst than Tera?... I love the complexity it brings to the game but I don't like it on the online ladder You can always get into a match that's practically a win until they use a Tera you didn't count for and now you loose Hidden Power 70 BP max was part of the balance for the move Now every Tera Pokémon can loose a ton of resistances and win basically a 120 Base power (With Stab) Hidden Power really easy to spam
Lets see...For the best, I'd kind of put it in a tie between three different games. They can kind of shift depending on my mood. Platinum: I spent so many hours doing all that I could and raising so many Pokemon for the Battle Frontier. I do wish it was a bit faster, but I love this game so much. B2W2: Definitely can see why this is considered the best by a lot of people. So much to do, a great Pokedex, overall fun. USUM: Rather underrated in my opinion. I can get some of the story being a bit of a downgrade to the original, at least with Lillie (I actually didn't mind Lusamine in the Ultra games) it expanded the Pokedex well, and actually gave me a bit of a challenge. For the worst: Probably BDSP: Sure, I will appaude it for not bringing back HMs and running faster, but that's honestly it. I've always perferred Platnuim over Diamond and Pearl and everything in BDSP just feels so...lame. And for some runner ups so I can have three for each: XY: Going to be honest, I wasn't the biggest Gen 6 fan. But when I went back to play them recently, I did enjoy ORAS. I didn't enjoy XY that much sadly. Let's Go: I don't really hate this game if I'm being honest, it was a fun little relaxing time to play it, but I don't see myself going back for another playthrough again. I have nothing against these games I hate and if you guys like them, that's fine. I can see some charm for them.
Was with you for like 75%, but that last quarter? Phew, I got some disagreements. I feel like judging Scarlet and Violet for its lost potential is a bit unfair if you aren't also gonna do that for BDSP. When you put those next to every other remake it's the epitome of lost potential in the franchise. I also would have rather Sword and Shield gotten judged a bit more harshly given that the positives of the DLC like the Dynamax Adventures and Crown Tundra would mean you're spending $90 on the game. I'd also disagree with the SM/USUM ranking. Lusamine was an unabashedly vile woman, with her denying Lillie as her daughter being one of my favorite moments in the series. Seeing Lillie still push past the abuse to become her own person and stop her mother was such a thrill to watch. I'd argue the art direction of Sun and Moon is one of the best, second only to the Let's Go games. And then for USUM I'd rank it as worse because it came out directly after Sun and Moon, nerfed Lusamine as a villain, and was completely unecessarily split into 2 games to squeeze out some more money.
yeah HGSS are pretty much a remake of crystal instead of OG gold and silver - the only difference in the plot is how ho-oh is catched (obviously, being gold's box pokemon they had to stick with that). in Crystal you had to catch the beasts first in order to meet ho-oh and it's basically post game as suicune and the golden bell are in kanto. i think you can still catch lugia pre league though
Scarlet and Violet are genuinely just bad games, even the dlcs are bad, at least swsh had crown tundra for the dynamax adventures and new legendaries, swsh just kept going with the past and future trend and kind of butchered a lot of the designs
Not really, DP have a LOT more qualities than flaws. The only first games of a gen that are better than DP are BW. They only seem bad because you compare them to Platinum which is even better
Get the hell out of here, Platinum itself in fact proves how good D/P actually were at their core, cause it wouldn't have been even remotely that good if it had pretty much nothing to work with.
I’m late on this video, but I love the good sportsmanship touch of shaking the trainers hand after the gym leader is defeated in Sword and Shield and hope they keep that it’s like thanking the bus driver in Fortnite.
As a pokémon collector and not a competitive player, I loved Pokémon Legends so much that I dare say it's my favorite pokémon game! I find it really curious how completing the pokédex was boring for you because for me it's such a thrill The first thing I always do in a new game is capturing absolutely everything I see on the grass and spending hours on it instead of actually playing the story. Exp share is a huge issue for me because of this, my pokémon get overleved because I capture too much 😅
My favorite game is actually Scarlet/Violet. It's the first full and real open world Pokemon. Tera is a great gimmick and tera raids are way more polished and fun versions of the max raids. I also think the story characters are all a step up, especially from Sword/Shield. Framerate and some graphical issues are really the only downside to me.
ORAS def should be S tier! In my opinion their only flaw is that you get Latias/Latios to early and that we didn't get the Emerald battle frontier but the mechanics of the game is the best in the series with everything from flying around on one of the Eon pokemon, the delta episode and the dexnav and interface overall
Honestly I can't really disagree that much maybe c tier for me, but replaying those games just made them feel thousands of time worse then when I first played
USUM is worse than Sun and Moon. Too many cutscenes and so little was introduced in USUM that they could've put all that in a Sun and Moon DLC. I'm glad Game Freak figured that out with Sword and Shield.
We should all have dismissed this list as soon as he put diamond and pearl above heartgold and soulsilver. I understand we all have nostalgic biases but my lord man, did you even play past the first hour in some of these games?
Personally I'd put Legens Arceus in S tier, but that's because I really enjoyed the stealth mechanic when it came to catching Pokémon, and not being locked in place during battles really pulled me into the world more. Keep up the great videos, ya Game Freak Shill 😉
Framerate and shitty NPCs. The new DLCs arent helping either of those. Meanwhile the SWSH stans shit on SV for things that SWSH does worse like "story" and characters.
Because the minor issues have been extremely exaggerated by the community. People complaining about simplicity and generic graphics (still improved from previous games though) in a game made primarily for kids and beginners is absurd to me. They are easily my favorite games in the series, and I have tons of nostalgia for Gens 1-5 having played them with family a lot since they released. Sure, they could have been better, but there’s no way they’re worse than all of the previous games. Quality of life improvements alone make them leagues better than older games.
@@Themacattack1209 Agreed. They're not my favorites but they're pretty high up and I'm and old school guy that started with Red when I was 9. The two things you can consistently see in most lists is hating new things somehow makes you cool regardless of what reasoning you give and criticism of Emerald is not allowed.
@@clarkX100 exactly. like for instance i remember nearly the entire community HATED gen 5 when it was newer and all of a sudden now it's everybody's favorite (its mine too, but like, my ass was getting shit on for it years ago!). the newest games always get the most backlash, and then a few more years down the line everyone goes crazy for them. i've played every entry multiple times (except usum, never got around to getting a copy but from what i've seen it doesn't look bad) and honest to god i had so much more fun on my scarlet playthough than probably every time i've played dpp and gens 6-8 combined. they're not that bad, they're just new.
The map is pretty boring to explore. Same pokemon spawning in a large biome. No subtle differencies in the same biome like in PLA. No interesting hidden spots on the map like in open world Zelda games. Also the lack of level scaling forces linearity on the player (which is ironic for an open world game). The exp share removes the necessity for grinding: three battles/encounters and you're now overleveled. The in-battle dialogue and events are slow-paced compared to BW/XY. No shiny overworld sounds/markers. Most of the shinies introduced are barely distinguishable from the originals, which makes them boring.
"emerald had tons of improvements, combined the unique parts about ruby and sapphire and made them better, and introduced a post game area that provided an extended amount of enjoyment and playtime. Yeah, I'll stick it with the other two"
Spoiler warning, this comment is being made around the end of the video. You stopped mentioning pros in let’s go like overworld Pokémon, and overworld shiny Pokémon, and Pokémon Legends Arceus being an open zone (not exactly world) game with improved movement mechanics, exploration and it being the 1st/sole mainline Pokémon game where you can actually complete the Pokédex within the game itself.
let's go is also a bore with the catch mechanic. i would even argue that the fact you need to grind by catching multiples feel very off, as it pretty much kills the individuality of your team, when you got 100+ of that one pokemon. it makes "gotta catch em all" into a joke. its not 100% bad, as it has, hands down, the best pokemon outside the pokeball experience, specially compared to the newer games, somehow. its also something i really dont like in arceus.
If Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Heart Gold and Soul Silver could combine into one game with three campaign mode, including Kanto, that would be the ultimate game for me. Picking where to start, you could have the Hoenn experience. You could choose to go through the whole Johto experience with Kanto slapped on the end to solidify your team before Red. An option I would like to see would be starting in Kanto, then going through a buffed Johto before fighting Red (or a re-imagined Gold)
Pokemon Black and White and there 2 parts added triple and rotation battles something i personally liked as playing Colosseum and XD GoD double battles were also a blast 😅
the story of Scarlet and Violet is unmatched, deserves at LEAST an A tier imo, i've never felt more attached to pokémon games characters and the soundtracks are outstanding

Correction on the gen 6 part: The EXP share could be turned off. It wasn't until later gens that it was always on no matter what.
It doesn't really matter though since X&Ys base game is already unbalanced af
Adding to this, the same thing applies to ORAS and the Generation 7 games. This is great for ORAS because it theoretically allows you to do a more or less faithful run if you pass on exp share and using megas.
@@obits3 Exactly. Speaking of which jesus christ people hate the Gen 7 games way too much. They have a lot of problems but have you seen how much content is there? There's arguably more than what B2W2 has to offer.

The Gen 7 hate is so severe that he skipped over all of the gameplay improvements and new standards Sun and Moon set:
- Regional Variants
- Removal of HMs in favor of Ride Pokemon
- Putting Rotom into the Pokedex (Which Gen 7 does the best out of every iteration of this concept)
- Ultra Beasts establishing the concept of a class of pokemon that are distinctly different from regular Pokemon (Carried over in Paradox Pokemon)
- Z moves establishing new battle mechanics that can apply to *every catchable pokemon* instead of only a select few (like Mega Evolutions)
- Totem Pokemon being the precursor to raids *and* Alpha Pokemon in Legends Arceus *and* Titan Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet(He only touched on its relation to raids)
Like, I get that people don't like how dialogue heavy Sun and Moon are or that the routes aren't as expansive.
That kept happening to me! I would always leave Pokémon up for trade overnight and occasionally get random surprises like that
What do you mean leaving Pokémon overnight to trade??
@rizot0ny1996 I never got to do it cause I didn't have internet at the time, but I remember you can put your pokemon available to trade in a separate room if you were away from your game and if someone accepted it, they would trade it for one of theirs. Yeah, same 😊
I don’t get the hate for sun&Moon either.
I highly disagree with sun and moon being ranked so low. The story is on gen 5 and gen 9 levels. Lillie's story was pretty touching.

No pokemon game's narrative is actually ABOUT or really focused on the player character except Legends Arceus.
Sun and Moon's biggest issue will always be its godawful long handholding opening sequence that lasts literally hours which is the ACTUAL reason no one wants to replay them. I LOVE Sun and Moon and even I can't really get myself to crawl through that hell of a Melemele sequence before the game finally lets you do your own thing.
you better love the hell outta the story cuz there's nearly no game past that
sun and moon was the game that made me hate silent pokemon text reading. pokemon text is not enough to fill 3d scenes.
Also how pokémon following you sucked, some pokémons evolution mechanics were stuck to the post game, they kinda removed secret bases which could've been so fun with online, no platinum content and pokémon league being a bit too difficult compared to a fairly easy game
and the music got annihilated in the process
it's still kinda wild to me how game freak though decided to take one of their most anticipated games in the franchise and completely hand the entire development of the game over to ILCA, a company that primarily serves to assist mainly with graphics and video/trailer production for other game companies. and of course to add to that there are a bunch of returning bugs that were fixed in platinum and half the game's file size was stuffed into a "day one patch" to place that burden on the consumers storage space, just so they could save money by shipping the game on the 8gb cartridges instead of the 16gb ones
I’ll take bdsp over scarlet, violet, sword and shield any day
The games were incredibly, broken at launch, and with simplified models, they should’ve been able to put more Pokémon than the original 493 from Gen 4.
We went from firered leafgreen, having 386, heartgold soulsilver with 493, Omega Ruby Aplha Sapphire sporting 721, to Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl with… the same 493 from Gen 4…
You’re telling me a 3DS can fit 800+ Pokémon, also regional forms, and mega Pokémon models on one cartridge, but this Nintendo switch cartridge, which we’ve seen them hold massive games like Xenoblade and Skyrim, can’t handle the generation eight nat dex? That’s a load of Bouffalant manure.
BDSP had the potential to be the competitive game for generation eight Nat dex. Instead, it was a barely functional inferior remake.
The only thing it had going for it over ORAS was not shiny locking the starters and legendaries.
I thought the Let's Go games were remakes of Yellow, not FireRed and LeafGreen. 🤔

@@markroy8342 well that’s because it’s in the Mega timeline dude lmao. It’s an alternate storyline to Yellow which it is still based around.
Yea that pissed me off so much I got lucky and my cousin beat the game before me and he let me have the razor claw to evolve my gligar
DP was pretty bad on its own,but BDSP is just an uglier rehash but not as slow.Still its supposed to BE a remake not a remaster so i'd give it a -2/10
13 reasons why BDSP are the WORST remakes of all time:
WTF)
The Super-Contest used to be a fun-mode where you had many different options and varities and had to have good reflexes to do
the correct moves at the correct time.
13. Price: Dia/pearl/Platinum: 40$ and Copy/Paste BDSP with Bugs:60$ -> Bruh..
Good analysis
go off king
Preach! Also, you dropped this 👑
I bought shining pearl for one reason - to get Darkrai in Legends Arceus. After that I promptly sold it back.
Good shit bro
Right now Legends Arceus is my favorite Pokémon game. By far even. I absolutely love that it's basically a purely story driven Pokémon game. Making it more an RPG than other Pokémon games. And the whole idea was "Catch all Pokémon" in the end (to meet Arceus) so I focused more on catching Pokémon while exploring than battling. Which also helps with completion of the Pokédex.
The mechanics feel great, too. It was the first Pokemon game I ever actually wanted to complete the dex!
Love this gamr
THERES NO WAY THIS DUDE JUST PUT POKEMON SUN AND MOON IN F TEAR WITH NO HESITATION
@@genera1013 pokemon moon was my first pokemon game. i was used to playing rpgs with stories so i thought the dialog was normal. i also finished the story of it the day i got it so its not really a long game. you would probably be able to finish it and enjoy it more if you spent some time playing it without any previous expectations
@@morpheel So if I didn't expect a Pokemon game that let's me play a Pokemon game?
@@genera1013 thats not what i said. its obviously still a pokemon game. what i mean is be patient and give it a chance and you might like it more. scarlet and violet are very different from traditional pokemon games too and theyre still fun
For a fun experience these games are one of the best choises
To make it harder, you can just do a nuzlocke, just saying
also the moment where Floette returns to the man was impactful when I was a kid. I honestly wouldn't be watching this video here as I am much older if I didn't have so much appreciation for Pokemon because of XY, both the anime and game as a kid.
I love them too, probably becuase x was my first pokemon game ever
Diamond and Pearl have some huge highs but huge lows as well. Most notably for me is the dex prior to post game, aka having ice and fire type specialists with only two ice and two fire type lines available before the post game. Also, locking awesome new evolutions in the post game felt kinda bad. Platinum really fixed so many of those flaws though.
I agree. If they had followed more along the lines of Platinum, BDSP could have been great. Instead, they were just okay. Two fire types? Really? I never understood the dev's decision to make it that way.
I remember seeing a RUclips poll that was like
"You're in sinnoh and want to use a fire type. Who do you choose?"
Infernape
Rapidash
Lopunny
Drifblim
Steelix
Just as bad with Grass and Electric Types, Grass you've pretty much only got Torterra, Roserade, or Abomasnow, and electric you get Luxray or Raichu, loads of not very good water types though lol
@@lunayoshiI gave up BD, sold it to GameStop it was so disappointing
@@lunayoshi I appreciate that they at least put some platinum pokemon in the underground, but I do wish the could have update the gym/elite 4 teams (not necessarily the puzzles or anything). Also, giving a way to buy some of the evolution items that are post-game locked (ex: for Weavile and Gliscor) would be fantastic as well. I feel like those would just be relatively small changes that would significantly improve the games.
Bro complimented gen 7 for like two minutes just to put it in F tier. Never let bro touch the tier list website again 💀💀💀💀
I know you hate the gen 7 games, but I will die on the hill that they are actually really good.
Gen 7 are indeed good games, but the early "tutorial" in Sun/Moon is just way too long and goes very slow. They did actually fix that issue with the UltraSun / UltraMoon games.
@@SanderEvers i doubt that would completely obliterate the enjoyment, atleast not for me.
Right!! It gets too much hate! Just cause of some cut scenes.
Yeah, us/um are really good imo too. It was nice to take a break from the gym battles and the region felt very unique while playing for the first time
they are really good, the only problem i have with them is the handholding. but future pokemon games (SwSh) have them(to some degrees even worse) and still ranked higher.
Gen 7 is very under appreciated, Gen 6 is meh
X/Y is one of my favorites.

Aint now way you actually think that gen8's story and lore is better than gen 7's . Did we play the same games?
Especially post game USUM. Gen 7 had too much dialogue but other than that there was a modest difficulty to the trials and the post was game was way better than SwSh. In SwSh other than the Pokémon League you had nothing going on
The two key problem that Sun and Moon have are also present in Sword and Shield.
Being extremely linear and constantly being stopped for dialogue. It somehow became worse in Sword and Shield.
@azunkor422 besides having to much dialog was also an issue in swsh too ngl.
@@Onion_57 And from scarlet and violet, its clear linearity is their strong suit.
Cant believe game freak once again is ruining pokemon just because of whiners.
We cant have a region exclusives filled with new pokemon anymore
We cant have a region with a normal escalation of difficulty anymore

I didn’t like either of those gens but even I have to admit 7 is leagues better than 8 in terms of story. It’s not even a competition.
scarlet and violet over sun and moon is actually crazy
Yeah both should be A tier
Tbh i think both can be tied. Both had great story lines, interesting gimmicks, great variety of pokemon and had good conclusions. A tier atleast
@@OmEn2. yes true
Except one actually doesn't have random clipping and lags Scarlet and Violet are just mediocre to me
Dunno, I do kinda agree, surprisingly.

But there was just sooooo much about it I couldn't stand that overall I ended up hating the game.
i have pearl and soulsilver and I only use pearl to trade because its just so boring
Putting Diamond and Pearl in A-tier is sheer nostalgia goggles. It's low C at best. It'd argue the performance is equal to or worse than SV.
Nah I doubt that. Even putting the performance in question I've seen friends playing diamond/pearl and love it more then black and white. Don't assume it's nostalgia.

“Bad wrap”
Lol, zoomer moment.
Spoilers for SM/USUM and SV + DLC
What we can infer about Ultra Beasts is that they come from alternate realities and are meant to be the Pokemon equivalent to alien invasion and invasive species that wreck havoc on ecosystems.

Whatever game you grew up with while having good memories: S tier
Whatever game you grew up with while having negative memories: D tier
I think HGSS are S tier games. They added so much more that wasnt mentioned but definitly were game changer. We had the battle frontier from Platinum ( imo the 2nd best battle frontier ) , the Pokéthlon, which i personally loved, a new safari zone with an additional area, a lot of legendaries to catch, amazing events and mystery gifts, 16 gym leaders that can be rematched, the pokéwalker and so much more. level scaling is still too shit.
@@goobingtons game wouldve been perfect if not for the level 30 trainers before the league :(
I feel the DS was the best years for Pokemon and honestly it's peak.

@@nirvanacobain001 Pokemon is by design a competitive game, internet just made it more accessible lol
Anyways, it was really really great back in the day
It's honestly refreshing that people in the comments are starting to appreciate gen 7, kinda reminds me when people started to appreciate gen 5.
I can't agree with sun/moon's and usum placements on the list, especially if you put vanilla dp and bdsp in A and B tier.
putting the let’s go games above gen 7 is wild, i get the cutscene interruptions but SWSH also has so much unneeded dialogue that continues to interrupt you and the game is soooo slow. i think it’s totally fine if you hate Sun and moon, but damn, below let’s go is so crazy to me
The Sun and Moon games being so low is the least based thing I’ve ever seen
They really deserve a lot more love. The whole vibe is great, save for the boring dialog you can't skip
You can turn off EXP Share in Pokemon X & Y; seems like a big oversight to think you couldn't
I acknowledge their flaws but still really, really like them ❤
Fun video, dude 👍
i dont think anyone in the comments agree with him on that. felt like he had a bad experience due to something else, and decided it was the games fault or something. for example, he complains about the amount of text. but never talks about the ungodly amount of backtracking of the games including ruby, saphire and emerald. which to me are far worse offenders.
i have no problem being able to go back to deal with something, but those games were really taking the piss.
Red was the first pokemon game I played way back in 98, but when I got Silver, it was the game the made me love the franchise.
Same exact story. Red first then Silver and I was hooked for life
Same here. And they just had such a great feel back then. It’s hard for these younger guys to come from gen 7 for example and try and enjoy red or silver like we did. At the time, they were amazing games.
Same played red into silver and man as a kid I put a crazy amount of time into my silver game wish I still had it to this day
Pokemon Silver is my all time favorite. The duplication glitch I found on accident when the batteries died when i was saving at a pokebox in a Pokemon Center. And Emerald is my second favorite. It held my attention for the longest amount of time, X and Y are my third favorite.
SV in D tier is honestly wild to me
I know I probably like it more than most people but it's a blast. The characters are fun, the new Pokemon are great, tera is a fun gimmick, paradox Pokemon are awesome, the DLC is a blast
I'm sure it probably helps that I didn't have any HUGE glitches in my time at all, just janky fps which didn't really get too much in the way of my enjoyment
My Pokemon hot take is gen 5 is massively overrated and I know that is definitely not something many people online seem to consider.
I think most people actually really like it; it's just that the people who don't like it are much louder than usual (since there's been a string of "bad" Pokemon games that have caused a lot of tension in the community)
That being said, I love SV as well, it's pretty high up there as some of my favorite games in the series so far.
I think most of SV glitches come from Multi player and if you bought digital, at least from what I’ve heard.
Scarlet and Violet in D tier is absolutely RIDICULOUS BRO HOLY
Broski barely touched on anything that Scarlet/Violet brought. I thought he was going to go more in depth and then give his rating😭
For real don't disrespect D tier like that it belongs lower.
no bc literally. scarlet was the most fun ive had in a pokemon game since gen 5. FIVE. FOUR GENS AGO!!!!
They are trash
As someone who was around from the start, here's about how I would work the generational duo entries based on quality of the system they're on and what came before:
#9: Sword/Shield.
Gen 5 introduced unlimited TMs though? I think that was pretty cool
@@bonthebunnycat667me too. When I played crystal on the virtual console I would pretty much never use most of the TMs because you don't get another.
At least you could Clone them with a glitch but gen 5 fixed that, so you no longer needed to use a glitch to use multiple
gen 1 games are trash. take off the nostalgia goggles.
Idk why I expected reviews based on full playthroughs and proper coverage/proper research of gimmicks and differences...
Fr. Very few actual important things, mostly personal opinion.
Awesome job with this! It’s clear you put a lot of thought into each ranking, and I like how you factored in what each generation added to the formula!
I personally really like Sun and Moon, but… yeah, they have WAY too many cutscenes, which makes replaying them super annoying.
Sun and moon aren’t bad games but having them lower than SWSH is wild
Having them less than X and Y
what i dont get is how he could put them below the let's go games. which are genuinely an atrocious experience.
@@wrestlingenjoyer so, this is what pokemon has become now? games are being jugded by their expected amount of useless gimmicks?

The gen 7 Alola games are my favorite because I really love the story. Really feels more like a Lillie story and that made me really love her as a character. I remember when I first played these games and I cried when she left at the end. I didn’t want her to go! She felt like a real life friend to me despite being a fictional character in a video game.

Lilly VS Necrozma is by far the best animated pokemon battle in history. Its called pokemon evolutions: the eclipse.
That's kinda why I hated them ngl.
gen 8 over gen 7 is just... certainly an opinion. sun and moon's intrusive dialogue was very annoying and it certainly had its flaws but it had some of the best characters and story in the whole series!
The gen 7 hate is wild lmao
Gen 7 sucks that’s why lol
@@bassmasta93 calling it outright the worst is a stretch when you look at what came out directly after it
@@gugg2216 the fact it doesn’t have gyms is a good enough reason for it to be the worst imo
@@gugg2216 I HATE the ‘helping Pokémon’ instead of HM’s
Find it so childish that a random Pokémon just uses a move for you.
And Pokémon gyms are the bread and butter of Pokémon, having no gyms is like removing the Pokédex or the elite 4.
I personally think sun and moon is the worst, but I also think anything after black and white is poor, except legends arceus.
I'll give you another reason why people hate the remake of pearl and diamond. They destroyed the underground mechanic. Those stupid statues are useless
Also not to mention most of the Pokémon in the underground, don’t have much of the access of their evolution.
Also the Battle Frontier wasn't in BDSP
Emerald was the best game period, battle frontier, fusion of both evil teams, epic battle between three titan Pokemon. S+ , Platinum comes second to Emerald, original Diamond and pearl sucked.
I think all the games are good in their own way! Here's my tier list though:
S+: HGSS, B2W2
S: FRLG, Emerald, BW, Legends Arceus
A: Platinum, SV, USUM, GSC
B: RSE, ORAS, SM
C: SwSh, DP, BDSP
D: RBY, XY, Let's Go
Finally someone agrees that the gen 1 games sucked massive ass and anyone who says otherwise was just blinded by nostalgia
in gen 6 and 7 you can turn off the exp share
Pokemon Diamond is my favorite Pokemon game, it was also my first. I'm glad to see you put it in A rank. I've only heard a lot of people saying it's bad so it's nice to see someone else really like it.
15:06 NO BUD! The EXP Share can be turned off on Gen 6 and 7... was on Gen 8 where it was always on
Also even when I love Sun and Moon and are good games in my eyes
I can't but agree with the fact they are not the best game by a long shot...
when you replay this game many parts of it are just TEXT AFTER TEXT... which is boring, but the Battle Facility is really nice
----------
but I disagree with you on Tera being less busted than Z-moves...
think for a second... which is more unfair? Heatran having a one-time nuke on Gastrodon (that can be scouted with a switch or direction)... or Heatran suddenly becoming a Gastrodon Check if it goes Tera Grass?
I like Teratypes! BUT I don't like the fact it just adds another RNG layer to the online battles
Even if it’s only for 25% of the damage, z moves go through protect (not that good of an argument, but important for vgc)
@@urunoobinho and what's the deal? Something like smart switching can get around that
Also if Gastrodon switchs out into Mandibuzz for example it takes the hit extremely well and Heatran lost his nuke on Gastrodon
Running Solar Beam on Heatran isn't effective if it doesn't becomes Bloom Doom...
If you Tera Grass on Gastrodon of a Sun Team (Who is meant to beat Heatran using Earthquake or Earth power
well Heatran now is unbreakable
Resists Ground, inmune to fire thanks to Flash Fire, takes scald, Hidropump no problem, neutral to fighting
Your only chance is using a Water or Ice Type to slam it but no water wants to switch into Tera Grass Tera Blast or Heatran Fire Moves...
So you're in a pretty bad position compared to Heatran using Bloom Doom
Also once Heatran uses Bloom Doom, the item goes useless...
And has no Assault Vest, Choice item, Leftovers...
Think about it again, were Z Moves really that much worst than Tera?...
I love the complexity it brings to the game but I don't like it on the online ladder
You can always get into a match that's practically a win until they use a Tera you didn't count for and now you loose
Hidden Power 70 BP max was part of the balance for the move
Now every Tera Pokémon can loose a ton of resistances and win basically a 120 Base power (With Stab) Hidden Power really easy to spam
For the worst:
Probably BDSP: Sure, I will appaude it for not bringing back HMs and running faster, but that's honestly it. I've always perferred Platnuim over Diamond and Pearl and everything in BDSP just feels so...lame.
And for some runner ups so I can have three for each:
XY: Going to be honest, I wasn't the biggest Gen 6 fan.
You don't like Unova?
Me: I don't, and I'm tired of pretending I do.
I can't actually believe I NEVER knew that Crystal had a battle tower!
It's in the same place the HGSS battle frontier is!
I am actually so shocked!
yeah HGSS are pretty much a remake of crystal instead of OG gold and silver - the only difference in the plot is how ho-oh is catched (obviously, being gold's box pokemon they had to stick with that). in Crystal you had to catch the beasts first in order to meet ho-oh and it's basically post game as suicune and the golden bell are in kanto. i think you can still catch lugia pre league though
like eugene's whole character and suicune being more important is a crystal plot, in the OG he roamed with the others as soon as you encounter them
If u put Pokémon Red/Blue and Yellow in low tiers and even below Pokémon BDSP, your ranking is automatically irrelevant and a nonsense.
Gen 2-5 are what the fandom mostly considers to be great. OI personally still love gen 6 and 1 as well. 1 is B tier at least, to me
"I don't understand how opinions work" - You
You forget to mention that Pokemon X&Y introduced the new fairy type
No shot SWSH got ranked higher than any Gen 7 game
Edit: and SV under SWSH? What a list
Scarlet and violet Is terrible,i would have put it at even lower then F,
“If you ignore the flaws of Gen 3 it’s really good”
@@SlitheringStevePhilipsI don’t think he ignored them, he just didn’t think they were that important.
Scarlet and Violet are genuinely just bad games, even the dlcs are bad, at least swsh had crown tundra for the dynamax adventures and new legendaries, swsh just kept going with the past and future trend and kind of butchered a lot of the designs
Scarlet and Violet are pretty great games held down by the bugs and terrible performance whenever a single water droplet is on screen.
Bias comin' in HOT putting Ruby/Sapphire right next to Emerald lol. Fun video!
Diamond/Pearl being that high is absolutely criminal
sure it brought important mechanics and whatnot, but the flaws massively outweight the goods
and having Sword/Shield anywhere that isnt in F or lower is also absolutely criminal, god damn
Not really, DP have a LOT more qualities than flaws. The only first games of a gen that are better than DP are BW. They only seem bad because you compare them to Platinum which is even better
As a 4th gen Lover: agreed. Plat is S tier but d and p are B tier or lower.
Get the hell out of here, Platinum itself in fact proves how good D/P actually were at their core, cause it wouldn't have been even remotely that good if it had pretty much nothing to work with.
You’re making me want to make a Pokémon game tier list
do a digimon one
I’m late on this video, but I love the good sportsmanship touch of shaking the trainers hand after the gym leader is defeated in Sword and Shield and hope they keep that it’s like thanking the bus driver in Fortnite.
As a pokémon collector and not a competitive player, I loved Pokémon Legends so much that I dare say it's my favorite pokémon game!
I find it really curious how completing the pokédex was boring for you because for me it's such a thrill
The first thing I always do in a new game is capturing absolutely everything I see on the grass and spending hours on it instead of actually playing the story.
Framerate and some graphical issues are really the only downside to me.
dogcrap game
Damn not even a minute in and you insulted my mom?
Instant sub
ORAS def should be S tier! In my opinion their only flaw is that you get Latias/Latios to early and that we didn't get the Emerald battle frontier but the mechanics of the game is the best in the series with everything from flying around on one of the Eon pokemon, the delta episode and the dexnav and interface overall
"My opinion"
Bro gen 7 being F and D is cap as hell
Honestly I can't really disagree that much maybe c tier for me, but replaying those games just made them feel thousands of time worse then when I first played
Nah. They need to stop the hand holding. The only challenge now is not falling asleep during the A button mashing.
Nah, he's right. Gen 7 is deeply flawed.
USUM is worse than Sun and Moon. Too many cutscenes and so little was introduced in USUM that they could've put all that in a Sun and Moon DLC. I'm glad Game Freak figured that out with Sword and Shield.
Heart Gold and Soul Silver at the bottom of A tier is criminal.
Agreed
Pokemon Gold should be in S-tier.
fax
No, HGSS is overrated
@@kailesperance1922 Not a shot kid
USUM in D with BDSP in B is the biggest wild take I find with this video 😭 Otherwise this matches FAIRLY well with my thoughts.
We should all have dismissed this list as soon as he put diamond and pearl above heartgold and soulsilver. I understand we all have nostalgic biases but my lord man, did you even play past the first hour in some of these games?
Based on that alone, I'm wondering if he played past the opening title screen for some of these games 😂
Putting Heartgold and Soulsilver in A tier instead of S is an actual crime
Personally I'd put Legens Arceus in S tier, but that's because I really enjoyed the stealth mechanic when it came to catching Pokémon, and not being locked in place during battles really pulled me into the world more.
Keep up the great videos, ya Game Freak Shill 😉
Literally being able to catch without battling made me actually care to catch Pokemon and it's the first game I 100%ed in the series
I just don’t understand why Peale hate on scarlet and violet so much I’ve seen a lot and i mean a lot of lists that say they are the worst games
Yeah, I'll stick it with the other two"
yes, but slightly better but not a tier above as I said in the video
Not to mention they're the first, and so far only, game that actually gets you genuinely attached to your ride pokemon
Nah gameplay is garbage and terrible worldbuilding and performance issues. Gen 1-5 supremacy
@@shewolfcub3nigga you cannot tell me you didnt fall asleep 10 minutes into starting pokemon rby
