like the world just feels so small,

No, the worst part of Pokemon: Let's Go is the fact that you're restricted to *a single joy-con.* (And the Pokeball, but _nobody_ can afford that anymore.) No pro controller, no dual joy-con grip. You only get one. In tv mode. In handheld mode, you get to use the entire controller _and_ can actually aim by tilting the system. The issue of Dexit isn't "not being able to catch every pokemon", that happened all the way back in RSE.
It's that pokemon were outright removed from the underlying code and thus literally do not and can not exist in the game without modding. It also is the reason Pokemon Hostage (Home) and Pokemon Ransom (Bank) are such a big problem.

    • @luniveon
      @luniveon 3 месяца назад +11

@@luniveon The list of Pokemon trapped on Home is currently around 10: Spinda, Patrat and Watchog, the 3 elemental monkeys from Unova and their evolutions, and Furfrou. The list has slowly been whittled down, with each new major game release and dlc/expansion. Though I think the primary issue is not *always* being able to take out your favorite Pokemon from past games into the newest game.
Up until Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, you theoretically could transfer almost any single Pokemon from as far back as Ruby and Sapphire to every other game in the same or later generations. If you had a team you really liked, you carry that team with you to every newest installment and use them in the Battle Frontier, Pokeathlon, Pokemon Contests, Battle Subway, online play, or whatever other new mode that game had with your old friends, but now.. unless your Pokemon happens to be supported by the latest game, they are trapped in the past, unless (or rather IF) a dlc/expansion comes out that adds support for that Pokemon.
SV has had the greatest amount of Pokemon availability (compared to the number of total Pokemon) since USUM, with a total of 185 out of 1000+ Pokemon not allowed to exist in the game. Ideally, the next game would just support them all again, but that is doubtful.

    • @dnmstarsi
      @dnmstarsi 26 дней назад +3

That's still a stupid and whiny problem IMHO. I understand familarity but when you have a franchise with over 1,000 pokemon to choose from, forms and all, there will come a point where they can't bring everyone back and balance them to the latest generation rules and stuff. And while one could complain about having to pay for a service to keep your pokemon you might never use again in years, I'd argue it's better than losing your pokemon completely especially when you're not paying a lot of money for a yearly service.

21:50 - Sun and Moon do remind me of yokai watch, but mostly because of the concurrent anime's artstyle likely taking inspiration from it.
22:23 - this is made worse if you have an old 3DS model like most people did when Sun and Moon were new. double battles are honestly unplayable just because of how much they bog down the system. it's also apparent on those models because if you close out of the game, the system has to restart whereas that is not the case with New 3DS models. that, and the absurd amount of slow cutscenes that drag out don't help with that whatsoever.

I think what made X and Y so easy, also had a lot to do with the affection mechanic introduced in gen 6 as well...
Just by investing a tiny bit of time and getting a pokemon to affection level 2, gives them an increased 20% EXP, and if you get a pokemon to affection 5 you get:
    20% more EXP.
25% chance of enduring a fatal hit, even multiple times in the same battle.
Chance to heal status effects for free during battle.
Increase the miss rate of any opponent move not guaranteed to hit by 10%.
    Double their crit rate.
So on top of the EXP-share being partywide now, every pokemon you get to level 5 affection gets INSANE buffs as well. So it felt like the first generation in the series MADE to make the player feel overpowered, since there's just so many ways to make your level 7 Pidgey so much stronger than a normal one, without them even seeing battle once!

9 gen - OK, so... we want to go to school. Director give us pokemon because it's required there. Nemona FORCES us to be HER rival. We study in school and when given "free roam assighment" that meant to hel uf "find our own path", it's not US who wants anything, it's NEMONA TELLING US to become a champion, Arven and Penny BEGGING us to HELP THEM and by the end we done... NOTHING FOR OURSELVES, NOTHING BECAUSE WE WANTED IT.

I feel like the worst part about Sword and Shield is the map. It's linear to the point of being a one-dimensional line (Wild Area notwithstanding) and you don't get to explore the cities at all. Unova and Kalos were linear as well (Alola was too somewhat, mostly due to plot railroading) but at least their routes had some internal complexity and they all had fully-optional locations. Not so for Galar.
Dexit, meanwhile, would have happened anyway at some point due to how many Pokemon there were.

That's my biggest gripe with Pokémon fans. People will complain about the trash pokémon or the gears like we didn't literally have a pokéball in the very first gen.
And it's incredible evolution: The upside down pokéball 😂
90% of the first gen's pokémon aren't specifically creative and are quite literally taken from the animal world (Zubat, Vulpix, Growlithe, Beedrill, etc) or are as basic as the most generic fantasy creature (Rapidash as a unicorn, Charizard and Dragonite as very average dragons). Most pokémon in later games had a little something to them to stand out, so the complaints about them are very non sensical.
But it's very human to complain about new things. Be it the next generation of youngsters, a sequel to a great movie or even just a new video game. Given enough time, even those so called "bad" games suddenly are seen as masterpieces (Gen 5 for example, I remember when everyone, myself included, hated it).

9:04 Wait, so the biggest issue with Ruby and Sapphire is that.. it's hard to complete the national dex? Compared to the previous 2 complaints of general glitchiness and lack of polish, bad level curve and poor pokemon availability, I feel like this is such a minor nitpick that doesn't permeate through the game itself in the same way that the previous 2 complaints did. Not the overexposure of water types, the lack of balance with the starters (Mudkip is so overpowered compared to the other two options), the nonsensical story that wasn't properly resolved until Emerald, or lack of fixed learnsets (that still wasn't really fixed until gen 4) making certain pokemon like Gardevoir have insane natural level-up moves, while leaving so many other pokemon not even learning a move of their own types.
I feel like these games got off a bit light, is all I'm saying.
EDIT: 11:20 Wait what, you couldn't even come up with a single valid complaint for Emerald? How about champion Steven, one of the coolest champions in the series, alongside Cynthia and Lance, being replaced by... Wallace. The water type 8th gym leader. Who is otherwise unimportant, and completely irrelevant to the storyline. Even in Emerald, Steven does more than Wallace does, and Wallace's replacement for the 8th gym leader is even more forgotten about than Wallace himself.
The Hoenn bias is strong with this one

    • @robertlupa8273

Wallace is a pretty good champion... gameplay-wise that is and even then, it's only in a vacuum. His team is actually quite well put together for a mono Water team... but it's in a region that already has way too much water and like you've said, he replaced someone much more fitting for the champion role in terms of prominance in the story and just general "vibes".

"While all the things I listed are minor, it definitely adds up."
While that is true for gen 1 and people say that nowadays, they clearly didn't warrant an outcry back then. Guess they got a pass for being the first in the series.
Definitely agree with your Gen 2 and 3 complaints. While I find completing the national Pokedex an issue in Gen 3, I found the idea of connecting all of them together pretty interesting, especially with that being one of the main points of Pokemon. The N64/GB era started it, and the GameCube/GBA era perfected it.

9:19 It didn't so much fix the glitches as much as they weren't there to begin with because they ran on the gen 3 game engine, which is also why they have the updated mechanics. That's generally how the remakes work, with the obvious exception of Let's Go which didn't really have a game engine to play off of and instead adapted the most recent mechanics as of Gen 7 as well as implemented Pokemon Go catch mechanics. It's also not very clear if BDSP actually does use a modified gen 8 game engine or not.

You don't control the Yo-Kai directly (Dragon Quest games have an option to let the CPU control your party), you use food to get a chance at recruiting Yo-Kai (DWM 1 and 2 just used meat so this is actually a bit closer to Digimon World 2's gift system as in Yo-Kai Watch there's different kinds of food and each Yo-Kai has a different favorite) and different from even DQM, the main story is gated behind and the sidequests are full of what feels like a bunch of chores even by JRPG quest standards. That's the biggest flaw? Let me list some SV flaws. Btw SV are great games however:
      1. FPS drops+Glitches are common & a lot of visuals are kinda bad(N64 like)
      2. Shiny locks to old Legendaries
      3. Missing Linking cord from PLA
      4. Forced Battle Style: Switch. It's literally the default option for Ranked battles
      5. Gym tests/puzzles are a joke(in my opinion). Just look @ Simon says Psy Gym, Ice gym snowboarding & Hide and Seek of Electric gym
      6. Move animations are ruined
Behemoth Blade gimmick is ruined, Spirit shackle is ruined, Regidrago & Kyogre having the same animation for their moves are kinda bad too
The worst ones are Solgaleo & Lunala being unable to activate their 3rd eye
      7. Lack of a Battle facility
      8. BBA is based on Unova but lacks half of the Unovan mons--> Watchog & the Elemental monkeys could have made a Switch debut
      9. Terastralization couldn't be kept in reserves & it took me a while to know that Tera crystals can charge the orb. Not to mention the fact that changing the Tera type is a Grindy & a less fun method
      10. The games continue to follow the same steps from the prev games:
Forced Exp share & an obedience system that restricts u from catching higher level mons
      11. Literally everything is locked to the Gym badges=Sandwich ingredients, Held items, Obedience, Mints, Vitamins, Pokeballs(Although u can find some on the ground). Also Ability patch being unavailable for purchase sucks
      12. Limited Trainer customisation compared to the previous games
      13. Victory road(call this path whatever road u want) & E4 rooms could have been a lot better instead of being completely bland
      14. The DLC being sold separately for each version is a scam especially when u consider the paradox exclusive mons which require u to spend 95$ extra
      15. Lack of level scaling. U are allowed to take your own path, but why does the game punish u with higher level bosses. The Nemona battles are scaled, what happened to the rest ? Also this is the reason why most youtubers & players in general take a similar path unless u grind hard/ do overlevelling.
Fun fact: Even a fan game like Crystal Clear has implemented level scaling very well

@@e94youtube you really put a lot of time and effort into that reply, i really respect that. I also agree with all your points, besides some that seem to push the "make pokemon more of an open world game" thing that was really popular a few years ago.
While i like ideas like level scaling and open areas, i think the format of pokemon works way better when you have smaller separate areas (routes) with different biomes and encounters. There's a reason Crystal Clear works so well. SV tried to make everything, including cities, be one big open seamless map, and even though there were different areas they all felt bland. And big problems with this were performance issues, no interiors to buildings, boring NPC's and less detailed environments. All of this could be solved with a few loadscreens dividing the different areas, and the routes themselves could still be open.
Most of the things you listed are gameplay issues, and i agree they could be better, but my comment was specifically about the aesthetic and design decisions. Because that is, in my opinion, the biggest draw for me to pokemon. The thing that differentiates pokemon from a lot of other similar rpg games is not that the mechanics and gameplay are more polished, or that the world is bigger and better, it's simply the feeling of playing it. I used to love seeing the new fun designs of trainers and pokemon, and enjoy exploring a small but neatly designed world. Even if it was a bit linear. SV lost all of that, and all of it just looks bland and boring. While i do like the design of some new characters, most of them just look... off, compared to previous games.
Compare the designs from older games, like the ones from Yusuke Ohmura, Megumi Mizutani and take. Apparently they worked on SV as well, but none of their specific designs are listed and none of them look anything like their previous work. Some of them are even credited to character design in Legends Arceus, and this time their specific designs are listed, and those look great.

      1. There's no reason for SV to have a forced Exp share. I'm pretty sure they did this to make the games more easy in order to get ppl into the Ranked matches/VGC which has its own paywalls
      2. S DLC & V DLC being sold separately is a bigger scam that keeps going on for eternity. I wish someone pointed this out, but nope. We proved to be too gullible & then they say that Pkmn doesn't have any microtransactions when they've been milking us from Day 1 of Gen 1: RBY

Also BDSP is still the worst game in the entire series, so that's a fun fact or a well known fact

How are BDSP worse than the original Diamond and Pearl? Like yes, Platinum is still better, but the remakes are absolutely better than the originals.

@@Lilithlily5 Lot easier to softlock yourself and essentially corrupt your save. Reason being it retained it's grid based world but utilized omni-directional movement due to gen 8 coding. There were also moves and abilities in the game that just didn't work, cause again. Weren't in the gen 8 coding. Then there was the drastic jump from Gym Leaders to E4 with perfect competitive mons.
It was a lot of issues, multiple had to be patched out, the latter of the 3 dividing the community until eventually everyone just agreed BDSP are horrid games. DP had the excuse of being new and didn't destroy saves so easily it needed week 1 patching.

@@Lilithlily5 It's the worst game bcoz it's a copy pasted version of the Original DP with only some current Gen QoL mechanics unlike the other remakes which improve upon themselves/take risks like LGPE did. Heck BDSP's dev time was less than an year so obviously we had to accept this decade old Chibi artstyle which is a downgrade compared to ORAS,.LGPE

The biggest issue I have with the early games is how SLOW they play. They are basically unplayable now unless you speed them up through an emulator.

28:28 I see it as more comparable to Monster Hunter or Monster Hunter Stories even if it's not quite the same as either. I honestly think it was even a response to MHS2 originally releasing as a Switch exclusive after the first game was originally a 3DS exclusive (although it did quickly receive a mobile enhanced port) but that's just me.

I think the coolest part of USUM is how you can have literally every Pokémon nearly. I spent a lot of time completing that dex.

Folk complaining about Johto have a very 2015+ mindset of games, they see games as something they wanna pick up and then be done with.
Gold and Silver were meant to be played over time and not rushed through or speedrun. People doing only nuzlockes and challenge runs complain about non-issues to their specific wants.

I'd say Black & White's biggest problem is the levels that pokemon evolve at, like way too many Gen 5 pokemon evolve at level 40+
The biggest issue with dexit is that it means gamefreak can now sell returning pokemon as DLC which is insanely scummy
